Does it matter that politicians who once castigated one another are in the same party? Ikimi was a strong critic of Abiola and was NRC's National officer during June 12 while everyone knew Tinubu was completely pro-MKO Abiola, he was also the returning officer who delivered Obasanjo during THAT PDP Presidential primaries with the popular refrain: 'Obasanjo, Obasanjo, Obasanjo' 1 million times before Ekwueme 10 times! Where is he now? He's in bed with the same Tinubu as APC's Deputy National Chairman!

Wammako was an ANPP stalwart way back and was very powerful, didn't he decamp to PDP and started insulting the same ANPP? Saraki only decamped to PDP from the old APP, brought his son as Governor and started insulting the same APP (ANPP).

Atiku started with PDP, was AC Presidential candidate, and returned to PDP.

A number of polticians who helped Aregbesola win his court case in Osun were PDP members who decamped to ACN after he won the case against Oyinlola. Opeyemi Bamidele, Tinubu's boy in House of Reps is the de facto leader of Labour Party in Ekiti today and he's fighting the sitting APC Governor Fayemi so dirty, whereas we all know that Tinubu and Mimiko are political enemies. It is ALL about selfish interest!

Tinubu made Senator Obanikoro politically, first as Local Govt Chairman, and later as Commissioner, and much later as Senator (under AD). Are they friends today?

Senator Ogunlewe was elected as an AD Senator; didn't he decamp to PDP and fought Tinubu like a rabied dog!

Enoch Ajiboso was a staunch PDP man, didn't he decamp to join AC as Commisisoner for Agriculture?

Dr. Wale Ahmed, who owns a hospital in Agege used to be a thorn in the flesh of ACN as Lagos PDP Publicity Secretary before 2011 election. He was like Lai Mohammed of today! Didn't he decamp just before the election from PDP to the same ACN he used to insult and got compensated as a current Commissioner under Fashola? abuc: In as much as many will criticize the Governor of being too loyal or a stooge to Saraki, the fact remains that the Senior Saraki has an "Election Winning Machinery" in the past 40 years and was ready to deploy it in making his Daughter the next Governor but Bukola said no. The battle line was drawn between a Father and Son over who should continue to be the King Maker. The son won and in few months later, the Iroko of Kwara politics Died and Bukola fully inherited the mantle of Leadership in Kwara Political Dynasty. With the present Kwara political structure, if the Governor disagree with Bukola Saraki, he will be impeach within 72 hours maximum. That is the power of controling a political structure that Guarantees positive result in the past 40 years.

These will continue because the poor and lower class citizens has a very slim chance of winning any election in Nigeria except it has been predestined by God.

But Tinubu is a SPECIAL breed.He is far ahead of his contemporaries in everything. I mean EVErYTHING,corruption inclusive!!!
Not only did he have the sagacious edge over his Governor colleagues in then AD who sheepishly sold their political empires to OBJ,he also had the political foresight to (almost) single handedly re-launch a dead party. That party today is 95 % in control of the South West.

For PDP,the honest truth is- they would have preferred a sick picture of Bola Tinubu lying down in one health facility in the UK than one waving at supporters at the Lagos Airport.

Don't get me wrong, Bola Tinubu is not a god.But if the individual strength of politicians is to be tested in the Country today, Tinubu's name would come tops.
But the truth is, the current political tide in the country cannot throw up politicians in the mould of Awolowo, Bello or Zik. Thus, for Nigeria to break free from the shackles of PDP, Nigeria needs the Tinubu's of this world.

Nevertheless, Tinubu is not a saint. But in today's Nigeria, his brand of politics and party is the most realistic alternative to PDP. Love him or hate him,Tinubu can still be used to serve God's purpose for Nigeria...Remember Saul?

So true, cKaiser! Na today? 'Decamping'/'defection' has been a stamp on our democracy since 1999, with PDP as the biggest beneficiary! Empty boast by Peter Obi's lap-dog called Umeh! There are several other examples aside from these names. Gov Yuguda of Bauchi did the same- won election on the platform of ANPP and left for PDP; same manner Gov Saminu Turaki of Jigawa and Aliyu Shinkafi of Zamfara respectively left ANPP for PDP. Gov Ohakim of Imo also left PPA (Orji Uzor Kalu's party) for PDP, after winning under the PPA platform.

In the Senate (since 1999 till this day), there have been too many examples, which favoured PDP and nothing happened; heavens did not fall. The list is endless: Obanikoro, Ogunlewe, Wahab Dosunmu and co (AD to PDP); Bala Mohammed (ANPP to PDP), Adamu Aliero (ANPP to PDP), Al-bishir (ANPP to PDP), etc, etc.

Only among some of our deluded Governors is 16 greater than 19! Dumb arithmetic.

Only 10 Governors and 5 Deputy Governors attended the so-called 'fake Jang faction' NGF meeting, while the other 20 did not attend, neither did they send any representative. This says a lot about the deep division witin the NGF, and apparent failure of the senseless minority to have their way after an election they clearly lost.

I have read some terrible comments from people on Nairaland and elsewhere following this death- from the sadistic to the insane; from the ridiculous to the profane; from the inhumane to the devilish- just because his son took a social decision that was controversial, or just because his son belong to a rival political party...

I had the cause to meet Pa Ademola Fashola (fortuitously, though) between 2008 and 2012 two times in the public arena. One was at the Iponri Central Mosque Surulere and the other elsewhere. I approached the old man and stretched my hands, and bowed a bit (as Yorubas usually do). The old man shook my hands and we exchanged pleasantries. He packed his prayer mat by himself and walked away to his car- no police orderly, no aide, no assistant. On the other instance, years apart, I greeted him and he answered swiftly and stretched out his hands to greet me first. Most people, let alone elites, would restrain theirselves from greeting a complete stranger, especially a Governor's father!

His house off Bode Thomas Street Surulere, the house he lived till he died, was on a street without any trappings of the Governor's father's house. No wonder, Lagos PDP, in spite of the political rivalry with his son, wrote this about him yesterday: "Mr Tunji Shelle, Chairman of Lagos PDP, described the deceased as a patron who related well with others. On behalf of my family and of the teeming members of our party in Lagos State, I express our deep sorrow on the death of Pa Fashola, the beloved father of Gov. Fashola. The late Fashola was simple, focused and a thorough bred Lagosian whose personal character identity was also a reason why the young governor got no pressure from his father.
He was also known to be a silent achiever; it is very sad that Pa Fashola died before his son’s tenure in office ends". That was a honest eulogy from Lagos PDP (politics aside).

That desirable character of Pa Fashola (not applying pressure on his son for dispensing patronage) should remind fair-minded people of the contrast with parents of some politicians who become alternate Governors to their siblings. A particular case in reference was Mama Kalu, mother of Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State, who wielded so much power that she was called 'Mama Governor General' and the current Governor, Thedore Orji famously called the brand of democracy under Kalu as "Mamacrazy"...Any politician who needed any favour from Orji Kalu would 'camp' at the mother's house. Many got appointments from this direct lobby.

This Pa Fashola trait reminded me of the mother of General Tunde Idiagbon, deputy to General Buhari, whose mother sold kerosine at the family house in Ilorin (Idiagbon Compound) almost till death, even when her son was Nigeria's most powerful and most disciplined deputy Head of State (and in fact the de facto Head of State at the time). The old woman did not leave for Ilorin GRA or elsewhere, and the son did not insist she left...

All said, may God grant Papa's soul eternal rest, and uphold members of the larger Fashola clan.

Rest in peace, Papa. No man is perfect; majority of discerning Lagos residents thank God for you; for a soul through whom Babatunde Fashola, the irrepresible administrator, the man of great ideas, the Senior Prefect of all Nigerian Governors, was born. Nothing, not even a controversial social decision, can decimate the worth of your son. God bless your soul. Sincere condolences to the Fashola clan of Isale Gangan, Lagos Island.
