Obasanjo started the binge of defection and decamping. He, it was, who decimated the 2nd largest party ahead of the 2003 elections, ANPP, by dangling carrots (like special billions from Ecological Fund to their states, like PDP states got too- absolute corruption!) in the faces of their Governors and they defected enmasse to PDP subsequently. The list is long- Bauchi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Gombe, etc. Borno, which he couldn't take, for obvious reasons, he made their Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff (the same Sheriff!) his errand boy, whose body was in ANPP, but whose soul served Obasanjo in PDP! He even appointed ANPP National Chairman at that time, Waziri, as Special Adviser! Just imagine that- a PDP President appointed the National Chairman of the strongest opposition party- as Special Adviser! That was the nail on the coffin of ANPP- that party never recovered until it merged with others to form APC in 2013. Defection is Obasanjo's legacy. We tend to forget the past a lot in Nigeria. We may have forgotten that Obasanjo, who now writes letters all over the place, ordered soldiers to kill everybody in two towns- Odi (Bayelsa State), Zaki Biam (Benue State)- following the killing of some soldiers by locals. Those two towns were completely burnt down and thousands of Nigerians were murdered! |
nthony10:The story was about "a new political party" and a "Third Force" in the offing and you referred to Saraki who is a PDP chieftain. How is this new movement related to Saraki? |
zadokchidi:Haba! Lol. The ambassador of Nigeria to the US, who died, recently, on the job, was an Igbo man, a retired Supreme Court judge...Buhari appointed him. |
Mikecold:"A statement by Benue"? This is a Federal University (formerly called Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi as stated clearly on the title of the post!) and it was Buhari who announced and approved the change of name to Joseph Tarka University! Don't spread ignorance here... |
Asgard73:Daily Independent, owned by James Ibori, is now 'Yoruba media'? Are you insane? |
The old (existing) Oyo State Governor's Lodge in Abuja no longer befits the Governor? And another jamboree, with "modern furniture" had to be built for N1.2 billion? To those who truly believed that Makinde was "fresh air", when he was elected in 2015, he keeps disappointing them everyday! They are largely the same- looters!!! |
Daily Independent newspaper is owned by James Ibori. Connect the dots...QED. |
Is Fayose so stupid? Didn't he (and his candidate) read their party's election guidelines which stated the age limit for Youth Leader position as between 18 and 40 years? How did they present a 49-year old for a position that had 40 as maximum age ![]() This is beyond being daft!!! I didn't know that Fayose had no finesse...LOL. |
Yari is only doing a self-preservation stunt. He, it was, with Senator Kabiru Marafa, who killed APC with their stupid fight, which made Supreme Court to award ALL elections to PDP on a platter! In fact, some members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly didn't print a single poster and they were declared winners by the Supreme Court on account of the foolishness of Yari and Marafa! Yari knows that should Matawalle defect to APC, his stronghold on that party is gone! The new godfathers would be Matawalle and Sani Yerima (Matawalle's godfather). Fools they all are; they loot for their selves, family members, and acolytes only. They hate the masses with unbridled passion! God help us! |
PDP supporters on Nairaland are confused. Should they insult PDP Governor Matawalle after this balderdash? They can't. They couldn't. The North, less educated, but profoundly intelligent in terms of politics. Wike donated N500 million of Rivers State money to Sokoto State after a market fire incident. APC Governors and PDP Governors donated N50 million and N100 million respectively to Zamfara State, following a market fire. When will any APC or PDP Governor donate a single kobo to Oyo State after the fire incident at Agodi-Gate Market? Most politicians in Southern Nigeria are weak and daft! QED! The ever-savvy, discerning North would continue to dominate!!! |
If Matawalle is discerning enough, he should see that PDP's visit was an afterthought. A market got engulfed in fire and it took a visit of opposition APC governors and rumour of the imminent defection of Zamfara Governor to APC for PDP Governors, his colleagues, especially those in the North (nearby Sokoto and others) to pay a similar visit! In my view, this unintelligent visit by PDP Governors is damn too late. Matawalle, who wasn't truly elected as Governor (but benefitted from judicial pronouncements after APC's stupid internal squabble) is on his way to APC already! Did this same PDP Governors visit and donate a single kobo to Oyo State government after the fire at Agodi popular market in Ibadan? They did NOT. Interesting! |
Mikecold:Your analysis is too simplistic! It wasn't about "non-Northeners residing in Kaduna"! I'm talking about huge numbers of non-Northeners and people of multiple religions who travelled all the way from Lagos, Port Harcourt, Owerri, Ilorin, Ibadan, Ogbomosho, Oshogbo, Enugu etc, etc to Zaria for University education! In Ibadan, I remember so well, they had dedicated buses that conveyed students to Zaria as soon as we resumed from the endless ASUU strikes under Babangida and Abacha regimes. How were they residents of the North? For instance, I lived in Kwara State and my two room mates from second year to final year lived in Lagos, where they were born and bred. More than half of my classmates lived outside the North! Currently, we have a WhatsApp group and that attribute was reinforced in its membership. We have almost an equal number of Muslims and Christians; just as we have multiple ethinicities such as Igbo, Efik, Ibibio, Oron, Yoruba, Hausa, Angas, Birom, Fulani, Igala, Nupe, Kutep, Kaje, Tiv, Idoma, Kanuri, Bachama, Ebira, Koto, Baruba, etc, etc. Almost 60% of my lecturers in Zaria were non-Northeners! In fact, my project supervisor was a certain Odiongeyi (long deceased), a cerebral man from Cross Rivers State. My Marketing lecturer was Dr. Akpan, an Akwa-Ibom man. Mr. Osagiede (also deceased), an Edo man, was the Use of English lecturer in 100 level. I could go on and on... My several travels, across universities in Nigeria, for AIESEC regional and national events, such as National Congresses, as an undergraduate, in that era, proved my assertion about ABU Zaria being the MOST COSMOPOLITAN UNIVERSITY in Nigeria without any equivocation! These are facts that put a lie to your overtly wrong and simplistic analogy. |
Iykenuwa:I agree with ALL of these 100%. ABU Zaria is the MOST COSMOPOLITAN UNIVERSITY IN NIGERIA; every part of the country is represented, via staff (academic and non-academic), students, and administrators. I saw a solid mix of Muslims and Christians, almost all Nigerian tribes, foreigners, etc. You needed to have been educated there to know! I was admitted there 29 years ago, in 1992. It was a mini-Nigeria, in that era, and even now, as far as I am aware. |
From a newspaper, Daily Independent, owned by James Ibori!!! I laugh in Swahili. It's like believing a negative, planted story about PDP, published by Tinubu's The Nation newspaper! This is a worthless, non-existent story planted by the PDP; same way APC plants such nonsense stories about PDP in a newspaper owned by an APC chieftain. |
This had been the game plan from the BEGINNING! Buhari, Osinbajo, and almost ALL the APC governors supported Obaseki's re-election, except a few, like Hope Uzodimma. In fact, not only did Buhari refuse to attend Ize-Iyamu's final campaign rally in Benin, Osinbajo, who was supposed to represent him (as an afterthought) CANCELLED the rally at the last-minute (2 days to the election)! The current APC Caretaker Committee, headed by Mai Mala Buni, is full of anti-Oshiomhole elements, who wanted Obaseki's re-election. It is payback time from Obaseki to the new APC cabal...He will return to that party, very soon. |
Monday60655:Wike was NOT a Minister before Amaechi became a Governor! In fact, it was Amaechi, as a sitting Governor of Rivers State, who nominated Wike for appointment as President Goodluck Jonathan's Minister (junior) of State for Education! Don't lie to make your point... |
kabe1:AMAECHI: 1. 2-term Speaker Rivers State House of Assembly (elected) 2. Chairman, Conference of Speakers of All Houses of Assembly in Nigeria (elected) 3. 2-term Governor of Rivers State (elected) 4. 2-term Chairman Nigeria Governors' Forum (elected) 5. 2-term Director-General of a successful Presidential Campaign (appointed) 6. 2-term Minister (senior portfolio, Transportation) of the Federal Republic (appointed). WIKE: 1. Chairman, Local Government (elected) 2. Chief of Staff to Governor Amaechi (appointed) 3. 1-term Minister of State (Junior Minister) for Education- nominated by Amaechi when they were PDP members- (appointed) 4. 2-term Governor of Rivers State (elected). The difference is so CLEAR! You cannot compare Amaechi's CV and experience to Wike's... You may not like Amaechi, but he is Wike's MASTER, any day! |
This is one the reasons politicians continue to loot our commonwealth! These fools, who make up Ibori's village association in Lagos, are very much likely members of the looting elite, who must have benefitted from many dodgy contracts under Ibori's corrupt 8-year tenure as Governor... Ibori, who was a 'store rat' at a DIY store in London, was rich before he became Delta State Governor? Nigeria is like a young woman, who has become old and haggard, after having been countlessly raped by her own children (the citizens)! Where is our redemption as a people? Is this the way we shall continue? The elites do not care whether or not Nigeria fails, as far as they can continue to loot and plunder! Yet, the masses, who should know (and do) better, have been caged by ethnic, political, and religious bigotry, orchestrated by- wait for it- the same looting elite!!! |
The quality and level of thought process of ALMOST ALL our politicians is damn too LOW and POOR! First, because the older brother of a former 8-year Governor and current Senator, Gabriel Suswam, a known looter, whose EFCC case subsists, was assassinated, a security meeting of the entire Benue State had to be called by the pliant fool called Governor Ortom? The elites know how to take care of their ilk. If a poor farmer in Makurdi was assassinated, would daft Ortom have made a statement, let alone convene an entire security meeting? Two, just because the assassins used a particular brand of Toyota vehicle, popularly known as "duck yansh", the stupid Governor banned the use of that vehicle in the whole of Sankera area of Benue State? Innocent owners of that brand of Toyota cannot use their personal vehicles due to this nonsensical ban? So, this particular group of assassins (or other groups) can't use an entirely different brand of vehicle to commit crime? Again, if anyone got assassinated by a criminal gang that used a Mazda, ALL Mazda cars would be banned in that part of Benue too? Why are our politicians this stupid? Who did Nigerians offend, to the extent that we have this kind of leaders? Kai!!! |
Vanguard newspaper quoted the Chairman of Logo local government, Benue State, that his killers were definitely the boys of the late notorious Benue terrorist, Gana. He claimed that the boys openly threatened to kill anyone close to former Governor (now Senator) Gabriel Suswan, if they can't find Suswan, as a payback for his role in the murder of Gana. The Chairman added that Gana's boys have made telephone calls to several people they believed contributed to the death of Gana and and threatened to kill them. The Vanguard newspaper report claimed that the late older Suswam had many businesses and properties, including a Polytechnic, Rice Mill, FM Radio Station, among several others. |
NwaNimo1:But the Governor of Bauchi State, who said this, is a PDP member...Lol. |
Odiriance4all:It will FINALLY be FULLY (both sides) opened to traffic on Sunday, after the removal of all equipment and debris from Friday night through Saturday. The relief of people who live on the Island and work on the Mainland (and vice versa) could be heard from Nigeria to Nicaragua! Huge relief!!! LOL! |
obicoolnino:Not anymore. It stopped as far back as 2016, with the introduction of MRI scan test by CAF and FIFA. Have you seen these guys play recently? They are secondary school boys, reason they got bamboozled by their bigger opponents, recently. You may recall that many players in the age-grade categories (under 17, 21, etc), including Nigerian players, have continued to be disqualified after they had failed the test. One country was entirely disqualified from a recent age grade tournament in Africa. Those days of cheating in age-grade tournaments are gone! |
What's happening to PDP? The last time it was a fight between: 1. Gov. Matawale of Zamfara and all the PDP South-South Governors. 2. Gov. Wike of Rivers and Gov. Ayade of Cross River. 3. National Chairman Uche Secondus and Gov. Wike. And now, it's a bitter public vituperation and name calling between Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi and Gov. Ortom of Benue. Still raging fiercely is the fight between former Governor Fayose and Gov. Makinde of Oyo for control of South-West PDP. Yesterday, whereas Seyi Makinde-backed PDP South-West EXCO published in the newspapers, notice of caucus meeting holding today at Oyo State Government House, Agodi, Ibadan; the EXCO faction loyal to Fayose made the same publication in different newspapers of a caucus meeting to hold same day, today, February 23 2021, at Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos!!! These guys, in PDP, are a wobbling opposition when united, now not that they are fighting every time, how would they even do the little opposition activities they are doing? Saraki reconciliation committee has a lot to do. It's not looking good for that party! |
sammychimex:General Leo Irabor, the new Chief of Defence Staff, CDS (who is the MOST SENIOR SERVICE CHIEF) in an IGBO MAN FROM IMO STATE!!! Google is there! |
Brendaniel:General Leo Irabor, the new Chief of Defence Staff, CDS (who is the MOST SENIOR SERVICE CHIEF) in an IGBO MAN FROM IMO STATE!!! We shouldn't be so lazy. Google is there! |
Our courts in Nigeria! Na wa o! God dey!!! Our judiciary reflects who we are as a people. Shame! |
Most comments didn't acknowledge the slime export part. Snails produce slime, a well-sought-after input in industry; its value is far more than gold in the beauty products industry worldwide. That export market will be huge for the economy of Ekiti State, if this company could manage it well! It is good that it is NOT a government enterprise. |
The poster is obviously very young and ignorant about the nuances of boarding school. Her brother's weight loss is standard-practice experience for boarding students. In boarding houses, food (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) is rationed (unlike at home when he could eat five or six times a day!). Also, as opposed to being a day student, the strict regimen of afternoon and night prep, siesta, labour (inspection on Saturdays), strict 'lights out' (bed time) and wake time, etc in the boarding school, could have contributed to his weight loss. Additional opportunity for punishment, flogging ("general beating"), fetching water for seniors (and running of countless errands for seniors) are also experienced by only boarders. I attended a boys-only boarding school 35 years ago, 1985 and I "heard and saw WEN", like her brother might have heard or seen, lol. I lost weight too. This is NOTHING to worry about, agitated older sister! LOL. |
"Football players (Accord, APC, APGA, Labour, PDP, etc, etc) change clubs at will, and are friends and 'lovers', but their FANS (read: politicians' supporters) insult, denigrate, vilify, and kill each other online and offline", that is Nigerian politics. Any fool who insults, fights, and kills on behalf of politicians in Nigeria is DOOMED! |
Oh, Lagos State will miss the gentleman, DCP Disu! His RRS officers are the direct opposite of SARS: courteous, professional, empathic, generous, and civilian-friendly. A lot of Lagosians who have encountered you, and/or your highly professional men, wish you far better accomplishments in Abuja and in the future. Amen. DCP Tunji Disu's excellent tour of duty in Lagos RRS reinforces the fact that a good human being and a sound leader could emerge from a challenged organisation, such as the Nigerian Police. It's about the person and his values... |
flemsy15:You are obviously a young man/woman... During the military era (especially during Babangida and Abacha regimes, starting with Babangida) ASUU strike, when Dr. Attahiru Jega was ASUU National President, lasted over 11 months! In fact, under Abacha, ABU Zaria was shut for 14 months (ONE YEAR & TWO MONTHS!!!) and students in that era lost 2 academic sessions- 1994/1995 and 1995/1996 (the two sessions were cancelled!). The truth is, anyone who went to school during the military went through hell. There was no National Assembly to apply pressure on the Government, human rights activists were hounded, jailed, and killed (some bombed out of existence during Abacha's regime!), newspapers were shut and proscribed regularly (Punch, Guardian, defunct Sketch, etc suffered this fate and huge losses), there was no social media (Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc, etc); there were no smart phones (in fact there were NO PHONES AT ALL, we all used to queue at NITEL's public offices to make calls and everyone heard your conversation- a very harrowing experience it was!) to record anything; there was HUGE FEAR in Nigeria... Democracy, with its faults, is FAR BETTER! |
