4llerbuntu:I can't believe this post has gone unchecked until now. What in heavens are you talking about? The unibody Macbook has almost all those things you mentioned. The Macbook (Pro & non-Pro) have an optical drive, card reader, replaceable RAM and battery, and a mini displayport which is essentially the same signal as hdmi in a more compact package. Hardly any laptop comes with upgradeable LAN card. That is usually embedded into the system board. You can always get an add-on Usb network card if you want, but why the hell would you need that anyway? Certainly you wouldn't be silly enough to compare the iPad, or even the Macbook Air to a full-fledged laptop. Those devices were designed to be super-mobile. The Macbook Air is 0 .4 - 2cm thick. One of the thinnest laptops ever made. It doesn't have an optical drive like most netbooks. But it does have replaceable RAM and battery. |
Yes, because it's worked tremendously so far. :sarcasm: |
I had a good time for the most part. I missed the parade, but was at the concert on 2nd Ave. I ended going to the afterparty in Queens, as I was guessing Moka would be packed. Queens was packed to. Someone told me there was as many as five afterparties. Naija people, sha. Are there any photos of the pageant winner? |
bermuda1:That is interesting, but I still think India is still one of the least athletic nations in the world. They do seem to succeed in sports like cricket. But that's a boring sport and requires little athleticism. Or field hockey, which no one cares about. 18 total Olympic medals for a population of 1 billion is pathetic. |
lol. I'm in one of these videos. I'm not saying which one. ![]() |
chyz:I think you're missing the point. This fool just insulted all black Africans and blacks all over the world. Not only did he call us ignorant. He went as far as comparing European influx of African migrants to savage invasions. As if migrants from North Africa are any more enlightened that those from sub Saharan Africa. This is the guy you're calling an African leader? How can he champion the African cause when he looks down upon blacks in this way, because last time I checked the majority of all Africans were black. smh at your response. O boy you really miss road. |
Yes. And so does the tooth fairy, the Easter bunny, and Father Christmas. Oh and don't forget the other deities such as the Invisible Pink Unicorn and the Flying Spaghetti Monster. |
I have no problem with this. Yes I do think it's silly, but humans do all sorts of silly things for fun, and besides it's a good way to get non-419 publicity. The issue is with the president's involvement. When do you ever see heads of state being involved in such shenanigans? This Goodluck man is consistently a fool of himself. First he tried to ban national football, and now this. Does this guy even know the responsibilities of a president? He is really looking like one jobless individual. |
What a joke. Wyclef is always trying to act like he's all connected to his mother's land. He is Haitian mostly by inheritance. The guy grew up in New Jersey, not Port au Prince. He doesn't even speak French well. I doubt his Creole is even up to standard. Yet he things he can understand all the intricacies of the country and political situation in Haiti. Give me a break. Me that, I've spent half of my life out of Naija, I won't even dare pretend that I can be a good politician over there. Even besides that, on what basis does he want to run. Nonsense. This woulda been like Biggie trying to run for prime minister of Jamaica. |
You people must have a different meaning of traditional. All this Psquare, Olu Maintain, and Dbanj nonsense is not traditional Naija music. |
Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers Karma Police - Radiohead Hey Jude - The Beatles Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley version (written by L Cohen) |
LOL. How can government official be using yahoo mail? This is silly. |
Brazil just have too much swagger. Sorry Chile |
I will never understand why FIFA (Blatter) is so technophobic. It's a damn shame that there have been so many terrible calls this world cup. It overshadows all the good football so far. |
Come on Germany, make it 5-1 so England can finally shut up about 2001. 6-1 would even be more grand. |
Thank God Germany scored more goals, because if final score was 2-1 I guarantee we will never hear the end of it. I think I see a 5-1 scoreline, lol |
!!! |
They need to put in at least 5 more goals to have a chance. I can't see Portugal losing by more than 2 |
femmy26:LOL! Post of the week. |
Angie, you have to read the fine print. The list you linked to may be published by U.S. News, but it says right at the top of the page:U.S.News & World Report's World's Best Universities rankings, based on the QS World University Rankings, identified these to be the world's top universities in 2009.QS World University Rankings is published by the Times of London, which is a UK source and I repeat is biased towards UK universities. That's why the lists are identical. And even besides that, all I'm saying is that the only meaningful way to compare schools is by particular major/field. For example how can you compare London School of Economics (specialty school) to Cambridge. It makes no sense. In fact, the same UK source you cited further ranks schools by subject matter. Take for example Engineering/Science or Medicine: See who comes out on top. Even read the various opinions of UK students. Most UK universities are living off former prestige. Cambridge and Oxford are among the oldest universities in the world, and produced many great minds in their time, but that is the past. Case in point, over the past two decades or so, Stanford University has won three times as many Nobel Prizes as the universities of Oxford and Cambridge have combined. Not to talk of schools like Harvard, Princeton,Yale, and MIT. And yes, the US is 300 million strong (5x uk). So what. It is still a relatively young, and vibrant country. Britain was once a great empire, much larger population wise than the U.S. The rapid population growth can be attributed to the fact that people wanted to come here, and the U.S. has welcomed them. And besides the UK still has a large population of 60 million, and is by no means a small island. I'm not belittling their contributions to the world, but just saying most of those contributions happened eons ago. You're really reaching far as Britain's recent accomplishments. James Watson, is credited along with Crick for DNA discovery. Also Frank Whittle may have been the first to patent a jet engine, but by no means the first, or sole inventor. It was a German, Hans von Ohain, who designed the first operational jet engine. Sure, Britain has contributed some good things recently, but their influence has waned and it's not solely due to population as you're implying. As for your sour grapes thing, OK. Sure. Yes I like the US, but I do not love it. In fact I hate some things about the culture here. See I'm an objective person. I just felt I had to take you up since you are constantly blabbering on about how great the UK is, posting endless pictures of the place, as if the country is paying you to defend her honour. One only need to look at your post history to see you have made being a cheerleader for the UK your life work. All that said at the end of the day, I'm still omo Naija, and that's the only place I love. I hope one day we will be among the greats. |
I honestly don't care about these incessant UK vs US debates. It's funny how these threads always consist of the same jobless folks. Personally, I live in upstate New York and travel frequently to NYC and about the U.S and Canada. I like it here and have no desire to live in the UK though I've visited a number of times. My career is far more suited to the States, and I like the life I live here. As far as Angie's claims that the universities in London are superior to MIT, that is just downright silly. I know you are just quoting the TIMES of London rankings, which is unsurprisingly biased towards UK universities. The whole concept of ranking universities across the board is disingenuous at best. MIT is an engineering/scientific school, and at that is it's bread and butter. It is among the best in the world in that category. As many US universities are. I'm sure UCL/Imperial have their strong points, but just saying that one university is better across the board makes absolutely no sense. I looked at some UK universities before deciding to come to the U.S., but in the technical/science aspect of things they are far behind. Take a look at more objective rankings (by subject), and you will see for yourself. Almost all of Britain's technological accomplishments you've mentioned came heydays ago. A great majority happened when the US was still a British colony, and many even before that. We aren't living in the 1700s or even the 1900s anymore. The glory days of Newton, Faraday and Darwin are long gone. |
Must all these unfunny jokes be posted ad nauseum? We get it. Kaita f*cked up. We are already suffering enough due to our piss poor football team. Now you wan kill us with dry yans. |
I think Puma would be much better for Nigeria. I have a subscription to a soccer merchandise magazine in the U.S, and Puma is doing a hell of a good job promoting Africa and African teams (Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana) and even have the 'Represent Africa' campaign going on. Not to mention, they have far better design sense than Adidas. No single Nigerian merchandise in this magazine. Adidas seems to not give a s.hit. |
damn paddy_lo, you beat me by 3 seconds. are you watching online too? Our boys aren't looking too bad from the little I've watched of the match |
goooooooooooooal! |
Sagamite:How are the Central bank governor and the army chief not key people in the country? Are they not government officials? Not to mention that a number of parliament members were also on the plane. Read the articles. Or are you just arguing for the sake of arguing? Flying government officials on multiple planes is just basic strategy that most governments employ. |
I'm surprised so many of Poland's key people were on the same plane. Most countries and corporations have a policy of flying key officials on different planes to minimize damage in case of a plane crash. Not to mention that the Tupolev 154 has an horrendous safety record to begin with. Sad, but Such is life. |
chidyke77:Thank you! People don't seem to realize that this is a ranking of major cities. Lagos is not necessarily the 5th worst city on the list. There are probably small cities the world over that are worse than Lagos. But for a major city, Lagos is near the bottom end. And another thing is that big cities tend to be less "livable" because large population means more pollution, higher competition for resources, more crime etc. |
sulad82i:What the hell are you talking about? I live in NYC. The only way NYC and Lagos compare is in terms of population. Both cities are way overcrowded. Other than that, there are no comparisons. |
Nescoemmy:Lagos may not be our capital, but it is our largest city and centre of commerce. Who should be be applauded? |
Straight from the horse's mouth: http://www.eiu.com/site_info.asp?info_name=The_Global_Liveability_Report&page=noads Ouch! It's getting harder and harder to defend my country when these lists keep on coming out. |
Are there any photos of the pageant winner?
