I hate tribal marks, and the spraying of money. |
LOL. We Nigerian's sure are a self loathing bunch. In terms of resources (natural, human, and otherwise), we are capable of being the giant of Africa, but for some reason we can't get our act together. I'll say at the moment, we are just big for nothing. |
It's not just Nigerian hip-hop. I think the rap/hip-hop genre usually just does not grant itself well to live performance. I've been to a few quality hip-hop concerts (Roots, Black Star, Common, even Jay-Z), but most were complete rubbish. Hip Hop artists for the most part are talentless, imho. Rap is fun to listen to on your car stereo, but it is hardly well replicated on the stage. I've been lucky to see live performances like Prince, Femi Kuti, Lagbaja, and even a few rock concerts, and I would see any of these before going to a live rap show again. |
She's an attractive lady, but she lives in New York AFAIK. |
If I see someone sagging, I automatically think the person is a fool. It's mostly black Americans that do it over here, although some oyinbo try and imitate. I especially get angry when I see Naija boys trying to copy the foolish style |
Abuja does not have waterfront, and hence no beaches. Lagos, on the other hand, has the potential be a tropical paradise a la Jamaica, and the Caribbean islands. Abuja, unfortunately, is landlocked. Lagos for me, sha. Hopefully I'm not too old when this Eko Atlantic thing manifests. |
khai_khai:You read my mind. Nairaland spellchecker is a useless feature. Firefox spellchecker works quite nicely, and you can even set it based on the region (eg UK / US / Aus English). IE must have an equivalent. What really is needed is a Naija-English oriented grammar checker so I don't have to read so many posts from some of these bush people blowing grammar like there's no tomorrow. |
flyuche:While 3g datacards are nice and convenient, they were never meant as a substitute for a hard-wired broadband connection. The data rates and latency are not even comparable. @op, I was also disappointed in connection speed when I visited Naija. It was downright awful. I went to cybercafes, universities, and other businesses, and I almost wanted to gouge my eyes out waiting for pages to load. The mtn 3.5g connection was alright but somewhat expensive. I will guess the problem is infrastructure. Optical fibre cable capable of enabling high data transfer rates is needed. |
this is just too sad. |
I have quite a few Indian friends here in the US, and most of them (Hindus, Christians, etc) do the arranged marriage thing. It seems to work for them, but that one can never work for me. When the time is right, I will go back to Naija on my wife hunting trip, nothing will be arranged by my family. |
Though there are plenty of merchants on eBay, many of the items are sold by private individuals, and not merchants. Hence there is a risk associated with the initial purchase. Adding a middleman into the situation would only further complicate the matter if the seller didn't live up to his part of the deal. If I were in Naija and I wanted something from Ebay, I would not use any such service. And to Ccomputers I would not even consider using a service from someone with such poor internet etiquette. I understand you want to hustle your product, but you are spamming the boards with your constant sales pitches. Also typing in all caps as perceived as shouting on the web, and is commonly practised by retards. |
It's good to see that more Nigerians are starting to understand the importance of roll on. I am always dismayed when I visit Naija and am overtaken by my foul smelling countrymen. I try not to stick my nose at them, but at the same time I wish they would get the message. Taking a shower and using roll on every day should be a commandment. I just can not respect someone that has body odour. |
Funny how everyone is calling this an act of god. So if the plane had crashed and everybody on board perished should we then curse God. Can't have it both ways. The outcome was due to a cool-headed smart, pilot, a highly competent evacuation team, and chance (good luck), not any supernatural nonsense. |
WesleyanA:no apple doesn't suck. you suck. ![]() |
The Sony Vaio (pcg-k13) that I had was absolute crap. Sure it had a bright screen, but it was also quite bulky and heavy (for its time), and had horrible battery life (definitely a minus for Nigeria). On the other hand, my Dell Latitude has been the most functional laptop I ever used, even though it doesn't have all the bellls and whistles, and it also has an excellent warranty. As for performance, a laptop is simply a function of its components, and has nothing to do with the manufacturer. Having said that, the Apple Macbook Pro is simply superior to all other laptops if money is not an issue. No question about it, and it easily runs crappy Windows OS if you're so inclined. |
Having spent an equal number of my formative years in both the U.S and Nigeria, I have to say there are pluses and minuses to both. Firstly, I agree with those that say that parenting is the main factor in determining a child's destiny. I think being a child in Nigeria will stifle your creativity. You do as you're told and don't question anything. Everything is about being obedient, and thinking outside the box is not encouraged. Take for example secondary school in Nigeria. See how everything was: copy notes, cram for exam, cram for WAEC, cram for JAMB. Little emphasis on understanding and creativity. That will never lead to an innovative society, and I think that is a large part of Nigeria (and Africa's) problem On the flip side, here in this part of the world where kids are given unlimited freedoms, there are many undisciplined, disobedient, self obsessed, brainwashed, oversexed idiots. If I ever have children and I have the means I will do the same thing with them and have them spend time in both places |
A_K_O:lol @ this thread. You religious types really do enjoy grasping at straws. The video was made by a guy, who is himself a non-Christian. It is comical and in fact mocking Christianity if you actually watch it. I find it funny that you'd think something like that helps to illustrate your point or reflects any sort of harsh reality. You are reading something into absolutely nothing. |
Seun:Seun, I always thought you were delusional. Now I am certain of it. |
presido1:When I say US, I speak of the US media. And that is how I have known US media networks to rank, by total number of medals. Of course, like many things the US does, this system is flawed. |
I agree that USA's method of ranking medals is silly, but they have always ranked them by total medals even when they topped gold medal count. The only difference is that nobody cared then since the US topped both total and gold medal counts. |
onyinye2:Are you daft? The US sent 11 times more athletes than Jamaica. So they should have won 66 golds. Not to mention that the population of the US is over 100 times the population of Jamaica. |
Regardless of what U.S. news networks seem to think, the gold medal is worth far more than any other medal. Silver and bronze are just consolation medals. I think the IOC should adopt a point system instead of a medal count. gold =3pt;silver = 1pt; bronze=0.5pt With the current medal standings China == 49*3+19*1 +28*0.5= 180 pts USA == 33*3+36*1+36*0.5 = 153 pts If you take into account representation, Jamaica is the #1 performer in these games. They sent only 59 athletes, as opposed to the US and China whom both sent nearly 700 olympians |
hollandis:Chambers? Nawa. The guy is not even American. Dwain Chambers is a Brit? Cheats will eventually be caught. I doubt Phelps is a cheat. He would have been caught after '04 (where he also dominated) if that was the case. I agree the Marion Jones fiasco was embarrassing for US athletics, but to judge the whole US by the few cheats is unfair. |
huxley, you imply that the US is the second most religious country in the world. That is simply not true. Maybe if you're talking of developed nations possibly, but African and South American countries are far more religious than the U.S. |
Do you people bother to read or comprehend things at all? The list that has been repeatedly posted is a Webometrics ranking. Basically it's a ranking of internet presence and web impact of various universities. It is NOT a quality of education ranking. Yes it is an indicator of quality, but a very small one. And yes the list is fairly accurate, but it should not be taken out of context. Having perused many Nigerian university websites, I am not surprised that our country is so poorly represented in the list. Many of the websites are just plain tacky, do not function, full of dead links, and have all sorts of grammatical errors (shellings galore!). So the list is no surprise at all. |
Nigeria - Oil = Somalia. Edit: I see someone beat me to the chase |
Change my life? LOL. O boy, you funny o. Nairaland is just one of many forums I visit when I'm bored. It hasn't changed my life in anyway. Seun, I know you are proud of your website and all, but methinks you're a bit delusional if you think your messageboard can be some sort of life-changing mechanism. There are literally millions of messageboards all over the web. |
Black people did not become black. Black (African) man is the original man. Every other race of people came from the black race. That is why we are the kings and queens of the earth. |
Yes. His lies as a justification for the silly war has led to the death of thousands of innocent Iraqis. The man deserves to be hanged for his crimes. |
I don't like the way you sterotype all Nigerians as generous. Some of us are cheap, penny pinching misers. Thank you very much. |
