All add-on domains under the same account do not have individual cPanel accounts/interfaces. All add-on domains registered under an account can only be accessed under that account's cPanel interface. |
kheme:Its the common interface for all orderbox supersites. Its so rigid I think the only thing you can change is the header, their services you will like to resell on the supersite and the currency. Same interface goes for other host service providers like lovingdomains.com, tridomainhost.com e.t.c. Lagoshost, change the default title of the supersite to something else. |
^^^ wont be bad if you came up with a better design for those people ![]() |
Ok guys, show's over. This thingy has been brought to the Webmasters section from God knows where. I wonder why. ![]() Stay on course with the thread or beat it. Webmasters don't do trash, so y'all keep the brags and trash in Politics or wherever this came from. |
You guys should stop making this thing look like its as easy as piece of cake. OP, it is not as easy as anyone is preaching here. You will need a good knowledge of the cPanel/WHM interface. This is the normal trend for a one-man show hosting start up. You start with a reseller account > when things get better and you have more confidence in your skills, you get a VPS > when things improve and you want to start taking control of the whole shows you get a Dedicated server > now if u're making mad money you can then think of collocation, else you stick with the dedicated server level. Please employ staff when things start looking good, so you can provide good support to your customers. Please do not oversell your quota, its a webhosting sin. Please don't think it is easy, it is not. You will lose sleep when things go wrong (yes things will go wrong, you're working with machines) Learn to be very professional Learn to be very friendly with even the most hostile client. Join webhosting communities and increase your knowledge and catch up with trends. I will break down the knowledge needed for the different webhosting type Reseller Hosting Good knowledge of cPanel/WHM You should know how to create packages You should know how to create accounts You should know how to read logs You should know how to monitor your system status You should know how to trace problems to specific user. You should know how to rely on google when you face strange error messages There are more but this is all I can remember. VPS Hosting Knowledge of all the above mentions stuff for reseller hosting Knowledge of Linux and its commands Good troubleshooting skills Dedicated server Knowledge of the above mentioned stuff You know really really know what you're doing as a linux admin Be prepared to crash your server plenty times (yea that's my favorite) ![]() Be prepared for server downtimes and have a PLAN B. In addition to all these please read about DNS, DNS propagation, Domain registration, Domain renewal, Domain transfer and DNS change. Webhosting is a sensitive thing, you either do it right or don't at all. Its lotsa people's data involved. |
eddybanty:I learnt how to perfectly use 3 fingers for the 4 arrow keys on the keyboard (eyes off) through car racing games like NFS-hot pursuit, NFS-underground e.t.c. So you see a kid getting addicted to a game, I see a kid forging out a life as a geek. ![]() |
Donpuzo:Don't get me wrong. I am not against asking questions here. That however doesn't mean we shouldn't try Google first before asking. Most of the questions that are being asked here are things that have been faced by others in a million and one other places and Google has indexed those perfectly. So why not save everyone the redundancy of information on the internet (and save yourself some quality time) and just try Google first. Thus far I have seen the problem is people do not know how to make Google work for them, they see it as a mere research tool. I get perplexed when a person asks me a question and i direct the person to Google and he tells me he doesn't know what keyword to use! Sometimes I go. . . "for the love of God, dude you just asked me a question and how the heck cant you just ask google that same question like you asked me?" or something like that. Google's AI has even gone a step further with the "did you mean" feature. The Google search engine means different things to different people and I am not about to enforce my ideology of the Google usage on anyone. Today I am a very good Linux administrator among other things. I run my own dedicated servers in Datacenters in Germany and UK and I have never contacted the datacenters' technical support for anything (I wont even think of it, they don't speak English too well. I have however rehearsed the sentence "one of the HDs in my RAID setup is broken, replace it please" in german :-P I hope i never get to use it), I save about 250 Euros a month because I don't have to pay a Server Management firm to take care of my servers and harden them with firewalls against attacks. I do all that myself and I learnt all of that from the internet in a few weeks (and still learning new things cuz learning never stops). I made several Google queries a day, I query things ranging from single words in error messages or linux commands to "how tos" right down to copy/pasting an entire error block and I always get results from the very wide community of learned humans. In all this, I can't remember making a post asking a question cuz in 100 out of 100 (of my problems) someone else already faced it somewhere and a solution has been given. |

You are able to install scripts directly from your cPanel through the cPanel addon called Fantastico. It is not mandatory that your host offers Fantastico with their package because its not part of the cPanel/WHM core interface and it even attracts its own extra cost because its license is different from the main cpanel license. A cPanel upgrade is necessary at this point but it is not a solution to this problem. A Fantastico upgrade is necessary. Using Fantastico is not mandatory, it just makes work easier and shields you from installing scripts as they are supposed to be installed normally, which will involve going to the source of the script and downloading it, then uploading it to a location on your server and then reading the manual on installation and so on. Check the Joomla website on information on how to install Joomla on your website. Fantastico is just a tool to make it easy, if the tool is broken it doesn't mean you have to stop work. |
Hey, you left PH yet? If you havn't you can get 'em from me. I got a collection of about 27 drupal books.

Donpuzo:You see this is where our problem lies. We see google as a search engine. I see google as my best buddie. I get hit with a problem from outter space and i turn to google and i'm like "hey buddie i am having so so so issues, any ideas?" Sure google will always have practical Ideas. You don't need to spend ages phrasing a question for google. Just say it like it friggin is in your head. I personally do not know what i have not googled. I google everything! There are millions of online communities with solutions to all the problems you will ever face in your cyber life because someone somewhere has faced those problems and practical solutions have been given. When you're faced with tough questions in your cyber life, google has answers. |
No. cPanel upgrades are done through SSH (command line) or through the WHM interface. You must have root access to the server for either of the options. If your host service provider is running a reseller account, there is nothing they themselves can do but to ask the upstream providers to upgrade. Mbeki:Can you explain exactly why you cant? |
By default webservers come configured to see the index.Bleep page ("Bleep" could be anything, html, htm, php e.t.c) as the page that should come up first. Some host companies have gone further to add other filenames that can act as the home page if present, filenames like frontpage.Bleep, homepage.Bleep, home.Bleep e.t.c. It is best to stick with naming your homepage as index.Bleep |
