Siemens Energy said it has received an order from Niger Delta Power Holding Company for construction of the Geregu II gas turbine power plant in Ajaokuta, about 200 kilometer south of Abuja. The order volume is approximately E230 million (about N43.24 billion).

The gas-fired power plant is scheduled to start commercial operation in late 2012.
Geregu II is a follow-up project to the Geregu I power plant, which Siemens built back in 2006. The company will supply three SGT5-2000E gas turbines, the electrical equipment and an SPPA-T3000 instrumentation and control system for the 434MW plant, which it will build as a turnkey project, the company said.
Michael Suess, CEO of the fossil power generation division of Siemens Energy, said: "After construction of the Afam and Geregu I power plants the order for Geregu II marks a further milestone for Siemens in Nigeria and in Africa. With the latest project the number of Siemens heavy-duty gas turbines in Nigeria will increase to eight."
The Geregu power plant, established under the National Independent Power Project, was among the plants inaugurated by former President Obasanjo shortly before he handed over power in 2007.Nigerian Geregu Gas Turbine Power Plant 1, the first brand new power plant funded and commissioned by his Obasanjo administration was built at a cost of euro 195m ($256 million ), it has the capacity to generate 414 megawatts of electric power.

FYI, geregu 2 was never fully paid for by the OBJ administration. Besides how many of such contracts are FULLY paid for before it starts. If you are talking of Geregu 1 ie the 414MW that has been operating as an island for years I'll say fine. But not Geregu 2. I worked at Ajaokuta so I am well informed about things. I don't need any twisted media reports.

I don't need to tell you but I believe you know the JTF spokesman had to plead with journalist to be circumspect with information immediately the state of emergency was declared. At the same time they have to show nigerian that they are working and successful too. and they did that within available evidences. Besides, you should know that it took almost a month between of the time shekau was shot to the time the statement of his death was released. I don't need to explain the reasons to you. ( they simply wanted to be very sure and also to get evidence. but from their judgement he was shot and could not have survived) but Nigerians need to know.

Another thing is the issue of the PR guys being used by the president, they are simply pathetic. Constantly making wrong utterances as they have successfully done a shoddy job at protecting our nelipot president, that they are best described as unprofessional, based on their maledicent pronunciations. It is quite Jumentous that the office of the president can not afford to employ the right set of PR guys apart from a failed politician and a journalist. What does a journalist know about PR? Egbin is 1320MW (and I doubt it was even fully functional at this time); Kainji, Shiroro and Jebba are together not up to 2000MW. These were d major Power plants at that time, so where did he get his 6000MWs from??

The Chairman, Electric Power Foundation, Mr. Otis Anyaeji, speaking, recalled that the total installed capacity in 1972 was 523.6 megawatts. By 1990, this had increased to 6,000MW.

Total installed capacity is not the same as what is being generated and transmitted. most of our stations work below installed capacity for some reasons.

Delta Central Senatorial Election- Festus Keyamo and His Dance of Shame


The Nigerian activists, with exception of some labour leaders and firm fiery journalists are people I don’t trust; knowing that behind that seemingly dogged appearance lays an ulterior motive, which later than sooner gets exposed. Knowing this at the back of my mind, it wasn’t a shocker to me when I saw in Vanguard newspaper last year an advertisement by a group, Delta Front United (DFU), led by an activist cum lawyer, Festus Keyamo, urging Deltans to join in the rescue mission (apology to Rochas Okorocha). Thus I knew the game was up! I concluded my long belief that those Keyamo years of activism will end up with political ambition, and not just any mere ambition, but the mouth watering governorship ambition and like a bombshell, a few weeks later Keyamo declared his ambition. Can someone please tell me that I’m dreaming?

Keyamo, a governor? Now let’s not get it wrong. I have always admired Keyamo as a lawyer and an activist. I’m even a fan of his. Each time I drive past the Festus Keyamo chambers along Maryland, Lagos, very close to Anzaggi communication(not so sure of the spelling now), I never fail to take a glance at his chamber. The fiery Keyamo who is often addressed as a ‘Lagos lawyer’ should know that there is a big gap between activism and politicking. Be not deceived, they don’t complement each other. Let no one give me the old woman’s tale of “they dragged me into the race, my people asked me to run”, as I’m convinced that Keyamo has nursed the ambition for long.

Even journalists like me who are mouth piece of the people have mostly been swallowed by Nigeria style of politics. Need we say that Keyamo is a lawyer whose profession is not a delight to the masses? Reuben Abati and Labaran Maku will be case studies for future media students. The Keyamo I know as an activist should not take the opportunity of governor Uduaghan dismal performance as an excuse to contest. Uduaghan non performance is judged on his inability to beat former governor Ibori legacy of performance in terms of construction and manpower. In Imo State, the people cried foul because immediate past governor, Ikedi Ohakim could not surpass his predecessor, Chief Achike Udenwa. Akwa Ibom governor, Godswill Akpabio is getting accolades in the media (though paid for) because Victor Attah only started the project from the foundation but Akpabio built and solidified it. Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole is basking in the euphoria of good governance, because the predecessor, Mr. Lucky Igbenedion performed woefully and shamelessly. I could mention on and on.

The Keyamo I know should have vied for a lower position, but even at that, he will still get his fingers burnt. Why? He’s only known among the elites and the tag, ‘Lagos lawyer’ appended to his name is not politically accepted in the Delta terrain. More ironical is the fact that not until he declared his ambition did most people know that he was not a Yoruba but Deltan. This is his undoing. When the shock of his gubernatorial aspiration was yet to settled down, Keyamo switched over to Delta Central senatorial ambition to become a Nigerian senator, a vacuum created by Pius Ewherido death. True politicians are not prostitutes that change like the weather. His sudden switch betrays his lack of principle, a man who does not know what he truly wants.

Can someone please tell Keyamo that those urging him only want to waste the resources he has garnered over the years? The Keyamo we know is only suitable to defend the masses and not to Lord over them? Every voice must not be heard at the centre stage. The millions of Naira starched by Keyamo in his various banks account should be channeled into a worthy cause in Delta State. With such done, the masses in the state can then draft him into the political race. Any good leader who must aspire to sudden Olympian height ought to have read Robert Greene ’48 Laws of power’ and I’m beginning to doubt if Keyamo has read it. If he has, he should read it again and again; if he has not, I volunteer to buy an original copy for him or give him my copy.

I knew he won’t contest under the leaking umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but his contesting under the newly dedicated baby; All Progressive Change (APC) is an error. For all I know, the APC won’t waste their political chance on a neophyte like him. There the DFU will come again, arguing that the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) featured Nuhu Ribadu as her presidential candidate during the last general election. Wrong line of thought, dear DFU; Ribadu is a household name, a loner and czar in the anti-corruption battle and not activism where there are thousands of us. The fact that he won Osun State during the 2011 presidential election is a pointer to that. Can Keyamo win his own Uvwie local government area as a chairman, need we say a senator? The answer is a big fat “NO”! Therein lies the crux of the matter.

Even if the Deux Ex Machina comes at work and Keyamo wins as a senator, or Governor, he still stand unprepared to lead a district or state like Delta with her multiple ethnic complexity. I sure will be among the early caller to his resident to congratulate him and give him my piece of advice for the journey ahead. It does take years in labour or government settings as an appointee or civil servant to know how it works. Agreed that he was a key member of the defunct National Conscience Party which had Gani Fawehimi as its presidential candidate and thus can lay claim to have participated in politics of recent time. Gani’s experience at the poll should be an eye opener to him that the dirty politics of Nigeria do not fit his likes; at least, not now. He needs not go far to take a cue of what awaits him at the poll and the dance of shame he has began to dance with strange bedfellows beating the drum. Truly, his ambition for now is a dance of shame. However, I welcome him to his first baptism of political fire.

Keyamo as a lawyer is good, Keyamo as an activist is brilliant, Keyamo as the masses ‘mobilizer’ is excellent, but the toga of a ‘distinguished senator’ or his ‘Excellency’ is for now not so palatable. Who will wake Festus Keyamo from this slumber? Keyamo, Keyamo, Keyamo; how many times did I call you?

ASUU's demand is not insensitive, but can and will become insensitive very soon. Because the Health workers, Judicial workers, Radio/TV workers, Police etc all need attention.

viii. Transfer of Federal Government Landed Property to Universities

ix. Setting up of Research Development Council and Provision of Research Equipment to laboratories and classrooms in our universities.


At a time when none of our Nation's universities ranks among the World's top 3000, when we have the highest number of out-of-school children, I dare anyone to hold hand on heart and point to key areas of focus which can be sacrificed from the list presented above.
As an individual fully committed to laundering the image of a government which refuses to tackle profligacy or even prune its high recurring expenditure, it is no surprise that Sincere 9gerian argues, as he has done, that our interests are best served by investing mainly in BASIC education - a low hanging fruit. Notice there is no talk about much needed RESEARCH, which would help tackle some of the intractable problems which continue to plague our nation.

I was astounded to learn Ghana spends 31% per cent of its budget on education, Uganda 27%, while Nigeria spends a miserly 8.5% even as it supports the world's most expensive legislature.

The truth is; hackneyed arguments about precisely when the rot started would not wash any longer, because there is a growing consciousness which recognises that good government is about righting the wrongs of the past.

Can you state the steps the govt have take to meet the above stated. how much have the govt committed. Or are we saying the government have not visited any of the demands?

If we can bring this out, then let's look at it objectively

My question is

- at what point do you re-visit an agreement? No agreement is sacrosanct. the ASUU agreement was based in certain empirical indices. such should be looked into. was source of funding for the agreement factored into the pact? If it wasn't and there are presently constraint, then it should be revisited and workable plane fashioned out. no big deal.

- If at this point the strike is not called off, it's reasonable to say it has been hijacked by political interests to malign the government. because ASUU is the one having a hard stand.

-People lie about their wages. even lecturers. so all these figures one see around are not so true.

-ASUU should know that every sector in the country have reasons to go on strike. If every sector of the economy should take a hard stand just like ASUU, nothing will work.

- ASUU should make reasonable demands; at least something that is workable for now and go back to work.

I repeat, at this juncture, that if ASUU can not look for ways to end the strike, then it is political.

I have listened to the former minister, Benue state governor, the NUC president, NANS president and ASUU president. without prejudice, I think ASUU should call of the strike.

Those telling ASUU to continue are not being broadminded. Some of them have political bias. They base their argument on "agreement"

What if Crude oil goes for 10 dollars per barrel before the end of this month will they still hinge the demands on "agreement" ?

ASUU should for now look at what is workable and open the school before they lose their goodwill.
