A HOUSE of Representatives member, Opeyemi Bamidele, on Saturday, disagreed with the leadership of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) that he should drop his governorship ambition in the 2014 election for incumbent governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

The leadership of the party, including its national chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, former governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, among others, were at Ado Ekiti during the week where they endorsed Fayemi for a second term and advised Bamidele to “mellow down”.

But Bamidele, while addressing his supporters, Saturday, said he is not ready to step down for Fayemi and vowed to forge ahead with his ambition.

The lawmaker, who will turn 50 on July 29, said he had decided to shelve his 50th birthday celebration in honour of Ekiti people, whom, he said, are still languishing inpoverty. “I cannot be celebrating a birthday in the midst of poverty,” he said.





The highlighted, is a serious indictment on the governor and the party he represent.

Firstly, Your statements tells me you are excluding yourself from Nigerians. Are you a foreigner? what is "YOU ALL" ?

Secondly, I'm not one of the emotional type when it comes to politics hence I don't pitch my tent with any political group. I look at things dispassionately and make my decisions.

Thirdly, what is it with you and the statement "I don't give a damn" Please when making reference to it, use it relative to the context it was used. Besides, when the president made the statement he used it; stating that the issue was a matter of personal principle.(public declaration of asset).The way you refer to the statement is somewhat politically skewed.

I am not a sycophant. I'm able to make objective judgement. If we have an elected leader, my personal opinion, is to give the person a chance to excel, give necessary support and suggestions, constructive criticism, and against all odds project a positive image of our society and government. If at the end of his tenure, I feel the person has not done enough, we vote in someone who we think can do better. This will not generate politics of hate as we experience presently in Nigeria.

I remember that this administration has not fully constituted its cabinet when some folks started talking about 2015. I knew then, that their was going to be problems.

Finally, In 2015 Nigerians should make their evaluations and vote based on that. Until then, Lets stop heating up the polity and focus on collective development.

Recall some docile legislators today and see if the legislative houses at both state and federal level will not change. The Premier League has announced today that Optima Sports Management International (OSMI) has been awarded a package of live audio visual broadcast rights for Free-to-Air Barclays Premier League matches, for seasons 2013/14 – 2015/16 in the Sub-Saharan Africa region, covering 50 countries.

OSMI also previously acquired the free-to-air broadcast rights to Sub-Saharan Africa for the 2007-2010 and 2010-2013 periods.

A faction of CPC accuses Buhari group of planning to bribe INEC.

A fresh threat to the registration of the All Progressives Congress, APC, emerged on Friday as a faction of the Congress for Progressives Change, CPC, one of the opposition parties in the merger deal, alleged a plot by two members of Tony Momoh-led faction to connive with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to undermine the provisions of the Electoral Act.
Dennis Aghanya, former CPC National Publicity Secretary, who now occupies the same position in the Rufai Hanga-led faction of the party, said in a statement that two former ministers in the Momoh-led executive of the party have concluded plans with two top officials of the electoral body to circumvent the stipulation of the Act concerning the return of the original certificate of the party.
The CPC is currently in merger talks with four other opposition parties, namely Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN; All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP; Democratic Peoples Party, DPP and; a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. They have since applied to INEC for registration.
However, the Hanga faction, which is not in the merger deal, having broken away before it began, claims to be in possession of the original certificate of the party- a situation that may jeopardize the registration of the merging APC.
Section 84 (5) of the Electoral Act says, “Where the request for the proposed merger is approved, the Commission shall withdraw and cancel the certificates of registration of all the political parties opting for the merger and substitute a single certificate of registration in the name of the party resulting from the merger.”
Although, the Momoh-led CPC backed by its former presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, has since sworn to an affidavit in court that the party’s certificate is missing, Mr. Aghanya, whose faction is in court challenging the emergence of the executive of the group, alleged that the two members of the other faction have doled out sums of money to the INEC officials to manipulate the process of the registration of APC.
“It has come to our knowledge that two former ministers in the Tony Momoh camp who are also at the forefront of the APC merger arrangement have concluded plans with one or two top officials of INEC to circumvent the stipulation of the electoral act concerning returning the original CPC certificate before joining the merger,” he said.
“According to our source from INEC, the former ministers have doled out huge sums of money to the affected INEC staffs who in turn promised them that they would ensure that the issue of who is in possession of the original registration certificate of CPC would be manipulated as if INEC is not aware that the Hanga CPC faction is in existence nor that there is any existing court cases pertaining to the national leadership of the CPC.”
The factional spokesman called on the security agencies to watch closely the activities of the INEC officials in order to abort their plan, insisting that the Commission “must be seen to be upright at all times.”
Mr. Aghanya noted that though the formation of APC is aimed at creating a sincere platform to wrest power from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, it (APC) may be contradicting itself by allowing some supposed men of honour to manipulate facts known to the public.
He pointed out that there will be no need to blame PDP if facts are distorted by people who, according to him, see themselves as colossus.
Mr. Aghanya said his faction of CPC has unshakeable faith in INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega, adding, “We sincerely wish to advice him to watch the activities of his lieutenants very closely, especially as the polity is now heating up. We are resolved to follow up the unresolved issues of who are the authentic national leadership of the CPC up to the Supreme Court. If at all the CPC has the need to go into any form of merger or other forms of negotiation, the Sen Hanga led NEC remains the authentic leadership of the party to do so.”
CPC under-represented in merger talks
Mr. Aghanya also expressed dissatisfaction with the representation of the Momoh-led faction in APC, saying the party has not benefitted much as expected.
He said, “From the bargaining position of those who have represented the Tony Momoh group at the merger talk and the subsequent sharing of interim leadership positions, it is clear that the interest of the CPC followership is not properly represented and protected.
“The moment a group is not holding the National Chairman, Secretary or BOT Chairmanship position in such an amalgamated arrangement, it has lost out. While it may get the Presidential ticket, what is the guarantee that other members of the group at various levels can also actualize their political dream? This is politics and it is driven by personal interest.”
The spokesman of the INEC recognised CPC, Rotimi Fashakin, has however dismissed Mr. Aghanya’s claims.
“The most ludicrous thing in this razzmatazz is the way Dennis Aghanya has advertised his ignorance in the public domain. If he and his co-travelers in the perfidious endeavor of illegality clutching to a property of CPC think they will have any modicum of recognition, the law is not looking at the submission of the original copy as sine qua non to registration.
“All the submission and actions of CPC so far as pertaining to the merger are known to the law. The law equally recognizes the Tony Momoh-led Exco as legitimate to make all the transactions on behalf of CPC. So where cometh the empty grandstanding of these impostors? They are best ignored because they constituted themselves as group of losers,” Mr. Fashsakin said.
Also, a representative of CPC in the Merger Committee, Osita Okechukwu, challenged Mr. Aghanya to report the bribery allegation to the police with evidence.
“It is trite law that he who alleges (Mr. Aghanya) has to prove. Methinks he is a hired hand, one of those who want PDP to rule uninterrupted for sixty years whether the party is performing or not,” Mr. Okechukwu said.

Let me be very honest with you, I may not vote for GEJ in 2015 because for now I'm not sure of what will happen. besides, I did not vote for him in 2011 and that did't stop him from winning. I have done a serious consultation and the honest fact is that; if GEJ runs for the presidency in 2015, he will win no matter who runs against him. This may be hard to believe but look, its the hard truth. People can thereafter analyse it scientifically or politically or in whatever way they like. This man's rating will suddenly skyrocket prior to the 2015 election.

The nerve-wracking traffic, which keeps motorists stranded for several hours on the River Niger Bridge at Onitsha, Anambra State, may soon be a thing of the past, as work will soon begin on the second bridge across the Niger River. Speaking to Daily Sun yesterday, the Public Relations Manager of Julius Berger Plc, which got the concession from the Federal Government to construct the bridge, Mr Clement Iloba, said the ground breaking ceremony will be performed next month. Iloba said that the timeline for the completion of the project was four years and that every arrangement has been made to meet the date. He, however, did not disclose the exact date when the groundbreaking event would take place nor the cost of the entire project.

Last week, at the 43rd Julius Berger Annual General Meeting (AGM), its Managing Director, Mr Wolfgang Goetsch, disclosed that the Federal Government had given Julius Berger a letter of intent, which would enable it to do preliminary work such as, soil testing and engineering design. He explained that the bridge would be built under the private public partnership arrangement. “A consortium that included a South Africa firm participated in the bidding for the project. In January 2013, our group became the preferred bidder. We are excited because it will be the first of its kind in Nigeria,” he noted. Investigation by Daily Sun revealed that Julius Berger brought to the agreement table, the sum of N100billion, while the Federal Government is paying 30 percent equity. The 30 percent equity by government, according to our investigation, will be generated through the SURE-P programme. Giving insight into the project, the Special Adviser to the Minister of Works on Media, Mr Tony Ikpasaja, said the total length of the bridge including the accompanying road construction work is 12.4 kilometres.

Said Ikpasaja: “The entire bridge and approach road is 12.4km. The bridge itself is 1.8km, while the approach road is 10.6km.” He said: “The approach road begins from Asaba before the airport, and veers to the right to hit the bridge, while from the bridge, the road takes you into Onitsha-Owerri road and also, to Onitsha-Enugu road.” Meanwhile, the ground-breaking of the rehabilitation contract of the Lagos-Shagamu Road has been slated for July 5, 2013. According to Iloba, Julius Berger will handle the Lagos-Shagamu end of the 125 kilometre-road, while Road Construction Company (RCC) will rehabilitate the Shagamu-Ibadan section of the road. The Lagos-Shagamu end which is about N67 kilometres was contracted to Julius Berger for N17 billion whereas the Shagamu-Ibadan stretch is about 58 kilometres though the contract cost was not disclosed. The scope of work would include provision of three additional lanes in either direction between Lagos and Shagamu interchange, making it five lanes; provision of associated facilities for security and welfare of the user as well as ensuring a free flow of traffic. However, Julius Berger had earlier handled section one of the road from the old toll gate in Lagos to Shagamu in Ogun State while RCC rehabilited the section from Shagamu to Ibadan as part of palliative measure by the Federal Ministry of Works.

The contract was awarded to Messrs Bi-Cortney on a build, operate and transfer arrangement for 25 years but the contract was revoked last year because Bi-Cortney did not keep its own part of the bargain. Federal Government under President Umaru Musa Yar’ Adua on May 26, 2009 awarded the contract to Messrs Bi-Cortney which was revoked by the President Goodluck Jonathan administration. Other projects completed by the giant construction firm include, Escravos Gas to Liquid facility, Delta; Admiralty Alexander Link Bridge, Lagos; Atlas Cove Jetty Rehabilitation, Lagos; Abak-Ikot Ekpene Road, Akwa-Ibom; Discharge Drain Abak, Akwa Ibom. Other ongoing projects are River Terminal Airstrip, Bonny Island; Central Bank of Nigeria Office, Lagos; Rose of Sharon Building, Lagos; Railway Completion Ajaokuta to Warri and Rehabilitation and Expansion of Airport Expressway, Abuja.
