ypzilanti: Congrats to the police for unravelling the perpertrators of that awful act.May God protect our women from such devils. Amen.

To the highlighted, must Abia State government play politics with everything? Whats up with this victim mentality? Rapists and criminals exist everywhere. True, in this case it was not Abia students but why gloating as if the state is free of rapists? Does the fact that it seems the guys are from Port harcourt indict all Rivers State people? Mtcheew.
They had to clear the air; and they are 100% right with that. people making reference to that incident will certainly mention Abia state. which may become a stigma. Any body talking about Boko Haram any where in the world will associate it to Northern Nigeria or Boronu state. Any sensible Government will do the same. Lets be open minded with issues in the country please. I'm not from Abia state anyway.

Secondly, I call on all human right organisations and NGOs in the country to closely monitor this case and ensure that Justice is don AND IS SEEN TO HAVE BEEN DONE. Its not enough condemning it on social media, TV, radio or Print media. or accusing the federal government.

Ok give those who want amnesty the amnesty. take their weapons and operational information and let them go and work. But if this amnesty chorus is for govt to spend oil money and tax payers money paying criminals and murderers. Its totally unacceptable by me; not minding who is saying it. I don't support paying criminals salary (northern or southern) Give amnesty if it will solve the problem but no money to criminals. before we institutionalize what we can't handle as a nation

lots of folks here don't know the meaning of deregulation. believe me, lots of nigerians, no matter how highly place,do not know the real meaning of deregulation. go to the streets, remove "petrol" from the idea and ask them to explain what deregulation is. you'll be shocked.

This is what you get when a political party use Nairaland to make strategic decisions. some of us know that the coalition party members come to nairaland to sample opinions before taking decisions. they have been bombarding us with threads of Possible candidates recently and other topics such as " PDP or APC, will you vote GEJ in 2015 etc. We know what they are doing. but I think the coalition should stop using nairaland to sample opinions and use their brains.

When the Delta state govt did their own street light project. Folks here vilified the governor for using generators to power street lights. but that is not the case with Fashola. This project is quite commendable I love it and I say kudos to the governor.

But common... This is street light.. Most States have done this Kind of project. In Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross river, Enugu, Ondo etc. with out even making noise about it.If we have to judge a government by street lighting, Even Ibori will score very high.

Ones again, kudos. but no need for the jamboree.

I would have loved Seun Osewa to respond to what the poster has stated above. That would be a very good way of addressing issues like this.

I have said it before and I would wan't to say it again. there is going to be massive corruption of the media this year. and Niraland will not be an exception. Some powerful forces will invade the media lets just watch how things play out.

may i also warn; It could be disastrous.

so edo state has reached El dorado since Adams became governor? so Every one in Edo state now have the best of living standard since Oshomole came on board? Good roads every where, Industries, Good education, Pipe born water everywhere in the state? no one is poor in the state?
OR
Is this all POLITICS? Governance is about the people Irrespective of political differences and party affiliations, But in Nigeria and on Niraland, Its all about Political party. every one wants to prove silly points.

Tomorrow Oshomole will organize a rally such as ONE MAN ONE VOTE, Invite all sorts; and bankroll it with states funds and no one will react or cry for wastage. If this is not to score political points, then its plane hypocrisy.
PoliticsJust Felt I Should Share This With Edo People by duality(op): 7:23pm On Feb 24, 2013
In July 2012, the people of Edo State displayed immense courage and overwhelming support for Governor Adams Oshiomhole who they returned to office in spectacular fashion. It was one of the biggest margins in the history of gubernatorial elections in the state.

The bane of Nigeria’s politics remains the ever-widening chasm between those who wield political power and the masses who crave only for an improvement on the status quo. Nothing better exemplifies this than the quagmire in which the state’s chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) is currently mired in.

That the ACN rode to power on a revolutionary infrastructural development mandate is not news. Many observers are also quick to posit that the party garnered so many votes not only because of the governor’s charisma, but also his promise to eradicate ‘godfatherism’ in the state – a situation where one man appointed his cronies to political offices without recourse to the will of the people, ignoring the tenets of true democracy.

In the weeks following the July 2012 gubernatorial election, political observers and the electorate alike began to draw the governor’s attention to a deplorable state of affairs where local government area elections were long overdue. Governor Adams Oshiomhole subsequently made a commitment to conduct the elections in April this year.

However, with just a few weeks to the elections, in a party that prides itself on practising true internal democracy, factions have emerged, each singing discordant tunes. A mob action by irate youth supporters of the party who recently unleashed mayhem at the state’s party secretariat is just one of many manifestations of disharmony in the party.

From Akoko-Edo to Oredo, accusations of imposition of candidates by senior party officials across the various local councils in the state are rife. The alleged case of an illegal congress held at the residence of an aide to the governor to select candidates in Uhunmwonde local government area immediately comes to mind. Such actions are distasteful and smack of a betrayal of the “one man, one vote” mantra upon which the party won popular acclaim in the state.

A simple process of selection where the party faithful choose those to fly the party’s flag and represent their interests in the April elections has been hijacked by the party’s leadership – which has clearly strained so far away from the party’s base, that it faces an uphill battle to regain the confidence of the party faithful and the Edo people in order ensure victory at the polls come April.

As Edo people, myself included, continue to applaud the giant strides of Governor Oshiomhole’s administration, he must put a lid on this discord in the party, lest party faithful be tempted to think the new mantra is: “One man, several selections.” I sincerely hope not.

PoliticsRe: Why the Double Standard to judge Between Gej And Buhari? by duality(m): 5:38pm On Feb 24, 2013
take dat: You cannot compare a sitting president who is expected to display a high level of moral integrity to an ordinary citizen whose failings can easily be ignored. The position of a president entails him to display a certain amount of fairness and consistency, it means that he does not change his views and perception due to capricious reasons. How do we appraise a sitting president who cannot be taking at his word? Buhari is an ordinary citizen, him changing his mind can be overlooked, but for a sitting president to be fickle and also displaying chameleon-like trait in his personality is a No-No!
judging from what you said , its risky entrusting leadership to Buhari

and why is tunubu not on the list? Tunubu's absence makes the whole thing a joke that it is.

Finally, remove NTA from the list. NTA is one media outfit that gives balanced reportage; Except you have a mind programmed against them. Please if another party wins and is in power, They will still make use of NTA. you can never find discussions against APC, PDP, CPC, ACN or any other party being transmitted on NTA. never. tune in to other private stations and see what is going on. Any honest Nigerian knows NTA gives balanced reporting.

Although as an agency of government it is expected that they transmit the activities of government hence you have programs like " 7 Point Agenda"," the transformation agenda".

even if another party comes to power tomorrow, NTA will do the same. I just don't like the way people see NTA.

Bad belle people. non Bayelsans are telling Bayelesans that thy don't deserve flyovers in their state. whereas some sycophants celebrated a bridge in Ogun state. the thread was almost up to ten pages of praise singing and political party superiority. Dickson wants to develop the state and some folks are condemning the idea claiming that Bayelsa don't need or deserve such project. some folks are just plain silly or maybe it is just ITK. I'm not from bayelsa but i just don't condemn things coz I'm not connected to it. Such attitude is witchcraft.

all na effects of political power. when Ibori was in power we never heard things like this. it was the others who felt marginalized, subdued and impoverished. Not long after Ibori left power, we now hear of the perceived " Backness " of the Urhobos. we knew how influential UPU and UPF was during the days of Onanefe. their exploits were obvious.

Any other person would definitely see all these wrapped in Politics.
