Correct !! Ecitibiz.interior .gov.ng is the Federal government website of licensed places of worship in Nigeria.You will be surprised to know that many places of worship are issuing fake certificates because they are not licensed to contract statutory martiages

isnt this what the govt is supposed yo be doing to regulate the abnormailites? So many churches are licensed to operate as NGOs but need additional license to conduct statutory weddings, some think because headquarters is licensed branches are automatically licensed ,some obtain certificates from local govts councils which makes the certificate null and void .

This and many more is what i expect the federal govt to be looking into but they are more concerned about power tussle and massaging their ego at the expense of the masses ,what a country!

that is not the question i asked you but since you want to go there, how many people in your village have marriage certificates? Mr surveyor since you obviously have the statistics of the "outliers" and "majority" lets start with data you have collated from your village.

This paper document cannot be presented at the embassy.It is not e wedding certificate..It is just a oaper notifying the government that you live as husband and wife.Additionally you cannot present it to file a divorce in the court. Remember you did traditional wedding.Such a wedding can be dissolved at a magistrate or customary court wit your document received at the local government. If you did statutory marriage it can only be dissolved at the High Court only and your wedding certificate must be shown to court to accept that a marriage exists between you and your wife..As for the jurisdiction of the Record Document you get from the local government it can be shown anywhere in the country but not as a wedding certificate.

A paper from a local govt ,not a legal marriage document ,not a wedding certificate ,so why is it even there to begin with? Why confuse people , why does everything about Nigeria have to be disorganised and not straight forward? Why will you give a paper of notification that will take the same stress as getting a wedding certificate to people when you know it is worthless ?

If you ask me i think this is rather unfair to couples who probably are not even aware of this and think what they have in their possession is a marriage certificate,which i am sure with the "Nigerian factor" many couples would have been made to believe they were taking home wedding certificates.

who told you majority are the ones doing weddings? Have you conducted a survey to know how many people do weddings as against those who just do traditional or dont even do at all?

A marriage can be put on record in the local government just as a birth or death certificate is out on record there.The constitution gives the local governments the right to do this ..It is just for record purpose.This is NOT a statutory marriage.according to marriage act. You will not be given a wedding certificate from the federal government. You will just be given a paper DOCUMENT like birth certificate indication that both of you live together as husband and wife....

Now why will i go through that stress to get a paper that i cannot present as proof of marriage should i want to travel out when i can get the real deal? Does that not amount to duplication and confusion?

Also which jurisdiction does that paper from the local govt cover,lets say a couple moves from that local govt to another state entirely and wants a divorce ,will the local govt recognize the paper from another local govt from the other state?

and you dont know of people that have children outside wedlock? You don't know of people that have lived together had kids without even traditional marriage? You don't know of single parents? You don't know of people who only do traditional weddings?

. I agree with you.I have friends like you too especially when it appears some religious centers use it to fleece people of their resources. However some don't do that... This development is caused by the local governments.In the past the federal government delegated local governments to conduct marriage .Surprisingly local governments started producing Unified certificates different from that of the federal governments... Is this not an aberration? That is why the federal government revoked the right given to them as enshrined in the constitution . The local governments have appealed the judgement of the two lower courts in the Supreme court.Will the SC not sustain what is the constitution? It will...For now anybody who does not want to go to registries because of distance or registered places of worship can do traditional marriage. and later put it on record in the nearby local government.....

You started your response well but you ended it on a disappointing note...Learn how to ask questions before you reach conclusion as an informed person.Nobody knows everything. On marriage matter The federal government has federal marriage registries in the country like the one in Ikoyi Lagos.However thousands of places of worship have been licensed too for statutory marriage.The places of worship issue same certificate from the federal government..Any interested worship center should apply to the federal ministry of Interior too. Nigerians should follow the law not Short Cut every day.If statutory marriage is difficult traditional marriage is also tenable under the Nigerian constitution.This must have clarified your hasty conclusion if you care to know .

And you think everyone is religious? There are people like me who prefer to skip the shenanigans of church weddings and go to registry.

Let me even ask you,whose fault is it that 98% of the country is improverished while 2% live a standard life , or na me wan build railway and power plant? Or because the country is improverished people should not move on with their lives?this is a registry where adults are getting married not child brides or something ,i dont see the how your comment relates to the issue on ground here.

Just one center in states,this is just not fair to the masses in terms of convenience.

Imagine having to travel three hours to get to registry within your state lets not even talk of states where you don't have federal marriage registry at all
