buygala: Personally I feel expensive inverters are overrated
Once one is spending above 60k for an inverter set-up, the person is much much better off with a good and original generator
These deep-cycle batteries speedily lose capacity...some within months...and the set-up itself hardly goes a full year without having to fix or replace something
And Nigerian Inverter technicians are not helping matters either....i will just leave this one at this
At least with generators, as long as one has an original one, and maintains it well, there are hardly any problems....and there are very many fuel economical and soundproof generators in the market presently
I have been using a ups inverter and an inec 27ah li-ion battery to power my tv, Bluetooth speaker and phone chargers for almost 3 years without any significant reduction in capacity of the battery...and haven't replaced anything in the ups or the battery's charger .. ..but within just one year I went through 2 brand new 200ah deep cycle batteries and series of problems with a larger inverter set-up.
Your case may be different sha...but this is my honest opinion You are definitely in the wrong thread. Some of us have been on Solar only with huge setup for over 4 years and systems are still performing. Break out of generator palava and take time to go through the preeminent thread on solar in Nigeria and experience peace With the quacks you used your system will surely fail https://www.nairaland.com/390522/solar-energy-complement-fta |

gbadexy: wish you the same sir. There are slight reduction in price due to the price of raw materials. The floor paint is N20000 and the sealant is N25000 per drum respectively. The floor paint covers 50 sqm per drum for 2 full coats and the sealant covers 70 sqm for 3 full coats. The sealant is made to be very light to accommodate multiple thin coat for better penetration and bonding. Are these prices still current? Kindly advise |

bigrovar: Yiu won't like my response but I will say non the less. If you do not know the problem with this setup.. Then you have no business installing solar for a client. Nigeria is already filled to the brim with quarks posing as solar installers. It ends up hurting and doing damage to solar adoptation. All hope is not lost sha. Set back and learn the trade.. Its not even that hard.. That you can install solar panel on a roof or you are a good electrician don't make you an installer. If this question came from a Do IT Yourselfer then I would understand but not for someone holding himself out as an installer and having a client. The truth is very bitter the poor abused client will now say solar does not work and swear off re and become the chief campaigner against re. Op I'd definitely not qualified to be an installer. |

Namzy: I am not planning to use solar now just inverter and tubular batteries and from your submission is better to stick to the icellpower 2kva inverter and then buy a charge controller when i upgrade to solar rather than use the axpert 2kva hybrid inverter which is more expensive and still buy a charge controller when i want to upgrade Please confirm if your icellpower 2kva inverter is not an Axpert inverter branded as icellpower. Alot of companies brand Axpert with their own names but in reality it is still an Axpert. Take a picture of the inverter our learned gurus will be able to tell you if it is a branded Axpert. |

pranil: Will the timer cutoff the heater? I would say 2 hours before bath time and off immediately after the last bath time. It is very difficult to predict the water heater timings as they change based on ambient temp , User and stored water temp ( underground is cool. overhead tanks normally reach 30 + during bright sunny days) yes the timer will cutoff the heater but 2 hours before bath time would be sound 4 am in the morning the draw may be lethal to my batteries |

Namzy: Yes tubular batteries why can't the inverter charge it from mains and solar is it not hybrid again? You will need a separate cc. In my experience tubular batteries need to be equalized at 64 volts and unfortunately the Axpert hybrid won't be able to reach that voltage. The cc matrix of the Axpert seems overwhelmed when you are using flooded batteries. My advise is get a separate cc or your batteries will fail within 6 to 10 months if solely using the hybrid inverter. |

I am still researching before I make my decision and I recently changed my mind from icell to ipowerplus 2kva and I don't intend buying a charge controller. Pls do ans this question What sort of batteries do you intend to use? If flooded you will need a separate cc to enable you properly charge and equalise the batteries. |

Quite unfortunate and your review had put a real dampner on setting up a solar water heater as I had looked at Protek and other brands such as Simba,NaturePal etc but that all seem to be of similar quality and reputation and I cannot shout Well the waiting game still continues until a qualitative and affordable solar water heater comes into the market while I will for now increase my solar panels for use of an electric heater. |

NiyiOmoIyunade: Actually, it is rare that I see a neutral foreign review where the Outback is praised - words like prototype, bug, early concept, experimental feature, flaky e.t.c are what I generally see.
The Midnite however has generally pretty good reviews and plenty of bells and whistles vs. any other. And they also work hard at improving their product constantly so they definitely win at innovation.
We can look at the core design and internals - MorningStar is solid state, battery and PV terminals are very well spaced, can accomodate 35mm cables and even thicker pretty easily vs. the puny/tiny terminals and dangerously closely clustered positive and negative terminals on other brands. MorningStar is however slow to improve or add new features and all their add on equipment are pretty pricey - again a smart player can get by very well indeed with just the CC without a display meter plus a PC or RaspBerry device.
Biko one of us must stop else this matter will drag endlessly - *somebody mentioned heatsinks as a flaw and to that I respond that the heat dissipation ability of the MorningStar far outweights any Fangpusun or similar cheap clone CC one may come across - you would only need external fan cooling if you locked it up in an enclosed space - my indoor mounted MorningStar CC heatsink temp rarely goes beyond 45°C with no additional cooling and the decision to attach a fan is just preference because I have excess DC power and just wanted to pamper the CCs after i moved them indoors (all windows usually closed where they are kept)*
I have used the Fangpusuns and was pleasantly surprised at their performance, their ruggedness and longevity remain to be seen.r Please let us just stop this thread and raise a new topic but if we must then let us settle the matter via objective testing - my offer to supply panels, loads and 1 CC for the test is valid until early next week Worlds Number 1 cc that still needs an external fan to function optimally. Kukuma just hand it outside to get fresh cooling air That says it all One Love |

NiyiOmoIyunade: For the record so that whoever wants to embrace MorningStar is not misled
The CC which blew up had been in use since 2009/2010 based on my check of it's data logs but fraudulently repackaged and sold as brand new to me in 2016. Who knows what it had passed through before it got to me?
I have probably had more than 20 MorningStars pass through my hands between then and now and none has yet failed or had any issues whatsoever - the one which intermittently logs a fault (no impact at all on functionality) I have updated firmware, tweaked and experimented on ceaselessly - once tried to force update my own reverse engineered firmware on it without success, connected a 4.5kw array to it and throttled the battery side output during Bulk charge to 35amps at 59.2v. It is the CC I try out all my ideas on and still running like a champ (on the random occasions it logs the 'DiP Switch Changed Fault', recovers back to full output within 3 seconds, daily produces 10kwh to 15kwh from a 3.6kw PV array).
The one certain vulnerability of the MorningStar is disconnecting CC from battery while PV array is still connected and the PV array is putting out power higher than the CC's clamp limits. I do believe they released a software update to disconnect PV internally to address this flaw but have not yet found the courage to test its effectiveness in real life.
You said it all the best CC is the one that meets your power needs within your budget. I love and trust MorningStar. I will gladly try any other CC experimentally just to see how it works and also because standards change and old champions are overthrown all the time.
For any who will take up the challenge, I have fallow 3pcs 330w Canadian Solar Panels, 1 Spare MorningStar CC and 2 600watt constant DC loads (immersion heaters). Just bring along your own favorite CC and let us perform a benchmark test Niyi nice one. No one is here to mislead anyone but they way some comments were used would think that Outback was made in Aba when I as a personal user have not experienced such. I really would not have commented but I was contacted offline by someone asking about my Outback setup because of the terms "useless" "crappy" when that is not the true situation of things. If I was to go for a CC again I would still go for the Outback and 2nd choice would be a cLASSIC but does that mean the Morning Star is bad cc? Certainly not,i have want floats my boat another user has his. If they both provide the needed satisfaction so what gives? I have used an Axpert Inverter which gave me issues but will i bad talk it just for talking sake? No as it still has it good points and is my backup inverter in case the Outback "unexpectedly blows up" (Abeg no vex no be me use am) Anyway I am a novice and a nobody compared to the knowledgeable gurus such as you and the others but can only talk on my own experience. Thanks and keep up the good work. May we be truly free from the clutches of epileptic power supply in Nigeria. |

Younger cousin to Thor's "Mjolnir" hammer. which I is better Apple,Samsung,Xiaomi,Huawei? or BMW, Honda,Toyota,Mercedes Benz? No one should get it twisted just as there is no best car or phone same with the top brand cc's or inverters. Everyone's wants and needs are different while some will swear with a BMW some will also swear with a Honda. Everybody's experience is what they have experienced. Do your own research and chose what works for you irrespective of what anyone says. Apple vs. Samsung and Honda vs. Toyota Everyone has its fans and detractors same in renewable energy. Remember that most of all the american premium brands are interlinked, connected and related That been said I stand on my Outback Flexmax 80 cc and Outback 3038 inverter In use for 4 years now and not 1 issue of blowing up, using external fan to cool down, battery before cc blow up,software issue as the Star has been witnessing on this thread For me Outback is the best based on my own experience just as you cannot change my mind I also cannot change your mind. So let us just agree to disagree as we all enjoy the world of Free renewable energy.
