Moderator, please this piece has some new development about Facebook and we need to educate ourselves. Thank u. |
Social media are computer-mediated technologies that facilitate the creation and sharing of information, ideas, career interests and and other forms of expression through virtual communities and network ( wikipedia 2018). This means, a social media is an online communication channels dedicated to interaction. The social media is Nigeria's main source of information and has become so popular as it is virtually synonymous with the internet. Some of the most popular social media websites are Baidu Teiba, Facebook(Facebook messenger), Gab, Google+, MySpace, Instagram, Linkedln, Pinterest, Tumbir, Twitter, Viber, VK, Wechat, Weibo, WhatsApp, Wikia, Snapchat, YouTube and so on. The most popular of the social media is Facebook, a brain child of Mark Zuckerberg with over two billion active users worldwide. As internet use in Nigeria has increased in the last couple of years, so has the use and popularity of Facebook platform. Facebook remains a premium choice for Nigerians as 22 million subscribers in Nigeria visit the platform every month. The Facebook Public Policy Director, Ebele Okobi, during the launch of its Nigerian initiative to reinforce its commitment and investment made it clear that 87% of small and medium enterprises in Nigeria also utilises Facebook for digital skills and more. According to her, Facebook mission was to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. And this demonstrates that the power of digital skills to aid economic growth and development has never been more important. Everyone needs to collaborate to actualise a closer community. No wonder, world leaders decided to take advantage of this as Donald Trump and Narendra Modi, India prime minister are the most engaged world leaders on Facebook. When Facebook came to Nigeria, many hope it would helped to usher in a new period of free speech by amplifying voices that countered the narrative of the government-friendly traditional press. Facebook has a way of getting out your message that would be foolish to ignore even when this generation does not have enough passion to watching television and to buy newspaper. The government is using this platform to promote its message while jailing or detaining its critics and doing its best to exploit Facebook own rules to shot down criticism through a direct relationship with the Facebook staff. This platform has styled itself as a neutral platform for information but its role in being a purveyor of propaganda and fake news as well as its relationship with the government shows how easily that neutrality can be exploited by autocrats. For instance, governments have click farms where users buy likes and this is prohibited on the Facebook terms. This is a mechanism that has created a chilling effect that critics of the government is only getting worse. People want a big room for themselves to speak but if you let things go freely, it will result to anarchy. Freedom has limits hence the need for the rule of law. Facebook rules are not democratic enough. Fake names violate Facebook terms of service, but in practice the rule is not enforced consistently in part because the company relies on people proactively bringing such incident to its attention. Clare wareing, a spokesperson for Facebook opines that the company removes credible threats, hate speech, and impersonation profiles when they are made aware. This means when a subscriber finds a post objectionable, they click a link on the post to report it. Then a Facebook judge decides whether it violates the platform rules and should be taken down. In practice, its a chunky process that involves no direct communication or chance or appeal, and the decision made by Facebook can be mysterious and arbitrary. In view of this, there is a sweeping reform to this platform that would prioritise personal post that friends share, or react to and sideline content by official pages. This move will decrease the organic reach of official pages by 50% to 80%. This decision sparked an outcry in Cambodia, Bolivia, Serbia, Guatemala, and Sri Lanka. Phil Robertson of Human Right Watch accused Facebook of using developing countries as guinea pigs in an experiment. The siloing off of content as an experiment is seen as monetising the war for users attention. This piece advises Facebook to put up stronger team made up of technical people as well as those who understand politics, governments policies and public opinion where successes are replicated and failures are interrogated. Media executives have countered these changes to the News feed that it amplifies fake news by making it harder to find information from independent, trust worthy news sources. Facebook now appears to be running away from its role as a news source amid lingering questions about its handling of rumours and fake news that have affected the election around the world. It is obvious Facebook will not be playing the role in next year national election that it did in 2015. EIMOGA. C, AUDU. eimoga24@gmail |
Moderator, please kindly move this to the front page as this Facebook sweeping change will soon hit the Nigerians. |

sarrki:It seems you don't understand English. Over the years, is it only Jonathan that has ruled over the years? |
That is what brought them to power and is increasingly failing them. It has become a common knowledge that their lofty and lousy idea about governance is not sustainable. So many fake news from this group as if we are in ONYONYO market. Allowing the gullible citizens to pick and read fake stories at every count. Propaganda does no government any good but life touching policy does. |
U will get your Money but the bank needs to also conduct an investigation on the beneficiary of the account where the money is transferred to. Be patient, however long it takes you will get it as security officials Will eventually be on the trail of the perpetrators of this act. |
It is a general issue here especially people whose account number start with zero. My friends and i here in plateau noticed the same thing. |
It is only a fool that will support this endless propaganda by APC. Few days ago the presidency denied that Buhari was sick. Now is being confirmed . They should know that he is the father of the nation and the truth should be told about his health status so that parallel prayers could be organise. I don't care where the pendulum swings, all what i care for is good life. May God show us mercy. |
More pictures please especially interior |
Still available? |
duscollins:Yet to hear from you. |
700 nko? |
The local government is still not coming up. Wat do i do ? |
Is it your first interview and Wat position did you applied for? |
AfroKnight:Good guys often finish last. You are right, a professor of psychology at Havard university came up with such findings in a related research last week. This lady does not to be your wife, please don't regret, move on and move on quickly. |
Alphaoscar:OP! |
STFUand4kMeHARD:Bro, u wan finish this man? |
fiizznation:Who cares if this is your first post? The stakeholders are advocating dialogue and u are here talking trash. Please get a life! |
Pls don't settle for any negotiation. This is the best time for you to deeply embrace God and persist with your demand. This man is not bigger than u. If you truly u are poor then justice await you. |
lofty900:Then you are a coward. You must stand against injustice. An injustice somewhere is an injustice everywhere. You must not take to the streets. There are other forms of protest. As for the mother, I pray that every moment brings u a renewed courage to bear this odd moment. |
theV0ice:It is not the president that decides who becomes the Senate president. It was a simple majority among the senators that brought Saraki. The president and the party can only lobby the senators to tow the party line. |
Peritus:God bless you. U are a teacher of the gospel indeed. |
APC will end up producing a better PDP. Just like the Democratic and republican in USA. The problem is, PDP has come to stay but will APC remain as one considering the large number of moles in it. Alternatively, the youth can form its own party to check the excesses of the oligarchs that are holding the structures of APC and PDP tight. |
GudluckIBB:U don't have to insult another person before u make a point. Clarity is the key ! |
If election is held in Rivers state for a million times PDP will still win. The truth is APC is not their party. It doesn't entice them. One of them told me they pray that the electoral tribunal cancels the election once again so that they can vote for PDP again and again. U need to be here to know what am talking about. APC is desperate and PDP is marching them intrigues for intrigues, audacity for audacity. The result speaks for what am trying to explain. |
A win is a win and its more pleasant when you respect your opponent. Mark has shown maturity from the outset while Daniel was busy insulting elders and importing thugs and cultists to the zone in a desperate bid to win this election. The vote Daniel got is as a result of the large thugs he hired. Next time he should be more courteous in his campaign approach. I like him as a youth but he has little control over his emotions. By 2019 he must have been much more mature for this role. I wish everyone heaven at last! |
It was a ploy, Audu Ogbeh will never vote for Daniel Onjeh because Daniel wrote a petition against Audu not to be confirmed as a minister. Audu subtly told key idoma persons that Daniel shows no respect for elders and he will have no interest in the election because this is an occasion for homeland and the defence is now. The TiV extraction in Benue has been using Daniel against the idoma sovereignty. |
Am enjoying Jos weather now. Not hot nor cold. The cold is only in the night. |
Pls don't relent in engaging the necessary stakeholders in this fight. EFCC , CPC and telecommunications unions. Facebook and other social platforms will help you to make them realize their inefficiency. This change must blow through Airtel and their affiliated fraudsters. Please forward your evidence to conventional media outfit as well. |
Etisalat is very fast and considerate wen it comes to browsing but We should give this company benefit of doubt. |
Pls can you kindly show us the interior?? Am interested |
