Seun:
540MW extra is nothing.
i disagree moreover it is just a conservative estimate as our govt has far more resources than lafarge. the govt has spent over $12billion and yet has nothing to show for it while a company spent 23 billion and has 90mw.

he N23 billion plant, which consists of six units of 15 Megawatts power plant will generate a total of 90 megawatts both to fire Lafarge’s Lakatabu cement plant and to support Nigeria’s quest for power sufficiency.

Managing Director of Lafarge Cement WAPCO, Mr. Samy Abdelkader, who spoke during the commissioning ceremony in Ewekoro chaired by governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, stressed that the 90 megawatt power plant, which will be fired with gas and liquid fuel, will efficiently supply the factory’s power need and boost power supply in the country.

He said, “The N23 billion power plant, which consists of six 15 megawatts units will be the first operating dual firing plant in Nigeria. It has a dual-firing system, which can make it to use both gas and liquid fuel. The importance of the power plant to stable cement production cannot be overestimated in our commitment to ensure availability and affordable cement for Nigerians especially considering the various power related challenges our company has encountered in past”.

According to him, the idea of its new plant was conceived in 2008, while construction started with the foundation laying ceremony February 2009.
imagine if our dear country had been building 90MW plants every 2 years for the past 12 years we would have had 540MW extra

blacksta:
Useless Engineers - They cant even build a simple wind mill to power a kettle.  I have always wondered what they teach them at uni.

Building a wind mill  to power stuff should be one of simplest things for an engineering graduate

Go to you tube - you will find young men without engineering degrees in the western world building home made wind mills connected to battery powering shi t  .

The only thing u will find Nigerian students doing, is cramming or obtaining one degree to another ( thus remaining forever broke , no commercial experience ) - what a joke
A lot of people who dropped out of engineering in school or who couldn't get admission to study engineering are usually not happy when they see engineers. sorry not our fault.
Education › Re: Are Nigerian Graduates Useless, Especially Engineers ? by dustydee: 4:51pm On Jul 05, 2011
Our refineries are not working but the ones discovered in the creeks are working. The old PH refinery is not working because of a cooling tower so the engineers should contribute money and buy a cooling tower for the refinery?

Politics › Re: The Article That Got El Rufai Into Trouble by dustydee: 10:49am On Jul 04, 2011
Myself2:
El rufai is a corrupt used menses pad punk that lacks the locus standi to advise the president. He and those of his extremist ilk, such as Buhari and Babangida, are the ones fanning the embers and indeed giving covert support to the almajiris that butchered those corpers after the April elections as well as the Boko haramites. They don't wish our democracy well having shown the ethnic content of their character. They can't convince Nigerians that they mean well for the president and his government . These champions of division can't mean well for a new Nigeria based on equality of geo-political zones and a transformation of the nation. People like Olisa Agbakoba who have prepared and are about to sponsor private bills in the national assembly are the ones that mean well for the country. This is the way for one to make brilliant contributions towards a new Nigeria and not el rufai's tongue-in-cheek and inciting rubbish. Bad losers become hostile to governments when they notice they're no longer relevant in the scheme of things. A man who used his office to disposes citizens of their properties to the gain his family, lovers and friends lacks credibility and is no position to advise anybody on accountability

He that comes to equity, must of needs, come with clean hands

El rufai's hands are soiled
Oh so it is the petroleum minister that has corruption allegations levelled against her that has the locus standi to advise mr president nde?
Politics › Re: No Engineer In Gej Cabinet, Yet Nigeria Want Technological Development. by dustydee: 10:49am On Jul 04, 2011
So when are you considered an engineer in NIGERIA? When:

1. You have only a BSc
2. You have an MS
3. You have a PhD?

Nnaji has
Bsc in physics
MSc in industrial engineering and operations research
PhD in industrial engineering and operations research
http://www.chronicle.pitt.edu/media/pcc030224/bart_nnaji.html

Does any of these degrees (or at least 2 of them) make him an engineer or not, by Nigerian standard?
none of these makes you an engineer. To be called an engineer, you must be registered with the appropriate engineering body in Nigeria.

But there's something we can do
1. Do not give bribe, the giver and taker are one and the same( for those of you here that are accusing them of demanding bribe and paid the bribe, you are as corrupt as them take it or leave it)
2. Is there any channel that we can relay this information to the comptroller of immigration even though I know she is aware bu we on nairaland can draft an open letter to here and post it on SR and pointblank news. (Justwise can you please draft an open letter to the comptroller?)
3.Lets know all the requirements at the airport, like the limit of food, movies and other things that one is allowed to carry without paying duty or being harassed.

*can this be moved to the travel section, please?
