This is unacceptable for an out of court settlement.

But 50 Billion is way way too small to use to settle this case. It is a goodwill payment before commencement of negotiations. |

Black Rhino, an indigenous portfolio company of Blackstone Energy Partners, and Dangote Group of Companies, are to jointly invest up to $10 billion in energy infrastructure projects in Kano State and in East South Nigeria.
The projects are with particular emphasis on renewable energy, power transmission and building of pipelines.
Muhammadu Sanusi II, emir of Kano, who is the chairman of Black Rhino Group, disclosed that his group and Dangote Industries would contribute $5 billion each for the construction of a coal power plant and a solar energy project in Kano, as well as gas pipeline project from Akwa Ibom to be constructed to South West, where Dangote Industries were concentrated.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Emir said the consortium decided to embark on the power projects in Kano because of the power crisis in the state.
He further disclosed that the coal project and the solar energy project would produce about 1,000mw and 100mw, respectively.
Emir Sanusi expressed optimism that the projects would, to a large extent, improve electricity power generation in the state for both the consumption of residents and for the revival of the ailing industries in the state.
In his remarks at the occasion, Aliko Dangote, chairman, Dangote Group, expressed optimism on the viability of the projects, assuring that it would improve power generation in the state and resuscitate industries to generate employment opportunities for the teeming youth and make the economy vibrant.
Dangote said the gas project from the South East to Western Nigeria would extend to Ghana, and would go a long way in addressing the energy needs of industries within the region, particularly those under the Dangote Group.
On his part, the state governor expressed hope that “the project would bail Kano State out of its prevailing economic depression and uplift the state to another level of economic prosperity and development.
“Now that the national economy is dwindling, we have no better way to revive it than to invest in agriculture and resuscitate our industries.”
He promised that the state government would provide land, among other things, to enable the project materialise.
Stressing that power is very critical to the survival of industries in the state, he announced that the state was also making modest effort to provide electricity through the ongoing multi-billion naira Independent Power projects at Tiga and Challawa, which would generate 35mw of electricity. http://businessdayonline.com/2016/03/black-rhino-dangote-conclude-plans-to-invest-10bn-in-kano-south-east-ipp-projects/

Business › Alhaji Putin’s Republic by dustydee(op): 9:17pm On Mar 03, 2016 |
For a couple of years now, I have been the Chairman and sole member of the Alhaji Putin Haters Club (APHC). I am now tired. When you are unable to beat them, joining them is not such a disgraceful option. Today, Alhaji released 2015 (January to December) results for Dangote Cement and they were glorious. Hating this guy is a waste of time — it is his country and you all are merely living in it. A summary of the results can be found at Nairametrics Financial highlights Revenue up 25.6% to ₦491.7B as new plants perform strongly across Africa EBITDA up 17.5% to ₦262.4B at 53.4% margin All plants profitable across Africa Earnings per share up 15.2% to ₦10.86 Dividend up 33.3% to ₦8.0 per share at 73.7% payout ratio Strong cash generation funds dividend and capex, net debt falls to ₦204.2B (0.78x EBITDA) But that is not really the interesting part. When you have a look at how they have been doing over the last 6 years, it tells a much better story. A friend has pulled out the revenues, profit before tax and actual tax paid. I made them into the chart below. To summarise — Dangote Cement clocked N1.86trillion in revenues over 6 years of which, N1trillion was profits. The company paid N12billion of that in taxes. That is, the effective tax rate (based on actual tax paid) of the company over those 6 years was 1%. Even if you are turning water into wine, it is doubtful that you will be able to make this kind of profit. How is he able to get away with paying practically nothing in taxes? Alhaji has turned the use of ‘pioneer status’ into an art form. In the latest results, the company managed to get pioneer status again by extending the Ibese Plant. It seems that every time he builds something, he gets pioneer status for it. A couple of years ago, I did a comparison between Dangote Cement and other cement manufacturers around the world based on profitability. Alhaji is not their mate. At all. (See the spreadsheet here). There isn't much to add to this. These figures are not hidden. They are all publicly available as published by the company. Perhaps the best place to hide something is in plain sight. What is clear is that Nigerians are paying more than double international prices for cement while Alhaji makes sweet profits and pays no taxes. He also owns 92% of the company meaning that the vast majority of the dividends paid flow to him. Meanwhile, according to the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) document, the Federal Government expects to collect N1.53trillion in company taxes this year. If Alhaji is paying the equivalent of coins, it is safe to say that even a miracle cannot help FIRS hit that figure. To add insult to injury, Alhaji also gets the choice meat from the fx pot at N199 to $1. Even his erstwhile buddy, Abdulsamad Rabiu came out publicly to complain about his preferential access to forex in this time of scarcity: It is rather ironic that a similar competitor in the same industry, who incidentally is the market leader, is allocated huge amount of Nigeria’s hard earned and scarce FX from the official market for its operation in Congo. I do not know if there is an official policy to that effect but I was baffled, as were numerous Nigerians, to learn through a publication of FX allocation returns by First Bank of Nigeria in Thisday Newspaper of Tuesday, February 16, 2016 (page 11) of that allocation whilst other operators in the industry have received far less or nothing at all during the same period for verifiable and viable investments within Nigeria. It begs the question, “were other plants by that operator across Africa built with Nigeria’s money?” how has that impacted the Country’s economy in return? If this is true, then it needs to be checked as we cannot have a situation where Nigerian industries are been shut down, workers are losing their jobs daily and resources badly needed to develop our economy are being taken out of the county to grow other economies to the detriment of ours. If this transactions was done through a “form A” like the publication suggested, then it is just money that has gone out of the country which can be rerouted into the country for other purposes. It bears repeating — Nigeria is subsidising his expansion across Africa while he enjoys absurd profits in a protected market without paying taxes. In January, the Central Bank Governor, the biddable Godwin Emefiele, went to tuale at the site of the Dangote Refinery in Lagos. After assuring him of access to subsidised forex, he then delivered the money quote: our support will encourage more Nigerians to begin to think like the Dangote Group source: https://medium.com/@doubleeph/alhaji-putin-s-republic-a07381caec18#.e2d7ae1ar

1. First off, I am equivocally in agreement with you. If you look up my post, I had laid a premise that Yinusa is culpable 2. I am fully aware of the laws with respect to minors and I know Yinusa will probably be jailed for a minimum of about 6months 3. My focus in point number 4 is to raise the issue of Ese's part and the need to look at how Ese needs to be helped. Ese may have double identity. She might have been sexually active years before this case...... The first line of point number 4 “Truth is there is no evidence yet, that Ese was abducted” is wrong. The fact that an Adult (18 year old man) eloped or went away with a 14 year old girl without her parents’ consent is tantamount to abduction. I do not know any other name that can be given to that crime. It would have been different if he was 17. |

mapet: 4. Truth is there is no evidence yet, that Ese was abducted. If her current actions and reactions are anything to go by, It would even seem she left on her own volition. My take is that Ese herself should take her portion of the blame and repremand. Let's not try to make this a case of an innocent girl. In today's world where our kids are exposed beyond their ages, a 14year old girl is most likely well aware of her actions, even if she can't picture the consequences. The fact that she is a minor makes it a case of kidnapping. She may have followed him on her own but it behoves on him not to allow her to follow him. A similar case is that of Adam Johnson who was alleged to have performed a sexual act on a minor (16 year old). She consented to the act but he is not being prosecuted for having sex with a CHILD. It would have been different if the alleged abductor was a minor too. But as an adult, he is culpable and should have known better. Heck how do you marry a minor without her parents consent? |

4reala: Worse still it is an unfolding drama at the end of which Emir Sanusi Lamido may well have a case to answer. The truth is that that little girl would have been raped over and over again and she may well have Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) or some other strange sexual disease by now. She may also be pregnant.
Instead of sympathizing with her and considering the fact that she may never be the same again in view of the physical and mental torture and trauma that she has been subjected to over the last few months, some misguided souls and shameless commentators have the temerity to come to social media and say that she was old enough to “get it” whilst others say that she ”loved it” and ”wanted it”.
I am utterly disgusted and appalled by these sentiments. Where is the humanity of those that speak and think like this? Where is their compassion and where is their soul?
May God judge them and may their own infant daughters be abducted, forcefully Islamised, raped, enslaved and kept against their will as a sex slave in an Emir’s palace in the same way that Ese was.
Meanwhile I just watched an AIT video in which Ese’s mother claimed that her daughters abductors said that it was the Emir of Kano himself that ordered her daughters abduction and that she was kept in his palace for over one year for his pleasure. What is this guy smoking? Does he know what causes VVF? Has she been in Kano for up to a year? |

kcmichael: The National Judicial Council (NJC) is expected to release the name of two new justices of the Supreme Court tomorrow. Following the retirement of Justice Afolabi Fabiyi and Justice Muntaka Coomassie, four justices of the appeal court have been interview to replace them. The NJC hold its first quarterly plenary for this year on Wednesday and Thursday. It was learnt on Monday that a major item on the NJC’s plenary would be consideration of the outcome of the interview conducted to fill two vacancies at the apex court bench. According to reliable sources in the judiciary, four candidates, who are currently Justices of the Court of Appeal in various divisions, have already been interviewed for the available two slots. It was learnt that Justices Ejembi Eko and Monica Dongban-Mensen were interviewed to choose a replacement for Justice John Fabiyi, who retired in November 2015. Two other Justices of the Court of Appeal, Amina Augie and Garba Lawal, were also said to have been interviewed, in order to fill in the vacancy left behind by Justice Muhammad Muntaka-Coomasie, who retired on February 10. Either Eko, who hails from Benue State, or Dongbam-Mesen from Plateau State will fill in the slot of the North Central geo-political zone on the bench which became vacant with the retirement of Justice Fabiyi, who hails from Kogi State in the same zone. Augie or Lawal will replace Muntaka-Coomasie who hails from Kaduna State. After the NJC’s plenary, the name of one of the two candidates will be forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari, who is vested with the powers to appoint. The number of the Supreme Court Justices last week dropped from 16 to 15 with the retirement of Justice Muhammad Muntaka-Coomasie, who attained the mandatory retirement age of 70 on February 10.
