kahal29: PRESS RELEASE
I’m compelled to say a few words on the attempt by some people to apportion blame on President Muhammadu Buhari on the state of the economy and also share my view on the call by Senator Dino Malaye on the President to sack some ministers and Central Bank Governor as the solution to the problem.
As a former Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, and until recently Appropriation, I am in a good position to contribute and proffer solutions to the problem.
Let me state very categorically that the President is not to blame on the state of our economy today. It is unfair and very wicked to push such blame on a man who just came on board barely a year ago. Not even a magician can turn around the economy within a period of one year. The biggest spending in our economy, that is the budget, hasn’t even run a full course of one year. Yet, some people want to crucify President Buhari. Haba! Let’s face reality!
We all know how badly oil price has gone, a situation that adversely affected our foreign reserves and mounted pressure on the naira. No matter what approach we adopt to manage and deal with the situation, recovery will be slow. It is not President Buhari’s fault. Everyone seems to forget when the whole country was supporting more spending as against saving. But here we are today, soaked in the rainy day. President Buhari should not be used as anybody’s scape goat!
The recurrent expenditure, which has escalated and constituted a huge burden on our yearly budget rose from N950.32billion in 2006 to N1.372.20 trillion in 2008 and N2.593.62 trillion in 2015. This was not created by President Buhari.
Similarly, the total cash call (oil production cost) which rose from about N200 billion in 2006 to about N1.2 trillion in 2015 was not a creation of President Buhari. The cash call has remained another tale of burden on our yearly budget. Statutory transfers including that of the NASS are not left behind. Statutory transfers rose from just about N100 billion in 2006 to N375.62 billion in 2015. President Buhari was not the President then.
Debt servicing also rose from about N300 billion in 2006 to N953.62 billion in 2015. These expenditures have over the years constrained the budget and made it difficult to channel sufficient funds towards productive sectors that can sufficiently grow the economy. Domestic borrowing also skyrocketed during this period and created devastating consequences on the economy.
Government at that time continued to mop up money from commercial banks at a rate considered one of the highest in the world, while the real sector is left with nothing. And even when they were able to access funds, it came with an unbearable interest rate. President Buhari met this situation on ground. He did not create it, but is doing his very best to take us out of the economic quagmire. We should all support him.
On the call by Sen. Melaye on Mr. President to sack some ministers, I disagree with that proposition. Nigerians are of the habit of asking for the sack or removal of public officers, often for sentimental reasons, envy or simply for an opportunity to join the fray. In my assessment, I have not seen any member of the President’s cabinet today — from SGF, HOS to ministers — that is not good enough to hold the office. At worse, the President may wish to reshuffle a couple of or more ministers based on their strength and weaknesses for better service delivery.
A minister doesn’t have to know everything. A minister has an ample latitude to draw knowledge from the MDAs staff or within the larger society to achieve result in his ministry. I believe that most of the present cabinet ministers can source information or knowledge from these reservoir when the need arises. I have worked very closely with most of them and I am convinced that they have proved their mettle despite managing a very difficult situation that they did not create.
I am sure nobody can question the competence of Udoma Udoma. Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun is also doing her best, and having worked with her, I am convinced she has all it takes to turn around the economy. The Central Bank Governor is managing the most challenging period the apex bank has ever witnessed. I think the president has worked with this team for about a year. His cabinet team understands him better and vice-versa.
I believe if they stay focused and refuse to be distracted, we shall soon start seeing the dividends. The President must not fall for the trap of people trying to distort the progress made so far. Whoever he appoints again, the call for sack will never stop.Â
I am therefore calling on my colleague, brother and friend, Senator Dino Malaye that we should rather look inward and address our own contribution to this problem as lawmakers. We can start by addressing the budget and other monumental fraud under the watch of Speaker Yakubu Dogara, a systemic corruption that affected and continued to derail the economy of our dear country. That is the appropriate place to start. Remember, charity begins at home!Â

Politics › Re: Niger Delta Avengers Cease Attacks On Pipelines by duwdu: 12:01pm On Aug 30, 2016 |
princesweet: The Niger Delta Avengers militants said last night that they were done with the hostilities. The group whose attacks have caused a huge dip in Nigeria’s oil exports, forcing the economy into a big crisis.
The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) broke the news in a letter posted on its website by its spokesman, Mudoch Agbinibo, and addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari. It also spoke of the need for regular dialogue to take place for the Nigerian union to survive.
Presidential spokesman Femi Adesina welcomed the cessation of hostilities by the Avengers as “a good development which is in the interest of the country and especially the Niger Delta people.”
He said “anything that portends peace is always good,” adding that “we hope that it cuts across board and it is sincere.”
The Avengers alleged that the Federal Government was out to execute a predetermined genocide against the people of the Niger Delta through the recently launched Operation Crocodile Smile, which the military high command has explained as just a training drill designed to prepare the Amphibious Division for a better mastery of the Niger Delta terrain.
The Niger Delta Avengers also observed that the Nigerian system would work better if the Federal Government learns from the developed democracies to allow internal protests and conflicts aimed at greater good of the nation.
“We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to put away the garb of a stooge to the imperialists, whenever he speaks outside Nigeria. We have listened carefully and halted hostilities in the Niger Delta.
We expect a genuine and positive attitude to restructuring and self-determination for every component unit of Nigeria. Dear president, what makes those countries (Japan, Germany, France, USA, Britain etc.) great is the ability of their governments to accommodate internal protestations and conflicts for the greater good of their nations over the years.
“Nigeria is not a one-man personal property. We must have these talks every time if this union must continue to work as one. The people of the Niger Delta have been living here from time immemorial, so we have the secret of the terrain and survival of amphibious operations.
“No amount of troop surge and simulation exercises will make you win the oil war; you can only win battles. You cannot apply the might of the state to restore the people’s confidence in your leadership when you cannot differentiate between genuine demands and being mismanaged by disorganised characters and tribal lords around you in your government that are playing the court jesters’ role as well as counting the days that is left in your four years term.
“You can deceive the whole world but we cannot be deceived by the so glamorized ongoing military operations in the creeks of Ijaw communities in the Delta coded “ Operation Crocodile Smiles”… the world should knows that with your pronouncement in Kenya and your attitude to the military build-up in the Niger Delta, it is crystal clear that the military has nothing less than a pre-determined genocide in Niger Delta and burn more already scared national resources to the pockets of those that have failed to locate the missing Chibok School Girls.
“Please also tell those foreign nations that your troops are about carrying out extrajudicial killings in the Niger Delta in violation of Article Four of the Geneva Convention with “OPERATION CROCODILE SMILE”. All sane minds know the meaning of “ CROCRODILE TEARS” so by code-naming your military operation CROCODILE SMILES only betrays your motives and attitude to the whole world about the Niger Delta question.”
With an end to bombings, there is hope for increased oil and gas production, which will translate to more revenue for the Federation.
The militants in the last few months hit major pipelines including Shell’s Nembe Creek Trunk Line (NCTL) and Forcados terminal, ExxonMobil and Agip’s facilities. These attacks led to shut-in of various crude grades from Nigeria.
At the peak of the attacks, production dropped to 1.4 million barrels per day (bpd) against a budgeted 2.2 million bpd. Production had risen to 1.9 bpd before the renewed attacks. http://www.newsflashng.com/niger-delta-avengers-cease-attacks-pipelines/ My God! One knew that these so-called "Delta Avengers" have been full of sh!t all the while. Hehehe. Mehn, President Buhari IS good! Thumbs up! His government has cowed and defeated these miscreants, economic terrorists and destroyers of their own people and environment without firing a single shot — literally speaking. Who says this country under Buhari doesn't have a shot at greatness? Thank goodness, mehn, thank God! Thumbs up! P34c3 ..... ... |

Stanley08: When did you buy ur sim? If it's over 90 days, ur data test drive period is over. They have always said that they will throttle ur speed after the first 90 days. Maybe u didn't do ur research well.
Just buy a new SIM. Better still, wait for the network to get relatively better, then buy a new SIM. Cheers I respectively disagree, Stanley08, that a 4G network speed throttle from a normal ~8MB/s (yes, i'm a witness, not mb/s o,) down to ~200kbps (~25KB/s) is ever justifiable on the basis that a pre-sale warning was given. In any case, please correct me if I missed it: But, I haven't come across where ntel quoted by how much downwards speed throttling would be invoked. To me, a throttling during peak hours to about half it's current proven optimal strength (down to ~4MB/s, say, from ~8MB/s) may still be acceptable; after all, one can sometimes attain - even surpass 4MB/s in present-day 3G services in Nigeria, to which speed I testify on the MTN network in Lagos. That's my 2 Kobo sha. Having said all that, your head dey there with that new SIM strategy - if/whenever speed throttling is invoked. P34c3 ..... ... |

The speed throttling implementation starts early in the morning, and then normal speed is restored late in the midnight, and this happens whether you download or not. It's extremely frustrating. This is a network that is new on the block, yet has started misbehaving, frustrating its early users. Whoa...this sort of throttling, even as the network is just mildly populated as yet? This is recipe for customer flight, especially if it continues! Hmm. Anyways, one just hopes the company knows what it is doing. P34c3 ..... ... |

Can you please resolve this issue for me one way or the other?
Thanks!

Politics › Re: Is The $2.2 Billion Arms Deal Fraud Really A Propaganda? by duwdu: 4:03pm On Jan 14, 2016 |
TonyeBarcanista: This article is to put to rest the attempt by some opponent of the ongoing anti-corruption fight to label the $2.2billion Arms scandal a propaganda.
While some opponent of the #armsgate probe allege that the money involved is $300million, facts on ground shows otherwise.
The $322 million Diverted Abacha Loot Firstly, let me clarify on the $322million(not $300million) Abacha loot.
The said Abacha's loot came in mid(and late) 2014 from the Principality of Liechtenstein($227million) and the State of Jersey in the Channels' Island.
Before the monies even came, the FG set up a three man interministerial committee comprising of exNSA Sambo Dasuli, ex-justice minister Muhammed Adoke and ex-finance minister Ngozi Iwaela. www.vanguardngr.com/2014/06/fg-receive-n37bn-abachas-loot-june-25/
The FG panel recommended that the money be used to purchase arms and on January 20, 2015, Ngozi Okonjo Iwaela sent a memo to President Jonathan to transfer $322 million to Sambo Dasuki which was approved. Excerpt of the letter reads...
www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/how-okonjo-iweala-diverted-n61-4bn-abacha-loot-to-nsa-report/
This was confirmed by NOI in her December 10, 2015 statement through her spokesperson Mr. Paul Nwabuikwu. Here is a quote in his statement
www.punchng.com/arms-scam-i-transferred-322m-to-dasuki-says-okonjo-iweala/
I think this has been clarified that the $322 million was also enmarked for arms purchase. Let us see whether it was then entire money or a part of the whole.
The $2.2 Billion Arms Deal After the sack of Sambo Dasuki as NSA in July 2015, the FG set up panel to investigate arms purchase from March 2007 to 2015 when Dasuki left as it was discovered that though the FG under Jonathan claimed to enmark billions for arms, the army authorities(including former Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh) were complaining of lack of arms to confront Boko Haram. Here is an excerpt of the committee finding
www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/193398-%E2%80%8Bbuhari-orders-arrest-of-ex-nsa-dasuki-others-indicted-in-arms-contract-report.html
If you add the figures above, it will give an estimated total of $2.2billion. Also, the emboldened is clear enough to tell that the diverted arms money was from 2012 to 2015. While the $322 million is part of the entire arms money, it is not the ONLY money involved. Dasuki was appointed NSA in July 2012.
The panel also discoverd that “The contracts, which were said to be for the purchase of four Alpha Jets, 12 helicopters, bombs and ammunition were not executed and the equipment were never supplied to the Nigerian Air Force, neither are they in its inventory.
Is The $2.2billion Arms Probe Still A Propaganda? After reading the above, will someone still call the $2.2 billion arms probe a "propaganda"?
If you read all the statements of Sambo Dasuki, he never denied the total money involved. He merely said that all payment were approved by Goodluck Jonathan http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/arms-contracts-payments-endorsed-by-ex-president-jonathan-dasuki/120239.html.
Even Jonathan's statement in the USA of not approving $2.2 billion at once does not invalidate the subject. Nowhere did anybody allege that the entire $2.2 billion came in one batch. It is the estimated cumulative of extra-budgetary amount on arms probe from 2012 to March 2015.
We are at a period where we have to choose between taking a position calling for the prosecution of alleged corrupt government officials and their allies, or standing behind the corrupt element to fight against the anti-corruption crusade. This is not about APC and PDP but about Nigeria. There is no sitting on the fence.
Since taking this noble position on the fight against corruption, I have been abused, insulted and called names by opponent of the corruption fight. Nevertheless, I shall not yield to blackmail nor cease from standing for justice. Justice must be served!
May God Bless Us All and Bless Nigeria Well narrated and stated, @TonyeBarcanista. You're making up for lost ground (no pun intended.) P34c3 ..... ... |

GEJ and his goons shall never escape karma for inflicting so much damage on our beloved country. I hope the buhari locks them up and throw away the keys like he did to that biafraudster called Nnamdi Kanu Very well said, @irunooboo. P34c3 ..... ... |

omogin: Send me your account number. If buhari allows a free inquiry into the halliburton scandal you get 100k I would have - if your ground rules were unbiased from the start. Or, put another way, who will determine that the inquiry reportedly being set up by Buhari is allowed to be free, as you've craftily inserted into your ground rules? Kindly restate your bet offer by simply removing that diabolical word, "free," from your ground rules, and we're on. P34c3 ..... ... |

I honestly think people with mindsets such as you've expressed here, are lending too much credence to OBJ's own view of the world, particularly his own world. P34c3 ..... ... |
