@modath, what you guys are going thru in far away north can only be better imagined. The last time i was anywhere near the north, i could hear my nerves practically begging God for mercies, less than 2days i left jos but i took a part of them with me.
I could infer in the manner of speaking that you are a yoruba true & true unless otherwise. With these unthinkable revelations splaterred all over our faces, don't you think yoruba leadership has lost it somewhere in between? Pls, don't tell me obj, gej or pdp bought their conscience. Has yoruba leadership not become a bidding war since the return to democracy?. What's your view... I had to sneak out the way i sneaked in.., so busy at the moment.
The truth has spoken!
While we await modath to make a direct response, my own take is that those you're making reference to are not the current legitimate leaders of the Yoruba. I can even venture further to say, they've actually never been.

To me, the true leaders of a people - the Yoruba, for instance - are those that the people can queue behind to vote for in a transparent election or leadership/political process. In other words, true leaders are those the people can surrender/trust their political power to. And as far as one can see, all other powers flow from the political realm! [Even in dictatorships, including the brands practiced by Lenin, Mao, Selassie, or Hitler.]

Bros,

Let me tell you a little story. Back in my youth, when we were on Jamb-Uni transition, we we hung out a lot...........there was this story of a guy that "hit" (stole) a large sum of money from his parents. The "gbege" became a police matter. Then police started an arrest spree. If he had as much as bought gala for you, you're arrested. His girl friend claimed he gave her 5k (just like 50k of today) and she used it to buy a skirt. The DPO was so upset(5k for a skirt?), and locked her up.

You cannot claim innocence in a scandal of this magnitude. And our so called Elders in Afenifere who had lost their relevance and now loosing their name, it's a pity
Yours is a very good and mature response, @mapet, to that diabolical post by omenka; many thanks!

Why I took N100m from Anenih –Falae

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief Olu Falae, has admitted that he collected N100 million from the former chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). New Telegraph had exclusively reported yesterday that a former SGF and erstwhile governor in the South-West got N100 million each from the N260 million given to Anenih by the office of the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

Falae told New Telegraph yesterday that the money was purely an interparty affair between the PDP and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which he is the National Chairman. The former presidential candidate said the money was given to the SDP to effectively campaign for the PDP in the 2015 presidential election. According to him, in the build up to the 2015 general elections, the PDP and SDP entered into working agreement.

His words: “In the build up to the presidential election, the PDP approached the SDP which I chaired. The then ruling party solicited for our support in order for President Goodluck Jonathan to win the March 28 presidential election. “Anenih related with me as the chairman of the PDP BoT and I did same as the SDP National Chairman. He wrote to me as PDP BoT chairman and I wrote back as SDP National Chairman stating conditions/terms for the alliance.

I have the record. “It is true that N100 million was given to my party to endorse and work for the Jonathan’s candidature in the 2015 election. We used the money for that purpose and we effectively campaigned for the PDP since we did not have presidential candidate in the election. The money was not for me.

Politics › Re: Igbo Intimidating Buhari With Biafra To Get Appointments – Sagay by duwdu:
byteHead:
Constitutional lawyer and Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN) on Thursday came down hard on proponents of the agitation of Biafra Republic, saying they are doing so for selfish reasons.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent on why the agitation for Biafra became so serious after former president Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure, Sagay said those clamouring for Biafra are doing so in order to intimidate President Muhammadu Buhari into giving the Igbos positions they don’t deserve having rigged themselves out of contention in the present administration.

Describing the Igbos as die-hard loyalists of Jonathan, he said the Igbos who occupied 50 percent of federal positions in the country under the Jonathan administration resorted to rigging for the PDP in the last general elections.

According to him, having lost out due to their lack of principle, opportunism and rigging, the Igbos decided to resurrect Biafra as a ploy to negotiate with the federal government for appointments they don’t deserve.

“I have been studying elections very closely in this country since 2007. The Igbos were committed to Goodluck Jonathan. But they didn’t leave it at that just convince people to vote for him”.

“They decided to rig for PDP and Jonathan. They did that yet, the party still lost out at the federal level. So, they lost out”.

“If you look at Jonathan’s government, the Igbos were in almost 50 percent of positions in this country. But they lost out because of their rigging and opportunism and lack of principle”.

“And now they want to take it out on Buhari by resurrecting Biafra. They want to intimidate Buhari so much. They will now want to negotiate with them and start giving them things and positions they don’t deserve. That is intimidation and threat for no just cause”

“In summary, they rigged themselves out of contention in the present administration and they are not prepared to accept the consequence of their own actions” he said.

http://dailyindependentnig.com/2016/01/igbo-intimidating-buhari-biafra-get-appointments-sagay/
These are very brave, and brutally honest things to say, Professor Sagay, and, as it were, they can't be dismissed by a wave of the hand. I sincerely hope these words of yours give The President further ammunition to continue in the noble and fair path he has chosen to guide his administration.

Come to think of it, there are at least 250 ethnic groups in Nigeria. If some people clamor for Federal offices on the basis that theirs is supposedly the third largest ethnic group in Nigeria, what will be left for the ethnic groups close to number 200 in terms of population/size, fro instance?

God willing, Nigeria will now start to properly develop, growing from strength to strength.

Politics › Re: Igbos, Please Leave The Niger Delta Alone by duwdu: 12:59pm On Jan 07, 2016
Afam4eva:
One of the reasons why I don’t support groups such as MASSOB or IPOB is not because I don’t think Igbos or any group for that matter have the right for self-determination. My only worry is the mode through which this is carried out. The truth is that the Biafran dream will remain a pipe dream if the initiators go about it the way they are currently. Apart from the fact that they are not going about it the right way by appealing to those that matter in Igboland and taking their case to the United Nations (UN), the most embarrassing disposition that they have created is one of forcing people who have not given their consent to be included in the Biafran agenda.

The fact that most of the areas known as the Niger Delta were naturally part of the old eastern region and as such were naturally part of the Biafran agitation in the 60s does not mean the same thing holds today. The divide and rule tactics has worked and anybody that can’t see it needs to go for an eye checkup. I’m tired of this whole “We are not Igbo, we are Edo”, “Our ancestors ate Igbo yam and that is why we are Igbo” or the opposing views that portray such desperate disposition that could be mistaken as Hitler’s intended conquering of Europe.

Igbos should fight for their rights and their only. Let’s stop this “SS and SE” BS. This people have oil for Bleep sake. Leave them the heck alone. They don’t want to have anything to do with you. I wonder why you can’t see that. They probably hate you more than the Hausas and the Yorubas that you see as your arch rivals. You have nothing to offer them, so leave them the heck alone.

In my mind, I even think it will make more sense for Igbos to align with other major groups and not minorities. These minorities don’t care about you. They see you as a land grabber. It doesn’t matter whether their names are the same as yours, their mode of thinking and vision is different, so it will serve you well if you focus on your SE affairs and stop romancing people that don’t want to be romanced.

If you are really passionate about getting Biafra whether or not it comes with oil or seaport then you must present your Biafran case as the SE alone. Don’t even include the Asaba area, atleast for now. Present your case as the war ravaged SE that no one can benefit from and the powers that be may change their kind and give it to you. But as long as you keep romancing oil, those Abuja people will not mind being Niger Delta’s father Christmas by sending gun wielding soldiers to teach you a bitter lesson for the second time. A word is enough for the wise.
These are very direct and potent words of wisdom. And thanks for articulating the issues so well. So, to those that have ears, let them hear.

To be quite honest, and in my estimation, more than 95% of those with economic and political influence over the core region from within which the ardent advocates of this secession thingy emanate, do not give a hoot about such extremism. They're just making progress and growing within and out of their reduced original region of influence the best way they deem fit.

Good luck, everyone.

Politics › Re: Resign Now, PDP NYF To Metuh by duwdu: 12:34pm On Jan 07, 2016
byteHead:
The PDP National Youth Frontier (PDP NYF) has called for the resignation of embattled national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh.

Olise Metuh, embattled PDP’s publicity secretary
In a statement signed by its national coordinator, Usman Okai Austin, the body noted with great concern, the various allegations and charges against some PDP members that served in government, even as these allegations and charges are yet to be proven.

According to the group, “We are calling for the immediate resignation of Olisa Metuh from his position as National Publicity Secretary until ongoing corruption investigations by the EFCC are concluded. The PDP as the voice of Nigeria’s opposition must remain credible and untainted.

“We dissociate well-meaning and credible members of the PDP completely from any corrupt practices perpetuated by a minority while the party was in power. Not everybody in PDP is corrupt.

“However, while we are aware that indeed an insignificant fraction of members of the PDP may have indulged in acts capable of tarnishing the integrity of our great party, we call on President Muhammadu Buhari to expand the scope of the war to include members of his own party indicted for acts of corruption. We are calling on the President to investigate some of his serving ministers and associates who have grievous allegations leveled against them,” the group said.

PDP NYF said it has resolved to ensure that any member of the PDP so convicted shall also face intra party disciplinary actions and severely sanctioned accordingly.

“As a prominent PDP youth group with a membership profile in excess of 300,000 across the zones of Nigeria, we find it difficult to understand the nature of transactions which caused there to be huge sums of cash deposits into the private bank accounts of a few party members who are not known to be government workers, contractors or administrators. Only anti-graft agencies and the courts can assist in resolving these mysteries and Nigerians are eagerly waiting.

“The PDP stands steadfastly by the ideals of the G-34 founding fathers of the party. The ‘Principle of the Rule of Law’, which was a cardinal, focus of founding fathers of the party remains sacrosanct and immutable.

“Let us however seize this opportunity to state that while the war against corruption is in the overall interest of Nigerians, it must not be used as a weapon to victimize and weaken the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP). Events of the past few weeks have shown that the fabric of democracy is threatened and the opposition is at risk of being beaten into a state of silence by a leading party that is notorious for its open contempt of our judiciary.”

The group said on behalf of the party, it regret the conduct of prominent members of our great party who have so far been fingered in acts ranging from corruption to outright theft.

“But we shall not preempt the courts by pronouncing them guilty. We strongly aver that it is only in the best interest of our great party that they step aside, handing over the reins of leadership to persons who command bigger measures of respect. Their continued stay in office shall continue to rob our great party of its integrity, honour and credibility on a daily basis. As it stands, Nigerians are watching and no serious Nigerian is currently taking our party seriously.

“Under the party’s current leadership, the party is now being represented at various levels, including the social media by some of the most funny, shady and incompetent characters. Who will take such a party seriously?

“Finally, we reiterate our commitment and loyalty to the ideals of the founding fathers of PDP and remain resolved to work for the success of the coming national convention which we are hopeful will throw up a new set of strong, vibrant, credible and selfless leaders

https://www.naij.com/688372-dasukigate-pdp-nyf-calls-immediate-resignation-olisa-metuh.html
Your statement is well, PDP NYF. The only thing is that you should come off your continued illusion that members of the APC that have credible petitions and evidences against them, particularly at the Federal level, are not being or have not been investigated. Such an illusion only serves to becloud your judgement and the probable solutions to the problems of your own party.

Just continue to honestly and squarely face your own issues that are under your control, and all may turn out well for you and your party - or at least return to your definition or paradigm of normalcy - in the end.

Good luck.

Consequent upon such success, and coupled with the other proper governance issues that are currently being put in place, our society is being set on the path to true, proper, and sustainable development and growth.

A Word For Olisa Metuh, The ‘Dasuki For President’ Campaigner

By Emmanuel Ugwu Jan 05, 2016

Now that EFCC has arrested you for interrogation, start preparing to defend yourself in court. You need to ready your mind for the grist of cartoons the media will make out your case. You need to hire some lawyers –preferably, those Senior Advocates of Nigeria whose specialty is defending corrupt politicians!
- Emmanuel Uchenna Ugwu Jan 05, 2016

Certain propositions are so pathetically impossible that a person who undertakes to utter them audibly earns questions about their sanity.

https://saharareporters.com/sites/default/files/styles/normal_medium/public/page_images/news/2014/metuh.jpg?itok=TY7zhsqP
Olisah Metuh

Olisa Metuh’s suggestion that Sambo Dasuki, former National Security Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan and the infamous mascot of the Peoples Democratic Party era of unprecedented plunder of the Nigerian treasury, is the odds-on favorite to win the presidency in 2019 rests in that category of unfeasible you-dey-craze? fantasy.

Metuh, the National Publicity Secretary of the ‘’largest political party in Africa’’ now reduced –in David Mark’s words –to a party ‘’in coma’’, is dreaming of PDP’s return to the Nigerian presidency. Dreaming of the party’s recovery of the keys to the national treasury. Dreaming of the return of kleptocracy.

And Metuh figures that Dasuki, the most aggressive looter of public funds Nigeria has ever seen, is best suited to actualize the dream!

Metuh claimed that the Buhari administration was not pressing charges against Dasuki because the ex-NSA repurposed the money earmarked for the purchase of arms for the anti-insurgency operations of the Nigerian military and rerouted it to private pockets. Metuh said Buhari was trying to secure himself an easy re-election in 2019 by eliminating Dasuki, his presumptive rival, through persecution.

Metuh said that Buhari was manifestly threatened by the prospect of a Dasuki candidacy, ‘’given his vast political and security network’’. Buhari was all the more jittery because ‘’the PDP has zoned its presidential ticket to the north’’, where Dasuki hails from.

All decent members of the PDP ought to feel scandalized by Metuh’s comment. They should be embarrassed that the man who speaks for their party and the entirety of its members is possessed of an appalling thought process.

Metuh who had once accused President Muhammadu Buhari of ‘’demarketing Nigeria’’ gave himself away as a foolish man.

For starters, nothing is more obvious than the fact that Dasuki’s own horse’s mouth admission that he wantonly raided the treasury and spread the cash among chieftains of the PDP has tarnished him till death.

His confessions have foreclosed his chance of his featuring in governance again. His unmasking as the linchpin who evacuated the treasury and packed the pockets of PDP big men full of loot places him under eternal stigma. After his plunder of the defense budget left Nigerian troops armless before Boko Haram; after he contributed to the making of 2 million internally displaced persons; after he has caused an indeterminate fraction of 20,000 deaths, he is too irreparably damaged to attempt a bid for any public office.

The prospect of a Dasuki run for the presidency is so bleak it cannot be wished into feasibility. Dasuki represents PDP’s worst advertisement. He is the most toxic liability the party can dare to parade.

Metuh, a ‘’lawyer’’ who functioned in the highest hierarchy of a former ruling party should know that a Dasuki presidential campaign will make the election a walkover for the incumbent. Metuh should know that better than any newspaper stand political pundit!

And, even if we assume that Dasuki has a fighting chance, the towering evidence against him and the corroboration of the profiteers of his looting philanthropy make it almost certain that he will end up in jail.

But Metuh is hankering for a Dasuki presidency counterintuitively. He just can’t help trying to procure the incredible with his optimism. This is because Dasuki symbolizes normalcy to Metuh. Dasuki personifies the ideology of mindless looting that Metuh has grown to be dependent on.

Dasuki’s criminal generosity to the party’s big men bespeaks a loyal conformation to the PDP’s de facto motto ‘’PDP, share the money!’’

Ordinarily, one would have encouraged Metuh and his party to self-destruct by crowning Dasuki PDP’s presidential nominee. At least, we will have drama at the looters’ expense. The Dasuki for President campaign will, for sure, fetch the PDP a wipeout.

But to taunt Metuh and PDP into proving that Dasuki’s ‘’vast political and security network’’ make the potential prisoner invincible would be subscribing to the insult implicit in Metuh’s suggestion.

Metuh’s wild claim that Dasuki is the only Northerner who is ready to be president is a blanket slur on all the human beings of the region.

The mention that Dasuki is PDP’s pre-ordained presidential candidate implies that the north suffers the scarcity of men of presidential caliber. There is no man or woman from the north who has a nobler profile than a notorious rogue. No one is competent and fit to be President except Dasuki.

That’s a proper abuse. And, it is, needless to say, a diabolical lie.

The North is rich in honorable and capable people. The North boasts many decent men and women who can creditably govern Nigeria. Dasuki is not the best leadership material the North can gift Nigeria. If anything, he is probably the worst face that can represent the North.

Metuh knows this. The reason why he is campaigning for a Dasuki presidency, I imagine, must be that Metuh personally yearns for the good old days which Dasuki represents.

PDP’s loss of the presidency in 2015 was disruptive. The party’s defeat abruptly ended the enjoyment Metuh and his ilk would last for 60 years.

That would have been the longest running heist in human history. Muhammadu Buhari’s victory, thankfully, truncated that and rid the nation of merciless rapists.

The change of fortune hit Metuh and his likes too bad. They weren’t weaned. They were thrust into starvation!

Metuh misses the old order. He had himself publicly confessed that the defunct looting regime enriched him.

When Dasuki started to reel out the names of the PDP folks he had shared Nigeria’s defense budget with, Metuh was seized by fear. He panicked as he saw his friends, collaborators and fellow party chieftains implicated in the arms purchase scam and he arranged a hasty press conference. He said he must be excused from the ongoing arrests because he didn’t receive his bribes from Dasuki, the National Security Adviser. He received his own bribes from…Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the President of Nigeria!

With a glint of shameful pride in his eyes, Metuh said, ‘’ in the course of my duties’’ as National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, ‘’the then President invited and directed I carry out some assignments relating to my office and which he duly funded.’’

That has now been officially graded a pants-on-fire lie!

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission reported that Metuh was one of the biggest profiteers of the Dasukigate arms scam. Metuh received, through the bank account of his company, Destra Investment Limited, hefty deposits. On November 24, 2014, he received 400 million naira; on December 2 and 4, 2014, he received 253 million naira; on the same December 2, 2014, he received 91 million naira and 92 million naira on December 3, 2014.

The state investigators can’t find any trace of paperwork that remotely suggests the multi-million naira payments were made in fulfillment of terms of a valid contract.

Other documents show that Metuh was collecting 4 million naira cash from Dasuki’s office as monthly stipend!

What we have learnt from this seemingly inexhaustible fraud, whose particulars are being released piecemeal –ostensibly in deference to the citizenry’s inability to bear the impact of a one-off dumping- is that the entire PDP/Dasuki regime did not stop at normalizing looting of public funds. The regime legitimized the crime.

The regime made participation in the plunder the standard proof of your status. Those who are somebody by Abuja’s reckoning partake of the loot: Those who don’t measure up don’t enjoy ‘’the privilege.’’

Metuh, a man of little mettle and poor reason, cannot be fairly described as any better than the most underwhelming image maker a political party can retain. His press statements are wishy-washy, weedy and weak. His off the cuff remarks are feeble, facile and forgettable. Every of his engagement with the public tends to succeed only in confirming that he is out of his depth!

But the mediocre whose skill set is supposed to be a sentencing to subsistence livelihood collected a 1.4 billion naira –for his effort in gaining admission into the looting gang!

Dasuki paid Metuh unmerited monies just as he paid Iyorchia Ayu, an expired politician, 345 million for consultancy on ‘’electoral matters.’’

The party is over. The bank deposit alerts no longer stream in. And the anti-graft agencies are haunting and hunting the predators!

Metuh wants Nigeria to return to kleptocracy. That will not happen. The current paradigm cannot permit the ascension of a notorious thief to the Nigerian presidency.

Here’s my advice to Olisa Metuh:

Now that EFCC has arrested you for interrogation, start preparing to defend yourself in court. You need to ready your mind for the grist of cartoons the media will make out your case. You need to hire some lawyers –preferably, those Senior Advocates of Nigeria whose specialty is defending corrupt politicians!

You need not worry about 2019. Or an impractical Dasuki for President campaign. What should agitate your mind is the present challenge of stopping your own looming jail term!

Dasukigate: Our Collective Burden

By Denja Yaqub Jan 05, 2016

The fraud committed under the watch of this Coordinating Minister is not just in financial quantum, but even in statistics as she proclaimed a dying economy as leading the African continent in progress even when the entire country know no difference between day and night as most hours of the 365 days a year were without public electricity with a population estimated at over 170 million without functioning manufacturing industries, despite several millions of unemployed graduates.

Since the inauguration of the current government, it has become clear that Nigeria has been under siege for decades, vacillating from one corrupt government to the other with leaders who either lack patriotic commitment for the collective interests of the country or came into office with a deliberate intention to heartlessly destroy the country.

It is still difficult to decipher how people placed in position of authority and responsibility to secure the country and her people could consider monies allocated for the battle against terrorism as their individual shares of our collective wealth.

What has come out of the ongoing investigations of stolen funds, not just the ones involving the immediate past National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, Rtd, is a fact that the country’s collective interests, including the interest of the government under whose watch these criminalities were pervasively carried out with unbridled impunity, matters less. Any responsible government should be interested in leaving verifiable legacies that adds value to human lives and society.

Being the first time Nigeria will transit from one political party to another, it is once again another opportunity Nigerians have to be inundated with revelations on how our resources were diverted to private vaults. Only military regimes, especially the one led by Major General Mohammadu Buhari, which terminated the profligate Shehu Shagari civilian government in December 1983, has been able to expose, recover, prosecute and appropriately jail politicians and public officers who railroaded public funds to personal accounts not just in Nigerian banks, but foreign banks especially in Europe and America.

The conducts of politicians and public officials under Shagari's watch predictably terminated the second republic. Obviously, governments that followed, with the exception of the Buhari-Idiagbon military junta, grew bigger in record as having deepened corruption, system manipulation and infrastructural decay much more than the Shagari government.

But what is specifically frightening, to say the least, is the cruel manner with which public officers wickedly stole public funds during the last administration headed by Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, the first PhD holder to occupy the country’s apex position.

Before now, even those who proclaimed the Jonathan government as the most corrupt would never have believed that corruption was indeed as pervasive to the extent that human lives were of no concern. We were so audaciously robbed in manners worse than the common armed robbery which has taken over the place of productive employment in Nigeria. While the entire country was held captive under consistent threats of ruthlessly destabilising blasts, not just in the North East where terrorists held sway just as the administration kept offering consistent plastic reassurances of its military’s capability to smash the gang of armed urchins promoted to terrorists of global repute by government’s ineptitude, some heartless racketeers in top positions in the administration were busy funnelling funds meant to procure superior arms to their cronies’ accounts either for campaigns, spiritual consultations or other egocentric personal concerns, while ordinary citizens were consistently murdered in their thousands in several parts of the country, including the Federal Capital.

Indeed, nearly all the Local Government Areas of Borno State were seized and proclaimed a caliphate separate from the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a country whose President and Commander in Chief swore to protect its sovereignty.

It is morally nauseating that the Commander in Chief of the armed forces at that period was busy signing memos for the release of funds for arm purchases to his topmost security adviser without any knowledge that the funds found their way elsewhere. It is even an irresponsible excuse for any leader to deny knowledge of how funds as important as those meant to secure his country were dispensed.

To even think that any serving or former personnel of the World Bank would be involved in the monumental financial sleaze as it has obviously been revealed to have occurred under the watch of a former top staff of the bank, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala who was outlandishly referred to as Coordinating Minister of the Economy under the Jonathan administration during which public funds were massively looted is a clear sludge on the bank, a bank that prides itself as an advocate of meticulous conduct.

Ngozi may have been putting shameless defence in public places, but she most certainly can’t clean herself off the mess the disappearance of public funds under her watch as Finance Minister. All the revelations so far, either by those already arrested and facing trials or reported cases in the media call her moral and professional worthiness to question. In decent climes, she disqualifies herself from further public service; but neither The World Bank nor any of its neo liberal appendages or collaborators would give up such an important agent of second slavery so easily even when they continue to proclaim the country as one of the world’s most corrupt.

It is indeed beyond criminality that a country wobbling under collapsed infrastructures will have its financial resources in trillions of dollars in the private vaults of public officers whose responsibility was to revivify all sectors of the country back to operation to improve the quality of lives of the citizens.

The figures of monies stolen by public officers in Nigeria is absolutely earth-shaking, disheartening and an expose of the level of insanity of those who ruled this country to ruins.

And it is more tearfully painful that the perpetrators lack remorse as they shamelessly romance the judiciary as if it was their rights to steal,
when indeed they should have been shot dead after recovering their loots.

That public funds can so easily be stolen in Nigeria is not just a blushing display of the dangers of a cancerous system that is murderously annihilating our people, tearing off our country and globally smashing our collective image but a clear exposition of the deepening level of our collective docility and felonious tolerance of bad governance. We, as a people must wake, shed off ethnic and primordial considerations and deal with bad governance and all its vestiges, otherwise we will watch our country go down in total abyss.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed

The Federal Government has denied speculations on a purported withdrawal of the 2016 Appropriation Bill from the National Assembly for certain “alterations”.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in a telephone chat with our correspondent last night described it as a “big lie”. There were speculations that President Muhammadu Buhari had written to the National Assembly requesting to withdraw the budget proposal. He had on December 22 presented a budget estimate of N6.08 trillion to a joint session of the National Assembly.

The information minister emphasised yesterday that the budget was not withdrawn, saying: “It is a big lie. There is nothing like that. We don’t know where they are getting that story”. In the same vein, Senate Leader Mohammed Ali Ndume also told Daily Trust last night that the budget proposal was not withdrawn.

He said it was impossible to withdraw the budget, adding that it could only be adjusted, if need be, during its defence at the National Assembly.

“It is not a document that you can just write and say you are withdrawing it. The budget proposal that has been laid at a joint session of the National Assembly cannot just be withdrawn like that. Budget proposal is not a document that is sacrosanct. You can adjust it and this is why it is before us. During the budget defence, it can be adjusted if need be”, he said. Ndume disclosed that the budget defence would start as soon as the lawmakers resume from their Christmas and New Year break on January 12.
“It is then that they can add or do whatever they want on it but it cannot be withdrawn like that”, he said.
Guys, enough of these false "news" and rascally threads.
