Sweetnecta:
if jesus didn't raise himself up, how can jo raise anyone up?
If jesus truly died, he would have remained dead.
but jo's story and jesus's story have common thread; no true eyewitness.
finally, no one certified that death truly occurred.
@SweetnectaSMH . . . Jesus truly died so dont go up a creek without a paddle mate . . . Have you ever considered or wondered why Jesus didnt take longer than three days to rise from the dead? Lets sidestep or sideline the "Who" and/or or "Who am I . . ." but dwell on the Whats, Whys etc for now Do you know what Jesus is and/or was? Do you know what Christ signifies and/or what Christ is and/or was? Do you know why Jesus or Christ in the Jesus-Christ combo was/is indispensable? Do you understand what REALLY happened when Jesus gave up the ghost on the cross? (i.e. And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost - Luke 23:46 KJV ORWhen Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost - John 19:30 KJV) Do you understand the rationale of the gift of myrrh presented to Jesus' parent for Him? Do you understand the significance of Mary anointing the feet of Jesus with the pound of ointment of spikenard . . . Have you now figured out how Jesus rose from the dead? In addition to those snippets, maybe a familiarity with the Lazarus encounter along the line can aid . . . Well suffice to say a lot of water ran/was running under the bridge but the moment one of the simplest (i.e. carnal and spirit man thingy) is grasped then typical wantom ignorance(s) such as these can be diffused |

Does anyone know a church where:
1. They don't make an idol out of Mary like Catholics 2. They are not under the Sabbath law like Seventh Day Adventists 3. They are not under the tithing law like Pentecostals 4. They don't turn the grace of God into a licence to sin like the Lutherans 5. They don't believe they are THE true church like the Church of God 6. They believe in gifts of the Spirit unlike Baptists 7. They follow the full counsel of God unlike the Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses and other cults
New churches that are predominantly white have come close but many fall short at number 4.
Isn't there a church out there somewhere that is serious about God, righteousness and holiness without the man-made doctrines?
I think such a church does exist:
Mat 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them
The best, not perfect, church has to be one where believers gather in the name of Jesus, under the name of Jesus.
Churches today are simply promoting their pet doctrines.
Meet other believers, worship, pray, fellowship and go home until next time.
I think this is how I want to do church but where? @wetuWhere is that place, when two or three are gathered particularly in His name as your earlier referenced Matthew 18:20 reproduced below testifies . . . "For where two or three are gathered together in my name,
there am I in the midst of them" - Matthew 18:20 KJV Effectively all that is necessary as a prior condition for His presence is you and at least another person gathered together in His name However just like Eve, self-centered interpretations of the Bible paves the way for organisations (i.e. organised churches) such as any of the below: Aladura, Baptist, Celestial, Catholic, Methodist, Presbyterian, Seventh Day Adventist, Penterascals (i.e. aka Holy Roller or Holy Jumper) etc Mind you the organic church and the organised church(es) are poles apart and different as chalk and cheese So if it's a case of " want to do church" and be " serious about God, righteousness and holiness without the man-made doctrines" then seriously, the right and complete thing is: " Go ye therefore, and teach all nations . . ." and not staying put in place(s) especially organised church(es) for the world (i.e. people) to come meet you there or calling people come over to or in Mark, albeit paraphrased, followed suit with: " Go into all the world (i.e. system(s), place(s) of influence(s) etc) and make plain the good news to all" |

@Wetu
My dear Wetu, lets learn to understand scriptures within the context and not just pull a verse out .
Uncle Paul was admonishing the young pastor Tim on focusing on his ministry
and he never said occupying a leadership role in the governance of the country was an entanglement.
And being in Politics is a calling for some people who have the passion and are ready to establish righteousness.
Am sure you understand the priesthood(holy order) and kingship (political) order in the scripture quoted above.
Remember David was a priest and yet he reigned as a king and he was the only man in the scripture that God referred to as being after His heart.
Our Lord Jesus interestingly is scripturally referred to as Son of David. Are you now saying that God is not interested in politics?
Have you forgotten it was God that chose David as King?
Image123:
Just passing by rarely, noticed one thing though.
DAVID WAS NOT A PRIEST!
wetu:
@GMcompere
It's hard to discuss scripture when we bring the Old Testament into the current Covenant without proper interpretation.
God chose David as a king because that is what he was called to be, a king.
After all, David was not a Christian. He was also not a priest as you are saying. David's earthly kingdom symbolises Christ's heavenly Kingdom.
Luk 1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
Joh 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
Our kingdom is not of this world! Amen.
@Image123Think it was a slip in the heat of the moment @GMcompereDavid was not a priest but was a prophet and king It was David's predecessor Saul that pretended to be a priest (i.e. he temporarily assumed that office and it's role when Samuel was running late) |

If you like call on the name of Jesus or Christ.
Both are the same.
What really matters is the spirit behind what you are calling.
Example: Acts 19:13 told us about a group of Jews who were travellin from town to town casting out evil spirits.
They were gaining some success until they were confronted by a more powerful demon who overpowered them.
Why? They lacked the indwelling power of the Holy spirit which will make the name of Jesus effective.
Why do we pray in Christ/Jesus Name.
Go thru the quotes u posted and remember to read Philippians 4:4-6
"Don't worry about anything, instead pray about everything. Tell God what u need and thank him for what he has done.
Then u will experience God's peace which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."
In order to understand the above, read Rev 21:9 - 22:5
There u will find the end result of accepting Christ/Jesus as your Lord and savior, which is the will and command of God.
@yommyukMuncho gracias PS: By the way, that Paul's epistle you referenced is not Philippians 4:4-6 but rather is Philippians 4:6-7 NLT |
Christianity Etc › Re: The Blueprint For Church Growth by e36991: 9:37am On Apr 06, 2011 |
yommyuk:
Ephesians 4:16 He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
HE:-
The identity of “He” is Christ, the head of the body, who works through the individual parts (humans) by making them fit together (work in harmony)
and is the ultimate source of growth.
When Christ is truly acknowledged as the “Head” of the Church, the incredible power of his greatness flows through the members of the church.
The same mighty power that raised Christ from the death will be at work.
When Christ is made the “Head” of the church, the authority and power that God has invested in Christ that made him head over all things not in this world only
but in the unseen world and the world to come will be at work for the benefit of the church.
The church which is the body of Christ will be automatically made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.
As the Head of the Church, Christ should have the first place in everything. It should be all about him. He is the one to be magnified.
Why? Because Christ is preeminent.
WHOLE BODY:-
By using the adjective “Whole” , it means that everyone in the body is of equal importance.
Nobody should be given prominence above anyone else. Everyone within the body of Christ should have equal value.
We are all equal before God.
FIT TOGETHER PREFECTLY:-
Being “fit” or “joined” together is more of a building concept, similar to framing something together.
The purpose of the church as an institution is to become a dwelling place in which God lives by his Spirit.
When we are in Christ, we are no longer an isolated entity. We belong to something bigger than ourselves.
For we are all baptized by one Spirit into one body. Our identity shifts from “me” to “we”.
We come to the realisation that being excluded from the body, we can't fully function according to the purpose of God in our lives.
We need to be joined to the body of Christ more than the body of Christ needs to be joined to us.
A tree on its own does not make a forest and will be of little benefit to the environment it finds its self.
But where numerous trees are situated, the impact is far greater.
IT HELPS THE OTHERS GROW:-
There was a time I absconded from church.
One of the elders called me and said my absence is making the faith of some of the members of the church waiver.
Back then it made no sense to me because the selfishness in me said” why do they need ME to help their faith grow”.
LOVE:-
1 Corin 8:1-3 NLT [1]Now regarding your question about food that has been offered to idols. Yes we know that “we all have knowledge” about this issue. But while knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the Church. [2]Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn’t really know very much. [3]But the person who loves God is the one whom God recognises.
The word of God put me right in my place.
CONCLUSION:-
“LOVE” is the most important factor in Church growth. Let the Love of God grow.

Am i missing something here?
i supposed that the devil was on earth, not Heaven?
Sin is simply missing the mark of God's standard of righteousness.
It's like there's a target of righteousness, anyone who fails to hit the mark has sinned.
Jesus didn't need to be tempted to steal or fornicate, all He had to not do was miss the mark.
@Image123Affirmative, the devil is here on earth after getting booted out of heaven, with tail between legs and a scowl to matchNow resident in earth satan goes to and fro, walking up and down in it . . . Albeit, sin truly and simply is missing the mark of God's standard of righteousness but there is more . . . God's standard of righteousness is a target To score a bull's-eye requires hitting the target's centre with 3 aims which are meant to be released at the same The 3 aims are: [1] Doing the right thing, [2] Doing at the right time [3] Doing with a right standing with GOD (i.e. pre and post right standing that is) The 3 aims are released at the same time, anything less is sin In other words one defaults and commits sin by: [1] " Doing the right thing, at the right time with a wrong standing with GOD" [2] " Doing the right thing, at the wrong time with a right standing with GOD" [3] " Doing the wrong thing, at the right time with a right standing with GOD" Evidently taking pot shots at the target with any of the above permutations easily leads to and/or ends up as sin Anything less than having 3 rights happening at the same time is sinning Samson is chargeable with with #1. Samson tried to kill the Philistines after his hair was shaved by Delilah Adam & Eve controversially are chargeable with with #2. Adam & Eve prematurely ate of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil Moses is chargeable with with #3. Moses hit the rock twice instead of speaking to it as he was commanded to do by God. Incidentally just as in the days of monarchs, when the king's word was law so is God's word is law . . .The Ooni or Queen Elizabeth wouldn't be needing the Senate or Parliament to enact laws back in the day The "Thou shall nots" whether in Eden or Mount Sinai are laws and essentially any transgression of the law(s) (i.e. any violation of a law, command etc) is sin Without a law in Eden, Adam couldn't have possibly sinned . . . Satan lost the love of the law; the Law of God. The word of God Without a law in heaven Satan couldn't have disobeyed and sinned |

So let me get this right:
Pride out of nowhere randomly came to satan's heart and made him sin?
So evil had existed in space previously
but (from the bible historical accounts), on a random day, satan became the first person to randomly fall for the previously existing evil (pride)
and this led to the fall of man?
And also God knew this will happen, but just decided to let it be so he can throw satan to earth,
and then satan will make men sin, and then Jesus will come etc etc.
And who created the evil(pride) that was existing before it "infected" satan?
Did God do that?
Why will God just create evil for no reason?
So before satan fell for pride, were other angels also tempted by various evils and just managed to overcome the temptation?
I need answers. This is a precarious time for my faith.

Christianity Etc › Re: Bible Contradictions: Should Christians Judge Or Not? by e36991: 8:23pm On Mar 28, 2011 |
wetu:
We know that the Bible is the Word of God and God cannot contradict Himself. Why does it appear that there are contradictions in the Bible.
Should Christians judge or not? There are scriptures that seem to suggest that Christians should judge:
A Christian should shun other Christians who are living in sin. To do this requires judgement:
1Co 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. 1Co 5:12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? 1Co 5:13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
Joh 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
We are followers of Jesus. Jesus judged according to the will of God. If we judge for the purposes of fulfilling God's will:
Luk 6:40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
Joh 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.
But there are also scriptures that suggest we should not judge:
Mat 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
Luk 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
If those scriptures mean we should not judge at all, they contradict other biblical principles. The Bible can only contradict itself if we pull verses from it without using supporting scriptures. Supporting scriptures are other scriptures addressing the same subject and the verses surrounding the verse in question (context).
If we look at Matthew 7:1 and Luke 6:37, the context is:
Mat 7:2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. Mat 7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
the problems is not judging but hypocritical judgement. Matthew 7:1-5 can be summarised as follows:
If you judge others, you will also be judged according to the same standard that you set for others. Before you judge, make sure you are not guilty of the same thing you are judging others.
This is supported by other scriptures:
Rom 2:1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
There are three verses in Romans 14 that suggest that we should not judge:
Rom 14:3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
Rom 14:10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
Rom 14:13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
Now we have to take those verses into context. If we refuse to take those verses into context, them we can also take this verse without considering the context:
Rom 14:14 I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
Some Christians could use the above to justify consumption of alcohol, others will use it to justify intimately kissing women they are not married to, others will use it to justify fornication. We should take it into context to avoid confusion.
The context of the whole of Romans 14 is of course judging one another in eating, drinking, doing, watching, celebrating things where the Bible is not clear:
Rom 14:3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
We should not judge each others in matters were God has left it up to our individual conscience:
Rom 14:22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. Rom 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
It's clear that we are to judge because:
There are several commandments that require judgement:
Eph 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
We are to follow Jesus and Jesus judged:
Mat 23:13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
Joh 8:47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
There is no doubt that the bible doesn't contradict itself on this matter. Neither is there any doubt that Christians can judge other Christians if they do it according to the scriptures:
* Do not judge according to the flesh or according to appearance but judge righteous judgement * Do not judge hypocritically * Do not judge in matters of conscience (celebrating birthdays, eating halaal food, watching TV)

Jenwitemi:
Good question.
And taking into consideration that this "disobedience/intransigence" happened in a place in which God is supposed to have absolute control of everything and everyone in it, it beggars the question.
HOW IN HEAVEN, DID LUCIFER MANAGED TO GET CORRUPTED IN A PLACE LIKE HEAVEN, WHERE THERE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ZERO CHANCE OF CORRUPTION?
Afterall, heaven is a perfect and sinless place, right? Or so we are told by all those clueless clergymen.

The fact that Lucifer, as a made in heaven archangel, is not supposed to have been corrupted in a place like heaven to begin with, seems to escape the mind of the average religious person, totally.

@mabellThen Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian - Acts 26:28 KJV After hearing the gospel (i.e. not the wrong gospel), people reject or refuse it, just like Agrippa above, for whatever niggling reason(s) best known to them |

Most Christians today have become dormant and largely to a great extent irrelevant because they have forgotten the great commission
What if the person you are with now is not saved and this may just be the last time you will see him or her
What will you do?
Take a look around you, are you sure you are not having hands full of blood?
@Azibalua True that . . . and we all know why most Christians today have become dormant and largely to a great extent irrelevant . . . or dont we . . . and of course, Yashua anticipated this and gave warnings. Didn't He? |

You mean YOU don't know.
You've made it perfectly clear that you sprout rubbish without being able to back it up with any proof.
You obviously don't know your stuff and depend on wikipedia (which is very often wrong because anyone can edit it).
Frankly it's a waste of my time sharing information with you.
There is evidently something blocking proper facts from getting through to your brain
So if you want to believe that the sky is purple - feel free, I'm done with you.
@Grey BeardPatience is a virtue, go easy with Tpiah! . . . By the way, the long and short of this, is that, one is a "man of God" when one is no longer a man of the world. In this dispensation, a man of God, is one who starts not to conform to this world any more, is transformed by the changing of mind or mindset so that one may be able to determine what God's will is (i.e. what is proper, pleasing and perfect) |

Joagbaje:
James and others were not involved with Jesus in his earthly ministry.
We only knew about their disturbances in his meeting."thy brethren seek thee" and jesus would nit answer them saying "my brethren are those who hear my Words."
Invariably, they were not listening to his tapes. They didn't believe in him as messiah.
John 7:5 5 Even his brothers didn't believe in him.
All these had been oredicted , so It is a fulfilment of prophecies.
Psalm 69:8 8I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children. 9For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up;
After the death of christ, he became converted and also was honoured as head of Jerusalem church .Peter initial position.he was a force in the early church.
Galatians 1:19 19 But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother.
1 Corinthians 9:5 5 Don’t we have the right to take a believing wife along with us, as do the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cephas?
He and his group made paul compromise the gospel by pretending to obey Jewish law and custom.
Acts21:18 18 And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present. 19 And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry. 20 And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law: 21 And they are informed of thee, that thou teachest all the Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs. 22 What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come together: for they will hear that thou art come. 23 Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men which have a vow on them; 24 Them take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges with them, that they may shave their heads: and all may know that those things, whereof they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, and keepest the law. 25 As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.
@^^^ Sweeping up after you and picking up what you dropped You dropped 1 Corinthians 15:7 sire 1 Corinthians 15:7 NLTThen he was seen by James and later by all the apostlesWhy specifically see James first before the apostles? Same reason that made Jesus come through locked doors to see Thomas a week after he said to the disciples: "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it." |

Idi-Amin:
There is this guy that lives close to me in Charlton, London. He goes to oyakhilome's satellite church in South East London here
and has invited me many times, but I am not the religious type and I explained this to him.
I believe in God and serve him in my heart, my own way, I dont think I need to go to church for that.
Now this man is the super-religious born-again type, and you see him sometimes handing out Rhapsody of Realities leaflets to strangers on the street.
I was playing the lottery at out local ASDA supermarket last week, when he walked up to me
He said: Do you know it's against the will of God to be gambling? . .
I expalined to him that I know gambling is bad if you gamble away your rent or money for your family but I am just playing £2 lottery and not gambling my life away and I have a very well-paid job and this £2 will not change my life if I keep it in my pocket. I play it sometimes when I remember, or when I go to the supermarket and see somebody playing, then i decide to play £1 or £2, I doubt if I spend £10 on lottery in a month, and that £10 does not affect me in anyway.
Then he started the fear tactics and said it is not about the amount of money, it is an avenue for the devil to get into my life,
and I could loose my job and the devil will wreck my finances. then he said it is better investment money in the kingdom of God than playing lottery.
All attempts to expalin to this man that I just play lotetry for fun sometimes if I remember to play came to nothing.
He kept saying: IT IS A SIN AGAINST GOD'
So please, fellow Nairalanders, what is your opinion because I dont understand how it is a sin against God for playing a game of chance.
@Idi-AminNo doubt a likely choice foothold for the devil but next when you bump into him, ask him without rhetorics but with scriptures to define sin To state the precise meaning of sin as referenced in the Bible without intimidations |

God never said anyone should fight for him. He commanded we should preach the gospel. A man who insults God lack truth.
And it's the gospel that we need to preach to make known his knowledge . God us not glorified in railing insults on others for him.
The gospel is communicated by love Not JIHAD.
But if someone defends his pastor. It's a natural loyalty thing. If someone insult God, you may not respond to his folly.
But if he insults your mother, there may be a reaction. It's an issue of loyalty. I'm not justifying it. But it's not idolatry .
The disciples carried sword to fight for Jesus. It's a natural fleshly response .
Especially when you know the accusations are unfounded.
@JoagbajeSo "Where is your sword then?" SMH I dont see the connection or relevance of your reference to " disciples carrying swords to fight for Jesus" in this matter . . . so will let it roll as another PROOF TEXT FALLACY |

I don't mean you should ask God, ask different people.
When someone offers to help, be considerate. If the person is buying you food, don't take luxuries. Don't substitute your brother or sister for God.
You need to read the whole post before commenting:
Asking is not the problem, but your fellow brothers and sisters can easily detect the greedy spirit behind you.
This is why they start avoiding you and then you say "Brother Wetu has changed
