Christianity EtcThe Reality Of Satan - His Goal To Kill, Especially, Those Of Faith by e36991(op): 9:29pm On Nov 01, 2010
Satan is a video inspired by C.S. Lewis's "Screwtape Letters,"

where demons strategize at how best to deceive humans.

The author is unknown.

Ads4Christ has simply taken the script and added Biblical commentary at the end.

The messages and images are admittedly disturbing,

but they are nothing compared to the reality of Satan and his goal to kill, especially, those of faith.

Cyprian of Carthage in 251 C.E.:
"And although to all the apostles, after His resurrection, He gives an equal power, and says, “As the Father hath sent me, , , they shall be retained;” (John 20:21-22) yet, He founded a single Chair. That He might set forth unity, He established by His authority the origin of that unity, as having its origin in one man alone. No doubt the others were all that Peter was, but a primacy is given to Peter, and it is thus made clear that there is but one Church and one Chair. So too, even if they are all shepherds, we are shown but one flock which is to be fed by all the apostles in common accord. If a man does not hold fast to this oneness of Peter, does he imagine that he still holds the faith? If he deserts the Chair of Peter upon whom the Church was built, has he confidence that he is in the Church?" (The Unity of the Catholic Church 4)

Eusebius of Caesarea in 312 C.E.:
"As to the rest of his followers, Paul testifies that Crescens was sent to Gaul; but Linus, whom he mentions in the Second Epistle to Timothyas his companion at Rome, was Peter’s successor in the episcopate of the church there, as has already been shown. Clement also, who was appointed third bishop of the church at Rome, was, as Paul testifies, his co-laborer and fellow-soldier." (Church History 3:4:9–10).

Irenaeus in 189 C.E.:
"The very ancient, and universally known Church founded and organized at Rome by the two most glorious apostles, Peter and Paul; ,  The blessed apostles, then, having founded and built up the Church, committed into the hands of Linus the office of the episcopate." (Against Heresies 3:3:2-3)

Patience Johnson - severely burnt

For allegedly pouring hot water on a housewife, eldest son of Sir Shina Peters, the Afro Juju crooner, Seyi Peters, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons, Apapa, Lagos, Nigeria, on the order of a magistrate.

He was arrested by the police at the weekend and charged before the Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on Monday on a one-count charge of pouring hot water on Patience Johnson and injuring her in the process.

Trouble started for the 33-year old Seyi at the weekend when he allegedly carried a pot containing hot water meant to prepare yam flour (amala) at a nearby canteen and poured it on the woman during a scuffle.

Investigations revealed that fighting broke out between the accused, and the victim around 11.30 a.m on the fateful day when the latter asked him to move away from the entrance of her restaurant and bar at 1, College Road, Off Iju Road, Agege, Lagos so that she could open the door.

But the accused who was said to be drinking beer in front of the restaurant refused. In an attempt to drag him away from the entrance, his shirt got torn and fighting ensued.

Seyi allegedly claimed that the torn shirt cost him N25,000 and the restaurant owner must pay for it. Every attempt to move him away from the spot by friends and residents proved abortive.

Police investigations revealed that in annoyance, the accused carried a large pot of boiling water from a nearby canteen and poured it on the victim.

After the act, he ran away on a commercial motorcycle.

He was, however, pursued by the victim’s daughter, Angela Johnson, who wrestled him to the ground and sought help of policemen on patrol.

He was arrested and taken to the Pen Cinema Police Station where he allegedly blamed the devil for his action.

In his statement to the police, he was said to have blamed his stepmother for casting a spell on him.

He was charged to court on a one-count charge of pouring hot water on his victim and causing her bodily harm, an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 335 of the Criminal Code, Cap.C.17, Vol.2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The charge reads: “That you, Seyi Peters, on 23 October, 2010 at about 11.30 a.m at 1, College Road, Ifako, Agege, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did unlawfully wound one Patience Johnson, ‘F’ by pouring unto her body hot water and caused her grievous bodily harm and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 335 of the Criminal Code, Cap C.17, Vol.2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.”

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N250,000 and a surety who must have a house in Lagos with a verifiable address and must be a tax payer.

Following his inability to meet the conditions, the magistrate ordered that he should be remanded at the Kirkiri Maximum Security Prisons. The matter has been adjourned till 24 November, 2010.

His victim, a mother of three, is currently receiving treatment at AB10 Specialist Hospital, College Road, Ogba.

P.M.NEWS visited the hospital and she narrated how the accused attacked her.

Mrs. Johnson disclosed that on that fateful Saturday morning when she got to her shop at about 11 a.m, she met Seyi blocking the entrance to her shop with a chair and two bottles of Gulder in his hands.

“I then asked him to please allow me to open my shop. I want to pray and do other domestic chores but he was adamant. He told me that he will not leave and started hurling abuses at me.

“He called me a silly woman and said that all my daughters are love-peddlers. It was at this stage that somebody who came to buy food beside my shop now told him to leave my shop and asked him what he stands to gain by looking for trouble early that morning. It was after that that he left my shop.

“After I opened the shop, I prayed and picked the broom to sweep my surroundings. While doing this, I decided not to move closer to where he was standing in order to avoid trouble. So, after I finished sweeping, he brought back his chair to my shop and started abusing me again.

“He called me a foolish woman and that he will deal with me mercilessly in his own way. When I did not answer him, he stood up from his chair and started beating me. Since my strength could not match his, I held on to his shirt and he started dragging me about and his shirt got torn. It was at this point that he got angry the more and said he will kill me for tearing his N25,000 shirt,” she narrated.

She told P.M.NEWS further that the accused attacked her with planks inside her shop and he even threatened to pour acid on her.

“I was inside my shop trying to adjust myself when all of a sudden he came with the hot water that the woman selling amala beside my shop wanted to use to prepare amala and poured it on me, ” she added.

Seyi Peters had been disowned by Sina Peters some years ago following his alleged waywardness.

When the Afro-juju creator was contacted over the latest incident, he said he had disowned Seyi long ago and had nothing to do with him.

@e3691

Hope you know it is actually a sin to add or remove from the laws of God,

going by that it is actually those who are making unbiblical claims that it is a sin that are actually sinning.

Ps: kindly note that I am not advocating for polygamous marriage neither do I endorse it, but truth must be told.
@my amiable KunleOshob

I know your stance and do know you were as usual just been pragmatic

". . . sin to add or remove from the laws of God?" Am curious. What is that about?

Are you referring to the 10 commandments (i.e. the Mosaic law) or to the spoken or written word of the King (i.e. these are laws too)

Anyways the fact still remains, just because it aint in the Bible doesnt make the relevant right

Let's flip the coin, shall we . . .

Marrying more than one husband is a sin. If yes, where is it written in the bible. God help us.

We are not under the law

We are at liberty now, isnt it.

Free to do anything but whats the point, not all things are profitable, it's not right so we pass on it.

Forget about theological scholarship and the bible for a sec

Consider if one has the prompting out of the personal relationship one has with God to go for extras

Whats stopping having more than one wife then if one did clearly hear from God

At the end of the day, its a personal judgement call.

Only you can decide to cross that bridge when you get there

No one is going to point out where it is written in the bible if it is a sin or not

Bottom line,

1) Is it the Right thing to do

2) Is it the Right time to do

3) Is one Right with God doing it (i.e. is one on God's right hand side doing it)

If the above three are ticked, concurrently, then one's on a roll for a harem . . .  grin

Marrying more than one wife a sin. If yes were is it writing in de bible. God help us.
KunleOshob:

No biblical evidence to support the notion that it is a sin, on the contrary several men of God in the bible had more than one wife.
@^^^

grin grin grin I laugh in Aramaic  grin grin

Sin is the transgression of the law . . .

most importantly it must be recognised that sin, before the law, had been.

This implies that it is possible to commit sin without violating the law (i.e. 10 commandments)

- All unrighteousness is sin. Whatsoever is not of faith is sin etc etc

grin grin grin No biblical evidence?  grin grin

There are countless wrongs that the law does not address in the bible (i.e. silent about or over)

Just because there are no biblical evidence, doesn't mean this or that is right or agrees with God

Sin in a simplest form is breaking God's perfect standard or given command.

Just like the several men of God in the old testament that married more than one, you have the power and opportunity.

Is it a sin or not?

Well the judgement call is yours. Your cross to bear wink

God has to step out of eternity and take up humanity, to become flesh and blood.

and became the perfect sacrifice for humankind.

2) What is the criteria that permits God to exist or live legally on earth?

3) What status must God have or does God need to legally gain entry on earth?

To become a man.

Understanding these answers paves the way for the foundational & stepping stones to build on to shed light on the evidence of the deity of Christ.

It is a long and painstaking task - Scripture here, with explanations. Scripture there, with explanations.

Back and forth, back and forth like.

Questioning to a void or better still until arriving at answers

These snippets John 1:1;3-5; 9-15 & 18 are very profound

John 1:1;3-5; 9-15 & 18 KJV:
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God

3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made

4In him was life; and the life was the light of men

5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

9[That] was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world

10He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not

11He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God

14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

15John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me

18No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him].
John was the only disciple that had this great & deep understanding of the deity of Jesus enough to express it distinctly the way he did in John 1

Just prior to Jesus' death, John was the only person & disciple that Jesus trusted enough to hand over His mother to.

These observations got me wondering.

Why?

Why and how did John receive these thoughtful revelations? (i.e. these here and those whilst on the Island of Patmos)

Why and how did John gain Jesus' trust to have the privilege to look after His mother for Him?

The answer was right in my face. Guessed right. Yup, in the scripture.

OLAADEGBU:
Please, don't break record o tongue

Your POTUS (crude and constricting parallel) reveals where you are coming from and where you are at.

This is the evidence of the POTUS parallel you made.

The difference is that kola Olaoye is one being in different capacities while God is three distinct and separate persons (The Lord God, the Messiah and the Holy Spirit). See God in action in this verse in Matthew 3:16,17:

"And Jesus, when He was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

When the Bible says the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters then I take it that He moved upon the waters, you are entitled to any meaning you want to give it.  The Holy Spirit has all the qualities of God and that is why He is God.

All these questions can be answered in a separate thread as I would not like to divert the issue at hand

Derek Prince, in his book, Atonement.  Shed more light on how the Trinity was at work in every major phase of the redemption, that each of the Godhead is directly involved:
[li]Incarnation.  The Father incarnated the Son in the womb of Mary by the Holy Spirit. (Lk.1:35).[/li]

[li]Baptism in the Jordan River.  The Spirit descended on the Son, and the Father spoke His approval from heaven (Matt.3:14-17).[/li]

[li]Public ministry.  The Father anointed the Son with the Spirit (Acts 10:38).[/li]

[li]The crucifixion.  Jesus offered Himself to the Father through the Spirit (Heb.9:14).[/li]

[li]The resurrection.  The Father resurrected the Son by the Spirit (Acts 2:32; Rom.1:4).[/li]

[li]Pentecost.  From the Father the Son received the Spirit, whom He then poured out on His disciples (Acts 2:33).[/li]
Each Person of the Godhead -- and I mean this reverently -- was jealous to be included in the process of redeeming humanity."  -- Derek Prince, Atonement

Therefore, God does not refer to 3 manifestations of one person or one being but of 3 separate Persons in perfect unity.

I suppose you understand I agree with you on all your counts concerning this subject matter (i.e. the Deity of Jesus)

I also hope you understand that the POTUS analogy was a "means to an end" albeit a crude, limiting & constricting one to lead to, likely slowly, further unravelling and explaining the evidence of the deity of Christ.

3) God the Son
4) God the Holy Spirit

I would say, GOD?

In a like manner what came first

1) Kola Olaoye
2) Kola Olaoye the husband
3) Kola Olaoye the father

I would say, Kola Olaoye?

Kola Olaoye=the husband=the father=Kola Olaoye isnt it?

Kola Olaoye the husband had always been in Kola Olaoye

Kola Olaoye the father had always been in Kola Olaoye

Likewise

GOD=God the Father=God the Son=God the Holy Spirit=GOD

God the Father had always been in God and vice versa

God the Son had always been in God and vice versa

God the Holy Spirit had always been in God and vice versa

Holy Spirit? Oh! Holy = Complete; the whole Spirit

Do we know which Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters?

Was it the the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge etc etc?

Moving swiftly on. Now question, if God is Spirit

1) How without usurping, can God legally operate on earth?

2) What is the criteria that permits God to exist or live legally on earth?

3) What status must God have or does God need to legally gain entry on earth?

Answers to the above will likely shed some light on or reveal some of the Evidence Of The Deity Of Christ and the relevance of God the Son

If my answer would bring solution to the issue at hand - no qualms grin

Is GOD omnipotent?
YES

Is anything impossible for GOD?
Yes, He cannot lie and he cannot die.

Is it beyond GOD to be in two places at the same time?
He is everywhere at the same time.

Are you married?
Yes. I have 3 wives before I left Islam grin

Are you a father?
YES, to the glory of God,7 children grin

Now it is time for you to put the last nail.

I'm waiting.
@kola oloye

Thanks for the responses. Very nice and more

Last nail?

Isn't it a bit too early for the coup de grâce at this stage

Where is the binary response to "Is it beyond GOD to be in two places at the same time?"

Where is the Yes or  No in "He is everywhere at the same time."

Please note there are distinctions in:

Would not lie and cannot lie

Would not die and cannot die

"Paadi mi ma bu iyan Oloun kere now" - Literally dont short change GOD, give Him more credit

GOD can do anything.

GOD can sin but wouldnt sin.

GOD can lie but wouldnt lie.

GOD can die, but oops! hey He's already demonstrated that through God the Son, Jesus

For sake of an illustration,

Take Kola Olaoye, Kola Olaoye the father, Kola Olaoye the husband, Kola Olaoye the son etc etc

At least so far, three different personalities. Yeah? Right?

But one Kola Olaoye. Right?

All equal because they all are Kola Olaoye albeit with different authorities/jurisdictions

And this is you, if a mere mortal like you is displaying these. What can we say of GOD . . .

Lets chew on that for now . . .

I appreciate your supporting posts here and your help in the past.

My contention about the POTUS' analogy was that it gives those who struggle with the doctrine of trinity a reason to doubt it.

I know that you and Davidylan believes that God is One Person manifesting in three different capacities

but this is different from what I understand about the Godhead, which is three Personalities sharing the same essence.

That the Father is not the Son and the Son is not the Holy Spirit but they are all One God.
@OLAADEGBU

True about the three Personalities sharing the same essence. I agree with that . . .

Those three Personalities are what have been revealed to us up until now. There could be more to GOD that this. we dont know for sure . . .

In order to give this its due justice I need to Brb to continue later . . .

Please don't get me confused.

If you have God the Son, it means you have God the father and God the Holy spirit, right?

How many gods do we have then if not three?

As for me, I know and I believe there is only one God.

Jesus is the Son of the Most High God, Jehovah.

The Holy Spirit is the Comforter dwelling within us.

Anything aside this is arrant rubbish.
@kola oloye

I knew you'll come out with the above  grin

I too believe there is only one GOD

and true that, Jesus is, the Son of the Most High

Also true that, the Holy Spirit is the Comforter dwelling within us

So where is the problem

Let me re-run this by you again

Is GOD omnipotent?

Is anything impossible for GOD?

Is it beyond GOD to be in two places at the same time?

Are you married?

Are you a father?

Please give me the answer to these four questions for a start

Jesus is the Christ, the redeemer. I don't believe in 3 gods.

I don't care how anybody feels about the truth.

God cannot be killed. The fact that someone said something does not make it right.

Someone looong time ago said the the Earth was flat but what do we have now.

Someone has to check every opinion and be very sure of it.

Wait, what do you think would happen if you burn a transformer of any equipment in your home?

Definitely the thing ceased working and you need the service of an electrician or an expert to fix it for you.

If God actually died, then who made the resurrection possible for him?

You should also be able to tell me what God was trying to prove and to who by allowing himself to be killed by what he created?

God crying on the cross to himself for his own mercy?

Common use your head.

On JOHN 3:16 I stand.
@kola oloye

Hope you dont get messed up with the theology

GOD is omnipotent. All powerful. Right?

Is it impossible for GOD to be in two places at the same time?

If God actually died? - God didnt die, it's Jesus God the Son that died

Who made the resurrection? - God the Father. The one that has power over life & death

God crying? - Bible 101 - GOD is not man or a son of man. GOD hasnt got hang-ups with crying especially when it comes down to saving butt$

Crying is a small price to pay for countless bacons that will be saved

I have been considering Desmond Tutu's stand on homosexuality,

I had always felt it was unnatural and should be prohibited.

Taking an anarchist's scale that no man has any right over another man,

and the fact that it lays no harm for the general society, why then bother about what the man does in his privacy.

I would not want any one placing any sanctions for my lack of religion!

Though I find it very unpleasant, I think is one of endurance of another's freedom as consequence of enjoying one's own freedom.

What's your take on this. . .

I am not too sure about your analogy of the POTUS but let me use one stone to kill two three birds.  wink

What does it mean to call Jesus the Son of God?

Does the title applied to Jesus, Son of God, imply that He is different than God? No.

Jesus is the only begotten Son of God (John 3:16), while Christians are adopted sons of God (Romans 8:15-17).

Christians are called adopted sons of God because we are different from God and must become His children (hence, adopted, not begotten).

Jesus is not called adopted because He never became God's Son, but has always been God's Son. Calling Jesus the only begotten Son of God means that He is of the same nature as God, not a different nature, as C.S. Lewis explains:

"To beget is to become the father of: to create is to make.  And the difference is this.  When you beget, you beget something of the same kind as yourself.  A man begets human babies, a beaver begets little beavers, But when you make, you make something of a different kind from yourself.  A bird makes a nest, a beaver builds a dam . . .  Now that is the first thing to get clear.  What God begets is God; just as what man begets is man.  What God creates is not God, just as what man makes is not man.  That is why men are not Sons of God in the sense that Christ is.  They may be like God in certain ways, but they are not things of the same kind."

There is a clear distinction between making and begetting, that is, you cannot make what you beget.  What you make is different from yourself, what you beget has your nature.

Therefore to call Jesus the only begotten Son is to say that He has God's nature and was not made.  Since He has God's nature, He is, by definition, God and therefore eternal.  If Jesus was created by God, He could not have been begotten, and John 3:16; 1:18, 1 John 4:9, etc. are in error.

Therefore, when the Bible says that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God, it means that Jesus is equal to God, not less than God. QED
@OLAADEGBU

I couldnt help not visualising you been very pleased with yourself just like the proverbial cat that got the cream

QED? pfft  grin  wink

My post was submitted in a supporting and not countering role in any shape or form to yours

The analogy with POTUS was as already stated at the beginning a

" . . . a crude constrating and constraining parallel - Obama Barack cant do the impossible"

Instead of questioning the analogy to flesh out more information you opted for assumptions a few too many

God has always been God. Think of progression. Think of relationship. Think of over time

God was God before He became God the Father or God the Son

Did Abraham know God as God the Father? No but rather God said Abraham is my a friend

The POTUS analogy was hoping to illustrate the oneness of God

A state or condition of unity and perfect harmony or accord of the Godhead

The POTUS is not superman talkess God so rendering the analogy to certain degrees limiting

It is a home run, if one can grasp the singleness of Barack Obama in all his different personages note importanty Barack Obama and not the POTUS

No doubt all the personages in the "Barack Obama hood" are equal but in certain circumstances one is powerful than the other.

In certain circumstances one is greater than the other or has more authority than the other. Irony? Paradox?

Barack Obama, concerning the East bloc, makes decisions as the POTUS and not as Barack Obama the husband - Michelle's other half

John 5:30 GOD'S WORD Translation:
I can't do anything on my own.

As I listen [to the Father], I make my judgments.

My judgments are right because I don't try to do what I want but what the one who sent me wants.
I am not loosing sleeping over the Godhood or my theology and also have no qualms with the biography and deity of Jesus

Are you not confused or confusing yourself Kola?

You say you do not accept what others say about Jesus but what Jesus said about himself.

Please tell me/us which book Jesus personally wrote by himself in the bible.

The portions you choose to believe;quotations of Christ (which you refer to as "Let us hear from the Lord himself"wink, were they written by Christ?

Were they not still written by some other person other than Christ?

Does that not put such quotations in the same standing as those quotations in the book of Revelation which you choose not to accept?

Why believe one part and disbelieve others?
@ttalks

We will be waiting in vain for Kola Oloye to point out the book Jesus personally wrote because no book exists

The only writing Jesus did for reasons known to him was done in sands!

That writing didnt last the light of the day. It's been blown away centuries ago grin

The closest and a consolation would be the Ten commandments written with the finger of God  wink

On a serious note, I think this is an acquired stance adopted by Kola Oloye over a period of time after joining NL

This was likely influenced by certain contributors' submission(s) read here in NL.

I have my suspicions but I am keeping my card close to my chest out of view.

OLAADEGBU:
Some cults and false religions argue that because Jesus said the Father is "greater" than Him (John 14:28), this must mean Jesus is a lesser God.

Biblically, however, Jesus is equal with the Father in His divine nature (John 10:30).

He was positionally lower than the Father from the standpoint of His becoming a servant by taking on human likeness (Philipians 2:6-11).

Positionally, then, the Father was "greater" than Jesus.
@ ^^^

Here is a crude constrating and constraining parallel - Obama Barack cant do the impossible

Nevertheless, there is only one Barack Obama. Right?

He came on the scene named Barack Obama!. Over the period of time we have:

Barack Obama the son, Barack Obama the man, Barack Obama the husband, Barack Obama the father, etc etc on to Barack Obama the President. Right?

One Barack Obama but different Obama Barack persons or different personalities. Right?

Now Barack Obama Michelle's husband is the same and equal to Barack Obama the President of the US. Right?

But Barack Obama the President is the most powerful man on earth and not Barack Obama Michelle's husband. Right?

Barack Obama the President makes speeches on the world stage and not Barack Obama Michelle's husband. Right?

Behind closed doors Barack Obama the President retires to been Barack Obama Michelle's husband. Right?

Positionally or status-wise, there is one Barack Obama whether in a capacity as the husband, father, son, President etc

Barack Obama the father, the President are one
