deeobserver209: Exactly. Considering the rate of interest and the fluctuations in monetary policy of the country, coupled with inconsistencies in policy implementation, getting loans for the sake of infrastructure is a bad idea especially when dealing with long term loan facilities.I am so glad you are seeing beyond the immediate here. |
biafrandream: Please can you vouch that those Imo contractors were fully paid, or was it a case of asking someone to sign that he received 1 million naira while you actually paid him 1 thousand naira. That's where the issue lies. Okorocha said that one of the contractors ran away with 3 billion naira and refused to do the job, but if you investigate the allegation properly, you will be shocked at your discovery. Our people are not as bad as we portray them, only if we can set the same standard as the white/asian people.Asides that I think some of them actually underquoted their bills to secure the contracts. Apart from a few established ones, local contractors tend to have this feeling that they are getting a slice of the state cake. And most of them are fronts for politicians. As far as certain road construction projects go, getting the job done professionally is the lesser sacrifice. |
dalu: history taking has nothing to do with lab tests sir !Yes that is what I was trying to tell him |
biafrandream: To my mind, what the next governor should concentrate on is keeping Enugu clean, creation of jobs through establishment of cottage industries and massive investment in agriculture and education. Also I don't like the idea of giving the contract of building roads to Arab contrators because it engenders capital flight. Even the Enugu lifestyle and golf city is being handled by a foreign firm. If the contracts were awarded to local contractors, we would have killed 2 birds with a stone, developing our land and creating of indigenous millionaires. I think that's an area Sullivan has not done well. Our local engineers should be used in doing those jobs even if the government decides to make use of direct labour. This was one area Chimaroke did a good job. I think that poverty multiplied under Sullivan because all juicy jobs were given to foreigners.IMO state did it and paid dearly, they are still paying for it with very substandard road projects. You need a very robust and sincere ministry and governor to chase local contractors around, it is the unfortunate truth. Arab contractors can be "nationalised" like JB, into Arab contractors Nigeria with Nigerians having a stake. The life style and golf city is a PPP and the foreigners are also investing their money. |
rhymz: What a very misleading claim. Very misleading. The so-called medical history is mostly results from lab tests the doctor use in evaluating the patient. There is no such thing as a medical history without proper lab tests and results from such. So please slow your roll, everyone is equally as important don't try to make it look like a doctor is the alpha and omega in the treatment of patients, they won't even work without confirmations from lab test results. You obviously do not know what you are talking about or are exaggerating the importance of a doc. ![]() Really? ![]() You veered way off from reality. Are you really a healthworker ![]() |

Sloothe: The thing is I hope to restore this thread but as my personal confession, it is quite difficult keeping up with it particularly when one seldomly visits the city. It has been a bit of relief but certainly, the many pictures cannot be for my tab view alone. That will be a waste. I will upload all the pictures again in my much freer period. I can assure MizzD and ThinkOyo will put up hers too. I implore others to please reconsider and join.Way to go. It was actually a nice thread. |
collynzo2: This shows the difference between the bouncebackability of Igbos and the docile nature of Yorubas.loool! This is funny no offense. |
Idrismusty97: And of the highest 10, two are in the North and only one in the Landlocked region. Surprisingly, those two are not oil producing States.I hope you realise you haven't made any point. |
macnwaobi2: Is that an ash tray on the table? Is the white powder beside it cocaine ? |
HappyJoe: My problem with Enugu politics is pettiness.I find that very perplexing. IGBOSON1: ^^^That hotel is a sad metaphor for all that is wrong with governance and administration in this country: mismanagement and lack of maintenance of public property! IGBOSON1: ^^^That hotel is a sad metaphor for all that is wrong with governance and administration in this country: mismanagement and lack of maintenance of public property! The hotel was run down by extremely poor and corrupt management over the years. Nike lake was salvaged because it was handed over to Protea at a point in time. |

jagaban1: IT'S THOSE INFRASTRUCTURE YOUR FELLOW HEADS SAW THAT MADE THEM TO COME DOWN IN MASS TO SOUTH WEST TO SURVIVE, HUSTLE..Obviously Abia state governor is a failure. However, an even more devastating situation is looming where these state governments accrue bad debts up to the point that they are unable to function, in other words they become mere liabilities to the FG. One has to balance revenue with debt. By investing in infrastructure that can yield revenue. Not just shallow "wonder" projects. |
ChimaAdeoye: Stop using the word balkanization, the right word is re-organization to achieve equal representation.I understand, it is only my opinion which is not exclusive to the SE but the country as a whole. That is why I support Anioma being created and added to the SE. What will fix some of the anomalies is an accurate census. |
OP excellent analysis, however your motive will be misunderstood. E.g is Peter Obi who invested in revenue generating enterprises whose returns are now being ploughed back into the economy. Of course he had a lot of shortcomings but debt isn't one of them. Bad examples abound. From Fashola to Aregbesola If the states do not invest in revenue generation then they will keep coming cap in hand. |
Nice pics. Heard the centre will be hosting the NBA. |
passion007: I'm often surprised when Igbos kick against state creation in today's Nigeria. For one thing, state creation will bring development nearer the grassroots. Anioma will pay better attention to Asaba, Adada will pay better attention to Nsukka and so on. Unfortunately, regionalism is dead... the confab also made no effort to resurrect it. In Nigeria of today, how much you get and how much weight you throw around ultimately depends on how many states you have. That's why the NW can bully the rest of the zones. And the homogenous SW with 6 states has a decided political advantage.I am also against further balkanization. Apparently this is not a very popular opinion, but my reasons are that we also need to build economically viable states. Remember governance in Nigeria is expensive and state creation will astronomically increase recurrent expenditure which may not necessarily be balanced by revenue generated by the new state, this will only put further strain on our economy. LG tier of government is moribund in most states so if you have a corrupt state governor, the state is gone and the grass root development is thrown out the window. I am for creation of Anioma state and tagging it a SE state. |

phantom: Late Patrick Sawyer was rushed to First Consultant Hospital, Lagos, on arrival. It was reported that Sawyer was initially assessed and treated for malaria, hepatitis, etc. The assessment and diagnosis of Ebola came later. The junior and senior doctors that managed Sawyer at the First Consultant Hospital FAILED at this level. With history of acute fever (plus other symptoms) and recent arrival from Liberia, the diagnosis at presentation ought to have been ebola viral disease (EVD) UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE.Thank you. |
Late Patrick Sawyer was rushed to First Consultant Hospital, Lagos, on arrival. The junior and senior doctors that managed Sawyer at the First Consultant Hospital FAILED at this level. With history of acute fever (plus other symptoms) and recent arrival from Liberia, the diagnosis at presentation ought to have been ebola viral disease (EVD) UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE. ABSOLUTELY NOT Patrick Sawyer COMPLETELY denied a history of contact with an Ebola patient, the most important lead in clenching the diagnosis in the absence of specific symptoms. He was NOT showing any SPECIFIC symptoms of Ebola on arrival, irrespective of that, the managing medical team treated him with a high index of suspicion and insisted on testing him based on his travel history, I can tell you that the diagnosis would have been completely missed if he had gone to a less professional place with more catastrophic consequences. Patrick Sawyer deliberately endangered the lives of the medical personnel by withholding information and spraying them with contaminated body fluids. The rest of what you wrote is OK. |
