PoliticsRe: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by eaglechild: 11:16pm On Aug 16, 2013
passion007: Enugu vs Anambra tussle dates way back, and has continued owing to the tendency of the supposedly enlightened individuals to adduce character stereotypes for other people: Anam people are backwards-thinking, Nsukka people are primitive, Onitcha people are arrogant, Udi people are ill-mannered and on and on. How in Gods name do you think you can define a thousand persons with a single character sketch?! That is simply intellectual laziness! I have actually paid disinterested attention to Ozodi Osuji's essays and it's easy to argue with him, he too has a fundamental flaw: his tendency to rely on stereotypes. That is the basis of our problem. The day we abandon this tendency to fit a group of people into a character stereotype, then we might as well begin to understand ourselves. I grew up in Enugu and the family next door were from Owerri (Umunjanwoke) yet they are the nicest family I have ever known. The mother would often take me and her kids to Polo Park or the Zoo or Nnaji Park in New Haven. She took me to work (Immigration) one time just so I would see what a computer looked like). She encouraged me to sit for the Shell scholarship exam-and I was successful. My mother (her landlady) would reciprocate by sending their family 'ofe akwu' or 'abacha' or driving her children and I to Obiagu (reputed to have several masquerades at Christmastime). My parents own two blocks of 15 flats in Enugu and these are the families I grew up with: 1 Delta family, 1 Abia family, 1 Ebonyi family, 4 Anambra families, 4 Enugu families, 3 Imo families.
There wasn't even the slightest misunderstanding between these families. We grew up like brothers and sisters. I had a remarkable childhood, and I grew up very fit for society, and I won't let some silly internet trolls attempt to rewrite the best times of my life by attempting to tell me the Echetebus and Obis from Awka and Agulu respectively are selfish and insolent or that the Akpaenyis and Nwatus from Ezeagu and Nkanu are duplicitous and overbearing Or that the Orjis from Ohaozara had other motives (That family cherished nothing more than discipline, and their finesse was enviable). The first 18 years of my life was spent with these 14 families who loved me and whom I loved.

Enugu continues to be the melting point for all Igbo people, and continues to evolve a newer generation of Igbos so please kindly sheathe your swords and desist from saying a bad word against your brother. The first time I visited the State library (a treasure I discovered thanks to the Ebonyi family), I read this wise saying from an American text: 'a good thought produces a good word, a good word produces a good feeling, a good feeling between us leads to love and peace.

Conversely, an evil thought produces an evil word, an evil word produces an evil feeling, an evil feeling between us leads to...
Hate, Strife, War, Disrespect etc
Very well said.
We must continue to strive for unity.
There will be misunderstandings but we must focus on what unites us.
Enugu is blessed with natural beauty and accommodating people.
No 'state' is perfect we must emphasize the good qualities that unite us.

mmmustapha: Dis city is a village compare with port hercourt or kaduna
You have a very skewed conception of what a good city is.
A city is not necessarily a contraption of over populated settlements with haphazard buildings.

tawa89: why are you this hateful and tribal? Why good things dey pepper you for body ni? Why is it that you hate it when good things are happening in other parts of the country? This is beyond politics and tribalism. This is pure hatred for Nigeria. you are pissed that other parts of Nigeria are developing? Let me educate you a little . Lagos has been there even before the 'word' Nigeria was muted. Lagos has enjoyed special priviledges even before our independence. Lagos was federal colony . Lagos was capital territory for more dan 30 yrs. Lagos was the seat of power in Nigeria. How can you compare Lagos that has been everything in Nigeria with Uyo that has been nothing? One was a former colony, former capital and economic hub of Nigeria while the other was a former 'village' . If e dy pain cos of d developmental strides in Akwa Ibom kindly trek down to 3rd mainland bridge and do the needful.
Intense and well delivered.

A country puts more emphasis on tribe than merit can never work.
- A country that will rather admit someone with a score of 2 and leave another with a score of 130 is headed for destruction.
- A country that will rather recruit illiterates into its armed forces for uniformity sake can never work
-A country that deports its citizens can never work.
-A country whose states cannot employ non indegenes is just a joke.

Tundeolaniyi: Igbo are like 99% Christians that is they bear more of English names. I got to know about it when first got to the east. I have even been paying some guys to teach ibo language because it will help to know whats up. I have learned some. They made caricature of my name 'Olaniyi' initially, they said that it meant 'wasted person' in ibo language. Since then I don't usually say it openly.

PoliticsRe: Lagos Reunites 46 With Their Relations In Osun by eaglechild: 9:29am On Aug 09, 2013
Tundeolaniyi: Am yoruba full blooded. Is what you mean by civilization the mud houses dotting the entire landscape of yorubaland? Let the truth be told. Remove lagos from SW, then yorubaland becomes leprous, nobody will not have anything to associate with because it will only epitomize poverty and plague. The only reason people comes to SW is because of lagos, we all know that lagos is not the making of yorubas. Let me tell you, a typical yoruba city like ibadan, abeokuta, ado ekiti, osogbo is so so backward, poverty stricken, no investment, no job. Am sorry I have to say this truth. All these yoruba cities I mentioned cannot stand side by side with places as Onitsha, Enugu, Owerri, Calabar, Akwaibo even Yenogoa. My problem is that we yorubas are always okay with little the government and individuals have done, that is why no new thing is coming except for the mud houses built 50yrs ago.
The 'sad' truth

Thanks for being honest

0monnakoda: I really don't think many Ibos understand how much this issue has provoked the Yoruba. Basically many Yorubas now believe the Ibo are telling us we are prepared to contend Lagos with you and you cannot do anything about it. The consequences will be devastating . I wonder why these guys like to score own goals?
I don't get you really.
History tells me Lagos is the former capital of Nigeria and till today maintains heavy federal government presence.
So it's very myopic of you to say people are trying to claim it.
90% or more of the basic infrastructure was done by the FG so what's your point.
The state govt is basically maintaining and upgrading some.
You don't see anyone discussing Oshuogbo or adoekiti.
You are the one who needs to remove the scales in your brain and reason well.
