The North as a result of the influence of religion, emphasised Koranic education as opposed to western education, which is why it is quite difficult to find a northern muslim child without Koranic education. This is a major reason why it is not at par educationally with other regions, which were also influenced by a different religion that promoted a different kind of education (missionaries that established western schools).

If that system was not balanced, the south would have dominated the north due to that imbalance in educational penetration.

In a bid to "balance" the inequality we have ended up with a very skewed system that has sacrificed meritocracy and further deepened the ethnic divide.

If the system was allowed evolve naturally every region would have built on its strong points.

The quota system is one of the strongest factors that has prevented Nigeria from developing.

A self mutilating system that encourages weakness and mediocrity while stifling hard work.

What it has led to is a society that has thrown meritocracy under the bus.

Imagine the bitterness in the heart of that Anambra state primary six pupil who has laboured all night to score 130 in common entrance only to be told that he cannot get in because his slot has been taken by a Katsina state pupil who scored 10.

That same Katsina student will use his JAMB quota to gain admission into a university with a score of 30.

Then go ahead and get employed in a federal parastatal with his quota slot, rise through the ranks and become a director that will head a ministry he knows nothing about therefore running it to the ground.

APC is really working hard at getting bogus and meaningless endorsements.

I always laugh when people think that an Igbo presidency is the messianic answer to all Igbo problems.

It is not and Igbos have long realised that.

Igbos have not been president in any democracy but they still have some of the best indices in all facets of human endeavor from education to health to economy.

Those who have held unto power the longest have the poorest masses with politico religious unrest and gross inequalities between the elites and masses.

So telling Igbo to align with APC because it gives them the best shot at presidency in the unknown future is a very lame and laughable ideology.

GEJ is used to criticism and has proved that unlike Obasanjo, he isn't interested in assasinating political opponents or critics.
If anyone would want to kill Father Mbaka now, it is APC and their agents in order to score points.
GEJ cannot be foolish enough to send people after than man's life knowing the effect such an action would have.
If anything, the President should beef up Mbaka's security now. APC are dangerous and can do anything to get that power. If they can ride on boko haram's back despite the thousands they have killed, Mbaka is too small for them.

I live in Enugu and can categorically and proudly state here that for over 6 months my family and I have been eating completely destoned local Abakaliki rice. It is nutritious and tasty. It cooks fast too. In fact though there is Ebony gold the locally made polished rice, but I still prefer the unpolished variety. The first time I cooked it nobody even noticed the difference.

It seems not so many people are aware of the availability of good quality destoned Abakaliki rice.

It tastes way better than the foreign rice and is healthier too.

I even think it is becoming more expensive now than the imported rice.

Hello friend, people go above 190km/hr on Benin bypass going towards Warri interchange . You can also do well above 170km/hr on Benin Warri Highway. My own least cruising speed on these roads over a period of 5 years that I worked in Warri and shuttled from IB was 160km/hr. Sure you won't believe that I once got dusted at 200km/hr by a biker on Akure-Ilesha Highway? Mind you, this was on the single carriageway portion about 2 years ago. I regularly chased the particular group of bikers in question. On Ilesha dual carriageway up till Oduduwa University roundabout near Ife, you can enjoy your car steady at slightly above 200km/hr. FYI I did all of this in[b] a Maxima [/b]that I bought here on Nairaland in Feb 2010 from "Arnold.... .? " I changed oil/tyres etc at less than 1/2 the due periods though. In conclusion, as someone said earlier, Nigerian roads are not as bad as to limit us to a meager 145kmph

I have done something similar in a maxima without stress (that car handles excellently for a non luxury japanese) some time in the past but i will not try it again.

As much as i believe PDP has become nosey and constantly jerking off on APC internal issues, i believe there's a fundamental problem with some tatcics that APC has been employing for some time now and that might hit them hard. I'm not an APC fan but i just want them to get certain things right and one very imperative variable that they have failed to find answers to is getting a popular running mate. No, Doubt, Buhari is popular in the North. He may even be the most popular man right now in the north, so we expect him to sweep the polls in the North east and North west and possibly get some sprinkle of votes in the North Central and that's exactly what he did the last time and still lost because not matter how popular you are in the north, if you can't win states in the south then you can't be Nigeria's president. What APC had to do was to get an equally popular southerner to run with Buhari and not an Osibanjo who has little or no political pedigree. If was the same mistake they made when they presented Ribadu with a Fola Adeola. Like seriously, are this people sick in the head or just playing games with an ambition i feel they're desperate about. Whatever happened to Oshiomole, Rochas or an Amaechi? Don't get me wrong, Osibanjo is probably more competent than these folks but if it was just about competence then fashola should have gotten the ticket above Buhari. So, right now it's about winning an election and they have to take advantage of everything available to them withing the law to do so.

I don't know how this election will turn out. I definitely believe that Buhari will do way better than he has done in the past but whether it will be enough for him to win is a question that i can't answer.

On the election outcome my fear is the outcome of Buhari's loss because it is obvious he will lose.
Only that with the level of delusion his supporters are displaying they may take it up another notch to violence as they did in the past.
