PoliticsRe: Osinbajo Can't Win South West For APC - PDP by eaglechild: 9:49pm On Jan 02, 2015
Afam4eva:
As much as i believe PDP has become nosey and constantly jerking off on APC internal issues, i believe there's a fundamental problem with some tatcics that APC has been employing for some time now and that might hit them hard. I'm not an APC fan but i just want them to get certain things right and one very imperative variable that they have failed to find answers to is getting a popular running mate. No, Doubt, Buhari is popular in the North. He may even be the most popular man right now in the north, so we expect him to sweep the polls in the North east and North west and possibly get some sprinkle of votes in the North Central and that's exactly what he did the last time and still lost because not matter how popular you are in the north, if you can't win states in the south then you can't be Nigeria's president. What APC had to do was to get an equally popular southerner to run with Buhari and not an Osibanjo who has little or no political pedigree. If was the same mistake they made when they presented Ribadu with a Fola Adeola. Like seriously, are this people sick in the head or just playing games with an ambition i feel they're desperate about. Whatever happened to Oshiomole, Rochas or an Amaechi? Don't get me wrong, Osibanjo is probably more competent than these folks but if it was just about competence then fashola should have gotten the ticket above Buhari. So, right now it's about winning an election and they have to take advantage of everything available to them withing the law to do so.

I don't know how this election will turn out. I definitely believe that Buhari will do way better than he has done in the past but whether it will be enough for him to win is a question that i can't answer.
Exactly, i mean why not even field Fashola ahead of Osibanjo or is he too big for VPship?

On the election outcome my fear is the outcome of Buhari's loss because it is obvious he will lose.
Only that with the level of delusion his supporters are displaying they may take it up another notch to violence as they did in the past.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria History with the "Organization Of Islamic Conference (oic)" by eaglechild: 9:37pm On Jan 02, 2015
Rexyl:
Someone raised the followings where sharia is fully practiced. I wonder how such practices could honour fundamental human rights

Highlights of Sharia Laws. The question is are u ready to sacrifice your freedom and religion.

Christians can’t build new churches or renovate old ones,no ringing of church bells but Muslims can do what they want.

You can’t marry a Muslim girl as a Christian else you must convert to Islam. But Muslim men can marry Christian girls without converting.

If a Muslim kills another Muslims by mistake, he pays a certain amount of money as fine. But when he kills a Christian by mistake, he pays half the stipulated amount of money and the only reason is that Christians are infidel and not equal to Muslims

You can’t openly show your Bible in public, you can’t preach, u can’t share church fliers or say anything about church on any form of media.but Muslims can preach on TV and any media of choice.

Weekends are Friday and Saturday. Sunday is the beginning of a working week. Christmas and Easter celebrations are forbidden and no official break. You are forced to fast along Muslims

When you take a case to court, a judge will not hear your case until you say (you believe in oneness of Allah and prophet Muhammad is his messenger) even when they know your a Christian.

Any form of derogatory words against Allah, Muhammad, or Koran is punishable by death penalty.

You can’t hold any official post as a Christian were Muslims will be under you. It’s a taboo and it’s forbidden. But rather you must work under Muslims.

The list is numerous and that’s Sharia. In those countries, they have been able to subjugate all non Muslims and that’s why there is relative peace. If you are OK with such inhuman treatment, I am not.
Reading this sends chills down my spine.

Is this the kind of Nigeria we want to build under Buhari, with the proliferation of Sharia law in a secular country thereby subjugation all non Muslims in the states where it is practiced?

We must look before we leap.

THANK YOU FOR THE ENLIGHTENMENT SIR . WITH ALL DUE RESPECT ,I WOULD LIKE TO ASK YOU A FEW QUESTIONS ... FIRST QUESTION FOR YOU IS WHAT CAR DO YOU DRIVE AND DID YOU BUY IT BRAND NEW huhhuhhuhhuhhuh WHY DIDNT YOU BUY INNOSON OR THE NIGERIAN MADE CARS ?

SECOND QUESTION- WHAT % OF NIGERIANS CAN AFFORD A 5 YR OLD TOKUNBO CAR TALK LESS OF A BRAND NEW ? THERE IS MASSIVE SUFFERING WHERE PEOPLE CANT EVEN AFFORD TO EAT 3 GOOD MEALS A DAY AND YOU THINK THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN MAKE LIFE BETTER FOR THEM IS TO INFLICT MORE SUFFERING BY ADDING MORE TO THEIR UNSOLVED PROBLEMS ?

NOW LETS LOOK AT IT THIS WAY .... YOU ARE A CIVIL SERVANT AND YOU EARN 40,000 NAIRA MONTHLY AND A LOT OF CIVIL SERVANTS EARN WAY LESS THAN THAT WHICH ISNT STILL ENOUGH TO CATER FOR YOU ALONE TALK LESS OF YOUR FAMILY ,RENT , BASIC AMENITIES, CHILDREN SCHOOL FEES (VERY EXORBITANT THESE DAYS ) AND ETC . CAN YOU TAKE OUT 37,000 NAIRA FROM YOUR SALARY FOR AN AUTO LOAN ? ANSWER IS NO

#2. THERE IS NO BLACK MARKET FOR THE NIGERIAN MADE CAR PARTS YET SO GETTING REPLACEMENT PARTS WILL BE VERY EXPENSIVE UNLIKE USING A TOYOTA, HONDA ETC THAT YOU CAN GET AT IKEJA, LADIPO, ALABA AND ETC ETC.

#3. THE MONIES BEING MADE FROM ALL THE PREVIOUS YEARS I.E TARIFFS /IMPORT DUTIES ETC ETC , OF WHAT USE HAS IT BEEN TO ME AND YOU ? ZERO , ALL GOING DOWN TO A FEW POCKETS.

4. BECAUSE YOU WANT TO ENCOURAGE THE PRODUCTION AND CONSUMPTION OF MADE IN NIGERIA CARS , YOU HAVE TO INFLATE THE COST OF IMPORTATION ? WHAT KIND OF ECONOMICS IS THAT ? WHAT THEY NEED TO DO IS TO GIVE ROOM TO ACCESSIBILITY OF THESE KIND OF LOANS TO THE MASSES AT AFFORDABLE RATES CONSIDERING OUR ECONOMY AND MINIMUM WAGE SINCE A LOT OF PEOPLE STILL EARN 15,000 MONTHLY IN THIS COUNTRY EXCEPT THE POLICY IS MEANT ONLY FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE RICH. THEY ALSO NEED TO HAVE MORE PLANTS WHERE PARTS WILL BE READILY AVAILABLE AT AFFORDABLE PRICES.

5. IF I CAN AFFORD TO AND I TAKE OUT A CAR LOAN FOR 37,000 FOR INSTANCE AND I HAVEN'T BEEN PAID SALARY OF 40,000 NAIRA IN 3 MONTHS JUST LIKE THE RECENT ISSUES RELATED TO UNPAID SALARIES IN NIGERIA .... WILL THE AUTO FINANCING COMPANY HOLD THE GOVERNMENT OR ME RESPONSIBLE ?? YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO MAKE THE PAYMENTS AS AGREED AS AT WHEN DUE. IF PAYMENT TERMS ARE NOT MET, THE FINANCING COMPANY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REPOSSESS THE CAR .

WITH ALL OF THESE FACTORS, I CAN TELL YOU THAT ITS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE FOR AN AVERAGE NIGERIAN LIVING MONTH TO MONTH TO BENEFIT FROM SUCH SCHEMES EXCEPT YOU HAVE A WELL SECURED AND GOOD PAYING JOB.
I answered a specific question about the availability of car loans and you totally veered off course.

Was the average Nigerian earning 40 grand monthly able to afford tokunbo cars?

PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO MAKE ENDS MEET IN A COUNTRY WHERE NOTHING IS WORKING AND YOU ARE HERE SENTIMENTING THEIR RUBBISH POLICIES THAT WILL ONLY HARM YOU AND I FINANCIALLY. THE TARIFFS THEY HAVE BEEN MAKING ALL THESE YRS, WHAT HAVE THEY USED IT FOR ? PURCHASE OF PRIVATE JETS WHILE THE AVERAGE CITIZEN IS STILL BEING OWED USELESS MINIMUM WAGE FOR MONTHS. WELL AS FOR ME ,TOYOTA AND HONDA UNTIL THEY CAN START PROVIDING CAR MORTGAGES/PAYMENT PLANS AND THE LIKES THAT WILL BENEFIT AVERAGE PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND ME. This administration is actually BRAIN DEAD.

Let me break this down:

Discouraging imports is great for stimulating local economy: WHEN THE LOCAL PRODUCTION ACTUALLY EXISTS. For too many things in Nigeria, the consumption FAR EXCEEDS LOCAL PRODUCTION. The market actually depends on importation for SURVIVAL.

You can't buy what doesn't exist.

So what does this mean? People will continue to import because they HAVE to, even with the increased import taxes:

• They will just pay the increased cost--defeating the purported goal of reducing imports
• They will bribe someone--increased corruption
• They will smuggle it in from neighboring countries--giving more money to other countries

The last is the most likely outcome, as it is already happening. I'm sure car dealers in Cameroon want to kiss our administration.
Please go through the above posts and quit your cut and join economics.

Made in Nigeria cars abound.

What we should be talking about now is the next frontier which includes soft financing of car purchase which is already happening
as well as ability to lease and rent vehicles all these can only be possible with local manufacturing in place.

This writer made some sense but I still disagree with his subtle method of encouraging regional politics. Our political landscape has matured more than that. And it is to the benefit of the nation as it fosters unity, peace and harmony and thus development when all tribes are well represented in the major political parties.

And all persons has an active role to play in encouraging unity. There is no better way to show this unity than for different tribes to be well represented in the parties having national coverage.

Good people of Nigeria, pls let's do away with this archaic political system of Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, etc party.

Well, this seems to be happening already anyway, albeit at a slow pace, because if one analyzes the political landscape of Nairaland grin it shows that the two major political parties has support base across the tribes.

Playing unhealthy regional politics is just like playing with a keg of gun powder that can explode anytime and throw the nation into anachy.

The onus is on the youths to effect this change. Please lets leave the bitter tribal politics played by our parents and let's encourage politics played on conviction, unity, equity and progress to all parts of the country!

I wish you all a happy, peaceful and prosperous 2015. smiley

Perhaps, Lagos will follow Enugu's example. If Enugu can stop such an appointment, what's the point in Lagos doing?

Of course people can shout marginalization where there is none. But where is proof of such marginalization?
Like I said Enugu, Ekiti or Zamfara for example are not as diverse as Lagos.

Political set ups should reflect the innate diversity of a place and Lagos is a shining example of a thriving diversity that should be nurtured in order to encourage others.

I have not seen anyone complaining or clamoring for political recognition in Enugu or Ekiti or Zamfara which clearly shows they are satisfied so why fix a good part.

If anyone feels cheated he should by all means protest.

Besides two wrongs can never make a right.
