national phenomenon my foot! How many times have you heard of the north lament about the state of bad roads in their region? If its hard for you to acknowledge the fact that the virtually all the roads in the SE are in a sorry state, then am sorry I can't help cure your ignorance.
Truth be told the state of the FG roads in the SE is pitiable.

However, given the the torrential rains and the soil topography of the region relative to the north as well as the larger population density and road use, you will realise the reason roads constructed in the north tend to last much longer.

What the FG needs to do is, to up the quality of roads and maintenance culture in the SE because of these peculiar challenges.

You people really need to get off this crooked, corrupt mentality and pedestrian rubbish? You people are so selfish, self centered and self absorbed . You don't think about other people and their daily bread, all you think about is what you can get away with unchallenged.

The fact that you Nigerians get away with your fraudulent and corrupt ways in Nigeria doesn't mean outsiders are obligated to tolerate your crookedness..
Nothing has been proven yet so why jump to conclusions.

You spoke my mind, Linda needs to be careful and speak less of herself, she makes millions from blogging [/b]and I expect her to incorporate her business by now. Alex was forced to do what He did because she ignored him. Thats the problem with success if not well checked, it gets to your head and make you arrogant.

I pray this event makes her stronger, wiser and more business minded, by the way, her new website is a trash, it takes enternity to load and the way she used adverts to decorate it is an eyesore. I will advice she takes the 'ROTATOR ADS' Alex told her to use to customise her adverts.
In her world she needs all the publicity to boost her business.

Her failure to reply your mail only forebodes doom and indicates one of many things;
She lacks the basic etiquette of replying mails AS SOON AS you get them and this is RUDE.
She doesn't give a hoot about her followers and fans. She just uses them to get traffic and millions from advertisements due to that traffic.

And this buttresses my 5th point that she doesn't pay professionals.
Agreed. She might be too busy to reply every mail. But the standard practice worldwide is to employ professionals who do this for u.
The reply gives you followers and mailers a huge sense of belonging and importance. She needs to go back to the very rudiments.
Such an attitude of not replying mails could hugely cost you follower-ship abroad

biafrandream:
My brother thanks for speaking out against the menace of sand sediments on Enugu roads. It is appalling that after every rain drop in Enugu, every vehicle on the road turns red and you will be wondering where the mud came from. I noticed that the same problem applies to every road in Enugu except Bisala. It is not enough to pick garbage like waterproof, plastic and metal containers, the roads should also be thoroughly swept from time to time, to ensure longevity. As long as the wind continues to blow on the soil exposed to the air, those sand will continue to settle on the side of the roads and the only remedy is to remove them. I have been wondering why the government would spend billions of naira to build roads but cannot spend few thousands of naira to ensure the roads are rid of sand, at least once a week. If the government does not have enough fund to employ people, please what is the job of thousands of people who collect monthly salary from the local governments scattered across the state. It is a fact that 80% of local government staff are idle doing nothing, while there are jobs to do. Every road is prone to accumulate dust from time to time no matter how well built. The roads need to be constantly swept to get rid of those sand. When the sand accumulate over time, it turns into mud and it impacts negatively on the roads when it rains. The mud retains water longer than necessary after every rain, and that cracks the road easily. Please those idle state and local government staff should be deployed to sweep the roads at intervals, at least once a week.
Thank you so much.

There are so many unemployed and underemployed people idling away who will jump at the opportunity to become street sweepers and who will do it well.

I wonder why we cannot use them to get rid of these sediments.

Another growing menace is the dumping of refuse along the Enugu PH express way.
Yes ESWAMA is trying inside town, but once you drive towards Ituku from Independence Layout, you will notice heaps of refuse along the highway and under some of the flyovers.

This is very disheartening and ESWAMA should also try and provide dumpsters in those areas as the city expands.

GERALD710: Quality is better than Quantity.
South Africa is a healthy muscular athlete while Nigeria is an unhealthy kid who pushes his weight around.
Giant of Africa My Foot!!
Nigeria's Electricity production at its peak is 6,000 MW
South Africa stands at 45,000 MW.
Nigeria is the only nation I have heard of where Power production rises and falls.
Kenya,Egypt and S.A have constant power production. The only issues are surges in high density areas(Kenya,Egypt) ageing Infrastructure(Western Kenya) and extremely high demmand(S.A) otherwise, you will not find production fluctuations on the scale of Nigeria.
A visit to Johannesburg Cairo and Nairobi.
No running generators in any neighbourhood.
While Nigeria has towns that get only 6 hours of power a day. Kenya gets only 45 blackouts averaging 3 hours a year. This is an average with Northern and Western Kenya as well as Eastern Nairobi getting the most blackouts while Central Kenya and Eastern Kenya as well as the Coast and Western Nairobi getting the least. Universities get 3 blackouts lasting 6 hours a year for maintenance.
South Africa used to get less than 20 blackouts but these days they have increased.
Manufacturing.South Africa and Egypt are by far the leaders. Both Kenya and Nigeria have issues with Manufacturing but Nigeria has worse.mainly due to power supply (Nigeria) Kenya is more of Power cost. The difference is how the two tackled their power problem.Nigeria comtinues with power issues while Kenya already reduced the cost of power by 30% in September as it added cheaper geothermal power.
Nigerian supermarkets are dominated by South African brands while Kenyan and South African supermarkets are dominated by local brands (or international brands that manufacture locally).
One interesting part.Despite a large population.Nigeria boasts of only 2 properly fuctioninge vehicle assembling plants ;Nissan and Peugeot.
South Africa has Toyota BMW Mercedes GM Nissan Renault and Volkswagen
Kenya has Toyota (3 plants and an Academy. The first of its kind in Africa) Hino GM Foton Mobius and and local assemblers Thika Motors(Hyundai) Marshalls East Africa Car and General. CMC and Associated Motors.
Toyota has a strong history in S.A and Kenya. It arrived in S.A in 1961 and Kenya in 1967 and has been the dominant brand in both nations. (Except in Kenya between 2010 and 2013) since then.
This is the time Toyota is thinking of an Assembly plant in Nigeriahuh?Despite being the top brand there toohuhI presume all Toyota vehicles were being imported from S.A with Japanese Engines,South African spare parts and Kenyan bodies.
Shows how bad your manufacturing sector is!!!
You forgot Innoson which is presently more functional than Nissan.

You also did not consider the large numbers of SMEs which is Nigeria's strong point and what fuels growth in developing countries.

I think power is Nigeria's greatest deterrent to industrial growth which you have done well to point out.

budget the likes of Amaechi and Akpabio have
to work with. I'm sure if he did, his
achievements would have been much more
than we are presently seeing.
Borrowing is not necessarily a bad thing
provided the money is used for its main
purpose, and positions the state on a sound
industrial and socio-economic footing. The
future revenue from such projects and the
multiplier effect of having a happy, contented,
employed and prosperous people means the
loan would have been worthwhile after it's
finally paid off.
Another good thing about a loan that is
properly serviced and repaid on time is that it
improves the credit rating of the state/country
concerned.
I'm aware Ohakim borrowed money, but can
anyone point to any completed/world-class
project said money was used for (elitist projects
like the Gov't House etc, don't count i'm afraid).
Hmmm!
You are not in tune with the present ongoings in the state.

This is a sequel to my previous experience at ABC terminal.https://www.nairaland.com/1924762/abc-transport-enugu-terminal-colossal

The bus left the the Enugu terminal and proceeded to Owerri, the terminal we left behind was in a sorry state but the roads in Enugu were in a good state.
Remakably the dumpsters were all empty, i did not notice any single one that was full even though it was a sunday morning.

We drove speedily to the Enugu PH highway through relatively well marked streets.

The high way was passable and some repair was ongoing

It was raining most of the way.

I could not help notice the filth at lokpa area where the cattle settlement is situated.

On getting to Okigwe we joined the single lane and the journey became a tale of bumps, and then a tale of ditches when we got to Amaraku junction. The place left much to be desired, people in the bus were cursing out on the abandoned roundabout.

We soon made it to Akabo and we managed to escape the flood there, perhaps that is what gave our driver confidence that he was now operating a hovercraft ( and why we eventually ended up in a river).

When we got into Owerri the rain had abated, but the first thing that hit me at Orji was the decoration of filth at the road median a stark contrast to the empty dumpsters in Enugu. Someone here needs waste disposal lessons.

We headed towards IMSU junction and the road improved and became greener, don't just let your eyes stray off it though cause you will not like the feeder roads.

As we turned at IMSU junction and headed to the bus terminal, the roads took an abysmal turn for the worse the further we went, till we got to a junction, I think Chukwuma Nwoha, here we met a large pool of water rather abruptly, we asked the driver to turn back which he hesitantly did, but after searching for connecting roads he somehow ended up at the same spot.

With the previous hovercraft experience at Akabo he decided to brave it and we ended up in the middle of a "river" with our bus flooded. It was not a funny experience as our it was knee deep and our luggage got soaked.

My question is what is Rochas Okorocha doing with the allocation of Imo state?
Below are some pics I took.

PoliticsABC Transport Your Enugu Terminal Is A Colossal Disgrace by eaglechild(op): 6:45am On Sep 29, 2014
Went to purchase a shuttle ticket at ABC transport office in Enugu on Sunday the 28th and I had a horrendous experience.
First I had to wade through a stream in the middle of the terminal to get to the neglected shack that was serving as the ticketing office.

It was a rusty container with dirty walls.

Then I met an incredibly long queue of about 30 people and to my dismay I learnt only one person was selling tickets to all the passenger irrespective of destination, this was 7:55am.

While on the queue I looked around and I noticed the utter state of disrepair, way billed goods were stuffed almost ceiling high in the same makeshift container that had waiting passengers with layers of dust covering them, some goods were even left outside to the elements.

The walls were dwarfed and when it started raining the passengers invariably got soaked.
Only a disheveled tarpaulin was serving as barrier.

I finally purchased a ticket after almost an hour of standing and getting my feet stepped on by passengers that were moving to and fro.

Please ABC do something!

The journey to Owerri is another story altogether.
The bus ended up in the middle of a man made stream in Owerri.
