jabbok: the Yorubas will scuttle it because their oxygen supply is coming from hausa / fulani. I hate to say this, but the sons of Odualand need to sit down and ask themselves some thought provoking questions. E.g 1) Why do our Southern brothers see us as backstabbers? 2) Why are we usually the pawns used by the north to scuttle the plans of the South? 3) Why do we always lose our voice when Southern interest is been threatened? eg Boko haram slaughter of Christians up north and other sharia related activities. 4) Why do we make noise, heat the polity, but hide when its time to take responsiblility? 5) Lastly, what do we as a race stand for in Nigeria. The Hausa/Fulani are born to rule supremacist and pro-north, the Igbos are republicans and pro-south, the middle belt are anti sharia and anti-hausanization, the Niger-Delta are for resource control. What stance are we sons of Yorubaland known for? What are we known for? |

In my opinion the person to watch is that Fiorina lady, She had a strong debate performance and the media seem to be pushing her narrative. I'm rooting sentimentally for Carson too though, his story inspired me back then in my teen years. Your points have substance. The conservative christian community (and to a large extent the elderly American voters) are rooting for Carson, based on his stand on homosexuality, immigration and other issues. He is a role model to many Americans both, blacks, whites native Americans and Latinos. Me think he will emerge victorious as the Republican Presidential flagbrearer. |

The Anioma stock has its own culture and are in no way similar to those of the Urhobo, Isoko or Izon. I guess that's why the op didn't include it. That's not to say Anioma culture is inferior though. Dasuks: @mikolo I think it has already started. Their instrument of power i.e the imposition of their candidates on everyone without the approval of the masses is gradually disappearing with the electoral changes that started this 2015. With time as the arena gets crowded with more talent and the situation gets worse, it'll call to the fore these who really have substance. I mean imagine some of these so-called SS politicians required to hold their own in public/televised debates against some of the public and private sector talent in the area.... It's not going to be sudden but looks like once the 'thumbprint' starts to count and ppl get more urbane( social media etc) and educated the foundations of this present order will give way to something more stable.
@eastlink I think that the oil is a blessing which ever way we put it. What has made things the as bad as they are is the ingrained political culture of social irresponsibility and laziness. Look at Norway( 75% of economy on O&G), Scotland, Canada( 20% of economy on O&G and its linkages) and other fast growing polities in the Arab world, where the oil is financing some of the biggest construction and development projects ever seen in history. Without the oil money ( and that of other resources that just luckily appear in one's grounds) a not so developed nation finds it hard to perform its duties properly. So when there's this money its not so much its existence that makes it a curse as opposed to its use. Not one day has that oil brought harm to the peoples. Instead they have internalized their costs. The training of personnel and research especially. The salaries go to the locals and local academia. Yes, the govt is spending money but that wealth is toward the ppl, nothing leaves the production locales. I mean someone in London could probably not care so much about oil, but 10 Downing would neever want to see the North sea reserves go, the Aberdeen'ians' understand their worth and are busy growing the most prosperous middle class in virtually all of Europe. Same thing happens in Alberta, all them hicks with their pimped out trucks.. The area harboring oil all of a sudden becomes synonymous with wealth and abundance because the politics governing the distribution of the wealth is true to the dwellers of the production areas. For instance the Ogonis are in dire straits now, not to their own fault entirely, but most youth are now in useless semi-armed unemployed groups doing absolutely nothing. After the cleanup wouldn't it make sense to properly train the young boys and girls as technicians directly in the industry and other linkages to it ( transport, catering) so that the benefits are localized to a great extent and everyone stays satisfied and almost content. A Norwegian minister at a talk in Ghana once described the money that oil brings as 'lazy'. Implying it made people too lazy but the key was an alert and fully aware government and of course electorate to make leadership changes where appropriate. Just take a look at our area lately what happened to the maritime schools, the initiatives for technical colleges in the region to focus on O&G development. Why isn't UNIPORT and UST on the forefront of global oil and gas education, considering that even Norway that started in the 70s now exports first rate subsea tech and knowledge in other facets of the industry. Bearing in mind that the sector breeds multiple linkages all the way from hospitality ( catering, hotels) to financial services to direct newly acquired capital flows to where they are needed the most. Even agriculture will not be possible without some key subsidies and assistance from the govt to the farmers, using the already gotten 'oil' cash. Personally I was disappointed with the GEJ administration the changes we were supposed to see didn't come? Brass Lng PIB Delta EPZ??billions of dollars belonging to posterity postponed for no reason.. The ND missed big time. I agree with your proposition, it supports the affirmation that oil is a blessing if put into good use - something the pre-tempered PIB would have solve to a large extent. Yet, when we look deep into the current Nigerian social-political system, we would realize that such proposition will never work. The emergence of GEJ would have helped ameliorate the situation, but the Nigerian factor threw a spanner to all his perceived efforts. Had the ND been a semi-autonomous region then maybe we would have put those propositions into practice, since we suffer more from the side effects of oil exploration than other region. However, as part and parcel of Nigeria we can start by doing the following: 1) Elect revolutionary and pro-NigerDelta leaders in all levels of state and federal positions. 2) Form a true Niger-Delta or LNC political party in the mould of Scottish National Party that has our interest as its main manifesto. 3) Stop for the next 10-20 years all oil related exploration in the ND, as a way of regaining our sanity, sanitize the system and lessen the burden of oil by looking inwards for other areas of comparative advantage. Watch out for those (both outsiders and their inside cronies) that would come and tell you we would die of hunger, we wouldn't because we are resilient, only the cancerous system will rot away. My thoughts though! |

talktimi: There is no need stating the fact that the Niger delta region is the goose that lays the golden eggs which feeds Nigeria. There's also no need stating the obvious that the Niger delta lags way behind developmentally when compared to other regions or like their fellow oil producing peers in other parts of the world. It is a sad fact that most of our political office holders and appointees (governors, commissioners, NDDC board/chairmen, Niger delta ministers & officials, Amnesty office etc) failed the region especially during an era of unprecedented oil boom and this is evidenced by the almost complete lack of basic infrastructure for citizens. Our political leaders have clearly failed us but by our tenacious nature, we do not cry over spilt milk. So I ask, what then is the next step ? Where do we go from here ?
Your contributions are needed please as this is a very serious matter and valid suggestions will most certainly be acted upon. Thanks We are the architect of a large percentage of our problems. Our overdependence on oil proceeds for survival has made many of our youths lazy, not to talk of our various states. Many people are satisfied with the crumbs gotten from the amnesty allowance that they no longer see the bigger picture. What happened to looking into other areas for sustenance. Why not we diversify into areas we have comparative advantage, like tourism, agriculture and human capacity building. If I had my way I will suggest we put a stop to all oil exploration activities in the Niger Delta for the next 10 years pending when we truly co-opt our economy from oyel reliance to something meaningful that we can all be proud of. If the Ogoni can shut down oil exploration activities and still survive who says we can't. If Cross rivers and Imo can key into tourism as it major earner what stops others from doing likewise. Oil is a curse to the blackman. The Arabs and whites made good use of theirs to better their lives. But for us, it has become the cause of our current misery and underdevelopment. Had we not found this curse who knows the height we would have soared in fisheries and oil palm plantation. We would have overtaken Malaysia in every index of development. The bottomline is that oil has no future for us, take it or live it. It may for the crawling giant of Africa, who as parasites have made oil their future and it is by that false hope that the weak unity of this country is built. Our region is only but that carrier who is continually raped dry to keep that fake unity intact. So, let's stop basing the Niger Delta struggle on oil consciousness. Let's look inward. |

OfoIgbo: You must have wrongly imagined you wdre dealing with an uninformed Igboman.
The Southeast secretariat printed two booklets during the course of that conference. The smaller booklet has 71 pages, which clearly listed the SE standpoint. The cover is red, and I have it with me here. The bigger booklet has a blue cover and it has the Igbo aspiration, the eventual decisions of the conference and how the various geopolitical zones voted on the several issues. My copy of this booklet was given to a good friend of mine, but I will attempt to get another copy, and hope they are still in stock.
Now getting back to the red book, pages 18-20 deals with Igbo standpoint on Fiscal federalism, and below I have quoted verbatim three points made by the Igbos
I. The federating units collect revenue accruing from their zone, including revenue from oil and other minerals, and remit to the federal distributable pool, an agreed percentage, 50% is suggested. II. The central government retains 40% of the federally collected revenue and contributes 60% to the pool III. The distributable pool is shared between the center and the federating units in an agreed formula. It must be appreciated that with its powers and functions whittled down the federal government needs less funds while the federating units are saddled with heavy responsibilities of citizen welfare.
So from the above snippet, Igbos championed fiscal federalism but once again, Yorubas followed their masters to gun it down I see facts here. |

Ioannes: i think another logical question to ask is why do igbos hate yorubas so much as u can see from their response so far. as far as they are concerned yoruba is the reason why they are not making progress as a people, yoruba is the cause of all the evil that has befallen them from time immemorial. yet they load marco polo buses everyday and head to yorubaland for sustenance.
the igbo psyche is puzzling to say the least.
they say yorubas are cowards, yet their biafran army was routinely routed and defeated by the nigerian side led by a yoruba, while their commander in chief abandoned them to their fate and ran off.
they say yorubas are dirty yet aba is the dirtiest town in nigeria.
i could continue but whats the point. they revel in their hatred. their hatred of yorubas and buhari gives purpose and meaning to their lives.
they continually lie to themselves that they are the chosen race and if not for the "yolobas" their gully infested land would be paradise.
well i doff my hat to the yoruba tribe that can hold down such a "mighty and god chosen" tribe like the igbos.
the igbos unconsciously feel that since they hate the yorubas then that means the yorubas must hate them with equal venom.
not so. what does it take for the yorubas to start a pogrom to wipe out the igbos in their midst? nothing. cos there are very few yorubas living in your non productive land. so no fear of retaliation.
the more you hate the less productive you are. yorubas dont hate you. and am sure buhari doesnt hate you, he probably despises you. lol.
give it a rest will you. and i wish you all the best in your quest for biafra. (expecting insults and curses). Daft. While I don't advocate for violence I still believe many Yoruba's have blinded themselves from reality. There is one thing I noticed about the Igbos, and that is they don't wish death or genocide on anyone or ethnic group. Igbos are reactionary when it comes to the use of violence. They replicate in double fold any violence meted out to them, even in the backyard of their assailants. The Aba, Onitsha, Owerri, Asaba and Sabongari counter-riot which was in retaliation to the killings of Southerners during the Sharia crisis that rocked many parts of the north is good testament of this. Only the Hausa/Fulani had tasted the anger of the Igbos as far as conflict is concerned in Nigeria. However, with the way most Yoruba's are shouting this genocide thing these days, it is advisable to tell them that they should watch what they wish for. Most Yoruba's feel that after their phantom genocide is carried out in their SW (if they suceed in Lagos) that their people in the S/S will go unhurt. That is where they lie, because blood is thicker than water. A genocidal conflict will wipe off no trace of the Yorubas here in Port-Harcourt. From Calabar to Asaba none shall be spared. Even the oil servicing workers. This is the gospel truth that many loud mouthed Yoruba bigots are oblivious of. |

His mother, Fannie Ann (Little) Jones, was a Postal Service worker from North Carolina.[14] He has one sibling, a brother named Jabari Fret who is best known as "Jungle", a member of the hip hop group Bravehearts.
As a young child, Nas and his family relocated to the Queensbridge Houses in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens. His neighbor, Willy "Ill Will" Graham, influenced Nas's interest in hip hop by playing him records.[15] His parents divorced in 1985,[15] and he dropped out of school after the eighth grade.[10] He educated himself about African culture through the Five Percent Nation and the Nuwaubian Nation.[16] In his early years, he played the trumpet and began writing his own rhymes.[17] Nas is not a Yoruba neither was his father. His father a jazz musician was renamed Olu Dara by an Ifa priest when he toured Africa. There is a difference between being an Afro-American of slave fore bearers and being an Black American immigrant of Yoruba extraction. His case is different from that of Sade Adu and similar to Eddie Murphy and Tupac Shakur. Just here to burst some Yoru-Wikipedia lies. |

The CBN governors was a North/Westerner the Accountant General a S/Westerner and Minister of Petroleum an Ijaw. The military and paramilitary were northern dominated. Except for the Ministry of Defence, Chief of Air staff and Comptroller Gen of the NSCDC which were Yoruba, the Igbo held just Chief of Army staff. The IG of Police, Customs, Immigrations, Prisons and all other top military brass were Northerners. The SSS Director and Chief of Naval staff were South/Southerners. If Mr. Buhari can convince me that we don't have competent hands down south then I would rest my case. I don't believe all southerners are rogues as they would want us to believe.
Even individuals that played hatchet roles in the evil days of a maximum ruler is been compensated in this government. What an irony.
The trend I see recently is that of divide and rule. Even the most vocal chanters are beginning to loose faith in this government. Unless something urgent is done all the goodwill they have managed to build will fizzle out.
I urge our leaders in southern zone to begin to speak out urgently disregarding party or ethnic affinity. Some saw this early enough to raise the red flag others asked for more time and understanding. I think as the saying goes a stitch in time saves nine.
APC as a part must begin to build themself into an institution as what I see is a scattered party. Like the igbo will say- church onye mere nkeya meaning a church without leadership, from Saraki to Dagora to Mr. President no one understands the other.
Ministerial list would be out in a few days, up until this time no member of Mr Presidents team can talk about any qualified individual, while this is good I believe we have on the extreme end a DICTATOR in the making. Google translation failed you this time. Get it into your head? The bridge for a southern solidarity has long be blown, no thanks to you Yorubas. c33b33: The language you used to type this trash was formed from greek, latin, french, german.
The Igala and Idoma should be allowed to make their choice and I bet you they are wiser now.
Who are the SS? You are already in a fraud called nigeria. You are the one in a mirage because you should be thinking of how your country will get out of the daily mass killing, corruption and a collapsing economy. Nde ishi oji!
IPOB Youth Some of you are illiterates and big fools who don't learn. That is why no one takes this your secessionist plans serious. No sensible easterner will include the middle belt tribes into their future plans. Forget the useless 'they are wiser now prank', unless if they willingly vote to join through a referendum. But their best bet remains in having their own middle belt republic. You fools should learn to choose your priorities right, stop fantasizing about meaningless things and stick to the serious business. Especially, the selfish fantasy of the bolded. |

adeyemi2015: Israel is being over-rated with their military capabilities. It's so funny that many are under-rating the Iranian forces. Iran Military is less equipped comparing to IRGC! The IRGC forces are ready for martyr, and they voluntarily joined to protect the interest of the Country, their religion and Spiritual Leader. I've been following Iran Military developments quite a while, and this is a Country who is fully capable of producing military hardware and software respectively. Name it; they are good and capable in the air, on the Sea or Land! I think those who are condemning Iran Military Capabilities should sacrifice little MB to research on their military capability status; bet me, they wouldn't come back and under-estimated them again. If war breaks out today between Israel and Iran (God forbids), as Ahmadinajadi, their immediate past president once said, Israel will no longer appear on the World Map!!! And they were completely outclassed by the Iraqis in the 80's. Where were the so called IRGC martyrs when their country was on the verge of defeat. Saddam proved to the world that the Iranians were only but noisemakers. The truth is that the strength of the Iranians lies in their terrorist cell. When it comes to a conventional ware fare, you don't wanna joke with the Israelis. |

Henry120: Israel had overwhelming U.S support both in the Six Day and Yum kippur war. I doubt you know anything about the Israeli/Arab six day war you mentioned. For your information, the Arabs (led by Nasser's Egypt) where heavily backed by the USSR. How they were easily defeated under 5 days is just pure military superiority. |
