charidot: No candidate can defeat PMB in Nigeria now that he is in power except the constitution. Buhari has no viable alternative. We only have criminals who are baptising themselves to become president. God forbid! I agree with you nobody stand the chance to defeat PMB, that's why I used "biggest threat" in my title. |

seguno2: Most Nigerians don’t want change. Most of us simply wish for change. Those who want anything WORK for it. Most Nigerians, who SAY that they want change, don’t have PVCs. Those who have will sell it to the highest bidder, for bags of rice and odourless fufu with a few naira notes. By the way do you have your PVC? How many people have you mobilised to get their PVCs? You are right. They don't want the change as much as they claim. Honestly I think we need to change this government, it has been hijacked by the cabal. And yes I do have a PVC I started voting since 2003. |

ebullientkay: It's the biggest threat ever. Now we have options: Atiku, Kwankwaso. The thing is, Atiku is detribalised and relates with Nigerians, while Kwankwaso is ruggedly pro-north, and extends no meaningful tentacles down south. Kwankwaso is a tough contender, but for the benfit of progress, a wider view of the political arena and the dividend of democracy, Atiku has no equals. The only benefit of a Kwankwaso led election is, he is now anti-APC. He has been a hunted man within the party and is one of its binding factor. But again, his chances depends on whether he is Arewa's choice candidate. Atiku is Nigeria's candidate any day any time. Thank you for understanding the point I was driving at. Atiku may have a better acceptance down south, but Kwankwaso is undoubtedly the most liked after PMB in the north. The calculation of the opposition is almost entirely based on getting a candidate liked enough in the north to wrestle some votes from PMB and then get overwhelming votes from the south to cancel out the PMB's lead in the north. Today nobody takes Atiku serious in the north. He represents everything wrong about Nigeria's politicians. Mind you Atiku has nothing to show for for being a defector president apart from getting banned to enter US and corruptly enriching himself. |

silastemplar: Kwankwasos popularity is basically in the north which isnt enough. As it stands today, regardless of what we want or dont want, Buhari still stands top. Isn't that what the opposition are looking for? A popular candidate from the north to wrestle significant votes from PMB? Kwankwaso is the best in that regard. Plus PDP is now generally viewed as an anti-North anti-Muslim party, so SDP would also give have that novel appeal of being neutral. |
Politics › Could Kwankwaso's Move To SDP Be Biggest Threat To PMB's Second Term? by EazyMoh(op): 2:25am On Mar 09, 2018 |
Considering factors like. 1. SDP is basically OBJ's alternative to both PDP and APC. 2. Atiku wouldn't be welcomed where OBJ is the godfather, (He'd have considered defecting to SDP again since it's about to stand more chance. 3. OBJ's most preferred candidate Sule Lamido is not the defecting type, He will never leave PDP. 4.Kwankwaso has became continuously sidelined in APC, especially with Ganduje given tactical support by the National level. 5. Kwankwaso is the second most popular politician in the north, second only to PMB. I am not saying he'd defeat the president, but without the negative aura of PDP, he'd really make some serious impact. 6. It finally boils down to how badly Nigerians want a change of this change. Which from all indications many do! 7. What do you think? |

DevdanSanguine: Erase our culture? Why does every single imbe cile on naira land keep repeating this rubbish? Our culture is still very much intact. Culture is a way of life, our culture is very much different from all other Muslims bar the aspects of Islam except similarities with other sahelians like the fulanis as well. And what do you mean middle East myth?
Mind you I hold no sentiment towards fulanis and never will, history of hausas has always been one of migration and rebirth. E g how the abagayawas were overthrown by maguzawas and so on in Kano. Various sub groups have often come into Hausa land and dominated even before the fulanis, only difference is the fulanis somewhat united the hausas states who have never been truly cointegrated.
And can you stop it with this nonsense? Dikko is a Fulani surname. Dikko is a Fulani man, stop it. Period. Why do you barmy lot keep telling us about our own people? A Hausa man tells you he's fulani, a Fulani man tells you he's Fulani, but you're neither and you know better than us yeah?
Usmanu Zamnagawa (ruled 1343-1349) Ali Yaji I (ruled 1349-1385) Bugaya (ruled 1385-1390) Kanejeji (ruled 1390-1410) Umaru (ruled 1410-1421) Daud (ruled 1421-1438) Abdullah Burja (ruled 1438-1452) Dakauta (ruled 1452) Atuma (ruled 1452) Yaquled (1452-1463) Muhammadu Rumfa (ruled 1463-1499) Abdullahi dan Rumfa (ruled 1499-1509) Kanoan Empire Muhammad Kisoki (ruled 1509-1565) Yakubu (ruled 1565) Abu-Bakr Kado (ruled 1565-1573) Muhammad Shashere (ruled 1573-1582) Muhammad Zaki (ruled 1582-1618) Muhammad Nazaki (ruled 1618-1623) Kano Sultanate House of Kutumbi Kutumbi (ruled 1623-1648) al-Hajj (ruled 1648-1649) Shekarau (emir) (ruled 1649-1651) Muhammad Kukuna (ruled 1651-1652) Soyaki (ruled 1652 he ruled Kano in those days) Muhammad Kukuna (restored) (ruled 1652-1660) Bawa (ruled 1660-1670) Dadi (ruled 1670-1703) Muhammad Sharif (ruled 1703-1731) Kumbari (ruled 1731-1743) al-Hajj Kabe (ruled 1743-1753) Yaji II (ruled 1753-1768) Baba Zaki (ruled 1768-1776) Daud Abasama II (ruled 1776-1781) Muhammad al-Walid (ruled 1781-1805)
This is the list of some of the hausa rulers of Kano until the last one before a Fulani ruler. If you're implying hausas abandoned their names because of fulanis then you're in need of education. Notice it's a mixture of mainly Islamic and cultural names like most hausas use today.
Just checked your posts to confirm you're a south easterner who apparently created his account solely to bash fulanis. If I had seen this earlier I would have definitely not bothered to write all of that. Mark me, I have completely given up on you lot. Allah maka albarka brother, I created a thread this afternoon to address this their ignorance and hypocrisy. A people who literally worship Whiteman are the ones trying hard to tell a Hausaman he has no culture. |

In conclusion, Conquests had been a part and parcel of every society, you can't keep harboring hatred for your conquerors rather it is best to make use of a bad situation which the Hausa people have tremendously done with respect to Dan Fodio's Jihad. Hausaland became United, industry and commerce boomed, literacy rate skyrocketed, heavy taxation of the masses was abolished and the land and it's people have never been the same. Ironically even the Caliphate with its Fulani dynasty was also conquered in 1903 by the Europeans who also stripped the Fulani rulers of all and any executive power reducing them to ceremonial figureheads. There are thousands of societies who are conquered by one force or the other throughout history, many of which are still dominated by their conquerors and have moved on, changed and integrated with their conquistadors. Biggest example are conquest of the Americas and Australia. Despite the fact that the conquistadors pillaged and looted the indigenous peoples of these lands reducing their population by up to 90%! And still holding sway in their lands, the indigenous people do not view their present day countrymen European origin as enemies nor view them with hate. Peace out! |

What baffled me was the venom with which the ignorant and hypocritical commentators were attacking Hausa people claiming the Fulani have erased Hausa culture and identity (in as much this couldn't be further from the truth). The big question is what have those people done to the European colonialists who have done 100 times more than what the Fulani did to Hausaland? They converted you to their religion, you speak their language and answer their names. Some of you even with the whitemen never left. |
Politics › On Dan Fodio's Conquest and Conquests in World History by EazyMoh(op): 4:48pm On Feb 24, 2018*. Modified: 5:52pm On Feb 24, 2018 |
Yesterday there was a thread about conquest of Hausaland by Uthman Dan Fodio early in the 19th century. Despite the fact the thread was an incomplete narrative what lead to the overthrow of most Hausa kings, what captivated me was the barrage of insults and attacks on the native Hausa people by any commentators on Why the Hausa do not rebel and attack the Fulani who are still active members of Hausaland. They lament how Fulani used religion to subdue the Hausa Kingdoms despite their small numbers and away disadvantages. They called Hausa people all sort of derogatory names many even boasting of being the final force that halted Dan Fodio's Jihad Any attempt to clarify that Dan Fodio's Jihad was about the best thing to have happened to Hausa, they brush it aside as a victor's version of history. Permit me to draw our attention to How human history has always being shaped... Conquests, migrations, alliances, marriages, genocides, enslavement, religious conversions, colonizations and many more factors have always changed the course of people and their history. For example rampant conquest/colonization of African people and their lands was formerlized during the Berlin conference in 1885. |

Why was he exiled in the first place? You can't start telling history from the middle. *Modified I can't believe the Mods brought this to PF. This is just a segment of a long story. Even if you don't want to write much you could at least summarize the main events. It's not by force to be a blogger. Here is a summary intro from Wikipedia. A teacher of the Maliki school of law, he lived in the city-state of Gobir until 1802 when, motivated by his reformist ideas and suffering increasing repression by local authorities, he led his followers into exile. This exile began a political and social revolution which spread from Gobir throughout modern Nigeria and Cameroon, and was echoed in a jihad movement led by the Fula ethnic group across West Africa. Dan Fodio declined much of the pomp of rulership, and while developing contacts with religious reformists and jihad leaders across Africa, he soon passed actual leader ship of the Sokoto state to his son, Muhammed Bello . Dan Fodio wrote more than a hundred books concerning religion, government , culture , and society . He developed a critique of existing African Muslim elites for what he saw as their greed, paganism, violation of the standards of Sharia law, and use of heavy taxation. He encouraged literacy and scholarship, for women as well as men, and several of his daughters emerged as scholars and writers. His writings and sayings continue to be much quoted today, and are often affectionately referred to as Shehu in Nigeria. Some followers consider dan Fodio to have been a mujaddid , a divinely inspired "reformer of Islam". [7] Dan Fodio's uprising was a major episode of a movement described as the Fulani hegemonies in the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries. [8] It followed the jihads successfully waged in Futa Bundu , Futa Tooro , and Fouta Djallon between 1650 and 1750, which led to the creation of those three Islamic states. In his turn, Shehu inspired a number of later West African jihads, including those of Seku Amadu , founder of the Masina Empire , El Hadj Umar Tall, founder of the Toucouleur Empire (who married one of dan Fodio's granddaughters), and Modibo Adama , founder of the Adamawa Emirate . Early life and training Edit Dan Fodio was a Fulani descendant of a torodbe family that was well established in Hausaland. [9][10] He was well educated in classical Islamic science, philosophy, and theology. He also became a revered religious thinker. His teacher, Jibril ibn 'Umar, argued that it was the duty and within the power of religious movements to establish an ideal society free from oppression and vice. Jibril was a North African Muslim alim who gave his apprentice a broader perspective of Muslim reformist ideas in other parts of the Muslim world. Jibril b. Umar was known as an uncompromising opponent of corrupt practices and a stuanch proponent of Jihad. He begain his intinerant preaching as a mallam in 1774-1775. Inspired by Jibril b. Umar, Uthman Dan Fodio criticized the Hausa Kingdoms for their unjust and illegal taxes, confiscations of property, compulsory military service, bribery, gift taking and the enslavement of other Muslims. Dan Fodio also criticized the Hausa rulers for condoning paganism, worshipping fetishes, and believing in the power of talismans, divination, and conjuring. He also insisted on the observance of Maliki Law in the commercial, criminal, and personal sectors. Uthman also denounced the mixing of men and women, pagan customs, dancing at bridal feasts, and inheritance practices contrary to Islamic Law . Uthman was also very influenced by the Mushahada or mystical visions he was having. In 1789 a vision led him to believe he had the power to work miracles, and to teach his own mystical wird , or litany. His litanies are still widely practiced and distributed in the Islamic world. [11] Dan Fodio later had visions of Abdul-Qadir Gilani , the founder of the Qadari Sufi Brotherhood, an ascension to heaven, where he was initiated into the Qadiriyya and the spiritual lineage of the Prophet. His thological writings dealt with concepts of the renewer " mujaddid and the role of the Ulama in teaching history, and other works in Arabic and Fulbe. Many people regarded him as the Mahdi (messiah) come in fullfilment of popular prophecies. [12] Dan Fodio broke from the royal court and used his influence to secure approval for creating a religious community in his hometown of Degel that would, dan Fodio hoped, be a model town. He stayed there for twenty years, writing, teaching, and preaching. As in other Islamic societies, the autonomy of Muslim communities under Ulama leadership made it possible to resist the state and the state version of Islam in the name of Sharia and the ideal caliphate. |
