Who told you it is those incompetent people that would oversea the operations? The plants are gonna be run by Russian scientists just the way FPSOs are run by experts.

But Japan is expanding its nuclear energy capacity. They know there are few alternatives. Fukushima was not a nuclear led disaster, it was a Tsunami led disaster. No one died or got injured from radiation poisoning. The surrounding land is contaminated but it was simply because the plant design was faulty, the backup generators situated below sea level and the sea wall design not anticipating such wave height.

If an oil refinery or coal fired plant was situated in the same path of the Tsunami, all hell would still have broken loose, the land would still be heavily polluted and lives in jeopardy.

God bless you, people fear what they don't understand. We have more complicated plants currently in operation in Nigeria that people are not even aware of.

Nuclear plant needs a constant source of large volume of water for operations. The closet large water bodies to the "core north" are rivers Niger and Benue. Both rivers already have massive hydro projects, so after much survey Lokoja and Itu were considered the best sites for the projects. Mind this project was first initiated by Yar'adua administration.
Also you can read from the initial alarmist write-up, nowhere in Nigeria would be safe.

Nuclear is the safest, greenest, and cheapest energy source. It should be our priority.

A simple knowledge about risk analysis would tell you it is the best. It is like air travel despite of things go wrong, it is still the safest means of travel by far. And it would foolhardy to rule out air travel in your life just for fear if a plane crash.
