The Amwari Light Attack Aircraft is manufactured in South Africa, with the Third World market in mind. Compared to the Brazilian and USA-made Super Tucano propeller-driven ground attack aircraft recently purchased by the Nigerian air force at a cost of $83 million dollars each , the South African Amwari plane sells at just $10 million dollars per plane, excluding weapons option surcharges which MAY bring the price up to a still affordable $15 million US dollars per plane.

Using these conservative estimates, FIVE or more of the Amwari planes could be purchased for the price of ONE Super Tucano. The Nigerian military would do well to look into the Amwari plane from South Africa as a viable, affordable, and highly capable alternative to the Super Tucano, for deployment in the nation's ongoing war against terror.

Below are some photographs, facts, and figures detailing this sleek war machine for budget-conscious developing nations like Nigeria. Among many other design innovations of this remarkable African-built plane, the rear-facing propeller is located in a much safer position for the ground crew by being placed in the space between the two tail booms, thereby making it far less likely that anyone on the tarmac might accidentally walk into a spinning propeller. The engine for this beautiful plane is a tried and tested power plant manufactured in Canada's Pratt and Whitney factories.

A craft like this would be 100% perfect. We could get 50-100 of it and be able to patrol most places bandits, kidnappers and the like are active. It is not even that sophisticated and it should be able to negotiate a technological transfer that would make it possible to manufacture most of its components in this country.
Sadly though, we usually go for prestige stuff like the Tucano and the JF-17. Just imagine buying a dozen Tucanos for $500-$600 million, when we could had spent $200 to $300 million to buy 50 TB2 or drones like it and used the rest of the money to buy IFV and APC and properly kit out our army. In short, our defense procurement process is often a study in waste and cluelessness.

Nice. I noticed the armed security in front of one of the work trucks. This is what IPOB terrorists have caused. Road contractors now have to hire and pay for heavy security which in turn increases the cost of road construction. Building roads in the Nnewi and Ihiala areas will be particularly problematic as IPOB terrorists still cause anarchy in those areas.
