IronGalaxy: he's overrated because he's inconsistent. Its one thing having potential and its one thing fulfilling that potential.
Like I said earlier we in SA are under no illusions with our team , we know whether we stand unlike you guys who still think rule Africa by virtue of having players playing for Arsenal, so Bafana comparisons are unnecessary.
Like I said earlier, we don't rate Akpeyi either but since he's your number one clearly someone in the Nigerian team rates him and that's an indictment on your team.
Bro, lol. You can pull all these stats on Iwobi and it still won't make a difference. Dude is still mad overrated. Sorry He still better than Tau. Simple as that. He has the body of work to show it. Tau is 26 and has only played in the Belgian second division. You shouldn't be comparing him to Iwobi who is two years younger and has been playing in the epl for 2 and a half seasons. Simple as that. |

IronGalaxy: Nope I'm using Tau' s impact on the SA national team vis-a vis your own Iwobi who's always missing on your national games and is nowhere to be seen at Arsenal. Dude is mad overrated and average and that's how I see it, I don't get why I'm vilified for a having a different opinion. Whether Moses or whoever played in Belgium and performed is irrelevant, I'm comparing the two players' ability.
Ekstein chose to play in Azerbaijan because he wanted to, duh!! I'm simply stating that South African players are very choosy where the play in general, maybe they are spoilt I don't know but it's a fact.
Whether Akpeyi is highly related or not it's irrelevant he's still your number one in a major tournament, you are still the ' mighty super eagles" with a whole population playing in Europe aren't you?lol. You shouldn't struggle to replace Ikeme then but alas you chose a South African based player. He's also not rated this side as well btw. Yes, iwobi plays for Arsenal and is two years younger than Tau but didn't he moved there when he was four? Come on now. Ekisten chose to play in Azerbaijan because he didn't get offers from teams in the top 10 league. Iwobi is not overrated. He is inconsistent yes but still a better player than Tau. Iwobi moved to Arsenal when he was 4 - so what?? Are you saying all academy players automatically get a pass to Arsenal's first team?? Why did he break into the team before the other youth players if he was mad overrated like you say? Why were the likes of Barca interested in him when he first broke through? Why did Lazio bid 25m for him if he's as overrated as you say? Akpeyi is thrash and plays in the PSL which is meant to be a strong league according to you but we still don't rate him. Yes the mighty Super Eagles is struggling to replace Ikeme but Bafana Bafana hasn't been relevant since the early 00s. No AFCON wins, only WC you've qualified for in the last 10 years has been as hosts. Sundowns winning the CAF champions League is your greatest achievement in the last 10 years. Iwobi is rated higher than Moses Simon and Onyekuru. Moses Simon and Onyekuru bossed the Belgian first division why super Tau(who I like btw) has only done so at second division. Till Tau performs at the big stage - Iwobi is better. Simple. |

Yeah it was so much of a disaster he scored 14 goals in his first season as a pro and had the best goals per minute ratio in the epl for 2 years before he got overtaken. TheGoodJoe: I totally disagree. The reason why we were overrun time and time again is because the midfielders were over worked. Trying to get them to force the attack instead of sitting and mopping up.
All Rohr had to do was switch positions and get them to play deeper/close to the defence. We left too much space and midfield, giving room for the opponents to exploit.
We had Mikel running from midfield to attack, finding himself inside the box. We had Ndidi running up and down the field like he was saving Leicester from Barcelona on their best days.
I have asked why Rohr hardly tampers with the shape of his team. Change roles of players to nullify threats and gaps. Let Ogu and Mikel sit deep earlier in the first half. Second half make a proper offensive change but no. Mister Conservative must defend. If we wanted to be on the offensive(which we did) - there was no need playing two CMs deep in addition to a back 4 especially when we had just one attacking fullback (Aina). What we needed was one of the CM to be able to make those late 3rd man runs into the box and have the stamina to drop deep. We all know Etebo is the only guy to do that. But Rohr chose to play Etebo as a DM which was an incredible waste. Another thing which no one seems to be talking about is our lack of options at midfield. I remember that game against SA when Rohr invited just 3 CMs and when I complained folks said the result was what mattered. We are paying for a lack of CM options now especially with the likes of Kalu not a 100 percent when we could've given that spot to a CM. |

darkelf: You guys are just looking for excuses for Mikel.
Play him as AM or CM, Regista or box to box, Deep lying playmaker or advanced forward, he isn't the same player he used to be. In truth, he was always an above average player. I said it. You can't depend in a player like that. He isn't C. Rinaldo or Messi or Van Digk. He is above average at best. Hope we learn from this He hasn't been impressive this tournament but he has played well for us most of the time. He played well in our friendlies. I have been saying he should play deeper even when he was on form. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by edi287: 7:38pm On Jun 30, 2019 |
TheSuperNerd: After Mikel's horror show as AM in the Burundi game I was hoping Rohr will see the bloody truth. Play Mikel as your deep lying CM!!!! "Mbanu," says Rohr.
Now to this game, I told you it was obvious Ogu was gonna sit deep with Etebo to play mobile CM. But Rohr f**ked that up too. We who analyse this game keenly know Ogu should be DM in this set-up but Rohr mixed it all up. And you are right, player roles also contributed to this loss.
Rohr doesn't seem to know how best to fit in players and into what system. He may have gotten a few picks right but in other key areas he has flunked. This is why he cannot get the best outta Iheanacho... And now a Chukwueze. Rohr lacks attacking invention and bravery. It is nauseating. Siasia with this team may concede against Madagascar but he won't serve us this rubbish loss. Siasia will beat Madagascar blue black and green!
Nonsense and Rohr!!! I personally would've stopped playing Mikel as a 10 after the WC. I don't know what our so called "Chief/Head Coach"(Rohr is TD) is doing - but they need to be sacked. You can't leave the tactical side of things to Rohr especially with the new generation of players we have coming through. Some will say we're overreacting over this loss but they need to go back and check their history. |

TheGoodJoe: Rohr has his good sides but bravery and invention is definitely not part of it. He is just too Conservative. Even a goal down to Madagascar and his first change was Conservative. He had no other choice. We would've been slaughtered on the break if he brought on an attacking player for Mikel. He should never have started both Ogu and Mikel since he has no idea on how to utilize him. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by edi287: 7:14pm On Jun 30, 2019 |
This is an eye opener. Perhaps we'll wake the Bleep up. We have been too complacent. I've said it once and will continue to say it - Rohr is average at best tactically. I appreciate the organization and harmony he's brought to the squad thanks to his man management skills - but his tactical acumen is just too average.
The midfield cost us this game today. Player roles were muddled up (i.e Etebo playing as the deepest mid, Ogu playing box to box, etc). Mikel lacked the intensity and slowed our game down when we needed quick 1-2s to break their defence. Ogu did absolutely nothing. If you're going to play two slow immobile mids like Ogu and Mikel - make sure you get their positioning right.
Kalu should not have started. Dude didn't look a 100 percent fit to me. If anyone was going to get tried out - it should've been Onyekuru.
This result is beyond disgraceful. Not because we lost - but the manner in which we need. No intensity - nothing. Ighalo has been dominated by the opposing CB for the second game running. No one should dare make up any excuses for this result. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by edi287: 6:06pm On Jun 30, 2019 |
forgiveness: It was Balogun's fault. He should have kicked the ball away. But Ogu, what has he done so far? Rohr is confused. Ogu not Etebo should be the one dropping deep to get the ball from our CBs. I don't understand how Rohr is thinking. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by edi287: 5:58pm On Jun 30, 2019 |
One costly error is what separates both teams.
Kalu has had some nice touches but isn't imposing his self well enough.
What was Ogu thinking with that pass? Leon should take more of the blame as he totally fell asleep. Imagine trying to shield the air while your opponent has already made his move?
Mikel should be playing deeper. He's not offering intensity upfront despite a few nice touches. Once again we've shown that we're not able to breakdown teams that sit deep. We even struggled the few times we got pressed. Mikel does not have the intensity to play as a 10 anymore. Let's stop this nonsense of playing him as a 10. Regista or he gets benched. Simple. |

TheSuperNerd: Naah.. it's alright my good man. Ogu and Etebo as our shield. What do you think? Ogu is the sitting DM obviously. Etebo is more mobile.
Can it better the Ogu-Ndidi-Mikel we saw against Argentina in November 2017?
Now it is Ogu-Etebo-Mikel.... Etebo's midfield energy and combatant qualities standing in for Ndidi's midfield enforcer qualities. It's actually quite balanced on paper. Ogu can dictate play better than Ndidi and Etebo and isn't a bad ball winner (not in Ndidi's league of course). Etebo will finally get a bit more freedom to buzz around compared to when he's played alongside NDIDi. |

Ndidi rested. Iwobi rested.
Etebo to play deep alongside Ogu or maybe Mikel to play deep?
Mikel as AM. If not, Etebo then... But it would be Mikel most likely.
Kalu is back and I hope he is back for good. No more collapse please.
Musa continues on the LW but without the skipper's band as Mikel is present.
Oyibo wall returns.
Ezenwa returns.
Awaziem and Aina aiming to continue their A-one performances.
And of course, Ighalo top strikes. Hoping he gets one or two goals today. Can't be Mikel. He and Ogu will get overan. Mikel is playing as a 10 again. |

IronGalaxy: Lol, don't lie Iwobi is no regular, he's a bit part player at best and you need to check comments from Arsenal fans what they really think of him, you'll be humbled., Mustafi and Xhaka are also crappy players and they start from time to time. You really need to stop acting like everyone who plays in Europe is some Pele or something
Our league is made of crap players and yet many players from the continent have used it as their springboard to Europe. Your Emenike played in our second division before moving to Europe, check how many players in the Afcon come from our league, your number goalie also plays in our league as well and you have the guts to downplay it
There are myraid of reasons why our players don't move much to Europe. Some of our players refuse to move to countries like Greece, Turkey , Belgium etc because SA clubs can match them in salaries. It is to the detriment of our players but it's one of the reasons . We still have talent across Europe though, Photo, Dolly in France, that Leshabane boy at Leicester, Foster at Monaco, we have Mathews at Borussia Dortmund etc, it's just that Bafana coaches have not alway chosen the right players
Another lie, Egypt doesn't have a lot of players in Europe, only Salah and El Neny play for reputable European clubs the rest are home based dominated by Al ahly players , in fact North Africans have always boasted national teams dominated by home players while Algeria"s players surge into Europe' s big time is a recent phenomenon
Dean was playing in English league one so what? Don't act as if Nigerian players play for Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern et al. Odemwingie was playing at Rotherham not long ago as well and some of your players could be found at backwaters such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand etc. Football is football, this European fixation is boring. Zambia won the Afcon with a team dominated by PSL beating a star studded Ivory Coast led by Drogba
Lastly, the fact that Tau was loaned by Brighton has nothing to do with his footballing prowess but has all to do with red tape. The team that Tau plays for is owned by the same owner that owns Brighton so since Tau can't play in the Premiership owing to permit issues it only makes sense that he plays for this team, they wouldn't buy him if they weren't interested in him. Would a Premiership directly buy a player plying his trade for Kano pillars to begin with? Iwobi is competing against Ozil, Mkhitaryan Aubamayeng and Ramsey outwide and in the middle. Let's not pretend like he wasn't great at the first half of last season. You're using Tau bossing the Belgian second division as a means to prove he's better than Iwobi when Onyekuru, Moses Simon and Osimhen have done the same at the FIRST division? You probably only come here to troll because if you've gone through this thread - you'd see that Akpeyi isn't rated that highly and it's a common consensus that goal keeping is where we need to work on. If Ikeme didn't retire - Akpeyi wouldn't be first choice. He was 3rd choice at the world cup and is only starting because Ezenwa is injured. This isn't the 2000s fella. The PSL is weak and I dare you to name 5 players apart from Serero and Mothiba to a certain extent who have gone straight from the PSL to boss a top 10 league in europe? Didn't Ekisten Pule just move to Azerbaijan? Are you trying to say Azerbaijan pays more? Why didn't he move to England like Mabiziela did back in the day? Andile Jali went from being a big dog in pirates and couldn't perform that well in Belgium. The only player I can agree that could've moved from the PSL but didn't because of pay and his club fucking him over in the last decade was Teko Modise. Iwobi is two years younger than Tau and is playing at the highest level. |

charlesemeka85: Barring a last minute change of mind, coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has made four changes to his lineup for their final group game against Madagascar, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
The duo of Ahmed Musa and Oghenekaro Etebo are out due to accumulated bookings for the tie. Meaning captain Obi Mikel will return to the midfield with Samuel Chukwueze set to step in for Ahmed Musa.
In defence, Kenneth Omeruo has been informed by the coach that he won’t be considered for the game against Madagascar as he will be given a rest after playing the full duration of the two games they’ve played so far in the tournament.
Omeruo has emerged as one of the first pick at centre back and will return for the round of 16 but for the game against Madagascar, Rohr has decided to revert to the “Oyibo Wall” partnership of William Troost-Ekong and Leon Balogun.
Despite his impressive performance against Guinea, Moses Simon has been given a rest by Rohr for the final group game with the fit again Samuel Kalu set to start in his place after making a full recovery from the issue that made him slump during the training of the team on the eve of their first group game against Burundi. Onyekuru has to start on the left. This line up has no one who can run in behind. Rohr should learn how to balance the team. If Kalu is starting, then Onuachu or Osimhen should be starting. |

Tau might play in the Belgian league but he's far better than both Mikel and iwobi and I'm not the first to allude to this in this thread. There's nothing Tau can do with the ball that I haven't seen Iwobi do. His end product isn't better. What are you on about? Tau can't even dream of bossing the Belgian league like the likes of Onyekuru and Moses Simon have done. |
