The main problem we have is in midfield. A front 3 of Musa - Ighalo - Moses Simon/ Samuel Kalu isn't bad at all in terms of profiles. It's that midfield that is killing us. Etebo and Ndidi have done well but I still think that pivot isn't balanced enough. |

charlesemeka85: Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has suggested that John Obi Mikel is available for selection when his side battle South Africa in an Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal clash in Cairo on Wednesday evening.
The former Chelsea midfielder sat out the round of 16 match against Cameroon after failing to recover from a knee injury he suffered in the 2-0 loss to Madagascar nine days ago.
As far as injuries are concerned, Rohr stated at Tuesday's press conference that every single player trained in the penultimate workout on Monday, meaning the likes of Mikel, Jamilu Collins and Abdullahi Shehu can be called upon to face Bafana Bafana.
Injury or no injury, the Super Eagles captain is believed to be behind Arsenal's Alex Iwobi in the pecking order of playmakers while Oghenekaro Etebo and Wilfred Ndidi are the preferred defensive midfielders.
Providing an injury update, Rohr said : ''Now our offensive department is on a good level, we had some players who were injured, who did not have so many matches to play, who were fasting, who were sick.
''The preparation was not easy but now it is the first time yesterday in the training session that we had 23 players participating.
''Everybody is fit now so it will be very difficult for me to select the team.''
Mikel earned his 89th Nigeria cap in the 2-0 loss to Madagascar on June 30 and made way for Alex Iwobi 14 minutes into the second half. Mikel will be very useful in a game like this. |

tbaba1234: Rohr on Osimhen and Onyekuru:
"Onyekuru and Osimhen are young and they are here to learn. Musa and Ighalo are experienced so they are the ones to start. For Onyekuru, he has to first fight with Simon and Chukwueze for a position and then maybe for the central position. For Osimhen, he has to be stronger. In training, any touch he falls down. So I tell him to be strong" Onyekuru is a LW. At least Rohr sees him as an option through the middle. He should be a like for like(albeit with more potential) replacement for Musa. He should've started both against Madagascar and if they flopped he'd have pointed to it as a reason. I said Osimhen only made the squad as a precaution in case Ighalo wasn't fit enough and people didn't believe. We have wasted a valuable place that would've gone to a midfielder. |

Icon79: h my goodness, I have NEVER seen a coach who bash his players the way Gernot Rohr denigrates his players. First it was Iheanacho and now it's Osihmen. Even if you have something against your player, do you have to broadcast it to the entire world? This man should have been fired immediately after the Argentina mach.
O pari It's obvious dude is irritated by all these questions(he probably reads the comments on here lol) |

OMANBALA1: You started on the wrong note by comparing a well organized and funded Brazil professional league(i guess that's what csl stands for) to the Super Eagles situation. Fact is that Osimhen is our best striker in the just ended season in Europe not Ighalo and Chinese league is no where comparable to Belgian league. Therefore, I maintain the only reason Ighalo is starting has nothing to do with club form...my statement will be further validated when you take in account what a crappy tactician Rohr is. So, dont compare apples and oranges....use the appropriate variables. Many clubs in the Brazilian professional league can give some European super powers a run for their money. Gabriel Jesus waa bought directly from Brazilian league. They have good quality.
Also, using Osimhen's time at Wolfsburg to degrade him is just pathetic....if you know what a teenage players fresh off the boat go through in these European clubs you will hide your face in shame....this is a young man who was a teenager and still learning the basic. There could be a thousand reason why he was not CONSTANTLY played. However , the same Osimhen is in another clubside churning out goals like nobody's business....He who laughs last...while Ighalo was bungled out of premiership.
I see your romance with Southgate....lol CSL means Chinese Super League. |

lexyman: The Coach of SA made the Egyptian team to look Ordinary , he is a good Tactician He's impressed me no lie. I never rated him(thought Ruud Krol would've been a better option) considering how he flopped with a more talented Mzansi side back in 04-05. I think he just took Mashaba's formula and ran with it (keep things tight and hit on the break). |

charlesemeka85: Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Belgian First Division A side Club Brugge have won the race for Nigeria U23 international David Okereke.
Club Brugge have reached an agreement with Italian club Spezia over the transfer of the talented winger who was courted by a host of clubs in the English Premier League.
Southampton, Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Crystal Palace were monitoring the situation of Okereke with a view to a summer move but they have missed out on his services.
The 21-year-old will undergo a medical with Club Brugge on Monday, July 8 ahead of his unveiling by the Blue-Black.
He is highly thought of by Super Eagles boss Gernot Rohr who invited him to beef up the senior national team squad ahead of a friendly against Egypt in March after watching him in action for 12 minutes in an U23 AFCON qualifier against Libya.
Okereke was one of the outstanding performers in the Serie B last season, scoring 10 goals and providing 12 asssits in 30 appearances.
He is represented by renowned Italian agent Patrick Bastianelli, who used to handle the affairs of Odion Ighalo on behalf of Atta Aneke during his time with Udinese. Hmmm don't know what to think of this. I'd rather he moves to Serie A than go to Belgium. Our players need to grab any opportunity they have to play at top leagues. Look how much Aina and Omeruo has improved. Omeruo was wasting him time at Turkey all this while. Put development first when you're young and you can run to China or wherever for you last payday later on(i.e Ighalo) |

somehow: So why are some people expecting us to use fast players against South Africa when we know they are the king of fast play/counter account in this tourney?
They play a lot of counter-attacking football, they pass a lot too and knows how to locate each other. They make few passing mistakes if anyone notice. so I think a 4:4:2 should be used against them. We also need ball holders (Which I doubt we have), so if we can't have a ball holder, can we as well let them have most of the ball so as to stop them from their counter-attacking tactic? You only use counter if you have less of the ball.
Just saying and I am opened to further disecting of these points. That is exactly what Rohr will do. |

komekn: I watched and l found him to be OK but that's all.
His lack of pace for a RB or RWB add to that his limited technical ability leaves a lot to be desired. In the past two games he has-been the WEAKEST LINK.
Quality doesn't hide cream will always rise to the top. If he was exceptional then PSG and other clubs would have been fighting to sign him. But nobody in the end. na TURKEY he find himself.
That in itself tells the story. Don't think Awaziem is weak technically. His lack of a pace is a worry for me but he's been generally ok so far. |

TheSuperNerd: Egbon, please stop this Kain talk. Chukwueze's introduction got the Camerounian bench panicky and they responded immediately by bringing on Anguissa. Anguissa came in to offer more bodies in Cameroun's midfield and defence so as to keep a hold of the game but already Chuks was already drawing players out of position with his off the ball movements entering passing channels that drew about two players with him on Seedorf's new instruction thus creating that space on the right exploited by Awaziem who had all the time in the world to whip in that beauty of a cross that met the chest of musa and was put on a platter into Iggy's path and Viola!!! Nigeria equalises!
So, his immediate impact started with his off-the-ball movements before he started seeinh more of the ball and creating chances upon chances that would have fetched Ighalo four goals in all... One was that sumptuously creative pass that beat over five camerounians locating Iggy who was one on one with Onana and another was from a beautiful corner cross to Ighalo which Onana managed saved on the goal line.
So Egbon, from the moment, Chuks came in, yes, the game did change as balance was altered. Honestly I don't think he had a direct impact in us equalizing. His impact was indirect imo (i.e Seedorf bringing in Anguissa immediately we brought on Samu). Like Forgiveness said - he started becoming dangerous when we equalized and Cameroon started pushing men forward. That's the kind of situation I feel Onyekuru would be even more lethal. |

tbaba1234: These "away" games suit South Africa. They can surrender possession and hit on the counter. They are not so good when they are expected to be on the front foot. Exactly. Rohr is not going to go all out against them. I just pray we don't let them score first. |
