PoliticsRe: After 23yrs In Office, Tunisian President Flees Country Amidst Riots by edicolove: 8:45am On Jan 16, 2011
Sorry Sorry Nigerians posting cowardly posts here on NL. You guys just sit your asses here in front of your computer, insult the government all day and when someone suggest you come out for a revolution what do you say?

"well they might kill us ", "well we are not powerful enough", "well they will shoot at sight". Bloody Whining cowards! This is why Nigeria will never change. Because all of you are cowards and none of you should ever insult any politician again because you are all as guilty as them. Not willing to even give a foot for the struggle. Not willing to sacrifice anything. I guess many of you will not even come out to register let alone vote. You lot make me wanna cry. Where is your determination. I guess it is only on paper. You can post on NL i guess. It costs nothing.

I feel disappointed reading all the lousy cowardly posts above. Something has to happen and I guess sooner or later, the war will come to you guys and you will not be asking if you want to join or not. You will be forced to join or be destroyed. Why do we hate ourselves so much. Why do we hate our country so much. It pains me!
PoliticsRe: 2011: So Begins The Fall Of The ACN In The Southwest! by edicolove: 5:09am On Jan 16, 2011
It is very disturbing to see some people come here and make statements like "PDP has done worse so what ACN is doing doesn't matter" or "Tinubu has to do what he has to do". You guys have shown that you completely lack the moral justification to ever accuse PDP again of any wrong doing. I have been shouting it for a long time that all the parties are the same. I just found out I was wrong. ACN is far worse than PDP. There was no primaries at all from state assembly to presidential. What a mess and a big scam. Mark my words, PDP will sweep most of the west come April.

I wonder why some Yorubas keep trying to form a Yoruba party. This is 2011 not 1979. ACN does not even have secretariats in states like Cross Rovers, Kebbi, Sokoto and many others and you think they will win the presidency? They are a big joke. ANPP and CPC is now bigger than ACN. I just watched the ANPP convention and it was well organised in Abuja like the PDP convention. ACN goes and organise a presidential primaries in Lagos. They keep telling the whole Nigeria that they are nothing but a regional party. Maybe that is what Tinubu really wants. A regional party. I used to respect Ribadu a lot until I saw him contesting on the platform of ACN. This was the same Ribadu that wanted to arrest Tinubu and said Tinubu had a case to answer. Tinubu on the other side accused Ribadu of being used by the then president, OBJ. Now they have become strange bed fellows all in the name of politics. No shame at all. I wont be suprised to see Atiku returning back as it really fits his profile. Sometimes you dont even know who to believe anymore. I feel very sad for Nigeria.

Just when PDP is turning the leaf by conducting very free and fair elections all over the country, ACN is putting their foot on the reverse gear. Shame! Shame!! Shame!!! Jonathan has already written his name on the sands of history by conducting the best election (PDP primaries) Nigeria has ever seen. Even better than June 12. And there is no reason he wouldn't do the same in April because he is going to win by a landslide! Gbam!

I live in Lagos and I love Fashola but I might voe against ACN. They are pathetic and a big let down. Even their supporters who comment here in NL are making a mess of the already bad situation.

Utter nonsense.Done more for africa by leaving nigeria in d dark with 16 billion dollars supposedly spent for power

Done more for africa by leaving nigeria at d brink of war as a result of total break down of discipline that he orchestrated.
Some of you guys in Diaspora have completely lost touch with Naija. Please do visit from time to time. OBJ did not orchestrate total breakdown of discipline. There has been total breakdown of discipline since I was a kid. From Shagari's time till date. That was why Buhari and Idiagbon tried to start a war against indiscipline. Remember? OBJ was the one that actually kept Nigerian from disintegrating in 1999. No other person could hold it together. Like him or not. He was called to the rescue just like he is being called to the rescue in cote d'voire. He was also called to the rescue in the civil war. He was also called to the rescue when Murtala was killed. He never forced his way into becoming the president. Give the man his credit.

And for the power problem, you also dont have a clue. Power has been a problem since I was a kid. The problem of power is a multifaceted and multidimensional one. Those who dont want it to work are working even harder than those who want it to work. The only answer to the power problem is privatization. and I am glad GEJ is pursuing it vigorously. The average Nigerian is too deep in corruption to allow power to work.
PoliticsRe: I Don't Believe The Problem With Nigeria Is Our Leaders by edicolove: 4:57am On Jan 11, 2011
This is one of the best posts i have read in a while. I have been shouting this for a long time. There is hardly anything like good leadership in the world. What you have as good leaders are just leaders who are doing well because the people will bring them down if they do not do well. If you leave Obama alone, he will do crazy stuff like any Nigerian president. maybe even worse because he is human. The heart of man is generally wicked. It doesnt matter if they are Americans or Nigerians. But in advanced countries, they know the people will not take crap from them so they cant misbehave. People will go on the streets and the nation will come to a halt if the leadership misbehaves. In Naija, we celebrate these leaders. We lick their backside. (permit my use of the word). We shout their names in parties. If every Nigerian where to come out and start to stone corrupt people, corruption will stop immediately.

But the truth is, we are a selfish people. We only think of ourselves. We are fake people with big inferiority complex. we celebrate mediocrity. We are too materialistic. Someone says the leaders should show examples. You dont have a clue what you are talking about. If you assume leadership and find out that you have no one to question you, what do you think your human instinct will do. ONE WORD. Embezzle! Don't you see it is more difficult for governors to embezzle in states where you have strong opposition. The problem is never with the leader but with the passive people. If you do not react, nothing will change. You can shout from now till "kingdom come", nothing will change. But like I said, Nigerians do not react because they are corrupt themselves. I feel pain everyday when I hear statements like "if you get there, wont you embezzle too?" These are statements coming from those who say we have bad leaders. Shame on us as a country of cowards. If the kind of things that happen in Nigeria happen in other places, the country would have been brought to a standstill. Nobody would work or do anything till there is a change. But none of you are ready to fight the fight. You sit your arses here is nairaland and make noise. Come out and and stand up for Naija and see if any leader can stand the heat. Let a million people wake up and besiege Aso rock and see if the country will not come to a standstill. But nobody wants to fight because you are all thinking of yourselves. But posterity will not forgive us if we fail to liberate this country. God Help Us All!
PoliticsRe: Ecowas Names Obasanjo Special Envoy To Cote D’ivoire Gbagbo time is up by edicolove: 4:22am On Jan 11, 2011
I think the news media is the biggest confusion that the world has nowadays. OBJ might have his fault but he is not a corrupt man as the media has tried to portray him. There has never been any indictment of OBJ as someone claimed. Only speculations trying to link his aids to him. If you ask those who have worked with Baba, you would know he is not the corrupt type. His faults are known. 1. He can be arrogant. (how many great leaders are not?) 2. He can be brash. 3. He can be loyal to his aids to a fault. He even demonstrated this as far back as the civil war. 4. He can be rigid in his beliefs. But make know mistake, he has done more for Africa than 10 Mandelas. Mandela is an icon and a legend because of what he stands for and what he represents, but he hasn't done much for Africa.

I keep hearing the third term stuff. Where did OBJ ever said he wanted a third term. And if he so desperately wanted it, why didn't he try to destabilize Naija to get it like Gbabo is doing to cote d'voire. I am not saying he might not have wanted it, but there is no sin in wanting it. There is sin in trying to force it on the people which he never did. The national assembly rejected the move and that was it. That is democracy and there is absolutely nothing wrong in that. There is no crime in having an intention to rule for life. There is crime in trying to forcefully enforce it against the wish of the people. I writing this post will like to rule Niaja for life too. But I dont have to destabilize Naija to achieve it. I dont understand the funny bandwagon thinking that goes on in these posts sometimes. That something sounds right or nice or is generally echoed by most people doesn't make it correct. The majority can be wrong, believe me.

Quote from: Big B1 on Today at 02:56:56 PM

At this point, the last thing Nigeria needs is a weak and a dumb dumb leader.

If you truly know uncle Jo, you'll clearly understand why Nigeria can not afford to have him as our leader. Making decision in general isn't compatible with Uncle Goodluck.
His wife is even tougher.

Furthermore, if there is anything promising about Uncle Jo, I think he should have used the few months @ the Aso Rock to send message or redefine himself to the great people of Nigeria.
But it is what it is,you just don't ask a rat to give birth to a lion. The last time I checked, it was impossible and it still is.
so the 20 PDP governors who endorsed him were wasting their time Huh
I have a younger brother who is very quiet but believe me, he is far from dumb. Do not mistake quietness for dumbness. Have you ever heard the proverb "empty vessels make the loudest noise"? I am schooled in human psychology and can tell you that people like GEJ can be very tough. Quiet people are tougher than loud people. Remember the story of the Chicken and the Duck? You have to understand the circumstances under which GEJ came into power. It wasn't very favorable so he had to play it cool until he has solidified himself politically. Give the guy some slack and watch him. One thing I like about the guy is that he is a bridge builder. He has been able to reach across to many people. Do you know what it takes to get the support of the North like he has gotten? And just to add, have you read how the Govs decided to support him? He literally threatened them that he would mess everything up if they betrayed him. He doesn't have to come to the public and try to talk tough. That is Atiku's style and that style has earned him many enemies.

Its not peculiar to Naija. Americans Sing about HATERS, Naija sings about ENEMIES. whats the difference. Google the word "haters" and you go know say naija neva start. Every region have a word for it. Stop picking on naija

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Point of correction please. Americans dont sing about haters. African Americans sing about haters. I guess charity begins at home. You dont find country, pop or rock musicians singing about haters.

On a serious note, it is the result of many years (even centuries) of witchcraft in Africa. We need go come out of it. I hope we do soon because the mentality is really holding Naija back.

I feel sad not only for David Mark but also for our news media and you lot here in Nairaland. You guys are all so uninformed and ignorant and that's why Nigeria suffers. CBN does not spend N300 billion as Mark alleged. Mark should resign for that statement. He just shows that he doesn't even understand the rudiments of economics and government and he shouldn't be presiding over an institution like national assembly. Overheard for CBN and overheard for NASS are 2 different things. for example, CBN can buy government bonds just to mop up the economy and check things like inflation. That doesn't mean they are spending the money on themselves or on projects. Its just economics. But then, the money is still recorded as expenditure against the CBN account. Its like using money to buy money. Its normal economics that government financial institutions all over the world do to regulate the economy. That is a major part of what makes up CBN expenditure. Apart from actual cost to run the organization. The NASS on the other hand spend this money on items like cars, hotel, furniture, etc. If mark does not know this, he doesn't no anything about governance. His comment is too ignorant for a senate president to make. It is a disgrace.

PoliticsArmy Takes Over Ex-militant Camps In Niger Delta by edicolove(op): 4:57pm On Dec 13, 2010
* Ex-militant hands over eight camps in Rivers state

* Militant John Togo still at large after army assault

* Gang leader behind kidnap of schoolchildren killed

PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria, Dec 13 - A former Nigerian militant leader handed eight camps in the Niger Delta to the military over the weekend, part of efforts to prevent new gangs emerging in the oil region after last year's amnesty.

Ateke Tom is the latest former militant leader to surrender his camps after accepting the amnesty, which was partly brokered by President Goodluck Jonathan last August and brought more than a year of relative peace in Africa's biggest oil and gas industry.

But unrest has returned in recent months as new gang leaders emerge. A military raid on the camps of faction leader John Togo this month led to some of the heaviest fighting since before the amnesty, killing civilians and destroying homes.

Along with other ex-gang leaders, Tom now finds himself working with the security forces he long fought, trying to persuade those still carrying arms to surrender. Handing over his camps is intended to stop new gangs using them.

"By following in the footsteps of former colleagues , Ateke has shown that he is indeed committed to ongoing efforts to achieve sustainable peace in the Niger Delta," military taskforce (JTF) commander Charles Omoregie told reporters.

"The JTF calls on other undecided former militant leaders as well as renegade militants like John Togo , to tread the path of peace or face an unpleasant end which is around the corner."

The army, navy and air force were deployed in the three-day assault on Togo's camps at the start of the month. A civil rights group and aid workers said nine civilians were killed, but community leaders have put the death toll much higher.

Elders from the Ayakoromo community, which bore the brunt of the assault on Togo's camp, said on Monday 51 people had been killed and that soldiers had forced villagers to dig mass graves before allowing access to rights groups.

"The massacre in Ayakoromo is a continuation of the campaign by the Nigerian state to suppress and intimidate the people of the Niger Delta," said the statement, signed by community chairman Chief Owolo Onduku and other elders.

DEATH TOLL DISPUTED

The JTF has denied targeting civilians, saying Togo's followers fled into Ayokoromo and engaged the military in a gun battle, catching innocent people in the cross fire.

The security forces have a tense relationship with some communities, and the military has at times sought to deny civilians casualties while activists have exaggerated the toll.

At its peak in early 2006, unrest shut down around a quarter of the OPEC member's oil output. Although production has since partially recovered, infrastructure remains damaged and output is still below the 2.4 million barrels per day averaged in 2005.

Resurgent violence is not just a threat to the industry. It also risks undermining the credibility of Jonathan, the first Nigerian head of state from the oil region, in the run-up to nationwide elections next April.

Security experts say Togo's continued presence in the western Niger Delta is hindering efforts to ensure the amnesty stays on track and keep a lid on the kidnapping and violent crime that make the region so insecure.

Police in Abia state, on the edge of the Niger Delta, said on Monday the JTF had killed a criminal gang leader responsible for kidnapping 15 schoolchildren in October. The children were freed after several days.

Police spokesman Geoffrey Ogbonna said the gang leader, known as Osisikanko, was killed in a gun fight with the security forces on Sunday.

This is an attempt by a click of people to change evetns in the world to their own personal interests. It is not a service to humanity. Wikileaks are only serving their own agenda. How do you serve the public of a nation by publishing the private conversation of their leaders for the whole world, including their enemies to see. Yes their enemies will see it too. Wikileaks is trying to play God and their actions are at best, dangerous and I believe it is a sponsored move by powerful forces trying to change the world in their own interests. Very sad!
