Sisi_Kill: Sigh!Being melodramatic in a public forum will not make you right. I am not a fan of Nollywood but the reason it hasn't improved much is because there are no Nigerians available to change it. All we have are arm chair critics like you and pastor Bakare. Talk is cheap they say and posting on NL is even cheaper. That being said, you have a right to agree with Bakare but that puts you in the elitist group who will not see the poor rise to greatness. The only question I have for you then is, when you seemingly "fought" for the poor in many of your precious posts, were you just a politically correct hypocrite or were you a schemer trying to use the poor to push an agenda like the typical Nigerian politician? Or maybe all of the above? |
Sisi_Kill: Do people really think that having money means you grew up in abundance? I guess you haven't read about the Rockefellers and their upbringing. Despite the fact that their Daddy was one of the richest man in the world. . .the children were on a strict pocket allowance whachumacallit. What is ridiculous about your post is that you speak like Bakare's statement came from a book he wrote. He was speaking to a church filled with all kinds of people. He wasn't speaking to a Lagos business school class. Do stop insulting our sensibilities with statement like "that is what he is talking about". If he needed an interpreter, am sure he can afford one since he is no longer in the demography of "low estate" like he used to be |
tunnytox: Hey time waster I have better things to do with my time than to continuously trying to make you reason like a human. So you are still lurking around? Scramb my friend! That what's you should have done since instead of fooling your old age in public. Some of you don't even know the implications of your statements. Just because etisalat now offers free 20MB, you think you must use it on NL. Ewu man of low estate like you. Duh! |
tunnytox: I understand it must be difficult for someone with low IQ like yours to understand the words of intelligent people. I believe many other readers here can tell who is dull between me and you.So I guess in Bakare's church they conduct an IQ test for people as they come into the church every sunday and send all those with low IQ away so only people with "high IQ" like you remain to hear the words of an "intelligent man". So you do some kind of class profiling in the church abi? You are getting even duller by the second. |
tunnytox: Dude do you understand what is called CLASS? Class is not about money because money can't buy class! That's why you'll see some rich people behaving like money miss road.So according to you people without class should never become great? Do you know hitler had a lot of class? You are very dull. No insult intended |
tunnytox: If his words are interpreted the SAME WAY you and other biased posters interpreted it how come newspapers and many other columnists in several Nigerian newspapers have not see it the same way? I read some of these newspapers this morning and there was no fuss at all about these statements. It's you and many other mischievous posters that are only trying to sensationalise it simply out of your ethinic or religios bias you have for Jonathan. Why for petes sake are you tryin to ascribed some pseudo interpretation to his statement and then you accuse me of interpreting it wrongly. Ok let me post it for you again. <<<Mr. Bakare asserted, “When the shoeless takes over, he does clueless things. When such men of low estate find themselves in power, terrible things begin to happen.” He added, “It is the timidity of the inferior that prods them to cover up. Deep rivers flow in silence.">>> Ok let me list for you some examples of men of low estate throughout history. Barak Obama, Nelson Mandela, Michael Jackson, Mother Terresa, lionel Messi, Bill Gates. |
tunnytox: Did you even bother to read the full text of his speech and understand it without prejudice or you just want to come here to show like others that you're anti PTB?Are you saying he didn't use those words? I don't understand what you are bickering about. I didn't form the words. He did. So except somehow you are telling us with proof that he didn't say them, then stop galivanting around. |
A-ZeD:How can such men refer to one person? Is men singular or plural? Please educate me. Maybe I will learn something new today. You never know! Lol |
tunnytox: Ask the op that I quoted why he thought Bakare couldn't have said that in a developed world, I wonder what he meant by developed world because in those developed world political arena I hear even more than what Bakare said all the time.If you ever use such words in the developed world as a practising politician, your career is over. Even your own party men will hand you out to dry. You will even be sued by several NGOs for hate speech against a demography. In fact, you can't even say that as a pastor. Obama had to keep a big distance from his former pastor so he wouldn't get fried |
tunnytox: 100% GabbageNormally, I don't respond to pettiness and side stepping. But for the benefit of many on here I will respond. The essense of talking in public is communication. Clear and concise. If people have to go back to school to do PhD to understand Bakare's statement, then he has failed woefully as a communicator and public speaker. Please do not indict him more. His words are simple as can be "when such men of low estate" does not need to be explained any further. That demography is probably around 80% or more of the Nigerian population. |
There is a phenomenon in sociology where people say or do things in a crisis because if favours their cause but after the crisis, they suddenly become a victim of their own creation. I don't want to go into too much grammar here so I have made it simple. That is the situation Bakare and his fellow goons are putting themselves. When you say such things, you forget that millions of people including you have their whole futures built on such a principle. The whole principle of the new world is founded on equality and equal opportunity for all. If you take that away, you take the world backwards about 300 years at least. No matter how you think or what your personal opinion is, GEJ rise to power is still one of the most imspiring stories of hope for the down trodden. It doesn't matter whether GEJ does well or not. That's a different story altogether. If you negate that, then we might as well go back to racism, slavery and class segregation. |
Attempting to defend Bakare's statement is very ridiculous. The only defense anyone can put forward is to somehow prove that he didn't use those words. I am amazed that some have written pages to explain a statement that doesn't need explanation. It is not prose. It is as direct and bare and simple as can be. The defining 2 words are "such men". Those 2 words remove any doubt that he was referring to a demography. The demography in this case is "men of low estate". There is absolutely no ambiguity is his statement. Forget about even being a pastor, no educated man should say such a thing. It is even worse than the "phone is not for the poor" statement from David Mark, years ago. The bible truly said "in the multitude of words there will always be terrible blunders". One of the problem of talking too much is that you will eventually reveal your inner convictions and beliefs. You might pretend for a lond time but eventually, you will lay yourself bare. If Bakare had said this in the developed world, he would have become public enemy number one. He is lucky that Nigeria is a divided place were people take partisan and tribal stance. But posterity will not forgive him for those words. It will hunt him for life. |
kingoflag: This Niger-Delta Oil that you people love to use as reference over and over again. . . . as Billions are going into pockets of the Politicians and their cronies, HOW MUCH HAS GONE INTO YOUR ACCOUNTS?!Last time I checked, the billions are not going into GEJ 's pocket because funny enough, he doesn't own any oil block. The owners of the oil block mostly live in the northern part of Nigeria and a few come from the south west. They are not Niger Deltans. Niger Deltans are are very few among the people collecting Nigeria's money and shipping it abroad. This corruption that has been going on for decades was created and established by the likes of IBB, OBJ, Abacha, Danjuma, etc. Danjuma sold his for $500 million dollars. I can't even begin to talk about it. What did Danjuma deserve or do to warrant collecting an oil block worth that stagerring amout for free. I mean you guys are very funny. Is it GEJ that gave it to him? Is it not money that should have been used tp develop the Niger Delta and other parts of Nigeria? What's wrong with all of you self? Was it not from Niger Delta billions and trillions were generated to build Lagos and Abuja during the military era? Was it not the Abuja rush rush project that plunged our economy into the mud? Some of you are either children or you need your brains checked. If you think you can come here and tell us that GEJ is the cause of Nigeria's problem, then you must be delusional. We know what the problem is and we will change it, step by step |
naturalwaves: The major problem u guys av is 'a communication gap' and it is a simple one.U see,Bakare's intellect is too high for a lot of people to decipher and that is what is causing d gap but I'll try my lil best to help u a bit. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SAYING; WHEN THE SHOELESS TAKES OVER and WHEN A SHOELESS TAKES OVER.Pastor T's statement is referring to a person(Jonathan). He is not saying that people from humble backgrounds cannot make it.U get d point?......Example; If I say,wen a footballer steps on d field,he scores goals. This is a general statement and applies to all footballers but If I say, when the footballer steps on d field,he scores goals means that I am referring to a particular footballer and sensible people around will ask me who?So u see,Bakare's statement is not a general one and it is not saying that people from humble background cannot make it,it was meant for Jonathan. If atall U want to then go on to debate anything,it should be about maybe or not his statement is true.Is Jonathan really clueless? If U ask me,I will say A VERY BIG YES,JONATHAN WAS SHOELESS AND HE IS CLUELESS.Seriously dude, what did you score in your WAEC English language or JSS III english, whichever applies. Because what you posted up there is one of the most ridiculous English explanation I have ever seen. And to imagine that you termed it "higher" level of understanding is the pinacle of absurdity. This is what we call ignorance gone on rampage! I don't even know where to start to reply you from. It feels a little bit demeaning having a conversation with you, seriously. Please get a copy of brighter grammer and learn some comprehension! Duh! |
Fhemmmy: Why would he be calling for the removal of a president when he has not really done anything. And what exactly did Yaradua do right? Did he build infrastructure? Fix roads? Build or fix schools? Fix power? Fix agriculture? Stop corruption? What? Even the amnesty that he is giving credit for he did not implement. All the funds for amnesty training and payments were doled out during GEJ time. So what's your point? Why didn't GEJ fight him? There is a reason people respected Gani. He was never partisan with his criticism! He was never petty too! |
phildon: As much as I cherish the uprightedness of our amiable Pastor, I am honestly disapointed in his attack on the humble upbringing of GEJ and his wife. All he said about this govt are right though. Please what part of what he said is the truth? That the poor cannot rise to greatness? That the north and south west should continue to harvest ND because they invested their money there pre colonial days? That Nigeria was formed by God and nations cannot split because they are formed by God? That he realised that GEJ was put there by God but still contested against him? I am trying to find real truth here, seriously. To find any facts in his message is even harder. Please show me the truth there, abeg. |
Honestly I am still laughing from the article. Seriously, this Aregbe guy should be wearing Barney costume. He is a clown. He should be at the circus. Please somebody tell him the politics of announcement is long gone. People are aware now. Anouncing O this and O that everyday is not development. Before you start to promise anything to your citizens, you must generate funds and put basic structures on the ground. All these superflous white elephant projects he keeps annoucing everyday is just embarrasing. Oshiomole, his fellow ACN guy never announced anything one day. He just kept doing is thing. Someone even said he is buying 150 000 tablets for students. That will go down as one of the most stup1d thing ever done by a governor in Nigeria. How can you buy 150 000 laptops for students. Do you even have any idea what the problem of Nogerian education system is? School without chairs and boards and good teachers? You want to create 150 000 yahoo boys? This is just hilarious. Lol |
inquisitiv: For the guy that asked for the points he raised, thanks for being mature and not abusing me or telling me 2 shut up and 4 dis reason I will reply u,Bro, I tried hard to understand your post but I couldn't. No pun or insult intended. Maybe you should lay it out again. On the other hand, I want to say for the upteenth time, insulting a mans family and tribe is not criticism. Nigeria is not the only country in the world with opposition. Republicans attack Obama everyday but they don't insult his family, dressing, or tribe. You people need to get it. You can criticise a president all day but stop insulting him and his family and ethnic group. This ethnic group and region has being ra.p.e.d for over 50years. It is enough! The azz is really sore now! Thank you for your understanding! |
inquisitiv: I'm not his follower, I don't like his buhari, I dislike CPC, but d man brought up salient points and some dumb fellows who don't understand that their lives r being messed up by these vagabonds in power are talking tribe, religion, gender and what BS have u. I still say that the actions of GEJ is typical when poor men SUDDENLY see demselves in power. When a poor man WORKS HARD, his behaviour is different. In general, dis grab all mentality is common among the poor and dat is why most people reason on dat base level. What salient points did he bring up? That the poor cannot rise to greatness? That the north and south west should continue to harvest ND because they invested their money there pre colonial days? That Nigeria was formed by God and nations cannot split because they are formed by God? That he realised that GEJ was put there by God but still contested against him? I am trying to find real points here, seriously. To find any facts in his message is even harder. Please show me the points, abeg. |
inquisitiv: I'm going to comment again in Nairaland, something I hardly do. I can see some people playing the Niger-Delta ethnic card here to wipe up ethnic sentiments...stupid and absolutely stupid. I can see some playing d religion card viz-a-viz a pastor speaking out against evil government...more stupid and I can see some playing d gender card cos a rightly annoyed man spoke up against a greedy, indolent & insanely corrupt woman....and I agree with him dat paupers, poor men steal without conscience when given access to wealth and power. Its a mentality disease that exists among the poor. Its a fact.Maybe you didn't read the article before you commented. 1. It is Bakare that brought up the ethnic card. He attacked a section of Nigeria and defended another section 2. He also brought up the religion card. He said with his own mouth that God put GEJ there. Maybe you shouldn't have posted since you didn't read or didn't understand the article. |
Bible prophets were not the people's activists. 1. They spoke God's will for the people, not the people's will. It wasn't a democracy 2. Their message was always to the whole country, not the leaders. The principle was that if the people repent, God will bring a change. If the people repented and the leaders refused, the change will normally include a change in leadership. 3. Prophets were never petty and never personalised their messages. They were honorable men. 4. In fact, there was a different anointing for prophets, kings and priests. Which one is Bakare right now? |
edicolove: Too many contradictions and blunders in Bakare's statements: |
crackhouse: Nigerians na wa o. Make una leave this pastor alone nah. The man is saying the truth and u guys are here talking what i don't know. How many of u will be courageous enough to tell the govt their sins? Even in the bible john the baptist spoke against the evil people in govt then so what the heck are u guys talking about?.Last time I checked, John the baptist was not a political party candidate seeking for power and John did not insult them and their families. He spoke against the system. Noble men don't insult leaders and their families even in the time of war. Only men without honour do that |

Kobojunkie: God factor also made Saul a King. Yet God factor also brought Saul down . . . killed him too.David had the opportunity to kill Saul 3 times but declined. He even killed the servant who claimed he had killed Saul. He never as much as said a single evil word against Saul. I don't like discussing the God factor in this debate but if you go down that route, you will be very very wrong and will only indict Bakare more. Let's just leave it at logical social political reasoning. |
Too many contradictions and blunders in Bakare's statements: 1. From his message, the poor cannot attain greatness. They are disqualified by their poverty. 2. He admitted that God put GEJ there but he still contested against him. Did he just discover God put him there or did he try to go against God's will when he contested against GEJ? 3. He claimed the Niger Delta benefited from pre colonial Nigeria but forgot that the North and south west has harvested billions of dollars from the investment since the 70s. IBB alone siphoned $12 billion during the gulf oil windfall. And over this same period, the ND has been totally devastated. The regions he is talking about were not devastated but rather developed to an extent. So how long and how much does it take to pay back? 4. He said Lord Lugard did not form Nigeria and quoted a bible passage that God forms the boundary of Nations. So what happened to nations that have divided and are still dividing ( USSR, Germany, Sudan, Ethiopia, etc). Did God not form their boundaries or has God changed his mind? If the later is true, can God not change his mind then on Nigeria? The last man that spoke like this was Obama's former pastor who Obama had to distance himself from. He almost cost Obama his election because Americans don't tolerate stuff like this. Funny how some say Tunde Bakare is a true man of God more than other Pastors but the last time I checked, Pastor Adegoye has triggered the building of a whole new city, transforming millions in the process. Pastor Oyedepo is building what is practically an new world class city inside Nigeria. If you step into Canaan Land, you will be awed what you will see. Absolutely visionary development that was built purely by Nigerians. You might not like the guy, but you cannot deny his ingenuity. These men don't talk much. What you see about them on the papers are journalists trying to make news off them but they are inspiring and leading millions to greatness and generating more jobs than some state governments in Nigeria. I have never seen any thing that Bakare has done for society apart from criticisms. At least Gani criticized and put his words to action. Talk they say is cheap! Smh! |
One of the most ridiculous ideologies I have heard is the ideology that the poor are poor because of the rich. It is a despicable excuse for failure in life. Even the most corrupt free societies like Switzerland have many poor people. Some people come in contact with opportunities and advantage but many still fall flat on their face even with such opportunities. I have seen countless people go from millions, even billions to near zero. Threads like these only encourage people to remain poor and never aspire for greatness. In todays world, you can never really be big by being nice in business. Bill Gates, Slim Hellu, Steve Jobs, Mark Zukerberg, Google chaps, etc, are all business sharks. Their motivation is not to create porvety but to create empires. Their activities affect many people differently. It puts some out of work and creates opportunities for others. As a man, you are solely responsible for how you harness these opportunities in your favor. Sometimes, the biggest problem of the poor is stup1d pride. |
Billyonaire: Guy, there is no time to rhetoric now, I didnt even read what you were typing, you responded to a messaged I attributed to someone else. Today, I am just watching movies and trying to be happy. I have no time to put more lights into the budget analysis, an Economic Czar, Ngozi Iweala has already done that. Every any educated person will understand enough to pay attention to an Economic Liahona of World Bank echelon. If you do not listen to such great mind, who am I to enlighten you better.Badt sharp guy! Killing them softly. Wicked! |
The really sad thing about NL is that it could actually have been a very revolutionary and useful tool to move Nigeria forward. But unfortunately, it has become a we against them, pull them down campaign from day one. we could have all join hands to put pressure on our leaders to perform but all that has been lost in the "our car is bigger than your car" mentality. Like I have always said, the president should be duly criticized but not insulted or blackmailed. They are 2 different things. I challenge people like kobojunkie, if you truly love Nigeria, let's come together and put up a tool that Nigerians can use to monitor work done by their politicians. A sincere tool and information pool. No partisanship. I can provide the hosting platform. No penny asked of you. I can assist in getting true figures, not sahara figures and El Rufai statistics. We critically access everyone, not the Fashola is good, GEJ is bad politics syndrome. If you truly love Naija like you claim, let's go there! |
Kobojunkie: As I was saying . . .Nigerian people don't care about these things. They only care about having these projects work for them. The market woman don't care about figures. Neither does the the okada man or youth corper. They just want to see things work. Its only the media, politicians and critics like kobojunkie sitting somewhere in diapora that want to see figures so they can use that for their work. The truth is, while focusing on the work done, the figures will always be available for each project in their various ministries. So we need serious monitoring teams that will actually monitor these projects, just like we monitor elections. Ordinarily, the host communities should be the ones monitoring them but the average Nigerian doesn't care or bother and yes, many of them aint so literate to keep up. |
Dotman01: Can't or Won't?The house can't impeach the president. Only the NASS can impeach the president. |
Reptyle: So apart from the "your word against mine" testimony from Otedola who is the prime prosecution witness, and his cut and join video, what other evidence does the police really have against Farouk to guarantee a conviction at the end?Why are you drawing us back? Why? Have you been living under a rock? Why? |
It wasn't until I got that if things aren't literally explained, laid out bare, busted wide open, stripped naked, most people don't get it that I stopped getting angry. . . but ya know what, that's a story for another day
) and they are worried about the state of the nation, their future, their children's future. What do ya expect him to talk about in times like this. . . the Story of Noah's Ark or Samson's long hair?
