CrimeAbakaliki Is Currently On Fire! by edogu(op):
Nwoba Chika Nwoba
The information I am getting now is that Abakaliki, Ebonyi State Capital is going through attack by men suspected to be members of the IPOB.

According to the report with picture evidence, the men in their numbers invaded the state capital, shooting and have so far burnt down the Central Police Station, Onu-Ebonyi in Abakaliki. (The police station court remanded me recently.)

Report has it that upon all the firepower men of the Nigeria Army are challenging them with, they have continued to unleash mayhem on the state capital, their bodies repelling bullets.

Recall that the Governor of Ebonyi State, Mr David Umahi through his Special Assistant on Youth Mobilization had four days shared cutlasses and axes to members of the Akubaraoha Youths and Neighbourhood Watch officers to occupy the streets of Abakaliki and ensure that there's no further attack on the state. This afternoon, they are nowhere to be found to confront the rampaging assailants.

Information has it that the streets of Abakaliki are being deserted as the Ebonyi Int'l Market, Abakaliki has been vacated by traders. The state capital is on fire with the hoodlums engaging security personnel fire for fire.

The picture below showcases the CPS being burnt down by the assailants.

He's right. Engr. Dave have proscribe all unions (ASUU, NASU etc) apart from SUG in EBSU until further notice and asked all workers to resume work immediately. He also approved the payment of 80% of their outstanding allowance abi salary.
I still maintain what I said earlier. He was just playing to the gallery. He doesn't have such power. He even threatened to sack any lecturer who fail to resume work. How do you threatened them when you have not paid their three months salaries. What's the guarantee that if they accept such arrangement, it will not continue even when things stabilizes. That was the same thing he did at College of Education, Ikwo. Till today, what they are receiving as salary compared to their colleagues in other institutions can be described as peanuts. Initially, he threatened to lock up the the university and go with the key. My brother, it won't work. He tried to meander his way using few persons who tagged themselves as "Divine Mandate Professors", but failed. EBSU have never had it this bad.

Under Sam Egwu and Elechi's tenure as Governors, the monthly subvention to university was around 250million. Today, the monthly subvention is now between 100 and 150 million naira. To add to the injury, the current Vice Chancellor happens to be rubber stamp.

In that address he made to the endsars protesters, he claimed to have released 500 million naira for their salaries. Even with the 80% proposed by him, the money cannot cover for the three months. I guess you don't know Dave Umahi very well. He can't be trusted.

It's not a scam. The FG was meant to release this money towards the end of 2019 and early 2020 but due to strike/lock-down, it was kept aside temporary.

Misleading Headline.
Before you celebrate, read the whole article. Obviously the FG wants the strike to linger on.
Not when the government thinks the strike contributes in fueling the #endsars protest.

30 Billi gang

Bad news for NAAT, SAANU AND NASU who didn't join ASUU in the strike.

It seems the University truly belongs to ASUU members alone.

Anytime ASUU wails on any issue for long, government ends up releasing billions to them.
And other union will only get less than 10% from the money, even though they have more population than ASUU members.

This bully, discrepancy, intimidations and disparities is everywhere.
Even among health workers. Doctors vs. nurses, pharmacists etc.
In life, if you want peace, you got to prepare for war. I'm not in support of this. But then how do you expect ASUU to consider them when the fight for revitalization and earned allowance were fought by ASUU alone. In case you don't know, those lecturers who enrolled into IPPIS, may not be considered when it comes to disbursement of earned allowance. It happened in UNIZIK and nothing happened. If you are not a member of ASUU, no earned allowance for you. The union will always tell you that the earned allowances were due to collective efforts. If you want yours go to Abuja.

CrimeMoment A Bank Manager Was Shot Dead After Being Caught Sleeping With Another Man by edogu(op): 11:39am On Oct 16, 2020
A video making rounds online showed moment Ivan Kituuka, the manager of Housing Finance bank (a Ugandan commercial bank) was shot dead in cold blood.

Ivan was shot dead by the distraught husband of the lady he was allegedly sleeping with. Prior to him being murdered, the lady's husband identified as Mr Ssozi had allegedly written a letter to him, telling him to stay away from his wife (if you missed the story, read here).

Ssozi clearly stated in the letter that he will shoot Ivan Kituuka in the head since he has refused to stop sleeping with his wife named Dorothy Nametubi Ssozi. According to him no going back on his decision to shoot Ivan with at least two bullets.

Ssozi has since fulfilled his threat as a video of the bank manager being shot dead by a group of men has gone viral. He also released a video of Ivan allegedly sleeping with his wife.

EducationStrike: FG To Release N30bn Earned Allowances To ASUU by edogu(op): 10:53am On Oct 16, 2020
The Federal Government has agreed to release N30 billion as part payment of the Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Sen. Chris Ngige. Minister of Labour and Employment said this at the end of a meeting between the Federal Government and ASUU on Friday in Abuja.

“The Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) was committed to release N30 billion on or before Nov. 6.

“The remaining N10 billion would be spread equally over the two tranches to be paid in May 2021 and February 2022 respectively. The OAGF should quickly conclude the verification of figures of EAA claims so as to clean up the figures from 2014 to 2020.

“To this end, a committee would be constituted by NUC to develop a template that would capture all the agreed allowances in the 2009 Agreement for all the Unions in the Universities.

“Thereafter, the OAGF and the National University Commission (NUC) are to quickly conclude the verification of the EAA figures, so as to defray the payment from 2014 to 2020. ASUU is to work with the OAGF and NUC to achieve that by the end of December,” he said.

He noted that the process of mainstreaming of the EAA into annual budget using the agreed formula shall be activated.

He also said that the NUC and Ministry of Education are to coordinate the activation process immediately and should be concluded by Nov. 6th.

Ngige added that the National Assembly has agreed to implement the process of mainstreaming provided the amount involved is sent in as quickly as possible by the Ministry of Education.

The minister also said that both parties agreed on the issue of funding for the revitalisation of public universities.

“In spite of the economic downturn as a result of COVID-19 pandemic, government have offer N20 billion payable by the end of January 2021, ” he said.

He said that ASUU also agreed to take the offer to its members for consideration and revert by Oct. 21.

“The Minister of Education will follow up with the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning on its earlier Memo to Mr President on sources of alternative funding for revitalisation to facilitate the process of additional funding of the University system.

“This is with a view to reactivating the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of 2013 as agreed in the Memorandum of Action (MoA) of 2019,” he said.

Ngige, however, said it was agreed that on the issue of Salary Shortfall that ASUU will confirm and report at the next meeting.

On the state universities, it was agreed that the NUC Act will be amended in order to strengthen its regulatory capacity.

It was agreed that ASUU will work with NUC on this and then involve the relevant Committee of the National Assembly.

He noted that on the payment of EAA to ASUU members at the University of Ilorin that the issue has been resolved.

Ngige however noted that the meeting was informed that the visitation panels to Federal Universities have been approved by Mr President, but they have not been gazetted.

He said that the Federal Ministry of Education is to ensure gazetting within two weeks on or before Oct. 29th.

“The meeting agreed that the Panel will be inaugurated latest by the end of November and the Panel will have a four to six weeks mandate to finish its work by Dec. 31st and submit two reports per university covering five years periods of 2011 – 2015 and 2016 – 2020,” he said.

Ngige also revealed that government renegotiating team would be reconstituted on or before Oct. 31, and the renegotiation will be concluded on or before Dec. 31.

On the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), the meeting was informed that ASUU has met its timeline regarding the first stage of the initial demonstration of the efficacy of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) to government.

The meeting also agreed that if UTAS passed all the integrity test, which involve the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), it would be adopted for the payment of the University staff.

Meanwhile the meeting could not agree on how payment would be done for ASUU members during the transitional period of UTAS tests.

It said that the government side again appealed to ASUU to enroll on IPPIS platform in view of the Presidential directive that all Federal Government employees should be paid via IPPIS.

It added that they can thereafter be migrated to UTAS whenever certified digitally efficient and effective with accompanying security coverage.

The ASUU maintained that given ASUU’s invention of UTAS, it should be exempted from IPPIS in the transition period.

Also on the issue of withheld salaries of ASUU members, the meeting agreed that Government will pay this money as soon as the mode of payment is agreed upon by both parties.

The meeting is to reconvene on Oct. 21 for ASUU to report back on the decision of her National Excecutive Counclil (NEC), in order to facilitate the calling off of their strike. (NAN)

PoliticsWhere Does Governor Umahi Gets Money For Projects? by edogu(op): 9:24am On Oct 06, 2020
You want to know how he gets his money? Ok!
-No promotion for workers for the past five years.
-Loans from African Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank etc
-Use of Caretaker Committee Chairman both in his early terms as a Governor.
-Non-implementation of minimum wage of 18000 except for the last one of N30000.
-Non-payment of gratuities to retirees. The bailout funds which was approved by the President Buhari specifically for workers' welfare were not properly utilized. Retired workers were paid 20% of their gratuity from that fund. This is after going through excruciating pain of documentation upon documentation.
-Introduction of a cut-throat tax for Ebonyians.
- Most of the construction works are implemented using direct labour. Unfortunately, it is alleged that his company happens to be the major beneficiary.
Could you believe:
Up till this moment, university workers are yet to receive their three months salaries not minding the fact that the state has been receiving allocation from the FG.

What is the essence of building (substandard) flyover bridges when we've dilapidated school buildings that needs upgrade.

You see some of the projects currently being implemented by him are unnecessary.
-What the essence of ecumenical centre when we have an existing International Conference Center.
-What's the essence of having new stadium when you have one already.

Commendation:
-I must commend him for the road constructions currently going on the state. You need to visit other states in the South East to appreciate him.

- He has done well in promoting agriculture especially rice farming in Ebonyi State. Under his administration, sale of foreign rice in state is considered a TABOO. If you are caught, OYO will become your middle name.

- Ebonyi State was already in the map. However, most of the news were usually negative. His administration contributed immensely in burnishing the image of state
