I totally align with you on this. Catalonia operates a regional government and their leaders are fully representing the people by fighting to want out of Spain. Britain pulled out from the subtle confederation of the EU because she aligned with her people. Iraqi Kurds have powerful people who want out just as their people and while it would take a lot of time to see this happen, it would eventually.

I was watching Aljazeera over the weekend and I could remember the news concerning Catalonia and another referendum coming up. The people are riled up but the Spanish government arrested a whole lot of their regional government officials and released them temporarily after slapping them with 'financial misappropriation'.

The Catalan referendum would hold but it would not mean a thing like the first. Worst still, Catalonia would experience another form of maltreatment which would transcend onto the football pitch as always.

Sadly, the UN backs out of secession calls and tend to play dumb because she does not want to annoy anyone. While the UN claim right to self determination and association, she would readily pretend to calls of war and violence over secession until genocide plays out.

it's almost impossible to disintegrate a country peacefully, just watched ajazeera this evening when a Kurdish girl of 18 was saying she was happy she voted. Turkish government are fully in support of Iraq, so Kurdish can't go far if they plan going to war with the central government.

UN only flex muscles on weak countries/state , as for the Catalonia referendum I don't think the Spanish government is ready to let go.

I saw the referendum take place on Aljazeera few minutes ago and despite the fact that the Kurds are excited, claiming the moment is historic, Turkey has made it known that the result of the referendum (most likely to support the secession of Iraqi Kurds) is not binding and does not hold water.

Iraq is hyper already and the U.S. is scared because this would divert attention from the dreaded ISIS.

Sadly, Erdogan's moves are greatly similar to Buhari's and it is no surprising because every world leader out there would protect his or her interest.

Which oil company does not have office in Niger Delta. All of the main offices are in either Warri or PH. when oil expats come to ndelta back in the day they have to have heavy security or they might be kidnapped which is not the case in lag or else where.



But they all like to have main office in lagos or abuja for convenience.

I have always advocated for an Urhobo State, no more, no less. The idea of sharing states with other ethnicities is not productive in a nation like Nigeria where ethnocentrism reigns supreme.

Our leaders need to see things from a better perspective. There's no point sharing a state with Itsekiris (who don't mean us well as this thread even shows), Ijaws (who already have their own state) and I daresay Isoko (whose political machinations do not align with ours to a large extent).

Yes the Urhobos are in Delta South but as minorities in Warri south for instance, they occupy only about three wards out of thirteen . We the not have issues with Urhobos either other than political. Delta central voted massively for Uduagha (really? they voted for Ogboru more) because of the Ibori factor. The Ibori political machine still has a strong hold on Delta politics and Uduaghan simply rode on that.

Even during ibori regime Urhobos voted massively for Ogboru, especially those from ethiope east, okpe, and uvwie axis, that doesn't mean they didn't vote for uduagha.

Why are uhrobo people not agitating for delta central state ? Any lumping of delta south with delta central to form a new state will not be welcome by Itsekiris because we see it as a ploy for the uhrobo's to dominate such a state because of their numerical strength. The Uhrobo will simply dominate affairs at the state level and rule the new state as if it's their private estate. It will be reminiscent of what is going on in Benue state where the Tiv takes precedence over any other ethnic group in Benue state. The idoma people can attest to what I am saying.

1. How have state creation improved the state of the geographical space called Nigeria since 1960?
2. Will creation of more states improve thr Current situation of the country?

Yes I get your point, state creation is not the way out, going back to regional system of government is one big way in solving our problem as a nation, we can restructure in a way that each state is allowed to cater for her needs, provide security for her people, and pay some certain tax to the central government.

Anioma State should be created and zoned to the SE for equity to reign.

I also agree that the oil companies should move their headquarters to the region. It is simply logical to locate the headquarters of an oil company in an oil producing region.

I totally agree with your points, you can't separate Urhobo from isoko and itsekiri, so I think they should allow us get our own state and let Delta north go with SE since they are always crying of marginalization, my point is that this is not the best time for this now.

Also SE does not extend to Delta state, you can say igbo speaking part of Delta state, but other part of the state have nothing in common with igbo or SE, trying to write the history of others is bad .

@OP, The marginalization the igbos are talking of is not state creation, they need federal presence, they need to feel they are part of the country, not until certain issues are resolved through restructuring the agitation will continue.
