PoliticsRe: Restructuring: Itsekiri Demand Referendum To Devolve Powers by Efewestern(op): 10:27am On Oct 14, 2017
Sanchez01:
GEJ was and is a weakling. He could have run the government the way he deemed fit had it been he had the balls to. Regardless, our only shot would be to support someone from the South, irrespective of the part of the South he is coming from.

Another thing to note is that Jonathan allowed himself to be frustrated. It would have been a different ball game if he actually drew his own closer rather than lustre after strange, unproductive folks who ended up going mum the moment he lost. The Northern game of numbers have been from time immemorial and it seems to be working amidst all things as it is clear that we have only one majority in Nigeria and that is the North.

The thought of a Southern president would no doubt sicken the North, but it would be the perfect advantage we have towards regionalism and resource control. A Southern President would see the North kick and probably reject unifying with other parts of the country. That alone is capable causing them to sit and dialogue over regional governments.
unfortunately we only have fayose campaigning from the south, I actually don't like that guy, but I will definitely vote against buhari come 2019 , the guy is a big tribalist .

we can't just continue like this.. we have nothing in common the people up north.. I still like Nigeria, but they should let us control our resources.

Sanchez01:
I think I find the word 'referendum and restructuring' to be conflicting. However, this has been my call as well from the outset; let us adopt the United States model and allow for resource control. Each state and region would grow at its own pace while the centre would be relieved.

Unfortunately, the parasitic North wouldn't allow this because their Governors and the president have been robbing Peter to pay Paul. They are more interested in seeing that they don't lose out from their proceeds of the oil rather than see that it is about time Nigeria develops.

I just pray the North would lose its grip in the 2019 elections to anyone in the South such that they would be in a hurry to allow for regional restructuring and resource control.

Itsekiri leaders rose from a meeting yesterday urging President Muhammadu Buhari administration to set machineries in motion that would lead to the restructuring of the country.

The leaders , who met at the palace of the Olu of Warri, His Majesty , Ogiame Ikenwoli , under the aegis of Itsekiri National Forum , said as a major contributor to the economy and as citizens of the country, they had reflected on the economic , political and social developments in the country and identified corruption , nepotism , insecurity and injustice , among others , as the problems bedeviling the nation .

They resolved that Nigeria should remain one indivisible and sovereign state and that the Itsekiri people would not support or harbour any violent agitation or ambition for the split of the country or exclusion of any state or any of the ethnic nationalities presently constituting the Nigeria nation from the Federal Republic of Nigeria .

The leaders resolved that the system of government is to remain democratic with the various arms and institutions managed in a cost - effective manner with zero tolerance for corruption , nepotism and undue imbalance in the devolution of powers .

To this end, the Itsekiri nation expressed support for the call for a national conference with equal participation of each ethnic nationality and within a legal framework , among other critical issues for national development .

The forum said that such national conference should take into reckoning the work that was done at the 2014 national conference . At the end of it all, the conclusions should lead to a referendum so that the outcome shall truly be felt by “ we the people of Nigeria . ”

While seeking a government that will ensure fairness and equity for all, irrespective of tribe or religion, the leaders canvassed minority protection and development to ensure that the people of diverse ethnic nationalities in the states continue to coexist in peace , prosperity and progress as citizens of one country united by common interest and destiny.

They advocated restructuring of the revenue sharing formula and devolution of powers between the Federal Government and the confederating states or regions to ensure fiscal federalism. “ We therefore advocate that the federating states must retain some measure of independence and autonomy . ”

The Itsekiri leaders resolved to partner with other ethnic nationalities, leaders of thoughts , civil society organizations in Nigeria who share the same aspirations and vision for a united and peaceful Nigeria with strong democratic institutions , to contribute constructively to the discuss at all levels to establish the Nigeria envisaged by the founding fathers of the nation.

The meeting was attended by eminent Itsekiri personalities , including Chiefs Ayiri Emami , Charles Ajuya (SAN ), Kofi Kartey , T . Y . Pessu , Emmanuel A . Tetsola and Yemi Emiko .

but you live in abuja so why are you angry ? you are one of those benefiting from the north having more control of things, if this restructure thing happens abuja will not be as rich as it is now and you will have to move back to the east when abujas standard of living drops. do you want to move back to the east ? you better support el-rufai so you can continue enjoying your abuja
how does this correlate with what amarabae just said?, is abuja not built with oil money from our land?

You can't beat a child and expect him no to cry, if you keep supporting evil statements like the one elrufai just said, then you are worst than boko.

I just like Nigeria, if not, I would have preferred we go our separate ways, restructure the country now you can.

As my fellow Urhobo Iniovo have said, the kingmakers should do the needful to see that the right and vocal king emerge.
In the spirit of fairness,I would have opined that another ruling home produce the Orosuen.Since the order of kingship is not domiciled in one family alone as in Ughelli kingdom.

LONDON trained journalist and FBI (US) Merit Award winner, Prince Mitaire ‘Mimi’ Okumagba has joined the race for the contentious stool of Orosuen (king) of the Okere- Urhobo kingdom, Warri, Delta State.

Mimi, son of late Chief Michael Okumagba, former Controller (Easter Region) at the Central Bank, was among six candidates to participate in the expression of interest which closed September in renewed struggle for the Orosuen stool last occupied by acclaimed Chief Benjamin Okumagba who joined his ancestors in 2012.

Contenders in the race, Sunday Vanguard learnt, also include Prof. Paul Okumagba of the Delta State University, DELSU, Prince Handsome Olodi, son of the first Orosuen, Chief Emma Okumagba, Godwin Iyara and Prince Akpomedaye Okumagba, son of immediate past Orosuen.

In the timetable released by the Okere-Urhobo Council of Chiefs for the selection of the next Orosuen, kingmakers for the kingdom will meet on October 20th to pick one among the six interested candidates. The kingmakers’ choice will, on 21st October, be announced to the traditional council of chiefs who will present the Orosuen elect to the general populace the next day.

TV/MoviesRe: Nigeria Grants Tax Reliefs To TSTV Africa by Efewestern: 4:55pm On Oct 02, 2017
Chartey:
Nollywood producers will still prefer to give Africa Magic their new movies because DSTV pays them better.

DSTV has poured millions of dollars in into the Nigerian Professional Football League without any profit yet the govt did not give them any tax relief. I see this development making the NFF very uncomfortable.

TV stations like Soundcity and Hip TV will still prefer the DSTV platform because they pay them better. Besides DSTV is partly responsible for the acceptance of Nigerian music across Africa.

Many people are addicted to the shows Telemundo and Zee World which TSTV does not have. Not everybody watches sport. That was the same assumption that killed HiTv.

I don't see DSTV collapsing. They're in so many countries although Nigeria is their second most important market. They have over 200 channels with something for everybody.

People don't know that subscription is actually cheaper in Nigeria than for instance Ghana. Cable TV is a luxury everywhere in the world. Sky is expensive in the UK too.

This competition will be good for the Nigerian consumer and is welcome but people please let's not get our hopes too high. TSTV has to earn credibility and our support.
are you done?

Unfortunately, despite clean bill of manner of approach given to Catalonia Separatists, they have not succeeded much in the realization of their dream just like Biafrans after many years of agitation. Spanish government is opposed to their demands and have likewise pulled out tanks to stop the referendum from holding.
However, methink we must understand how the government of the day think and approach the issue likewise. Between Biafra and Catalonia i can't tell who will gain independent first.
Nigeria can't let any of her territory go without a fight, Spain operates a different system from ours. infact Catalonia is an autonomous community.

The iPod went about their agitation in a wrong way, you cant defeat Nigeria with such mentality, first of all get support from other region, igbos can't do it alone, each region should request we go back to a regional government, with that it will be easier to pull out. the Kurdish still practice a semi-autonomous system, reason they had their referendum.

Nigeria is designed to discourage any form of secession, why do you think Gowon created more states? the best way to go about any agitation is to first weaken the power at the center, with that each region can chant a new cause.

The Spanish government are already feeling the heat, sooner or later Catalonia will be granted independence, that's my wish for them.
Foreign AffairsRe: Biafra: Show Down As Spanish Government Opposes Catalan Referendum Today by Efewestern: 7:18am On Oct 01, 2017
you can't compare Catalonia to the one happening in Nigeria, they didn't go about dragging unrelated group into their agitation, they didn't preach hate against others, they didn't insult others with different views, they didn't tell you "Your views are inconsequential " for dragging you & your people into their agitation.

Catalonia got my support, even tho some world powers like US are not in support of the secession I believe they go about their agitation in a reasonable and peaceful way. their leaders fought for the interest of their people, not touts who can't argue intellectually.

One thing to note is that, Spain practice a system of government different from ours (FEDERATION) So it was easier for them to pull out, reason we should first fight to get a regional government before thinking of secession.

I hope we go back to the way we were before, I hope Nigeria learns from this Spain saga, and I hope those secessionist group in Nigeria learn that you can't achieve anything by chest beating and insulting others .
