mdimefields:Maybe you don't live in Nigeria. But what you are seeing here isn't strange. The quest to feel superior and undermine others has been something the majority of tribes in Nigeria has been engaged in. It's more pronounced in Southern Nigeria because unlike the north, ethnic groups occupying the South would never allow themselves to be degraded and downplayed by any group... Hence the circle of bigotry and tribal supremacy clash. The hard truth we are shying away from is that we shouldn't be one. Our existence as a nation should be negotiated. Unless one ethnic group bows to the other (which would never happen), there isn't any way to end the bigotry and hatred. If you think I'm lying, visit other threads Like that of Ogun's Development thread and see how other regions are been degraded. It really isn't about promoting and projecting one's progress but more to do with degrading others who they feel they are superior to. |
KingOfIsoko1:Lolz but I don't actually have problems with the Ijaws, I see them as a brother. I know sometimes their attitude can be overbearing but they are cool people. Also, their contributions to the national and state pocket gives them this entitlement which is very normal. Infact they deserve more. In Delta state, they don't have any booming city despite their huge contributions. Maybe an Ijaw governor will address some of their plights. |
senatordave1:I'm not Isoko so I won't want to get myself into this debate. The population figures from these Itsekiri dominated LGAs are inflated. Even in Warri metropolis, Isokos are far more populated than Itsekiris. Talk about Ijaws, yes, but not Itsekiri. In Ughelli, Isoko trails Urhobo. The Isokos also have indigenous populations in Delta North. There's no way Itsekiri would be more. In all, there should just be fairness and equity in how political positions and slots are shared between Ijaw, Isoko and Itsekiri. It won't make sense for one to get it all. |
senatordave1:Ijaws might produce the next governor. Those guys are already gathering resources and strategizing. Itsekiri can't produce governor for now unless there's another Ibori. They don't have the numbers. Even in senatorial dominance, the Isokos and Ijaws have cornered them. Speakership don't matter to the Ijaws as they are mostly concerned about the guber battle, which I think Isoko has an edge too, because they have an Urhobo population to rally strength from, should incase the battle gets rough and tough. |
KingOfIsoko1:Appointment kwa. Lol. Oshare I be nobody. Ijaw controls Delta South. I know they would get the speakership. Isoko already has senate. Speakership should go to Itsekiri, but from the look of things, they have been totally rendered powerless in the zone. Isoko should gather strength for the governorship battle that will soon arrive their doorstep. Can you outsmart our Ijaw brothers? Only time can tell. |
senatordave1:The naira and fuel scarcity, summersaulting economic policies etcs made it too difficult for APC candidates nationwide. These hurdles weren't there in 2019. You can't blame people for wanting change. The actions of your party during the build-up to the general election was enough for them to lose nationwide. Blame those that caused the neck pressing suffering and not those who wanted a bit of sanity through the ballot box. Elections are over and we expect fairness in the president's discharge of duties. |
senatordave1:An Ijaw senatorial candidate would have trashed Onowakpo. The Ijaws didn't give their best this time around. They had no candidate on the ballot and so no reason to slave for the PDP. It would have been an easy win if they voted Diden. Onowakpo too couldn't get the support of his Isoko people in its entirety. This is where they Ijaw strength lies. They vote in bloc and deliver. Whosever wants to achieve anything in Delta South will still need the Ijaws. Urhobo population in greatly confined in Warri South and Patani and so won't be able to do anything significant. The population of Itsekiri is rather too small to command any influence. LP had votes in Delta North. If the party should push on with the fight, then PDP might have no senator in Delta state |
senatordave1:No breakdown. But I think he won the two Isoko LGAs. If election is to be reconducted in the disputed Warri South LGA, Onowakpo might still win due to the sheer number of the indigenous Urhobo population and votes from Isoko/Ijaw resident. With the right politics played, Isoko might just become the powerhouse of Delta South. Of course, alliance needs to be forged with the Ijaws, else they go nowhere. With the new electoral laws, it seems Ijaw strength lies in Urban areas where they concentrate more. Ijaw population in Uvwie/Udu is threatening but that population doesn't have any direct impact on their continuous hold on Delta South. LP seems to have a case in Delta North. Do you think the party is ready to exploit all legal means? The could snatch power if they put in efforts. The Obi wave was beneficial to the LP senatorial candidate. |
senatordave1:Know very little of her. I don't think Diden's case will fly. Elections/results cancelled in Warri South can't be valid. Unless the returning officer didn't follow the electoral laws. |
senatordave1:North is irrelevant. If Obi had secured SW and NC, he would have won even with the alleged rigging. Breaking an alliance with SW and NC and securing atleast the majority half would see LP emerge winner. From the elections in recent times, NW & NE has lost total control of NC as these guys lean heavily on Southern candidates. |
garfield1:AA still wouldn't have won Southern Nigeria. I can't say for South Easterners, but most people share the tribal sentiments (Fulani to Fulani transition is DOA). Worst case scenario, the turnup in several southern states will be very low. There have been dissatisfaction in middle belt already as per the herdsmen crisis. All BAT just needed to do is to pick a middle belt Christian candidate. Afterall, the Northerners voted AA despite shetima in the ticket. What pre-election matters is acceptable at this stage? |
garfield1:Ati what... Power to the South has always been the mantra. By now you should have predicted how most of us down here voted. Southerners who voted AA were mostly PDP members. It was the turn of the South, he has no moral justification to contest. No southerner will try that nonsense. Obi was the preferred candidate for most and if he hadn't been in the race, votes will go to BAT except in SE. I monitored results in the units close to me... Obi 1st, BAT second, AA third. No body will empower a Fulani to Fulani transition. Only trying to understand the legal framework of this case and relate it to some upcoming guber case I'm keen in. |
donphilopus:So technically there wasn't a double nomination? The court still needs to decide on this. |
garfield1:The case was still raised in the tribunal. Do you think your party can maneuver their way around it ? I know the SC case can't be referenced. |
garfield1:Can't PDP fund aggrieved APC presidential contestants to contest the double nomination ? Is this possible in the eyes of the law? Read the new electoral law and i knew immediately that PDP lacked the power to sue APC on pre-election matters. |
JungleJustice01:Gooday sir, I will advise you be careful with the words you receive here. You stated that your brother is SS. He is also working but the pay is barely enough to meet his needs. Towing some paths might not only hurt him but snatch him away from you. He's all you have got now. I would advise you purchase your personal land, then spread the house renovation into phases. Maybe 3 years plan after you might have gotten your own personal landed property. You can start with the roofing. Then followed by windows fixing and tilling. I don't know about your tribe, but since you are the eldest, you ought to have the lions share. How many flats are we talking about? |
mrvitalis:I infact support several of your points, but we still need some critical infrastructures. We both can agree that some elephant projects executed by the government in the past eight years were unnecessary as they add zero value to the economy and it made zero sense in taking loans to execute what won't be beneficial to the wellbeing of the Nigerian people. I still believe whatever we are trying to build will totally crumble if there isn't any infrastructure on ground. We should do only what is overly necessary with whatever loan we secure and disburse the rest to ready business partners. Building stadium, rails, airports etc are totally unnecessary at this point in our development. |
Simeonjoe1:I'm not in support of all he said. We need critical infrastructures, especially road, schools and hospitals. The incoming government must not follow the step of previous regimes. We are suffering bro. We must get things right, else, the calamity that will befall us, many won't survive. |
Simeonjoe1:There is what we call priority. We are neck deep in poverty and building Airports and Rail-stations won't help the people in anyway. Delta state sank billions in building Airport when what they actually need is a well-funded active seaport and productive petrochemical industries (Atleast lure investors to the state and form joint partnership), that would have been more productive than having an airport with just a few hundred flights yearly because you don't expect poor and struggling people to buy flight tickets. We need infrastructure, but only critical infrastructure that can sustain the economy. ROADS, POWER, EDUCATIONAL CENTRES AND HOSPITALS are what we need at this point in our life when we are battling with chronic poverty. If and when we have been able to capture some local and international market sectors, we can then talk about building rails, stadiums and some gigantic structures. For now, it makes zero sense to borrow millions from China to build rails. To what end? We can borrow and fund critical infrastructures and open the market for more investors to come in. We need jobs bro. If we are poor, we will vandalize whatever is being built. Poverty is the root cause of lots of problem we are facing and if we don't tackle it, it will consume us. I'm glad with the Dangote refinery and I wish the coming government focuses more on having more industries set up. For a start, we can get our steel industries running. Look for ways to capture the West African market. We can't be here and Chinal and Indians are dominating the markets of our neighbours when we have the resources to penetrate and capture. Look at the progress we made in the banking sectors all over the sub-continent. Borrow money to get these things running and see the magic it does to the local economy. Again, we should learn to prioritize. We can't compete with Europeans for now. If they are building train stations, let them. Out focus is first defeating poverty. |
Maazieze:The only infrastructure we need now is road, hospitals and educational centres. We don't need rails, stadium, gigantic structures... and unnecessary airports. We are poor. Infact, we are swimming in poverty. The best way out of this whole mess is productivity. If we can produce 40% of what we consume, it will go a long way in curbing unemployment, poverty and crime. For decades, we saw no need of refining the fuel we consume. Infact, west Africa imports fuel from non-oil producing countries like India, England.. It will be better if government grant loans to private business men to set-up local refineries and capture the West-african market than building train stations which ends up being vandalized because the people you intend to make comfortable are poor... and an hungry man is an angry man. For now, we don't need certain infrastructures. We must fight poverty with everything we have got and the only way to do that is by being productive. Any nation that depends on others for what they consume will always be poor. I'm beginning to wonder why China only gives loan for infrastructure and not other productive ventures. |
airsaylongcome:Didn't say Otukutu can complete with Lekki. Just letting you know that the place no boast of choicy real estates. The plantation city for example houses some of the wealthiest in the state. Property there goes up to 4m/annum. Yes, I understand the situation of things. But this is the only place we can call home. We don't throw away the baby and the bathwater. As we condemn the attitudes that is killing the city, we also speak life into it. |
mrvitalis:Nah, Lagos isn't towing any similar part. A lot of factors triggered the economic woes we are experiencing today in Warri... Come to think of it, this so called Economic woes is nationwide. Lots of the companies that left Warri also left Nigeria. The few moved to PH. But even with these woes, Warri is still one of the viable city in Delta state. Uvwie alone generates more income than any other LGA outside the city. The city just need to experience good leadership. Also, the deve levy is too much. We are trying to talk to the boys but more needs to be done. Aside Omonile I doubt developers face the challenges People Face in Warri. Believe me, people won't try 1/10th of what they do in Lagos in Warri. The city won't contain anyone should someone wake up one morning to say Uvwie/Warri is no man's land. Whatever motive behind that statement won't be justifiable. Everyone here understands limit. The Lagos people are coolheaded and should be commended for their tolerance. Try and set-up a company in these two cities and see how you get billed be the indigenes. |
airsaylongcome:The same Otokutu bro. It seems you aren't based here, but Otukutu is springling very fast. Violence in Uvwie is just confided in a tiny location. In Effurun for example, clashes don't extend beyond okito junction. In Ekpan, you only witness these rascalities in some few quarters like Udumowvori etc. The rest location in-between are peaceful and that's where the development is. |
airsaylongcome:The entire Uvwie is Urbanized with several well planned layouts. Otokutu is gaining huge too, it has lots of "choicy" real estates that can compete with those in Lekki eg Plantation city. Okpe is enjoying spill from Uvwie. Fact remains, old Warri is gone and where the OP mentioned are mostly part of the Old Warri. Yes, I agree the the city isn't developing as it should, but what else can we do? The youths are hell-bent on destroying the few development that's left with their unnecessary deve fees and thuggish attitude. |
dominique:Wait till you start a building project. 😂 😂 People who complain about Omonile in Lagos haven't experienced 1/10th of what our boys are capable of doing. You are expected to pay levies upon levies... quarter levy, Development levy, building permit, contractor levy, carpenter levy, cut-off, Iron bending levy. Whatever association you can think of. No-one is spared, even some of us with some sort of ancestral links are being taxed. May God strengthen all developers. But funny as this may sound, Warri is fast expanding and still remains the biggest city in the state. The areas the OP mentioned are what we call old-warri. Places in Uvwie, Udu and Okpe are as developed as any top city in Nigeria. |
mrvitalis:For many of us, we are now coming to the realization that the only possible way out is dissolution or regional system of government with zero central power. That way we know who to hold accountable. The clueless governors we have in so many states are hiding under the failure of the central government to loot. |
mrvitalis:That is it. There is poverty in the land. Only a few numbers of Nigerians can actually sustain such ventures. Unfortunately, I don't see things improving anytime soon. We are in for a long cruise bro. |
atheistandproud:Maybe as a people/race we are not capable of some things.... Because I just don't know why we can't solve simple problems for decades. We just want to leech on the resources of a tiny minority that we failed in all aspects of life. |
atheistandproud:My boss. We are loyal |
Tukpa8:You misunderstood the message the Ovie is passing. Believe me, Uvwie is one of the most hot-headed sub Urhobo group and I doubt any body would want to fly the no-man's land tag here. Where the King's palace is situated is strictly reserved. In that same location, we have the Uvwie secretariat. The Ovie Palace and some key buildings. Non-Urhobo groups can buy their properties outside of this zone. It is also wrong for the Ohaneaze Ndigbo to report the Ovie to anyone. This is wrong and unacceptable. The Ovie already gave reasons why he can't let other sociocultural group cite their buildings next to him. There are other places in Uvwie you can erect your business centre and buildings but not Effurun GRA. You can't build whatever structure close to Aso Villa. People should be careful with their actions sometimes. Nobody is prevented from doing anything. There are some layouts in this same Uvwie that has been totally overran by non-indigenes especially Ijaws. |
I've always wondered why we have refused to invest in tourism, considering how it could go a long way in solving some economic woes. The photo below is from somewhere in Nigeria. It's of the River Ethiope in Abraka, Delta State. Photo credits: @Julien_oc

propsad3:And Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS don't have data centers? Is that what they told you ? |
