We need a man that can think fast. The new generation of leaders are those who will bring the business ideology into Government. We should run Government the way world class CEOs run large organizations. These CEO's are well educated and vibrant. Besides, the retirement age in these organizations is about 60 to 65! Now he wants to be president at the end of his productive life. How on earth will he handle the pressures from the job when they start to mount? problems from Niger Delta, from Jos etc.

It's pathetic. In some polling centers, the INEC officials did not arrive till 10! There is a lot that needs to change both from the top and bottom.

I wonder why these names always have a way of connecting with situations.

For presidential,
CPC's major challenge will be getting votes from the south because PDP will equally harvest a lot of votes from the north. PDP's total performance in the NW, NE, NC and SW will be almost equal that of CPC. The SS/SE votes will provide the margin that PDP needs. As danjohn has said, If CPC had the SW locked down, it would have been another story. This is the case even without rigging.

Exactly, starting from the DDC machines, the whole thing has been out of control. Damn!

Nice idea but you know our states na! The incumbent Governor will simply chop all the votes. You will see a state with as many votes as the nation. We may get there someday.

I understand where you are going but let's draw a line somewhere.

What happened could have been prevented if Jega (with the same system) took a different line of action.

Take for example, you have a very important business meeting in Lagos where everybody knows that traffic is a problem. It is there and there is nothing you can do to remove it. What will you do? Simple. leave your house by 5a.m.! There are always problems and challenges waiting for us there. If you wake up 5 a.m. and you cant get a bus or anything, join a friend. if you cant join a friend, then you should have slept in the office the night before knowing the situation on ground!!! There has to be a way around it. INEC failed to find away around it.

Back to our situation. What were the issues:
1. Result sheets did not arrive as/when expected!
2. Ballot papers wrongly printed in some places!

INEC could have thought of ways to go around those two problems easily.

The first one was a matter of timing. Better logistics should have taken care of that. In planning there should have been enough time allocated to the printing and delivery. Delivery of 48 hours before the time to me is terrible. Those things should have reached the RECs at least 48 hours or thereabout before the election.

The second one is even more amazing. Where on earth were the controls for the printing? It is the height of incompetence on the part of whoever executed the contract for the ballot papers. I have handled some projects that have to do with large volume printing and I know how difficult it can be but having a wrong design is completely unacceptable. There should be 100% assurance of the content before printing. Color distortions and other minor problems can come up but content problem signifies complete loss of control.

First, the election has not been cancelled. It was only postponed.

As for who is responsible, it is BOTH but mostly INEC (80%). Why?

INEC: INEC is an INDEPENDENT body and should be responsible for the good and bad. Also, the fact that it was a logistic problem tells me that somebody really made some seriously wrong decisions. Those result sheets are on the CRITICAL PATH! You don't mess any thing on the critical path! Jega gave his full assurance that everything was under control and the whole nation believed him including Mr President.

Government: Everything happened under the watch of the government. Though they have provided the funds and the necessary resources, they will still have to take a little share of the blame. Perhaps, we have to redefine how "INDEPENDENT"  INEC should be. Execution needs to be monitored more closely to prevent catastrophic failures.

God help Jega.

He is the president with a human face. We can relate to him. He has given us a sense of belonging. He has shown that he listens to the citizens.

That is exactly the problem with the old ideology. It is never about the interest of everybody. It has to hurt a huge chunk of people to be good. It has to benefit only a certain group. The earlier we start being tolerant and stop branding others with different views negatively, the better.

GEJ believes in equality. Nobody should be treated as a rag or as not important. Nobody should be branded as "mere". That is what we need today. Tolerance and respect. It is a tough battle but we will get there.

I don't think the man has been able to sleep for days! I do not ever want to be in such a situation. God help him.

Back to the topic: Several intelligent and well meaning Nigerians believe in GEJ. There must be something they can see in him that some others have not been able to see. I think it is all about his new approach to issues and his commitment to the success of every citizen in the country.

2 questions for you.
1. Did GEJ kick against the banking sector reform?
2. Did he or did he not order an external audit?

Knock yourself out in trying to answer these questions while I move on to other more important threads.

I have not forgotten so soon about the banking sector cases.  The Ibru case is an example of anti-corruption efforts. How about his order for an external audit of NNPC? These show that he has a great interest in transparency.

My reason for GEJ (after analyzing all three candidates):

Few Years down the road with GEJ :
1. Finally power sector reforms takes its full course and the nation witnesses tremendous improvement in availability and quality of service.
2. Huge influx of foreign investors due to renewed global confidence in the Nigerian Economy.
3. Improvement in the energy sector with the PIB, development of gas for local consumption and reduced importation of petroleum product.
4. Improved anti-corruption policies and stronger legal system due to new mix of legislators and increased awareness
5. More focus on education to meet the needs of the booming economy.
6. Huge boost in the agricultural sector.
7. Improvement in the entertainment / media industry.
8. Tremendous improvement in employment levels due to a combination of the above as well as new policies aimed specially at providing jobs.

I say we give GEJ this chance till 2015. I support a strong, coordinated, vibrant, competent and focussed opposition in 2015.

His friends all over the world have been given the boot. The likes of Ben Ali, Mubarak, Gadhaffi, etc. They are the old order and their time is up. That is part of the reasons why it is so much of an issue today. The stronghold of these oppressors is being broken and it takes quite an effort to rip them off. When Bakare was not yet lured by the fantasies of presidential jets and more respect / adoration of humans, he made a statement (according to him, by the spirit of God).

What has changed overnight? I think it's the catalyst that changed this chemical equation!

This debate made me rethink my stance on the best candidate for 2011. I was disappointed because I thought the others will display their maturity and score cheap points for it. Instead they went for the Do-Me-I-Do-You approach. I got really pissed off! There is no excuse that can justify their approach because Nigerians should be the most important part of the equation. Besides, they are allowed to say whatever they want. Nobody will muzzle them during the debate so why act childishly? GEJ has displayed his genuine passion and respect for Nigerians and that is the key difference between the old and the new order. Change is here.

Even if husband and wife fight in their own house, some people will still blame GEJ!

Back to the topic:

5. Appointment of highly competent individuals in all areas of government.
6. Uprising in the Niger Delta due to uncertainty of the Amnesty programme. (May be critical for the success of the government)
7. More focus on education
8. New ideology may emerge for public service.

Few years down the road BB (As a result of his approach to government):
1. Millions of court cases for all manner of reasons including terminated government projects/contracts.
2. Probes, Probes, Probes and Probes leading nowhere
3. Economic standstill and higher levels of unemployment
4. Upsurge of militancy and religious tensions all over the country.
5. Massive exit of companies from Nigeria due to high levels of uncertainty.
6. Waves of Strikes and Industrial Actions.
7. Deterioration of the power sector.
8. Increased intensity of NASS boxing and wrestling rounds with several threats of impeachment.

In summary, we are at the brink of a serious economic and technological breakthrough. GEJ will be in the best position to consolidate on these several pending issues. Ribadu's ACN has also proven that they can sail through and BUILD ON what PDP has done even if they have so many start-up problems. BB will set us back and after 4 years of pursuing shadows, Nigerians will look back and regret. Even if the BB government means well with the probes, how long do you think the hungry citizens can wait for the probes to be over? During the debate, Buhari categorically said he will not make further investments until he probes the last 12years! A more reasonable approach is to Probe and also invest at the same time, more like the Ribadu approach.

I say we give GEJ this chance till 2015. I support a strong, coordinated, vibrant, competent and focussed opposition in 2015.

He caused so much stir last time and he's still making a lot of noise about it now. He didn't just do it in his backyard and shut up. He decided to make it public for the whole world to watch.

Hate GEJ if you want to, but the fact remains: We Want Him Back! A president should ba able to represent the entirety of the nation and not just a part of it. GEJ has been able to break through the walls of tribalism that divide us. It is now left for the rest of us to GO BEYOND BORDERS

GEJ is an advocate of freedom of information. He has treated the media and entertainment industry with the respect they deserve. He deserves their endorsement. Unlike those dictators who persecuted journalists and stopped people from associating freely.

What are your expectations for the 2011 elections?

The only prayer I offer is that God should make April real, because there will be challenges that will threaten the April elections. Those challenges God has shown me .Many of these challenges are changeable and many are unchangeable. So I'm praying. It will be too early for me to begin to outline the challenges when I'm asking God to change many of them which I'm seeing. In the election there will be many challenges. I'm praying that April will be real so as to promote democracy in Nigeria.

People will like to know the challenges; can you tell us some of them?

Let me tell you the reason why I have been very careful. Before Nigeria was fifty last October, I had started calling on people to pray since July 1 that I was seeing fire and booming sounds. I related it on television and it was shown. I said I saw some people being arrested. I kept saying it, even when October 1 was two days away I repeated i. Nothing was done. Nobody came to ask me about what I said I saw. Again, I said I foresaw extension of election dates. In July I kept saying it but nobody asked me what I was saying. Eventually the date of the election was extended. When the issue of the late president Yar' adua came up, I said “I'm seeing a coffin, a wooden frame, they put someone in it and it will cause the flag of Nigeria to be brought down.” I said the person to be affected is a leader. And nobody asked me what I meant. I can begin to tell you many others that were recorded and said publicly to the whole world. So if I now also come and begin to tell you the challenges that will threaten the April elections, of what effect will it be. You know what it is if you say something and no one is taking any notice of it. The prophesy was in most newspapers. But one thing which I will still repeat anywhere anyday is that I pray that the April election will be real. We should also pray against what will make the situation be like what is happening in Ivory Coast today, where there is imposition of leadership which is gradually degenerating into regional conflict. We should pray that whoever will be declared winner should be with a large margin.

President Jonathan once likened his coming to the throne to what happened between David and Saul ,that he was not expecting he would get there and now he is there. In the light of that, as a religious leader in Nigeria, do you approve of his contesting the elections. Do you think he his God's appointed president for the country come 2011?

When you look at Nigeria as a whole you will discover there is no love in this country. Where there is no love it is very very difficult have God's manifestation. Consider what happened in Nazareth in Jerusalem when Jesus went there, he thought he could do many miracles as he did in other places but he found himself doing few because there was no love. Back to what you are saying concerning the words of the president, if he said it is God's doing, are you doubting the power of God.

From all you have said, can you tell Nigerians that this country is set to go as far as 2020 as one country?

You people are forcing me to say what I don't want to say, Now write it down and quote me “let us pray for April to be real.” That is all. Because I foresee that going to court to contend results will interest people any longer. People will not show interest in it again. Let us pray against it. It is the court that will be able to sort things out but people at that time will not be interested in going to court. Let us pray that April will be real to avoid a situation where people will not agree or give any regard to court actions, thereby creating a clash of region against region.

People may not like him but Prophet TB Joshua actually prophesied in January that the 2011 elections will be postponed twice.
