TV/MoviesRe: Hitv Or Hi Rubbish? by Egavlas(m): 11:20pm On Feb 09, 2008
@senga

I don't think those channels that Trend tv want to use to "spoil Hitv's party, are good enough to do that.

Secondly, @senga, beleive me, Hitv are selling and getting more and more subscribers despite all the shortcomings.

I think they will make at least 350 thousand by year end.

Mr Toyin Subair has affiliations with some people in religous circles(Churches).

These Churches have very influential leaders and all it takes is an endorsement from these Church leaders and there will be a surge.

I beleive thats where a lot of the optimism is coming from.

@urfriend, what is Zee cinema like? Sounds funny!
Hope its not another art movies. I was made to understand in another thread that Art movies 2 was targeted at the Lebanese community in Nigeria.
Also are you guys still talking with Sky for content?

Edit: Just checked the zee site and its indian movies. Hope at least they will be showing Indian films in English or subtitled.

See me o , the channel wey I never see na im I dey demand how it should be grin
TV/MoviesRe: Comparing DSTV And HiTV by Egavlas(m): 9:10pm On Feb 09, 2008
@Senga

What Raahym is trying to say is that if Trace Tv was exclusive to only one network(Multichoice as you believe), Hitv wouldnt have it right now cause that would cause some problems just as the CNN issue last year.

Trace Tv was on TITV, FSTV, Trend, and Mytv so it can't be exclusive to anyone.

@Raahym congrats on the Trace tv but don't you guys think you are wasting too much resources on all these music channels?

At the last count , you have four of them.
Are there no other content providers you could have gone for?
Surely there should be some networks that do stuff like the discovery and the rest.

Please enough of this music channels. Focus your resources and Energy on getting a contract with Sky

Just Sky One(for series, etc) and one Sky Movie Channel will nail it all.

I hope you know that the SMS idea is silly.
Seun, yes trying to raise money through the sms could be silly but those youths are surely just being emotional and want to be heard.

Am passing the message on so that it will get to the people that make the decisions, which is probably just what the people that sent the message out want to achieve.

Its an emotional thing.

Am sure when it comes to brass tacks that no one would want to pay a kobo higher for sms

Glo must read this sms.

Mr Bert Vogts is not an honorable gentleman, typical white coaches do not wait to be asked, they throw in the towel.

Long Live Nigerian football
I agree with you. The man is very dishonorable. A decent white coach would just resign after such a catastrophe.

Even in the face of outcry from the Nation, the man insists on remaining the coach even against the wishes of the people.
He is going to put himself in grave danger if he continues this.

Its obvious now that he just came here for the money and a meal ticket. Thats why he added all those clauses to the contract.

Also Sanni Lulu and the people that signed the contract are either illiterates or are party to the fraud and are gaining from the contract.
This may explain the confidence Vogts has in insisting that he will remain coach.

That Vogts is shameless. From his base in Germany(where he coaches the 'National Team' from), he granted an interview to a German paper saying he is still in Charge and that no one will sack him.

Well meaning Nigerians must call on EFCC to probe this contract saga.
SportsRe: Youths In Lagos Offer To Pay Off Berti Vogts by Egavlas(op): 2:05pm On Feb 09, 2008
I think people on this forum that care about this should also copy the message and send as sms to friends.

Let it spread.
SportsYouths In Lagos Offer To Pay Off Berti Vogts by Egavlas(op): 1:44pm On Feb 09, 2008
Below is a text message that I received. Its apparently being passed around so that it would possibly get to the Authorities :

"We d youths in Ajegunle and other parts of Lagos, want 2 help Globacom 2 pay off Berti Vogts.

We are willing to send sms with Glo lines at 50 naira per sms 4 a period of time and so accumulate d money.

Our football will never grow with a man who coaches us from abroad.

Pls pass this text msg to at least two people and hopefully, the authorities will see how we feel."

This is soo touching.
I have passed it on to five people. We all know that football keeps Nigerians 2gether and our youths occupied.
The Sports Ministry must know this and probe the Fraudulent people that signed such a contract with Vogts.

When did you start following football?  smiley
Richard Daddy Owobokiri also known as Ricky, was the highest goal scorer in the 91/92 season.

There is even something on wickepedia here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Daddy_Owobokiri

Also here is a page with Portugese league statistics of clubs, championships won and dates and also season highest goal scorers:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portuguese_Liga

Go down to 91/92 season and look through and see Ricky as highest goal scorer for that season with 30 goals.
Please Ricky was his nickname and they assumed that anyone would know they were talking about Richard Owobokiri.

The other sites about Boavista are in Portugese and I don't have the capacity to search their archives and get info on Owobokiri since I don't know portugese.

Vogts still has to go though

dayokanu:
Problem of Nigerian Football
Nigerians have an unrealistic expectation of the eagles. This is a team that has won Nations cup just twice while Ghana-4, Egypt-5, Cameroun who won their 1st in 1984 have won 4 since then. Nigerians can’t complain that they lose players to European countries like Some African countries. Ghana had Desailly, Asamoah and Odonkor, Algeria-Zidane, Tunisia-Lamouche, Morocco-Djorkaeff, Zaire-Makelele, Mpenza, Luyindula, CIV-Basile Boli, Mali-Tigana, Senegal-Ibrahim Ba, Vieira even Mozambique had Eusebio. They could have argued that if these players had played for us we would have ruled African. No Nigerians player (Save Onyewu) has represented another country at a tourney. (Someone just reminded me of Ogunbiyi and Omotoyossi for Benin republic)
It’s on record that Nigeria has never beaten a top country (Former world cup winner) in any type of game at the senior level friendly of not. The best of Cameroun defeated Maradona Inspired Argentina and Brazil at Confederations cup, the best of Senegal shocked France. Our outings against teams like Germany, Italy, Brazil Argentina, Holland and co only have one result- Losses for Nigeria.
Our pool of star is also blatantly overrated. For in my African all time top 5 no Nigerian featured. George Weah, Roger Milla, Samuel etoo, Abedi Pele and Didier Drogba in no particular order
It’s also on record that no Nigerian striker since we started playing pro soccer has never been highest goal scorer in any top league. What Drogba and Etoo did. The closest was Yekini (For those who consider Portugal a top league) but who remembers Meyong Ze of Cameroun was top scorer in Portugal in 2003/2004. Even in African competitions we had to struggle for over 50 years to win the CAF champions league almost every country won it before us.
Nigeria lost to Italy in 1994, Senegal in 2004 and Ghana in 2008 after the opponent had been reduced to 10 men- what character!!!
We always deceive ourselves with rumours like Okocha taught Ronaldinho football (beggars wish), Finidi was once world best 7 (Who can tell me which authority gave him the award and who are the world best 7 per year before and after him). We apportion blame at the slightest instance blaming the referee almost every time. We have been trying to explain the blatant offside we scored at Atlanta 1996 final game by Amunike
We blame the NFA who remembers that Cameroun won 2000 without a FA. Now Vogts has been sacked he is the scapegoat why didn’t South Africa sack Parreira or Morrocco sack Henri Michel. In my opinion we should have left Vogts. Rudi Voller lost scandalously to England in 2001, he was not sacked and 12 months later he played the world cup final. Aime Jacquet lost woefully at Tournoi de France and 5 months later won the World cup. We are going back to the always available but completely ineffective drawing board.

The solution is for us to lower our gaze and have a more realistic expectation of our team Currently only Mikel plays for a top Club in Europe (The Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus, Man Utd, Bayern, Liverpool and lately Arsenal avoid Nigeria players like a bubonic plague while they all have Africans from Mali to Angola, even Togolese in their midst.
I only have one reply to all that you said since most of them make sense.

Richard Owobokiri was highest goal scorer in Portugal and in deed, europe for a couple of seasons for Boavista.
Make the research. He was a Nigerian International. Yekini was preffered by our handlers then.

All the same, Berti Vogts is Clueless and not competent enough to take us anywhere. The Ghana match was a clear indication of the fact.

He only made a change after they scored us. Five minutes to go. We had ample time to bury the game. Have never seen him make any changes that change the outcome of a game.

He needs to go.
SportsRe: Berti Vogts Has Been Sacked By NFA by Egavlas(m): 10:24pm On Feb 05, 2008
THE NFA have just denied the "rumours".
Read it on
www.kickoffnigeria.com .

Also heard it on Channels news just now.

If they fail to sack that man, the EFCC must step in and probe them all.

Its possible that what Vogts is earning , is just on paper and they may be sharing some payments with him.

2002, Onigbinde, who defeated Vogts while he was coach of Scotland(in his own backyard), was sacked because Nigeria did not qualify from the group stages at world cup.

2002 Nations Cup in Mali, the duo of Amodu Shuaibu and Stephen Keshi were sacked for winning only bronze.

2004, Christian Chukwu was sacked for winning only bronze.

2006, Eguavoen was sacked for winning only bronze and loosing in a friendly match against Ghana.

2008, the incompetent and clueless man called Vogts could not beat a team that was one man down and low on morale. He could not win any medal and here are the NFA men playing and toying with the emotions of Nigerians because of their selfish interests.

Can someone here help me right a petition to the EFCC? There is definitely something amiss.

Why havent we seen the contents of that contract that they signed?

Are there no good Lawyers in Naija that would have located the dangerous clauses in the contract?

These are questions that we must ask and get these people to respect us Nigerians.

The people say out with Vogts and in with Siasia.

Enough is Enough

Is it not possible for your installer to try and push the cable to face another repeater station?

Maybe you should try and find out if that can be done.

@Raahym, is that possible?

Its not all *total crap*.

Its good you explained the issue about the mbc network.

Anyways, like someone pointed out, you could try to work something out with Sky for sky one and one of the sky movies since u are already getting sky news. That way it would be legal.

Am just imagining that it may increase subscriptions since one of the selling points of hitv was the low monthly subscription.

hiphopworldmagazine? yeah right. . . tomorrow they will psquare lied nd they sold only 10 copies. bunch of stupos
Zigbo, They are richer than that amount and its not because of the 6 million copies sold or whatever.

You say they prefer to buy plain mixed cds and I don't know what u mean by that but there is no point for anyone to buy or produce pirated cds at the same price the original owners are selling theirs.

What would be the point?

Am sure u are not in naija so it would sound *imposicant* to you about the kind of money those naija based artists are making.

It was just last year(or is it early this year), that they spent about 75 million on a house. It was well reported with pictures.

So the issue of their having that amount and counting, is not *imposicant*.

And its not even via the said 6million copy sales or whatever. That news may be true and it may be a stunt.

good post.

You are right. It could be a buzz generator and all.

And am happy you understand how the mind of a businessman(the marketers) work.
Music/RadioRe: P-square Sells A Million Copies In 6 Days! by Egavlas(m): 12:52am On Nov 30, 2007
@YourFather,

Firstly, If you read my first post, I said am not saying the story of 1 million sold in six days is absolutely true. It may be true and it may not be entirely true but the poster said he heard them(PSquare) say it in an interview.

On the other hand, have you considered the fact that the marketers have done this a number of times before and realised that its not a question of if the cds will sell or not but how fast they can sell to reach their target?

If someone realises from experience that a thing works and wants to get it all done the first time, why not?

If he knows for a certainty that the cds will sell, why make batches? Why not make his full quota once and for all and concentrate on the sales and marketing rather than coming back to make batches?
Music/RadioRe: P-square Sells A Million Copies In 6 Days! by Egavlas(m): 12:27am On Nov 30, 2007
@YourFather

Make your comments and forget about people having sense on the internet or not.

Yes, some of those marketers actually take a gamble on the cds.

This is their business and they have been in it long enough to know what is good business and whats not.

I know quite a number of them who do this.

Not only in music cds but videos. Some pay producers of home videos up front to be able to market their films.

The trend has been like that. Cause of Record sales by Tuface, Faze, P square, dbanj, etc. They know what is a money maker anytime.
For those above mentioned artists, their is no question of loss for the marketers, unless they turn out a really bad album.

What you forget is that any marketer that takes delivery of millions of naira worth of cds, already has a distribution and sales network that has been working for him.

There is no point getting agitated over this. Let this not degenerate to Unnecessary name calling.
who are "them"?? do u know what it means for 1 million people to go out and buy your cd in its first week in america (population of over 300 million)?

nigeria has a population of roughly 150 million, keep in mind that if they say psquare sold platinum, that does not mean 1 million, platinum status is determined by the overall population of the country, for example platinum status in us = 1 million units sold (total population of country is 300 million), platinum status in canada = 100,000 units sold(total population of the country is 30 million), it is determined by the corresponding population of the country, so in nigeriam, platinum status will be roughly 500,000 units

all the same, if this is true story then thats big time stuff for them, so my own question is, how much does it cost them to manufacture a cd in nigeria??, because if these orginal cds are going for =N=150, thats less than how much it takes to manufacture a cd here in the states
young_digi,

You guys shouldnt doubt that story at all.

In naija, records and statistics are daily broken . A lot of things happen here that break the norm.

Like the poster said, its not a must that each cd went to an individual buyer.

Some other smaller marketers, believing that the cd would be a hit, may have bought in large quantities hoping to stock up and do business later.

Secondly, at N150, you will agree that its easy for somone to by 5 cds, one for his car one to be at home another for a friend abroad, etc. grin

Why do you think most of  our naija based musicians are living large? Jeeps everywhere and buying houses.

You asked how much it costs them to manufacture a cd if they sell one at N150?

They don't have to manufacture any discs.

There are companies that import or make plain/empty discs. The Record Labels and marketing companies get the cds from them in bulk. A break down of the cost, most times may come to N15-N20 per empty disc.

Of course the music is theirs and the recording equipment is theirs and the rest, they say, is history.

Please don't doubt this at all. Am not saying its absolutely true but anything is possible in this country.

I also heard that Faze Alone sold 300,000 copies in a month when it was released. And thats a long time ago now.

@Raahym

Thank you for taking out the time to reply to all the complaints.

Please, You guys should forget about dual view for now and focus on the seemingly little things that irritate.

1) The EPG.
someone said here that we have to go to your office and pay for another decoder to get the EPG on hitv.
can you confirm this?

2)Are there chances of any new channels coming on this december? someone also said that here. can you confirm or denounce that?

3)Still on content and channels. Mytv offers free to air channels and at least they have a documentary channel even if its like a poor imitation of discovery and the likes.

Someone said you dont have licence to broadcast free to air channels and am wondering why? Mytv is subscription based service but they also offer free to air.

My issue with this is that Hitv can actually put paid to all this content issue by just getting th mbc network and all the movies and sitcoms will be watched by your customers.

When I was on Disc cable services, they used to broadcast mbc2 and I didnt see any one complain and they are also a pay tv service.

So can you clarify this issue once and for all? Cant hitv offer some free to airs as part of their services? Dstv has a lot of those free to air channels bundled into their services .

Before , I even went to get hitv, I heard someone from your office saying that free channels will be among the offerings.

MBC network is the only one of those Free To Air offerings you need and all the content issues will be sorted.

But then, I dont know much about all the licences so let us know whats on board.
