I will like to point out a growing trend for concern in some of our Tertiary institutions especially Edo State University in this regard. Where students after finishing their studies will be awaiting their final results confirmation for more than 2 years. In the process delaying NYSC call up and eventual working life or further educational pursuit. This in my opinion is very insensitive and wicked of the lecturers and educational system that can inflict this kind of pain and worry on students they have taught and mentored for over 4-5 years. How can lecturers and administrators go to sleep at night knowing they are holding other people's children future to ransom for selfish and totally unacceptable reasons. This is no way to treat the future of the country as responsible adults who called themselves professionals. The government cannot do it all as many of our obstacles in this country are self inflicted with inconsiderate people making life unbearable for their fellow men/women. NUC and the ministry of education must not let this become a norm as it totally negates the true essence of getting educated. |
A people with no shame is that possible you may ask. Well with us Nigerians this seems to be the norm. How else can we explain our present existence of constant degradation of everything around us as a nation from infrastructures to morals. No Power No Transportation No Education No Jobs With all the monies we have spent in successive budgets down the years and nothing tangible to show for it than the present we all should be ashamed especially all those who have held public office. What will it take us to realize that our existence is indeed shameful and requires national mourning. A sober reflection is called for to have Nigerians remember what really matters. National interest MUST remain a common goal for us all as a people. We MUST compete and MEASURE ourselves with other progressive countries and people across the world. |
Outright laziness of government and the NNPC/DPR to think up a solution. What is governance all about if a problem can persist for over 2 decades and counting. Why cant we have the refineries 100% functional? Why do we have to continue importation of fuel. Why is there no solution to this constant headache of petrol and its pricing? There is just so much selfishness going on that it totally leaves one stunned. Why cant we have problem solvers amongst us? Must we continue like this on a way trip to destruction? Every successive government gives speeches lauding themselves on achievements made but Nigeria remains the same. Who are we fooling. |
The lack of patriotism shown by succesive government to our nation is really down right disheartening. How can we not see that we can be so much better as a people. Nigeria should be a home to all Africans and a source of pride to our kind. We must wake up all of us and demand better of ourselves and fellow country men. Nobody will fix this country for us but ourselves. |
What is done is done as they say. The issue nownis to justify the loan and spending of the said sum borrowed. The fact that these monies are not interest free should make borrowing and its spending a very serious buisness for our nation as we cant place future generations in predicaments totally unwarranted. |
Some heavy behind the scene moves here as i cant believe shoprite will pack out of Naija based on economics only. Someone or something must have gotten to them. We will hear soon enough. |
At this point it is proven that there is something definitely wrong with how we go about our natiomal business. If a loan already agreed and secured can be debatable on it's very terms then why did we sign it in the first place? National interest should always come first. |
There is so much we dont understand about the runnings of this country. How can we export what we lack? What do we get in return?. |
Our policy makers need to reflect o. How can we not love our country enough to see it thrive positively without this much suffering to her citizens. We need to start fixing our land before it gets too late for us all. It doesn't matter how global the world gets there is still no place like home. |
She has a point given the situation of things the president should be seen being sober as much as possible. We have a country to fix and that should be paramount. |
Nigeria is not cursed. However Nigerians tolerance for bad leadership and total lack of progressive is very elastic and seems to have no limit. Nigerians must demand better leadership and accountability of our common wealth. Nothing will change if we do nothing. |
Nigerians need to first understand corruption is not only stealing of our common wealth. The different shades of corruption inherent in our nation is too overbearing from incompetence to tribalism and from favoritism to unnecessary sentiments have all contributed to where we are as a nation. Nigeria must matter to each and everyone of us otherwise there is no getting it right anytime soon. |
It wont be too far fetch for this to become a reality by 2100 given how clueless leadership is on our clime. Our population has to be control as resources is not unlimited. Hopefully we would have sane leadership before 2050 that will steer our country in the right direction. |
Buhari must not be seen slacking on this at all as it will be a tale of ridicule for Nigeria if this particular case is inconclusive. Whoever is guilty has to be sentenced accordingly and whoever not guilty be let off. Why are we fundamentally corrupt? a sober reflection on the system will be a good start cause this is not normal at all. |
Power though a necessity is globally also a commodity. The lack of sincerity and political will by consecutive governments have made it almost impossible to make what should be considered a vital part of our economy growth stagnate to a point of hopelessness. Provide the infrastructure or the enabling environment for private participation in power provision. Let people choose their power providers/sources based on service/pricing like any normal commodity. |
There is nothing wrong in Sowore celebrating Buhari's election victory. Nigeria wasn't working optimally during Jonathan's tenure and unfortunately same remains same today under Buhari. The fact that Sowore can support Buhari before and then later fault his administration for mismanaging the country should be looked at positively. What should be the discuss is if Sowore change in stance are based on facts or fictions. |
We have this way of assuming academic and theoretical approach to everything without any foundation. As every country is talking recession we have joined the bandwagon. I hope when they all start reporting economic recovery we will also do the same. |
The Nigerian people cannot remain unaffected with this non-stop pillaging of our common wealth. We all have to reflect and think about doing better for our nation and unborn generations. |
If Caverton Helicopters got all necessary clearance from NAMA and FAAN for the flight then Governor Wike need to release the pilots as they have done no wrong. The the pilots ordinarily will not take to air without required clearance and if they were not cleared into Rivers airspace for landing they would have return to their point of origin. |
The only reason this persist is because the person holding sway sees the present opportunity as a means to steal. No shame at all and no patriotism. Our country cannot continue in this path of self destruct. |
Tendering an apology is a noble thing to do given according to the writer he was excessivley harsh on GEJ. However my take on this is that journalists and writers should give to the public only verified information and facts devoid of their personal convictions and emotions. |
From responses here Nigerians know we have a problem with the way the country is being run. We owe ourselves and future generations a country we can all be proud of. How long are we going to be this timidly misled? Democracy allows for accountability and we should call for it with one voice. |
The way it is other countries will do it for us. Borders are being shut worldwide anyways so let the policy makers keep the dilly dally going. |
I think it is hard for others outside APC to acknowledge June 12 as "Democracy day". To have all of them show up will undermine them because in one way or the other they played a role in suppressing what June 12 stands for in the first place. FG on its own should forget who attended or did not attend and keep consolidating on the gains accrued from the acknowledgment of June 12 to build us a lasting democracy where all Nigerians can flourish. |
INEC should step up going forward. A match is only as good as the referee officiating it. |
Was watching some Kpop (Korean Pop) videos and was pretty much taken with the fact that there seem to be an abundance of groups (female and male). And i couldnt help thinking why there are no prominent groups (not duo) in the Nigerian music industry. We had plantashun Boyz in the past though which comes to mind alongside the Remedies. Is it because our music industry encourages individualism? Or its not just something we thrive it. |
Agreed it will be but not by APC led government. |
He is absolutely correct in saying that a people make up a country and its Nigeria and Nigerians that is seen as corrupt not just the government. A people dseserve the kind of government they get. This is who we are - FANTASTICALLY CORRUPT until we decide enough is enough. |
obailala:That is the hallmark of our failings as a nation. The very corruption we are talking about that has bedevilled us and crippled every facet of our national and economic life. The pride to make our collective interest work is what we do not have as a nation and until we cultivate that spirit of nationhood we will remain rooted to the very spot we are where nothing works. |
N180 billion yearly as mentioned is very misleading in the context in which the article is wriiten. How is the sum arrived at and based on what indices? Is the airline going to be operating for free and not generating any revenue? Yes a Beoing 777 (A wide body aircraft) cost over $300 million dbut who says it must be wide body aircraft. A narrow body aircraft the likes of Airbus 320's and Beoing737-8 series cost about $72 million. Again who says it has to be a brand new aircraft that Nigeria Air has to start with. There is the option of leasing aircrafts be it under a wetlease (aircraft and crew) or drylease( aircraft only). Emirates (one of the largest airlines today) started with 2 wetleased aircraft from Pakistan International Airline in 1985. If Ethiopia can run a succesful airline by all international standards the question we need to ask is why can we not do the same? |
Woke up this morning and the thought came to my head and i was thinking why Nigeria seems to be rooted to a spot progressively with the same problems and issues administration after administration. And it occured to me that for whatever reasons we are not in a healthy competition with any country in terms of developmental strides. We just carry on day to day no light, no road, no education, employment etc. Our leaders need to develop a competitive attitude towards governance from local government to the federal level. Compete to have the best infrastructures, workforce, education system, security, industries and so on. |
I join you wish it was simply based on impeachment that Trump made that statement. Nigerians are daily crying and suffering from misrule at all level of government. And that my friend is the reason why Trump called it a shit hole. |
