pacespot: Thank you for this insight too sir! In this particular instance I asked the question of, there was no wife with the deceased when he was alive, all the wives have departed to marry another men at least 10 years prior to the death of the deceased. And this deceased person died intestate. The next-of-kin (son) processed the estate of his father like the pension and gratuity who died in active service.
. what people do is to use their Son as the next of kin instead of wives or a wife and they will indicate in the property document that in the case of death the estate belongs to the children (one of them is the next of kin) No.man wants his property to be taken to another man if his wife remarries after his death. The man who is given the property as the next of kin will work with other children to use or dispose the property. If the property is to be sold all the children must sign the document. If the deceased has many wives a child from each of them must sign the document. So in case of death without a will the content of the property will determine who takes over the ownership of the property........There are crises on sharing property when extended family members are interfering in what does not belong to them.If you know your what your family can do, you should plan against that before death
Lifestone: That's why I asked the question. To me this is a commercial dispute of a supplier not paid by the woman. He should go to court and not Efcc to pursue recovery
.You are right! She may have collected the money from the government.. People believe in EFCC more than the police .You can reconcile at the EFCC or you go to court unlike the police that will make a mess of the whole matter .
firo08: Talk like a man, be a man and be a voice. No one made him governor but God. It happens to ambode and is happening obaseki who knows the next ? It could be you. Mind you no man can hold a State to ransome.
. My voice is clear even from what I said.If he wants to rule again he must resolve his difference with Oshiomole. How your house is determines how you will sleep there. God chooses but he uses men to do so.Nigerian and African politics are practised in Nigerian and African ways.If he continues this way he will not win in Edo and it will be foolish of him.I wonder why politicians dont learn lessons from the mistakes of others.
jarawa: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in South West on Wednesday alleged that there are plots by the Presidency to upturn the electoral victory of the Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, at the Supreme Court. The party submitted that the PDP roundly defeated the APC in Oyo state during the last governorship election, winning in twenty-eight local government areas while APC won in only five.
This was contained in the communiqué issued shortly after the South West stakeholders meeting of the party held in Abeokuta, Ogun state. Prominent among the PDP stalwarts at the meeting are the Deputy National Chairman, Yemi Akinwonmi; Vice Chairman of the PDP, Northwest, Senator Ibrahim Kazaure; National Vice Chairman, PDP, Southwest, Dr. Eddy Olafeso; a PDP Chieftain, Dr. Doyin Okupe and former Aviation minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode. Others include the Chief of Staff to the Oyo state governor, Chief Bisi Ilaka, and a PDP leader in Ogun, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, among others. The party described the Court of Appeal judgement on Makinde’s victory as “judicial anarchy” which created confusion that still persists.
According to the party, “We wish to re-emphasize and place firmly in public view that the PDP roundly defeated the APC in Oyo state during the last governorship election, winning in twenty-eight local government areas while APC won in only five.” “The only judgement that can remain consistent with the electoral desires of the people of that state is that which confirms the victory of the PDP in that election. Adedibu and APC’s direct evidence at the State Election Petition Tribunal, even if acceded to, cannot harm or injure the outcome of the election,” it added.
The party also demanded an urgent revisit of the electoral bill by the National Assembly. Recall that the 8th Assembly under the leadership of Senator Bukola Saraki had proposed an Electoral Act Amendment Bill which was vetoed by President Muhammadu Buhari. The leaders however renewed calls for a review of the bill. While making a case for the review of the electoral bill, the party said the bill must be signed so that results can be transmitted electronically.
It condemned the growing use of security agencies in untoward manners to compromise election results in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), especially during the last elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states.
. We are talking about legal tussle these party illiterates are holding conference.Whatever you say here does not determine the outcome of the case at the supreme Court. In the case of Osun what happened when the PDP lost at. the SC? When Atiku lost there what happened? Makinde should charge his lawyers to properly represent him not this needless press conferences. The winner of the election was determined by the majority votes not the no of the local governments won.If the SC sustains the appeal court judgement. heaven won't fall.Fresh election ,rerun election or new winner can be announced depending on what is in the petition and there is nothing all the pot-bellied politicans at this time wasting press conferences would do to it.
Muhammad2468: The political crisis in the Edo state has degenerated further with the state House of Assembly declaring vacant the seats of 12 lawmakers-elect yet to be inaugurated.
All the 24 state legislators in Edo are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The deputy speaker of the assembly, Yekini Idiaye, told journalists in Benin that the resolution to declare the seats vacant was reached during plenary on Wednesday.
The seats declared vacant are Etsako West I, Etsako West II, Owan East, Owan West, Etsako Central, Etsako East and Esan Central. Others are Uhunmwonde, Oredo East, Oredo West, Egor, Ovia North East I, Ovia North East II and Ovia South-west I.
Mr Idiaye said the members representing Oredo East and Owan East state constituencies, who were sworn-in, failed to meet the mandatory 181-day sitting requirement for a member in a calendar year. Mr Idiaye said the other affected members failed to present themselves for the inauguration.
“Their constituents have been complaining and have come to us that they want their voices and concerns to be heard at the House. So, people who are willing to provide quality representation have to be elected to bring the matters of the distraught constituents to the floor for debate and legislation, where necessary,” he said. Tussle
The 12 lawmakers were among the 15 excluded from the controversial inauguration of the state assembly in June because of the power-tussle between the national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, and the Edo governor, Godwin Obaseki.
Nine out of 24 lawmakers met at night to inaugurate the assembly and elect a speaker, Frank Okiye.
Their exclusion of the others, PREMIUM TIMES learnt, was to prevent Mr Oshiomhole’s loyalists from taking control of the state legislature.
The 12 lawmakers-elect have been since fled to Abuja for fear of their safety. One of the affected lawmakers-elect, Washington Osifo, accused Mr Obaseki of “bringing back gangsterism” into the state politics.
“I have told people, this is not the governor I used to know,” Mr Osifo, who was elected to represent Uhunmwode State Constituency, told PREMIUM TIMES, in July.
“The governor I used to know when he came (into power) was against any form of gangsterism.
“But because he is now gunning for a second term, all those things he came out to condemn, he is now the one welcoming them – arrogance, gangsterism – he has brought them back into the system,” Mr Osifo said.
Obaseki is digging the grave of his downfall.APC made him governor. It was Oshiomole that campaigned for him.He hardly said anything during campaign. If APC refuses to use him again he can never win in Edo state. Those pushing him have no plan for him at all. From all indications his days are numbered as the governor.
fergie1989: The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday dragged Barr. Aisha Alkali Wakil popularly called Mama Boko Haram to court over allegations of fraud amounting to N66 million, TheNation has revealed.
Mama Boko Haram along with Tahiru Alhaji Saidu Daura, the Programme Manager of Complete Care and Aid Foundation, an NGO owned by Barr. Aisha Wakil was also joined in the suite. The case which was read before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri on a-3 count charge borders on “cheating and conspiracy to the tune of N 66m”.
Ali Tijjani, the petitioner alleged that, on 7th September, 2018, his company was awarded a contract to supply processed maize grain otherwise called BISKI worth N51m.
He further alleged that, his company collected the said grain from Maiduguri Flour Mills and supplied it to the NGO and was received by one Tahiru Alhaji Saidu Daura on behalf of Complete Care and Aid Foundation.
Tijani also alleged that the duo requested AMTMAT Global Ventures to process and fund the CEO and Programme Manager’s trip to Morocco to the tune of N51m.
Count two reads: “That you TAHIRU SAIDU DAURA, while being a Programme Manager of COMPLETE CARE AND AID FOUNDATION, AISHA ALKALI being the CEO of COMPLETE CARE AND AID FOUNDATION. On the 7h September, 2018 at Maiduguri within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court dishonestly induced ALI TIJJANI the CEO and Alter Ego of AMTMAT Global Ventures to deliver to you processed Maize grains (BISKI) valued at N51, 000,000.00 (Fifty Five Million Naira) which you are yet to pay and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 320(a) and punishable under Section 322 of the Penal Code Cap 102 Laws of Borno State.”
The defendants pleaded not guilty to all the counts.
The prosecution counsel, Fatsuma Muhammad applied for a trial date and requested for the remand of the defendant in the Correctional Centre.
In her ruling, Justice Kumaliya ordered awarded N30 bail against the defendant and two sureties in the like sum. Those sureties according to the judge must be at the level of a permanent secretary in the Civil Service and must equally have landed property in GRA, Maiduguri with the property’s tittles deposited with the court registrar.
The matter was adjourned to January 13, 2020 for trial.
. Where is the fear of God? where some people are suffering these people are making money on them.Yet they use hijab and appear to be religious.Same among Christians. When will the Bible and the Quaran that we read have effects on our lives and how we treat others? Certainly corruption will never end in Nigeria
pacespot: Thank you for this, i had wanted to ask op this question. What if the next-of-kin is the son of the deceased with his name written as the next-of-kin in the official document where his late father worked and he happened to process the gratuity and pension of his deceased father from the government, what law will be applicable in that regard, or does he need to process the letter of administration for himself to be able to collect the money?
. Good contribution sir! A man had four wives .He was a police officer. After his death all his wives started heated argument and fight because of his pension and money he had in bank. His lawyers informed them none of their names was used as the next of kin so they could not legally collect the money.Surprisingly the man used one of his daughters who was organisational and caring. She was outside the country then. She came back yo Nigeria to collect the pension and money in the bank. In some situations some agencies and parastatalls and companies have even columns for Next of kin and who to contact in case of death and accident to emphasise the relevance of next of kin. Additionally a will must be respected. If the will says the property including money must be given to Mr A while the next of kin is Mr C, Mr C will collect the property including the money and give it to Mr A as contained in the deceased will.If this is not done accordingly legal action will take place against the custodian of the deceased property including money.
johnaruson: WHAT THE LAW SAYS ABOUT NEXT-OF-KIN IN NIGERIA
Are you among those that think by giving a name to financial institutions (bank for example) as next-of-kin you have chosen that person to automatically inherit your wealth in the event of your demise? In other words, do you think by merely picking someone as your next-of-kin you have made that person a beneficiary to your wealth or entitlement(s) in the event of your death?"Let us attempt a little legal analysis based on two factors: whether the deceased has a Will (a document written by a deceased when he was alive that prescribes how his property is to be shared when he dies) or whether he dies without a will
In law when a person dies leaving behind a will, he is said to have died testate. In such a circumstance, Issue of next-of-kin becomes useless. The reason is that the wealth of the deceased will simply be shared in line with the contents of the will.
The position is still the same even where the deceased dies without leaving a will. The position is that when a person dies without a will, the question as to who to inherit his wealth is determined by law, that is to say, customary law, or Islamic law or English Law or the Administration of Estates law (or equivalent legislation) not whom the deceased mentioned in his bank or place of work as next-of-kin.
How then do we know the law to be applied in sharing the property of the deceased? The law to be applicable in distributing the estate of the deceased shall be determined by the incidence of marriage of the deceased. If a deceased contracted a statutory marriage, succession to his wealth will be effected in accordance with either the English law or the Administration of Estates Law (or equivalent legislation), depending on the jurisdiction. See Obuzez V. Obuzez (2007) 10 NWLR (Pt. 1043) 430.
Under English Law and the administration of estate laws of various state, the surviving spouse together with the children of the deceased inherit his estate to the exclusion of every other person. The parents of the deceased takes next after the surviving spouse and children, followed by brothers and sisters of the full blood, brothers and sisters of half blood, grandparents, aunties and uncles of full blood relation to the parents of the deceased etc. See Kekereogun & Ors v. Oshodi (1971) LPELR-1686(SC) subject however to contrary provisions under the administration of estate laws of various states.
Where however the deceased contracted a customary marriage, then customary law will determine who will inherit the property of the deceased. That is to say in the circumstance, heirs are those who are under native law and custom entitled to inherit his estate. For Muslims, Islamic law determines who to inherit the deceased estate.
Therefore, under the Nigerian law of intestate succession, one cannot choose his heir under the pretext of next-of-kin; the law imposes heirs on him. For example it is the surviving spouse and children of an intestate who married under the Act that are his heirs. The intestate cannot therefore, by naming only one of them or any of his other blood relatives his next-of-kin, scheme them out of inheritance as the act of naming his next-of-kin does not amount to testamentary disposition.
In view of the foregoing, there is nothing special about next-of-kin as far as succession is concerned. "Next-of-kin is merely the first contact point if anything happens to you. He is someone empowered to make decisions for you in times of emergency or where you are not readily available or unable to make the decisions yourself."- E. Kalu Ekpu Esq. Your Next of kin is someone empowered to provide necessary information about you where needed such as confirming your identity. He is also someone positioned to make medical decisions such as providing consent for a medical procedure. At best, what a next-of-kin can do after the demise of the deceased is perhaps to ensure that necessary steps are taken towards obtaining letter of administration from the probate. The typical Nigerian's conception of the term, "next-of-kin" is therefore erroneous.
A next-of-kin can inherit only if he is named in a Will as a beneficiary or by his status he is entitled by law to inherit but not actually because he is named as the next-of-kin of the deceased in a bank or place of work.
. Will is a statement of how property is to be shared.Possession of some property after a persons death is determined by regulation guiding the property...If for example if a person name is written in a bank document or pension document as the next of kin the money will be given to the person . not all wives and children. The recipient will share the property accordingly.... Additionally if a deceased has a land property and he has no will at death the content of the land document will determine how to share the piece of land.
. I have said it over and over that border closure will take Nigeria non where. It cannot give ius food security and make us a developed country...I agree with Falana on this......
NwekeUG: IgbereTV reports that, Mrs. Esther Kehinde Sowore, the mother of the #RevolutionNow Convener Omoyele Sowore, has made a video note in which she appealed to President Buhari and the Department of State Services (DSS) to release Sowore since he has fulfilled his bail conditions.
Mrs. Esther called on all Nigerian mothers to speak out as all her son wanted was a good future for the Nigerian child.
She said her son will not run away because he is not a criminal.
She said: “Dear SSS, Dear Buhari, I am Yele Sowore’s mother. I am sending you this message as a mother. I am a woman, your mother is a woman, your wife is a woman also. This is December and Yele has been taken away since August.
“He always comes to me in the village every December but you have been holding him. I am a widow, my son has always been like that. He speaks against injustice and stands up against it. He doesn’t run away, he faces his case. Please release him and let him face his case in court. I know him, he can’t run away because he knows he has not committed any crime.
“You are a Muslim, please in the name of Allah, leave my son, release him. I call on all mothers to speak out, let us join voice for the sake of the future of our children.
“Omoyele is only asking for a better Nigeria so that all our children can have good future. My mind is disturbed that he has not been allowed to go for medical care since August. Alhaji Bichi Yusuf, please obey the law since you have gone to court release Omoyele Sowore now.
“Since I gave birth to him, he always speaks against evil. Even in the village, before he went to school in Lagos, he has always been like that. He is not a criminal, release Sowore now. Please release my son because you have your own son, you take care of your son, let me take care of my children.
“I am a widow, release my son. I cannot eat, I cannot sleep and it is affecting my health. Please release Omoyele Sowore, my son. He is not a criminal. Omoyele is not a criminal, leave him.”
Like mother like son....The message of this woman is clear but the approach is bad. ...My son hates injustice. He wants a better Nigeria....Injustice by whom? better Nigeria from whom? The way your village is run is not the way Nigeria as a country is run. However though your son created the problem for himself I pray for his release if all conditions have been met and the government is satisfied that his release will not pose a threat to Nigeria as a country
. Many go to church because they need miracles not that they want to serve God. Such ones are usually deceived by fake pastors who dont know anything in the Bible....Region has become a way making money and becoming millionaires....Certainly not those who say lord lord will enter into the kingdom of God
valentineuwakwe: Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, and his co- detainee, Adebayo Bakare , on Tuesday , described the Federal Government’ s application for their transfer from the custody of the Department of State Service to prison as frivolous , vexatious and unarguable. They said the fresh application filed by the government before Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court in Abuja was meant to frustrate the court’s order for their release from DSS custody . They also described the application filed on behalf of the Federal Government by the prosecuting counsel, Hassan Liman ( SAN) , as contemptuous for being a contravention of the order directing the DSS to release them from custody . This is contained in their notice of preliminary objection filed before the court to challenge the Federal Government ’s fresh application . Sowore and Bakare are being prosecuted before the court by the Federal Government on charges of treasonable felony instituted against them in the wake of their call for # RevolutionNow protests across the country to demand better governance. The DSS continues to hold them in custody since August when they were arrested, despite separate court orders directing their release from custody . The latest of the court orders was the one issued by Justice Ojukwu on meeting the bail conditions imposed on them after their arraignment. They argued, through their legal team led by Mr . Femi Falana (SAN) , that the application for their transfer from the DSS custody to prison, showed that there was no genuine interest to prosecute them. Grounds of the application read, “ The application was filed by the Complainant/ Applicant to frustrate the execution of the order of release of the 1st and 2nd defendants /objectors from the custody of the State Security Service made by this Honourable Court on November 6, 2019. “ There is no genuine intention to prosecute the 1st and 2nd defendants by the complainant /applicant as the statement of witnesses this Honourable Court ordered to be availed the defence team is yet to be issued and served . “ The grounds upon which the complainant’s / applicant’ s application is hinged are frivolous, vexatious, contemptuous , manifestly unarguable and unknown to law. ”
The government accused him of treason and felony because he allegedly held subversive meetings and organised a revolution protest against the government... The truth is as a contestant in the last election he should not have used the word Revolution .Protest only is enough. However the court will decide if he is guilty or not.In my opinion the government believes he is a threat to peace of Nigeria considering his conduct in detention and even when he was brought to Court. The government is hiding under section 258 of the constitution that anybody who is a threat to the country's peace can be detained for a long time.It is believed that with this development such an act will be discouraged.
Brandstudio01: Lawyers in the House, please what crime have this man committed exactly. Please name his crime in a Democratic government

Even for universities where is the job on graduation? In some situations depending on whom you know Poly graduated may get job first before University graduates and vice versa.
MyMouth: This country is in a mess! Elections are now won based on who controls the instrument of violence. So unfortunate
. I agree with you.It is when we start voting online that we can have a free and fair election in Nigeria..can this be a reality? It is an IMPOSSIBILITY in Nigeria for now.
seguntijan: Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has posed some tough questions to the Federal Government, asking why some federal agencies such as the Federal Inland Revenue Services, Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation are not captured on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System(IPPIS). ASUU Chairman, University of Abuja branch, Dr. Kassim Umaru, raised the query while puncturing the insistence of the Federal Government that its members must enrol on the platform. In a statement on Saturday, Umaru dismissed the payment system as a scam and said ASUU members will not join it. The Office of Accountant-General of the Federation said that data of university workers and colleges of education be captured on the system between Monday November 25 and December 7. Umaru said the National Executive Council of ASUU had a meeting and directed its members not to enrol, adding that the chapter will comply with the order from the national body. Umaru argued that the payroll system is totally in violation of university autonomy and does not have any legal backing. He faulted the government for resorting to threats whenever there was disagreement between the union and government. Umaru urged the government to come to the table and discuss with the union instead of threatening to stop their salaries. “As far as we are concerned in the union, we have worked and we must be paid. Eventually, if the government decides to stop our salary then the NEC will reconsider the decision of the government then appropriate action will be taken,” “There is massive corruption in IPPIS. Did government care to investigate IPPIS itself? We are saying why is CBN not in IPPIS? Why is NDIC not in IPPIS? Why is Federal Inland Revenue not in IPPIS? But the lecturers who are just collecting stipends to be pulled into IPPIS so that our legal entitlement will not be paid. “We are not going to allow it. We are not going to be part of the staff that are going to be enrolled in IPPIS. We took a resolution and we are reaffirming the direction of the national, that is NEC. NEC took a decision that we are not going to get enrolled into IPPIS and you know what our union is actually against is that the university has an autonomy and if you look at it clearly, this autonomy we are saying is enshrined in Section 2AA of the University Miscellaneous Provision Amendment Act of 2003 which clearly explained the role of the Governing Council. “Even the Miscellaneous Act we are saying clearly stated that the power of the council shall be exercised as in the law and that status of each university. So it is clear we have an autonomy. Again, university is the peculiar nature of the appointment of university as academics. Our 2009 agreement which was negotiated by the federal government and our union is also there. So many issues are there and that is why our union is saying we should be allowed to produce a template which will have all these series of issues but not to have a center point of payment.” Aspects not captured by the IPPIS:
As submitted by Abubakar Sabo, ASUU Chair UDUS: 1. Provision for external examination for PhD and MSC students. 2. Provision for the payment of External assessment to which many would not have benefitted from and become professors. 3. Provision for casual staff such as those cleaners and gardeners that keep the university environment clean. 4. Provision for adjunct and part time lecturers who are professionals in their field but could not take full time appointment because they are already working elsewhere. 5. Provision for international experts who would want to come from world recognised universities to come and establish new programs in our universities and share their wealth of experience with us. 6. Provision for post graduate supervision which was completely removed from the platform The fact of the matter is that the government is saying universities should use their IGR to cater for all these and should this become a reality, universities will be left with no option but to re introduce tuition fees and charge higher fees from the students. Then we will now know that an average Nigerian cannot afford higher education again. That is world bank policy for you. The general idea is to localise our universities and make them unaccessible globally all in the name of a policy for payments of salary.
. IPPS is essentially on salary. All that are listed above are taken care of from the IGR of each school. ASUhas no logical reason for not joining the new salary system.
Pls I just registered this handle to avoid any form of backlash.
Here's my issue, I graduated in 2015 and I've been doing several things to keep body and soul together. However, late this year I got a teaching job in my states Civil service. The pay is somewhere BTW 45 to 50k and my place of assignment is in a rural area.
Pls also note that I do not have an education certificate which if I do not acquire soonest might cost me some years in promotions and maybe my job eventually.
On the other hand, I would like to pursue and build my career in the discipline I studied in school (a technical inclined course)and also further my education here (masters degree) which might provide me with better job opportunities and my teaching job provides ample time for this.
Well, the cause of my present dilemma is this - Recently, I got shortlisted for a job as a contract staff in a bank. I have just been deployed and I've been directed to resume within the week. The pay is around 85k per month plus other benefits.
Right now, I am confused if I should stick with the govt teaching job or I should go for the contract bank work which initially is for a period of 1 year after which it might be renewed (dicey). Pls I need the advice of people who have been in my shoe or in it currently? Which do I go for? What do I do?
garfield1: The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate of the Ajaokuta Federal Constituency rerun election, Hon Idirisu Lawal has emerged winner of Saturday election.
According to the result announced by the returning officer, Prof Rabiu Balarabe, Lawal polled 13,738 votes in the affected 22 polling units to defeat the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Aloysius Okino who recorded 9,176 votes.
The Appeal Court, in October, had ordered for Rerun into Ajaokuta constituency in the House of Representatives in 22 polling units.
The court, in its ruling, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct rerun elections in 22 polling units in the constituency. The appeal was filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate, Aloysius Okino.
Before the rerun, Lawal had 9040 while Okino had 9035 making the returned lawmaker leading with just 5 votes.
But the rerun produced 4,698 for APC while PDP had 141; leading with 4557.
Reacting to INEC declaration of result, Lawal hailed the contributions of Governor Yahaya Bello, the administrator of Ajaokuta LGA, Hon. Mustapha Akaaba and the member representing Ajaokuta Constituency in the state Assembly, Hon. Abdullahi Hassan Balogun for standing tall to ensure the victory of the party.
He also commended INEC for conducting a credible free and fair re-run and the security agencies for creating a peaceful and calm environment for the electorate at the 22 polling units across the Constituency.
In a statement personally signed by Lawal, he applauded the youths for their unalloyed support and prayers throughout the process. He congratulated Senator Smart Adeyemi who also emerged winner of the just concluded supplementary election in Kogi West.
. For an election to be won in Nigeria there must an element of rigging either directly or indirectly. The masses are used for this purpose. I know Dino would lose and his process of becoming irrelevant has just started.By 2023 he must have gone into extinction.politically. Congratulations to the two winners.Whether rigged or not winners are winners.
References: Results trickling in from polling units across Kogi West senatorial district where Supplementary election took place has indicated that the candidate of the APC, Senator Smart Adeyemi is extending his leading margin.

agwom: The federal government has directed that all unqualified teachers should be removed by December 31, 2019. The Registrar, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Olusegun Ajiboye, stated this while inducting over 200 Education graduates of the University of Ibadan.
According to him, quacks teaching Nigerian children would be replaced by qualified and certificated Education graduates to mould sound future leaders for the country. The registrar noted that teachers must stand shoulder-to-shoulder with other professional groups in the knowledge-driven economy. While administering the Oath of Practice on the inductees, Professor Ajiboye reiterated that any teacher found wanting in the code of practice would be sanctioned. He also said Nigerian teachers now have a separate and unique career path with the recent approval of the Teachers’ Career Path by the National Council on Education. “It is worthy to stress the importance of today’s induction ceremony in line with government directives.
The federal government has directed that by 31st of December 2019 all unqualified people practising the profession of teaching would be swept from the classroom and their places would be occupied by young and vibrant professional teachers like you. We need to appreciate the fact that education unlocks the key to modernization, but the teacher holds the key to that door. He is the hub of any educational system and the major determinant of its quality. This is so because he is saddled with the responsibility of translating educational policies into practice and programmes into actions and therefore my dear inductees, you have a big role to play in changing the pendulum of affairs in your place of service.”
. How will teachers who are not paid regularly be motivated to register as professionals? When teachers are well paid abroad they only get peanuts in Nigeria.Imagine a principal collecting less than 100k in Nigeria after close to 35 years in service! Instead of overhauling the educational system the government is emphasing TRC which is just a professional body that has nothing to do with the teachers productivity and commitment to the service.
Topsydo: Good morning all, please I need your advice on this, I am a recent graduate of polytechnic and I have complete my Nysc and currently I have been offered a job as a contract staff of access bank with 85k per month and now I have been shortlisted for an interview in a federal university for d post of technologist at the ICT centre of d sch, now I am confused on what to do maybe to attend the interview and drop the banking job I just got not up to a month.

supercase1: *PEACEFUL GROUP: witnesses are always law abiding u don't see them fight, riot, steal or perpetuate social disorder unlike some religious groups in our country whose trademarks are violence and interrifts
*NO RACISM AMONG THEM: JW are found in over 276 countries, witnesses are the only true people with a true sense of global unity, a witness from Russia would readily host a witness from Mali just as he would do to his blood brother, or a white witness member would host a black witness member just as a United family. There is no form of racism or tribal discriminations among witnesses
PREACHING THE GOSPEL: witnesses are always active preaching the gospel about God kingdom as Jesus always preached while he was on earth, unlike most religious leaders today that preach about prosperity and money forgetting the main mission giving by Jesus which states AND THE GOOD NEWS OF THE KINGDOM WOULD BE PREACHED TO ALL INHABITANTS OF THE EARTH, AND THEN THE END WILL COME
You see, witnesses are the only Christian group doing Jesus and God will on earth
. I attended three of their Love Never Fail conventions this year in different locations around the globe. No police officer no special seat for anybody no special dress for anybody. No police officers or security agents with thousand in attendance. I was impressed with all I saw. Though they are not perfect and they can make mistakes , they are organised disciplined and focused Christians.

chibaby1985: The House of Representatives on Wednesday called for the abolishment of ‘acceptance fees’ paid by students offered admission into various institutions in Nigeria.
A motion moved by Emeka Chinedu, PDP-Imo (Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency), Wednesday got the lawmakers debating about how to reverse this trend.
Leading the debate, Mr Chinedu said one of the factors contributing to poor access to tertiary education is the “predatory admission policies being enforced by tertiary institutions, particularly the requirement for payment of non-refundable acceptance fees as a condition precedent for admission”.
He added that “it should bother the lawmakers that his state’s Imo State University charges N70,000 as acceptance fee.”
“Other institutions like the University of Ibadan charge 35,000; University of Lagos, 20,000; Ahmadu Bello University, 30,000; Lagos State University, N20,000; University of Uyo, 25,000,” he said.
He, therefore, moved that the fee be abolished. He was unanimously backed by his colleagues.
Resolution
The House also mandated the House Committee on Tertiary Education and Services “to investigate the admission policies and practices of tertiary institutions in the country as they relate to the charge of acceptance fees in order to remove all obstacles to accessing tertiary education in the country.”
Meanwhile, Idowu Olayinka, vice chancellor of the University of Ibadan, has said his institution will comply with the directive.
He said the amount accruing to the University of Ibadan, for instance, in a year is not enough to fund the university in a month. “Therefore, the school has to look for alternative means to source for funds”.
“Someone has to take up the bill,” he said. “We have to make up our mind on what we really want. You can’t even run a creche without funds. In a year, we spend at least N200 million on our clinic contactors. Add this to electricity bill and diesel, then you’re talking of over N800 million.
“What the university is getting for overhead is less than N100 million. So where do you think the remaining N700 million will come from? Unless you want to close down the whole university,” he added.
. I am yet to understand the payment of acceptance fees for the admission u applied for and the use of post UTME for admission exercise. What have we achieved so far in the frustrating exercise? All these are what the Senate and Rep should stop in the interest of the masses.
opportunes: The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has described alleged disobedience of President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to laws of the land as the greatest corruption. The union spoke on the latest directive by the Federal Government that her officials will move to campuses to begin enrolment of university workers on the Integrated Personnel Payroll and Information System (IPPIS).
ASUU, while reacting through its University of Ibadan Chairman, Professor Deji Omole, stated that the union cannot be harassed or intimidated by those who have penchant for breaking the law of the land. According to him, breaking existing laws with impunity is the greatest corruption. Omole added that it is worrisome that a government under democracy is afraid of negotiation and dialogue but prefers to use force.
The ASUU boss maintained that the union will use available democratic means to prevent the violation and desecration of the Nigerian University system which the children of the President and top government officials do not find worthy of attending. “The government’s pronouncement to forcefully enrol university workers is an act of violence against the university system. It is worrisome for a government under democratic dispensation to resort to force rather than dialogue.
“If not, why is the government afraid of negotiations. We are not perturbed by the directive. A government claiming to be fighting corruption should not break the law. “The university Autonomy Act is very clear on university administrators. There is no greater corruption than those breaking the law of the land. Breaking of existing laws with impunity is the greatest corruption anywhere in the world; we refused to be harassed or intimidated. “We are not strangers in this country.
We are veritable stakeholders. We cannot be harassed. We have told them what to do. Let the government come back to negotiation’s table and let’s discuss the grey areas. Forceful enlistment will not solve the problem. “We are not disturbed but we are worried, government is getting dictatorial. A supposedly democratic government is getting dictatorial,” Omole said.
