Omooba77:
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, on Wednesday said though the Supreme Court had dismissed the appeal of the party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, against the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari, the final judgement comes from God almighty.

He stated that Nigeria is in such an untidy state that only God can
bail her out.

He spoke in a statement by his media aide, Ike Abonyi, while
responding to the judgement of the Supreme Court dismissing their
appeal against the victory of Buhari and the All Progressives Congress in the February 29 election.

He urged Nigerians to remain resolute in their prayers to God, adding that the country is in such “an untidy state that only God can bail” her out.

Secondus commended Nigerians of all divide for their commitment and support to the party and to democracy.

He said the commitment of Nigerians to democracy and its tenets,
“despite inhibiting factors,” is worthy of emulation and highly
commendable.

He said, “We thank you for your support for PDP, for your commitment to democracy.

“Nigerians know that you voted PDP, even APC knows that you rejected them on February 23, 2019.

“International community knows you voted for PDP. If Supreme Court of seven justices says otherwise, leave it to God, the ultimate Judge.”

He also commended journalists for their commitment to democracy and good governance in Nigeria and urged them not to relent in their
roles of holding politicians accountable to the people.

Probably one of the swiftest rulings ever given by the Apex court and it shows how nonsensical the petition was and how stupid the PDP lawyers who led Atiku to the guillotine were. They knew he would lose yet kept on fleecing him with their lies of hope. Atiku is indeed a FOOL

TonyeBarcanista:
Updates from the Supreme Court:

The PDP and Atiku/Obi lead counsel, Dr. Livy Uzochukwu applied to tender some new applications before the court.

The CJN, and other Justices of the Supreme Court argued that parts of the pleadings in the new applications are already in the appeal submitted to the court and asked the PDP and Atiku/Obi to adopt or consolidate on the appeal.

But Dr. Uzochukwu countered that the new applications are different and serves a different purposes and should be admitted.

The court has risen to retune in 15 minutes in order to allow the PDP and Atiku/Obi to take decision on consolidating on the new applications and the main appeal.

The names on the panel are:

Nigerians can protest too if they are not happy about a government policy. It is in the constitution to do so without causing violence. However revolution is tantamount to treason and felony. The question is can there be a peaceful protest in Nigeria? Answer is NO.Nigerians are not united for a common course. To illustrate while many Nigerians believe border closure is adding making life difficult many believe it js good and it should continue. Until we have a common VOICE. Nigerians will continue to suffer in silence. The rich will smile while the poor will continue to wallow in squalor.

Penaldo:
Presidential Election Petition Appeal: Highlights of PDP and Atiku/Obi’s Appeal at the Supreme Court. #JusticeNow #JusticeForNigeria #RescueNigeria #ReclaimThePeoplesMandate

1. The PDP and Atiku/Obi are asking the Supreme Court to reject the Cambridge International Certified Statement of result tendered by Chief Wole Olanipekun on behalf of the APC Candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari.

The statement of result was hurriedly acquired by the Chief of Staff to President Buhari, Abba Kyari on July 18, 2019 long after February 23, 2019.

This document was neither pleaded nor frontloaded as required by law. One of the highpoint of Abba Kyari’s testimony that shocked Nigerians was his admittance that he personally signed and collected the said statement of result on behalf of President Buhari. Which institution will allow another person sign and collect statements of result on behalf of a candidate in an election.

This purported statement of result was admitted in court in evidence. The court of appeal erred in law when it relied on the phrase “overall interest of justice to admit to the said document and relied on it on its judgment.

2. Another Ground is on the interpretation of the word “Form” as stated by the Justice Garba Lawal’s court. The court of appeal had held that “Form” as referred to in Section 76 of the electoral Act, 2010 as amended is not connected to the Form CF001 but only forms used during elections and not before elections.

Here, Justice Garba and his colleagues held that a candidate is not required by the constitution and the electoral act to attach his certificates to the “Form” before he can be adjudged to possess the requisite qualification to contest an election.

But Atiku and the PDP in their appeal is arguing that the court erred in law as the said “Form CF001” clearly provides a column for “schools attended and educational qualifications with dates”. furthermore, in their submission they contend that the form also contains a clear provision written “attach evidence of all educational qualifications”.

In the particulars of error, the appellants (PDP and Atiku/Obi) highlights that the conduct of election starts with the screening of candidates and that no candidate can be screened without completing the “Form” CF001, and that certificates are evidence of educational qualification.

3. The supreme court is also invited by the PDP and Atiku/Obi to review the conclusion of the presidential election petition court where it held that the petitioners did not plead that President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to attach his certificates amount to lack of qualification to contest the election.

Referring to paragraphs 388-405 of the petition, Atiku and the PDP argued that they had pleaded and proved the allegation that President Buhari gave “false information of a fundamental nature to INEC”.

They further brought to the attention of the supreme court a recent judgement it delivered on the 30th of July where the apex court interpreted the meaning and standard of proof of false information in the case involving AA Modibbo and Mustapha Usman where the supreme court sacked a serving member of the House of Representatives.

Citing the legal principle of stare decisis, the PDP and Atiku/Obi contends that the Justice Mohammed Garba’s led presidential election petition court failed to consider and apply the supreme court authority but merely referred to it.

4. Atiku and the PDP also submit that the court of appeal’s conclusion was speculative when it inferred that President Buhari presented his certificate to the army for documentation based on his army form 199a.

Their argument here is that, Justice Garba’s court did not rely on evidence led but by assumptions and presumptions that President Buhari possesses the certificates he claims. they have argued that common-sense holds no role in proof of facts before a court, insisting that President Buhari himself failed to produce any single certificate in support of his claim.

5. The PDP and Atiku/Obi also described the lower courts position that President Buhari was “eminently qualified” as gratuitous and unsolicited.

The PDP and Atiku/Obi also submits that the court of appeal made a case for President Buhari in which none of his lawyers made, when it referred to a newspaper publication to validate his qualification.

6. The supreme court has also been invited to review the position of the Appeal Court that the petitioners dumped their exhibits on the issue of unlawfulness of votes without calling their makers to testify.

Atiku and the PDP have argued that the exhibits tendered before the lower court were certified true copies of electoral documents, and being public documents there was no need to call the makers.

Prayers by the Appellants (PDP and Atiku/Obi)

The prayers by the appellants (PDP and Atiku/Obi) is that the court of appeal’s decision be set aside, and that the supreme court should declare Atiku as the rightful winner or in the alternative nullify the February 23, 2019 Presidential Poll and Order for a fresh election.

It’s time to #RescueNigeria
. Nobody made any comment on the issues raises in the appeal of Atiku and PDP.I want to believe making any comment on it is a waste of time. However I will make some comments on the appeal while trying ro save my precious time from this frivolous voyage embarked upon by Atiku and PDP...The issues raises are 1 Is PMB qualified. Answer is YES .He presented his result and certificate in court. Can the certificate be collected on proxy? Answer yes depending on the personality concerned.Jonathan:s certificate got burnt and a new one was issued by UNIPORT on proxy .Jonathan did not leave Abuja then..... Is it a necessity to attach result to form? Answer is NO .Constitution and electoral acts did not make it madantaory. It is the INEC that will verify itself if the candidate has a certificate or not. 2.. Was the Presidential election free and fair.Answer is YES. until it is proved otherwise. However for it to be proved otherwise it mist beyond every REASONABLE DOUBT .This is where PDPand ATIKU failed. as Buhari and Falae failed in those days. An experienced and sincere SAN will know that all the issues raised in the outstanding appeals will be decided in favour of PMB....

Dozzywest:
I think the land border closures is a right and necessary step to causing an economic implosion that will resonate prosperity in all sectors of the economy, especially Agriculture and Manufacturing.

But the problem remains if our law enforcement agencies can ensure a water tight security around the borders and other porous areas and flashpoints to dissuade smuggling.

This is also the right time to promote the local content initiatives, by bringing in the best hands and heads together.

I personally, always have my reservations about some economic policies coming out from Buhari's 'kitchen'. Maybe years to come would either prove me right or wrong about this move.
. There is no sense in having a policies that will make life difficult for masses.Nobody does that in any foreign country.. border closure is a policy that is not well planned for...Before the border is closed. local products like rice beans and so on must be affordable with low prices. This is not the case in Nigeria.Foreign rice 1200. local rice 800.Any sense?Nobody among the politician today in Nigeria eats local rice. They all eat imported grade 1 rice.It is true we have some local food but that does not mean that border must be closed....if local food is not expensive then we are discouraging foreign food.... Until then politicians will continue to enjoy life while masses will continue to suffer....We cannot continue to suffer while we are claiming income is increasing every day.Is that the way to care for the citizens?.Finally until local food is affordable closure of border is mischievous and callous....
Health › Re: Sad And Depressed!! I Am In My 20s And Impotent by ejimatic: 5:55am On Oct 22, 2019
Hope777:
Always thought securing a future is always about working hard today and reaping the benefits tomorrow, however I am a now convinced that this is only an ideal case and your future is not in your hands like people say. There are external factors that interfere with our future.

I have basically been a hardworking person right from school, working hard to ensure my parents are proud and giving my best in any way I can. Unfortunately it seems like I am not destined for the great future I have always dreamt about.

I noticed early this year that I have a condition that makes me impotent. I can get erections while laying down but lose it while standing/sitting (I wouldn't mind if it will always remain this way but I hear it only gets worse) I visited several specialist doctors and it appears they barely understand this condition and end up saying it is psychological.

I have done my research for a long time now from global writings and forum and discovered I have a venous leak: this is a condition where the veins in the male genital drains blood faster than the inflow of blood through the arteries making normal erection impossible. This may be caused by an accident/damage to the veins.

There have been times where I have had traumas to my genital but I never thought this will be an issue and didn't even notice this condition because I haven't been sexually active.

Now from my research there is no cure to this condition and it only gets worse (meaning even erection when laying down may go eventually).

I have been depressed and sucidal; I feel like there's no point to my life if I can have such a damaging condition. Not being able to have sex isn't the problem, however the pyschological trauma this gives me about my future is the problem. I am still very young!! Will I ever get a wife? The thought of not being normal kills me!

I wonder what I did to deserve this, I am sad, depressed and sucidal. Why does God allow bad things happen to people? I feel I am running mad because I cannot stop thinking about this. I just want to sleep and not wake up, or discover this is a dream if I do. Cc: dominique could you move this to.
. God is not wicked neither is he responsible for man"s suffering.James 1 vrs 13. .. Job 34 vrs 10 Sorry for this development and the stress you are going through..it is good you said you visited specialists and they described it as psychological because you have erection when lying down but no erection when standing.Irregular erection like this at times is caused by depression and psychological factors. However what kind of trauma did you say you had in the past? have you ever done the scrotal and penis scan? The scan will reveal how blood enters your penis and how it how it passes your veins to scrotums..If there is a leaked vein it will show and if there is vericose vein it will show it. Any leaked vein or vericose vein can be corrected by surgery. If the the sxan is done and no abnormality you will go to the next stage..If it ishows abnormality it will be corrected. Please dont kill yourself you will still enjoy sex and be tired of it soon

Christianity Etc › Re: How The Jehovah’s Witnesses Are Better Christians Than The Rest Of Us by ejimatic: 11:06am On Oct 20, 2019
TemmyT002:
Taking Nigeria as a case study, if you are not a Jehovah’s Witness, you must have heard from some pastors or some other Christians like you about how the Jehovah’s Witnesses teach the wrong gospel. You must have heard them say that they use the wrong Bible. They must have told you to kick them out of your house or never let them in. They might have even told you that listening to them could lead you to Hell Fire.

My view about them changed when I related with one of them during an external tutorial class. There was a single guy among the rest in a mixed class of Christians and Muslims. This guy was the only Jehovah’s Witness. We all had a lot of fun bullying him. We made jest of his bag and made jest of the fact that he was a Jehovah’s Witness.

Despite all these bullying, he never retaliated. We were still kids back then and our knowledge of the Bible was what we were taught in our different churches. We argued over some verses in the bible and the guy took pains to explain some topics based on what he had been taught. We all shut him down, of course.

Years later, I had the opportunity to visit one of their Kingdom Halls. I had read a lot of their FREE publications and I wanted to see what they did there. I was wowed. I have been to many other churches but this Kingdom Hall was different.

The surprising part was that after the service, I met this guy again and he was so happy to see me. I was surprised. I thought he would make jest of me and ask why I was there. Instead, he and the other people there showed me love.

How are the Jehovah’s Witnesses better Christians than the rest of us?

1. THEY FACE MORE PERSECUTIONS

The Bible says “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven”- Matthew 5:10

John 15:18- “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.”

2 Timothy 3:12 – “Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.”

You will agree with me that Christians in Nigeria also get persecuted but the persecutions occur mostly in the Northern part of Nigeria. Jehovah’s Witnesses, however, are many all over the world and they are persecuted more than all other Christians of different denominations. The recent one occurred in Russia.

The Southwestern part of Nigeria, which is full of the Yorubas is considered to be full of people who are tolerant and accept you into their society no matter your status or religion. However, Jehovah’s Witnesses still get persecuted there most of the time.

I watched an American movie about the Second World War and at the end of the movie, some statistics were listed based on the number of people who were killed by Hitler’s Soldiers. Apart from the Jews, the homosexuals, and blacks, I was surprised to see Jehovah’s Witnesses listed among them too.

2. DONATIONS ARE VOLUNTARY

Unlike in other Christian churches where people are forced or even threatened to make donations, donations in Kingdom Halls of the Jehovah’s Witnesses are quite voluntary. When you walk into one of their Halls, you will see a box right at the entrance calling you to make voluntary donations.

In other churches, publications are not free. Pastors and General Overseers write a lot of books. Some churches even produce a lot of books for the benefit of their congregations but these books are not free. This is different with Jehovah’s Witnesses.

In each Kingdom Hall, at least the ones I have been to, there is a special place where lots of books and publications are arranged. You can pick any book depending on the language you want for free.

You might have seen them giving out books on the streets and they would never ask you to buy them. They would instead ask you to make voluntary donations. Even if you don’t have money, you can go ahead and pick. They are more interested in making sure you gain the knowledge of God’s word.

3. MEMBERS AND SOCIAL MEDIA

Do you know a Jehovah’s Witness who doesn’t ‘preach’ on social media? When Jesus was leaving the earth, he asked his disciples to go all over the world and preach the gospel.

Thankfully, we are in the jet age where you can share information that can reach people all over the world. Unfortunately, today’s Christians rarely make use of this opportunity to preach the gospel.

There are lots of Christians who have huge followers on different social media platforms but unless they are pastors, you would rarely see them post anything related to the gospel on their accounts. Instead of sermons you will see them posting their beautiful pictures.

Jehovah’s Witnesses’ members post different topics on Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Pinterest, and so on. Whatever they learn in their Kingdom Halls or conventions, they make sure they share them online.

Other Christians prefer to share nonsensical topics and topics that won’t touch your life positively in anyway. They are supposed to share the sermons they learn from their different churches every Sunday but they would rather share posts concerning Big Brother Nigeria or other nonsense.

4. EVANGELISM

This is one of the things they are known for. Apart from the social media, radio and other modes of evangelism, the Jehovah’s Witnesses preach the gospel by walking from house to house.

Despite the fact that a lot of people reject them, they still keep on. Everything in their minds is looking for one or two people whose lives they can touch positively. You see them walking in the sun, with their umbrellas and bags, with no shame. They prefer to follow God’s instructions and they do this at least twice in a week, walking long distances.

5. TESTIMONIES

Their testimonies are different from those of other Christians. While other Christians give testimonies about what God has done in their lives, most of the testimonies usually involve material things of the world. This is good but there is always something missing.

Other Christians testify about the new cars they just purchased, the new child they just had, the new house they just built and so on. The testimonies of Jehovah’s Witnesses involve turning over a new leaf, giving their lives to Jesus and becoming a model example.

They have different stories on testimonies like these. When you read about people changing and turning over a new leaf, you will be encouraged and you will want to have the same experience. In one of their publications, I read about a Japanese Kamikaze soldier who fought in World War Two and then became a Jehovah’s Witness and began to preach the gospel. I was wowed.

6. THEY ARE ORDERLY AND CALM

Have you ever walked into a Kingdom Hall? As you approach the place, you would believe they are not holding any program because you won’t hear anything. It is only when you enter into the Hall that you will realize that there is a program going on after all.

Other churches love the use of loud speakers. You could be far away and you would hear the different speakers from different churches booming and screaming. Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Kingdom Halls do not pollute the air with noises.

During their programs, they never compete for Bible reading. We all know this. In Pentecostal churches, when the pastor calls a Bible verse, you see fifty people trying to read the same verse at the same time. You would think the fastest reader would be paid for it.

The ‘winner’ is usually the fastest reader. This usually causes fracas among the readers after church services and you may sometimes see two ‘readers’ keeping malice against each other.

The reverse is the case in Kingdom Halls. When a Bible verse is called or when a question is asked, people would raise their hands in order to respond. Everything is calm and quiet. You feel peace in your heart. You forget your problems.

7. SHOW OF LOVE

Many churches in Nigeria love to welcome newcomers. Some churches serve them foods and drinks and collect their phone numbers. The choir members sing a song of welcome and then some top leaders of different groups walk over to the newcomers to shake their hands and welcome. That’s all.

At the end of the program, everyone leaves and forget the newcomer. This occurs in most churches. When a newcomer’s phone number is gotten, all the church want to do is to make sure the newcomer becomes a member and comes always.

In Kingdom Halls, this is different. After the service, almost everyone walks over to you to shake your hand and welcome you with beautiful smiles. Then they politely ask if you would want free Bible study.

There are so many other ways by which the Jehovah’s Witnesses are better Christians than the rest of us and we need to emulate these qualities. There is a very big difference if we are being sincere with ourselves.

Showing love to one another is the key to peaceful nation. Despite the number of churches in Nigeria, in different states and in different streets, corruption is still rampant. Ethnic bigotry and tribalism is till rampant. Something is wrong somewhere and it is all in our hands to change things.

Emulating the qualities of the Jehovah’s Witnesses is the key.

. I agree with all you said here..If the whole world is made up of Jehovah's witnesses , there will be peace worldwide. Though they are not perfect they are better Christians .

SalemCiti:
An All Progressives Congress chief in Niger State, Jonathan Vatsa, has said the emergence of Nigeria’s President from the South-East in 2023 is a right and not a privilege.

Addressing journalists in Minna, Niger State capital on Friday, Vatsa, who is a former Niger State commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, said every well-meaning Nigerian, good Christian and Muslim must support a President of Nigeria of South-East extraction.

“If Nigerians have conscience, equity and justice demand that they should allow the Igbo to produce the next President in 2023.

“I am convinced that the Igbo have made their consultations from the North, South and the majority of them are in support of a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction.”

He expressed displeasure that some politicians from the North had called for the cancelation of rotational presidency between the North and South for what they termed meritocracy.

Vatsa said Ndigbo were highly detribalised and could be found in the remotest villages in Nigeria, living peacefully and doing their businesses and paying taxes.

He condemned the Arewa agitation for power to remain in the north, saying, “A lot of Arewa officials have been speaking that power should remain in the North as if it is their birthright; Nigeria belong to all of us and it is bigger than what we think it is. In the spirit of fairness, if we really want to be together, the Igbo should be given a chance in 2023.

“Apart from the time of Dr Nnamdi Azikwe and General Aguiyi Ironsi, we have never had Igbo President; so the Igbo should rise up and take what is due to them. The northerners are ready to support them and I am calling on the Igbo to speak with one voice if they must win in 2023. They must come together and forget their differences.”

He however warned that the Igbo should watch out for those who would collect money either from the north or South-West to sell their conscience, adding that the Igbo man should not be treated as second citizens in Nigeria.

Sleekbaby:
Please I need urgent and clear answer on this. An assignment was given to my niece to complete the following sentences with (a) or (an) and one of the questions is
-------------- happy girl.

I told her to fill it with (a) but the teacher marked it bad, I wrote on the book and asked if the "H" is silent in happy and she wrote back that it is a vowel.

I want to go there tomorrow but I want different views on it first.
. A is used for Happy and Hunter in English but an for Hour and Honest ....The problem is many teachers of English in Nigeria are not Language specialists. The only use ideas and their first language orientation to teach the subject.........Recently I was in a school where I saw a demonstration paper on the wall with the following: English speech sounds: A B C. D ...Z .The question is are they letters or or speech sounds ? Some English make up teachers don't know there are only Two alphabets in English namely Consonants and vowels while there are 26 letters..... Only those who are language specialists can know the rudiments of the language.

Ecstasy154:
• Workers demand documents as FG hikes
salary adjustments

• Lagos will pay more than N30,000, says
Gov Sanwo-Olu

Olufemi Atoyebi, Abuja

Organised labour on Tuesday demanded documents from the Federal Government to support its claims during a negotiation on the consequential adjustments on the New National Minimum Wage.

Labour suspended its planned strike as both sides agreed to continue negotiations today (Wednesday).

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, at the opening of the meeting, said the demand of the workers before the negotiation would shut down the economy.

But a source at the five hours meeting, which started at 2.45pm, confided in our correspondent that the labour leaders and the government’s representatives made concessions. He added that they failed to reach a definite agreement on the salary adjustments.

Before the meeting, labour was demanding 29 per cent salary increase for officers at salary grade levels 07 to 14 and 24 per cent adjustment for officers at salary grade levels 15 to 17, while the Federal Government proposed an 11 per cent increase for officers at grade level 07 to 14 and 6.5 per cent adjustment for workers at grade level 15 to 17.

The meeting broke into sessions on a few occasions when labour and government teams had to leave the general session to meet their teams separately before continuing with the joint session.

Our correspondent learnt that the labour team demanded a number of documents from government’s team to verify claims made by the Federal Government during the negotiation.

According to a source, who was part of the workers’ team at the meeting, labour lowered its position to 20 and 25 per cent, while government increased its offer to 17 per cent for workers at grade levels 07 to 09, 15 per cent for those at grade levels 10 to 14 and 12 per cent for workers at grade level 15 to 17.

The source said, “The two sides made concessions but in addition to the Federal Government concession, the team also introduced innovations which is strange to us. But we have asked for documents to back that position. However, whatever figures presented now at the meeting are mere proposals that labour is going home to examine critically before tomorrow’s (today) meeting.”

It was also learnt that the minister pleaded with the union leaders to consider the present state of the nation’s economy in their demands.

He said after the meeting that he was happy that there was no walkout or fight during the deliberation.

Briefing journalists, Ngige said, “I serve as the conciliator so I am not on any side. I belong to the two parties. As you can see, there was no fight and no walkout. That shows thatthings are going on well. We will continue tomorrow (Wednesday) because of areas that we could not touch.”

Addressing the media, the Nigeria Labour Congress Deputy President, Amaechi Asugwuni said, “For us at labour, the matters are straightforward but negotiations are still going on. We thought the meeting would be concluded today but that prediction was not successful. Therefore, adjournment became necessary. The struggle will still continue.

“We will meet again tomorrow (Wednesday) and that meeting will decide the fate of both parties. So far, commitments have been shown by both parties but we believe that the areas that are still in contest are critical and we urge government to see how it can shift ground positively. We expect that Wednesday’s meeting will end positively.”

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan, who spoke for the government team added, “We have worked together and both sides have made a lot of concessions but we discovered that there are areas to be ironed out. There are some documents and information that are being sought and which we are providing. We will continue tomorrow with the belief that we will reach an agreement.

But earlier on Tuesday, the Federal Government said the economy would be shut down, if it met the demands of the organised labour on the New National Minimum Wage.

Ngige, who stated this during the Federal Government’s meeting with labour leaders in Abuja, said the unionists should not misinform workers about the government’s position on the consequential increase in workers’ salaries as a result of the new minimum wage of N30,000.

The labour leaders had at a meeting with the minister on Monday submitted their proposal on percentages on consequential increases in the new minimum wage.

Ngige, in his opening speech before the technical session that government had with labour on Tuesday, said government would not intimidate workers.

The minister said the Federal Government’s personnel cost had increased astronomically and that accommodating more wage bill like what labour was demanding could shut the economy down.

Ngige stated, “It is a matter of balancing a budget that is 76 per cent recurrent and 24 per cent capital. For me, it is nothing to cheer about. In the 76 per cent, government has captured N200bn for the consequential adjustment for the minimum wage and so on. These are all parts of personnel.

Don’t threaten govt with strike, Ngige tells labour

“I don’t want labour to misinform workers. They should not be misinformed. Workers should know that this is a consequential adjustment and not a holistic wage review. We must give the government the benefit of the doubt. I am for labour and I will not sit and watch them being cheated. I will also not sit and watch labour intimidate government. If you dangle a strike, it is intimidation and the International Labour Organisation Convention does not permit it. People should negotiate freely. If government threatens you in the course of negotiation, it is intimidation.

“I am your friend and friend of government. In fact, government feels I am not doing enough. That is why I am talking to you so that you can talk to your people. We cannot allow the government to shut down the economy because it wants to pay salaries and wages.

“The 2020 budget of N10.3tr has N3.8tr as personnel cost without overhead. If you add running cost and other incidental costs, the total recurrent budget as presented to the National Assembly has taken 76 per cent. Where do we get the money to build roads, airport, rails, health centres, schools etc.?”

Congress, Amechi Asugwuni, leading the labour team

Before the meeting, Ngige received the leaders of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, led by its president, Ibrahim Khaleel.

Strike will fail – Labour faction

Workers were on Tuesday divided on whether they should go on a strike over the new minimum wage.

A breakaway faction of the NLC, condemned the strike being planned to embark upon by the Trade Union Congress and the Nigeria Labour Congress.

The ULC president, Joe Ajaero, in a statement, said the union said critical sectors that would make the strike to be successful were left out of the decision.

The statement said, “We were part of the 16-man technical committee that gave birth to the Tripartite Committee on the Review of the National Minimum Wage and in which we participated vigorously in all the processes leading to its negotiation and the various struggles to deliver it for the benefit of Nigerian workers and peoples.

“The dynamics of the struggle dictate that we mobilise all our constituents both primary and secondary to make for a successful strike. A man that intentionally goes to war without its most critical weapons has prepared himself to fail.

“Nigerian workers cannot be forced to negotiate from a position of weakness as in this case. Why would we want to go into a nationwide strike without mobilising all the national stakeholders and civil society organizations, market women and students?

“Obviously, the proposed nationwide strike is designed to fail or at best watered down to achieve nothing but to bring few Nigerian workers on the street to dance and wave flags without shutting down the economy which is the effect a nationwide strike ought to have”.

Lagos will pay more than N30,000

In Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said that the state was ready to pay more than the N30,000 benchmark for the new National Minimum Wage.

Sanwo-Olu, who said this during a meeting in Ikeja with the organized labour in the state, said the payment would start after the conclusion of the Federal Government and labour leaders’ negotiation.

He said, “As a government, we take the issue of minimum wage very seriously. We know how important and germane it is to the wellbeing of our people. We are technically ready to implement the new minimum wage. I made a commitment during my previous interactions with the labour unions before my assumption of office and I am still keeping to the promise made. However little it is, we will certainly pay more than N30,000 minimum wage.

“We understand the position Lagos occupies and we understand the challenges workers are facing in Lagos. If other states can raise that amount, I believe Lagos needs to show a bit more to appreciate workers’ contribution to the growth of our state.”

During an interaction with the labour union leaders, Sanwo-Olu listened to various demands of the workers, which included arrears of workers’ medical allowance, introduction of premium insurance for the workforce, timely pension payment for retired workers, mortgage scheme for housing, befitting labour secretariat and representation of workers’ unions in MDA boards’ appointments.

Zamfara ready for strike

Meanwhile, the NLC in Zamfara State has directed its members to stay at home as from Thursday if the Federal Government and the organised labour unions fail to agree on the new minimum wage.

In a statement in Gusau on Tuesday, the state NLC Secretary, Bitrus Gyang, said the congress had written all unions in the state to mobilise their members.

NLC, TUC fail to honour Reps’ invitation

The House of Representatives Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity has decried the failure by the organised labour to appear before it in Abuja on Tuesday.

The committee said the invitation was part of the lawmakers’ intervention in the crisis between the workers and the Federal Government over implementation of the new minimum wage.

Chairman of the committee, Mr Ali Wudil, said the intervention by the lawmakers was to prevent the looming industrial action by labour scheduled to begin on Wednesday.

The NLC, in its letter to the committee said it could not honour the invitation because of the Tuesday meeting with the Federal Government on the consequential adjustment of salaries.

https://punchng.com/labour-suspends-planned-strike-as-talks-continue-today/
. This is a misguided NLC which is easily deceived with empty promises. A sensible NLC will embark on the strike even for three days. That will make government expedite action on it.If three years is spent on negotiation is the whole exercise not just just a waste of time? At the end the presidency will reject the outcome of the meeting and form another committee.... Nothing has been achieved ...You called the strike off...This NLC is the problem of the Nigerian workers..... toothless gullible and senseless NLC

Politics › Re: Supreme Court Attacks CUPP Over Atiku’s Appeal by ejimatic: 7:24am On Oct 15, 2019
cyrilamx:
The Nigerian Supreme Court has expressed displeasure over what it termed ‘Unwarranted attacks’ by the coalition of United Political Parties(CUPP) led by Ikenga Ugochinyere.
The court, in a statement signed by its spokesman, Festus Akande, attacked the CUPP for attempting to ‘blackmail’ the court in its handling of the appeal filed by PDP and its Candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
The statement read; “In the light of the blatant falsehood, misinformation and malicious rumour being generously peddled by the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) through its spokesman, Imo Ugochinyere, we wish to state clearly that the association is not and can never constitute itself into an agency of the Nigerian Judiciary or assume the role of an alternate Supreme Court of Nigeria.”
“We have been watching rather cautiously the drama of the absurd being exhibited on daily basis by this association which sadly debases our collective morality and sense of decency as people from a civilized and well-cultured society like Nigeria.”
“Sensitive issues like the presidential election appeal should not, in all honesty, be taken to the altar of frivolous drama and misguided oration that is displayed on the screen of our national television with reckless abandon by people who ought to be some sort of role model to the younger generation.”
“It will be recalled that even weeks before the presidential election appeal was filed at the Supreme Court, the CUPP had already, in its characteristic manner, constituted its own ‘panel’ for the Supreme Court and aggressively brandished the list on television and newspapers.”
“Shortly afterwards, when the appeal was eventually filed at the court, the coalition came out once again with another imaginary list of panel members and followed it with yet another malicious allegation against the Chief Justice of Nigeria of ‘handpicking’ them in contrast to the ’tradition’ of selecting the most senior justices of the court.”
“Let it be known that the Supreme Court is not an assemblage of individuals with no defined purpose, vision and modus operandi.”
“Our operations are strictly guided by the Constitution and extant laws. We are not an appendage of any individual or group of people, and we don’t pander to the dictates of anybody or association.
“The Supreme Court, and by extension, the Judiciary, is an independent arm of government that can never be intimidated or dictated to by anybody.”
“The CUPP’s action only amounts to naming a baby before it is born. We should be mindful of our utterances to avoid inflicting devastating harm on the nation.”
“This exhibition of unbridled utterances and prevarication will only endanger the progress and cohesiveness of our country. The Supreme Court has been entertaining presidential election appeals over the decades, but the unnecessary hysteria and superlative drama being woven around this particular one calls for caution and moderation.”
“The constitution of any panel to sit on a matter in the court is the sole prerogative of the Supreme Court and it is never an issue for the court to debate on the television or pages of newspapers. We are not a political party or social club and should never be dragged into any form of baseless pedestrian discussions that will drive valid reasoning aground. Enough of this orchestrated falsehood and campaign of calumny.”
“We are here to serve the interest of the generality of the Nigerian masses and not a select individuals or groups with inordinate ambition.”
“As soon as the presidential appeal panel is constituted, the public will be duly informed as Supreme Court is not a secret society. Let us always observe caution when disseminating information to the public.”

https://politicsnigeria.com/breaking-supreme-court-attacks-cupp-over-atikus-appeal-full-report/amp/
. CUPP pushed Adeleke in Osun with insinuations and needless press conferences. At the end Adeleke crashed in Osun. The political party called CUPP has been doing the same for Atiku leading to its crash at PEPT.Now what is the business of the CUPP with the supreme court? I have said it before that the Supreme court headed by the CJN reserves the tight to set up an appeal panel. It is not a constitutional matter whether somebody is there or not.Anybody can be there.Whether the panel has been set or not it is not our business but that of the Supreme court. So CUPP should maintain neutrality until it is fully registered as a political party.......
