Iamgrey5: Please stop preaching this civil nonsense and see how the ibo people have insulted your tribe for the past four years just because we voted for APC as against their choice of PDP.
They even took turns to insult the northern Nigeria people until recently when they realized that it might be counter productive.
I am not a tribalist, but I guess there's a certain degree of insult one can take .
Personally, I don't mind voting for an ibo candidate over my own brother if the ibo candidate is miles ahead of my brother.
Nonetheless, I won't vote for PDP because their style of government is not miles ahead of the APC style of government.
In addition, I think the APC has benefited my people more than the PDP in many aspects. i.e infrastructural facilities abandoned for years under the government of the PDP are now being given due attention.
Need I go on.
PS: I know my tribe's support might not be enough to reelect the president, but I will rather give him my votes based on the aforementioned premise. I have had a lot of reactions to what I posted about the need for south west to join hands together to vote APC.Some ignorant some cynical Some myopic some aberrant and some from furious. and frustrated online political gangsters and hooligans who are educated fools and illiterates who lack mannerism in the way the respond to matters online. I have earlier decided to reserve my comment on the copied write up till after the presidential election. However I deem it fit to make some clarifications. with high sense of constructivism.First the write up is not an attack on any tribe but to awaken the south west to the need to harness their efforts together. Anybody can do so if you think is necessary without apology to anybody..You are entitled to your opinion anytime..Second If south west is working together to ensure their son is VP whose business is that? Hausa's Igbo's and Yourubas can decide on what they want. That is politics. Youruba may want presidency in 2023 Igbo's may not need it.Whose business is that? Since 1999 Yoruba ruled for 8 years of two terms Hausa will have their second term now from 2019 to 2023 .Igbos may not want it .It is their choice .whose business? The essence of the write up is for Yourubas to work together in the interest of the southwest and for the future. Every other region can decide what they want.Nigeria has more than 450 tribes but with different interests. Yorubas should work together for the interest of the region and unity of the country. Finally I advise political gangsters online to respond to write up with maturity not abusing people for it will never make or mar the reelection of PBM on Saturday. |

akinyeleaa: First, it was very stupid of you to have attacked a whole tribe or anyone at all for the choices they choose to make politically. And for anyone to keep reasoning the way you are concerning politics in Nigeria is very dumb concerning the prevailing realities in the country. Lemme first point out that I'm Yoruba and from Ogun State too but I won't support Osinbajo for VP just because he is from my state. I would never reinforce failure even if it was a family member. You would have done better to tell us why they deserve a second term by listing achievements and successes recorded and not deriding a whole tribe. Lemme also make it clear that maybe not all but majority of Igbos would never support Buhari not because of VP or whatever but because they just do not believe in him, trust me, they are justified. For any dumb person to say they are supporting Atiku because of Obi is most stupid. Maybe a few do but majority just don't believe in Buhari. Igbos supported Yaradua against Buhari in 2007 despite Buhari having an Igbo VP. And for bleeps sake, this is democracy, you can't expect us all to support the same candidate. My parents supported Buhari and still do while I supported him but no longer do so just because I feel he has failed and I can't reinforce failure. They made their choice, so did I? Another thing I would like to note is for me, the post of VP is almost useless and I'll tell you why, it is just a figurehead. Perhaps the most functional VP since 1999 is Osinbajo and that's because Buhari wanted it so. Gej was almost useless as VP and so was sambo. OBJ fell out with Atiku and almost made him useless too, so for anyone to support a party just cos of our son is VP is dumb. Besides what did Osinbajo do for Ogun sef. Lastly, all this Igbo Yoruba rivalry is not good for us, the Yorubas seem to be cynical about Igbos and vice versa and it will keep breeding hatred, I'm not ready to dabble into who's more tribalist as we all have our fair share of it from zik to awo and many more . I don't think so.Most of them are on the fence as long as it is still the north that will present the president. However Obj alone is supporting the Atiku come back.... Other ex presidents with military background appear to be on the fence on the matter. whoever wins the election will not have effects on the north .In 2023 any president from the south will be a. person that the north can rely on who will return the power as arranged..This is the dynamics of Nigerian politics. |

NothingDoMe: PMB doesn't have a say. We both know this. The only reason he is currently respected is because he is president. Remove presidency and see where they will throw him into. He is not a serial loser for nothing. He was the best person to use to capitalize on the Anti-Jonathan sentiments.
He doesn't have the power to enforce any personal agreement once he leaves office. That agreement of rotational presidency no longer exists. Take it to the bank. Rotational presidency does not belong to PMB.It is among the kingmakers in Nigeria. It is a bitter truth.PMB will not stop it at all...It is the choice of the kingmakers' to decide where president will come in the south in 2023.Your guess is as good as mine. |

NothingDoMe: I would gladly support Osinbajo. Many other non yorubas would. The problem most Yoruba's and Non-Yorubas have is BUHARI. You can't sell that ticket and that's a fact.
What I and others said is the 2023 Yoruba presidency is not set on stone. There's no agreement written or unwritten. PMB can say whatever he likes but will that agreement hold? PMB sidelined Tinubu and has so far denied the promises made during campaigns.
If he can do this in first tenure what stops him from removing Osinbajo because of that 2023 presidential dream? El-Rufia and other Cabals have tasted power and they want more. El-Rufia has no plans to return to the shadows.
Wake up. . A lot of factors will come to play in 2023..An d as we are having build up for Saturday's election many more will come .1999 has brought a new down into political system of Nigeria. The need for rotational presidency came after Abiola died. The north cane to south west to choose OBJ .He had 8 years.Objasanjo handed power to Yardua .it was meant for 8 years but the death of Yardua made Jonathan become president.Jonathan was given a tenure for the power to return to the north. That made Buhari come in.The North knew ihe would rule for 8years for power to shift in 2023.Nigeria before 1999 is not Nigeria now ElRufai and others know the South west will rule as from 2023.It is non negotiable. I agree that it is the turn of the south East in 2023.But is the south east ready? If Buhari wins on Saturday without the support of the south east will he find it easy to give power o them in 2023? Okorocha and others are fighting for south east relevance in 2023 but is the south east ready? The south west is supporting Osinbajo because apart from being their son by 2023 there will be power shift to the South .Is this not wisdom? Anybody who contests in the north in 2023 is just a political comedian because PMB know it is the turn of the South. |

[quote author=Ecstasy154 post=75836164]By Omeiza Ajayi The ruling All Progressives Congress APC has issued six queries to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC following the postponement of the general elections by the electoral umpire. This was as the party denied allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party PDP that it was pressuring the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC into staggering the general elections. The position of the party was disclosed during a news conference addressed by its Director of Election Planning and Monitoring, Babatunde Raji Fashola and that of Contact and Mobilization, Hadiza Bala-Usman Sunday evening in Abuja Both directorates had met at the Buhari Campaign Council headquarters to fine-tune its strategies in the face of the postponement of the polls by INEC. Addressing the media, Fashola threw several posers at the electoral umpire. “As a result of the common pain shared by us all, we, the Directorate of Election Planning and Monitoring, and Contact and Mobilization on behalf of APC Campaign Council, demand greater openness and transparency in the Commission’s preparations ahead of Saturday 23rdFebruary 2019. “We believe that members of the public should know what steps INEC have taken with CBN to assess, take inventory of materials and brief the public about what their condition is; “The status of INEC’s plans to procure and provide materials for election and in particular let Nigerians know if all materials required are in country and if not what plans the commission has to ensure that they are. “INEC’s plans to re-deploy and distribute materials ahead of Saturday 23rd 2019. “The specific problems INEC encountered in the failed attempt of Saturday 16thFebruary 2019 and measures it has taken to overcome them? “What transport logistics and further materials INEC require in terms of vehicles, boats, trucks, airplanes, helicopters, manpower and funding INEC requires to execute the elections of February 23rd and March 9th. “Confirmation that the configuration of the card readers will be completed in readiness of Saturday 23rd 2019. “In addition to all of these, we believe that INEC should brief Nigerians daily on an ongoing basis until this process is concluded. This is one way to elicit the buy-in of Nigerians that INEC is serious and this will replace disappointment with enthusiasm”, he stated. Fashola added that APC’s “disappointment is doubled due to the fact that unlike some who were apparently privy to this postponement in advance, we found out alongside the public a few hours before the polls opened. “To the stranded youth corpers we empathise with you. To the voters and volunteers who have travelled at great cost to cast their votes, we empathise with you. To party agents and our party faithful we empathise with you. “Our sympathies go to all those people and we urge them not to despair. However, we Nigerians are a determined and resilient people and we will not let the shortcomings of INEC deter us from exercising our franchise”. Tackles PDPOn allegations that the APC was coercing INEC to stagger the elections, Fashola said; “I think that is not a responsible and credible allegation to make. APC does not conduct elections. We go by the rules as set by the electoral umpire”. On his part, Chief Press Secretary to the National Chairman of APC, Simon Egbebulem said the ruling party would wait to punish the PDP at the polls. “That is the height of irresponsibility and desperation on the part of the PDP to make such stupid allegation. The entire world was at the venue where the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole expressed his disappointment very sincerely before the chairman of the INEC over the postponement of the election. President Muhammadu Buhari did the same. But we will not dissipate energy in responding to the PDP allegation because we await them at the polls. We all were in this country when under the PDP government the then President ordered the Chairman of the INEC to postpone the election. But in this case we saw a situation where the INEC decided to postpone election on their own based on the excuses they enumerated. APC can never be like the fraudulent PDP which is the root of the problems which the APC led administration is cleaning up”, he said. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/02/apc-issues-6-queries-to-inec-denies-calling-for-staggered-elections/Atiku would lose marginally, not because voters are overdosed on Buhari love, but because when trust is at stake – man-to-man – Buhari is the lesser of two evils. The ruling All Progressives Congress APC has issued six queries to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC following the postponement of the general elections by the electoral umpire.
This was as the party denied allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party PDP that it was pressuring the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC into staggering the general elections.
The position of the party was disclosed during a news conference addressed by its Director of Election Planning and Monitoring, Babatunde Raji Fashola and that of Contact and Mobilization, Hadiza Bala-Usman Sunday evening in Abuja
Both directorates had met at the Buhari Campaign Council headquarters to fine-tune its strategies in the face of the postponement of the polls by INEC.
“We believe that members of the public should know what steps INEC have taken with CBN to assess, take inventory of materials and brief the public about what their condition is;
“The status of INEC’s plans to procure and provide materials for election and in particular let Nigerians know if all materials required are in country and if not what plans the commission has to ensure that they are.
Tackles PDP
On allegations that the APC was coercing INEC to stagger the elections, Fashola said; “I think that is not a responsible and credible allegation to make.
APC can never be like the fraudulent PDP which is the root of the problems which the APC led administration is cleaning up”, he said.
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/02/apc-issues-6-queries-to-inec-denies-calling-for-staggered-elections/ Atiku would lose marginally, not because voters are overdosed on Buhari love, but because when trust is at stake – man-to-man – Buhari is the lesser of two evils. This is the inconvenient truth. |

The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has scheduled an emergency caucus meeting.
This is following yesterday’s postponement of the general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The meeting is to be held on Monday, according to Vanguard.
The meeting is slated for 11am and would hold at the national secretariat of the party as against its usual venue, the Presidential Villa.
The newspaper reports that the party caucus is exploring the window provided by the postponement of the polls to review the party’s strategies for winning the elections.

akinblog: Polls Postponement: The PDP after due consideration of the provision of the Electoral Act, is set to reopen its open campaigns consequent upon the postponement of Presidential and Senate elections by INEC from the earlier scheduled date of Feb. 23, 2019.
The PDP rejects the wrongful administrative prohibition of open campaigns by INEC, holding that such administrative pronouncement was erroneous, directly in conflict with the provision of the Electoral Act and is not backed by any other law in our country.
Our position is predicated on the clear provision of section 99 (1) of the Electoral Act which stipulated that “for the purposes of this Act, the period of campaigning in public by every political party shall commence 90 days before polling day and end 24 hours prior to that day”
The clear import of this provision, in the current situation, is that given the postponement of the election to February 23, 2019, the 24 hours requirement for closure of all public campaigning falls at midnight of February 21, 2019.
The PDP reminds INEC that whenever its administrative pronouncement conflicts with the Electoral Act, such administrative pronouncement must bow before the law. The party charges INEC to be appropriately guided while directing its members to await further directives.

Politics › Re: Tinubu Breaks Silence On Postponement Of Election, Tells Nigerians What To Do by ejimatic: 11:58pm On Feb 16, 2019 |
sarrki: The All Progressives Congress National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has expressed disappointment over the postponement of the presidential and national assembly elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Tinubu, in a statement he personally signed on Saturday, said though, he acknowledged the enormity of the logistical challenge that elections poses to INEC, he was still pained that the Commission could not meet this challenge within the time allotted.
He, however, urged Nigerians who intended to vote to maintain their commitment and not be discouraged by the latest development.
He said, “Do not allow this delay to deter you from the expression of your democratic rights. What you had set your mind to do on February 16, keep your mind and heart on for February 23.
“We are also perplexed that INEC literally waited so late in the day to make known the obstacles preventing it from keeping faith to the election schedule. INEC could have and should have given the nation more ample and earlier warning. This could have perhaps lessened the pervasive disappointment that we all now feel. It also would have helped people better order their steps”.
“As the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress and simply as a Nigerian, I must express my profound concern and dissatisfaction with the unexpected, late hour postponement of the presidential and national assembly elections by INEC. According to INEC, the one-week postponement of the election from February 16 to February 23 was compelled by logistical difficulties encountered by the commission in transporting essential election material to polling in various parts of the country.
“While we appreciate the enormity of the logistical challenge that elections in a vast nation like ours poses to INEC, we are still pained that the Commission could not meet this challenge within the time allotted. We are also perplexed that INEC literally waited so late in the day to make known the obstacles preventing it from keeping faith to the election schedule. INEC could have and should have given the nation more ample and earlier warning. This could have perhaps lessened the pervasive disappointment that we all now feel. It also would have helped people better order their steps today.
“We have reports of eager voters rising early to leave their homes to cast their ballots only to be told upon arriving at their appointed polling stations that the election had been postponed. This should not have happened for it could well discourage people from coming out when the election takes place. Thus, we heartily commend those people for coming out in exercise of their fundamental rights and duties as citizen voters, who vote by vote, seek to build and perfect our democracy. For each voter is in part an architect and each one of your votes is a brick by which, when lain together, shall construct a strong democracy in such a way that it shall forever stand and endure. Thus, we appeal to all who actually came out to vote and to those who intended to vote today, to maintain your commitment. Do not allow this delay to deter you from the expression of your democratic rights. What you had set your mind to do on February 16, keep your mind and heart on for February 23.
“INEC has stated the reason for the delay and has expressed regret over the inconveniences it has caused. We must take INEC’s statement at face value and hold to the belief that INEC understands even more than ever the sober and grave responsibility it has to our nation and our democracy. INEC can only properly discharge that responsibility by conducting free and fair elections. While we cannot go back to repair what did or did not happen to cause this postponement, we all must encourage INEC to do all that is necessary so voting can smoothly proceed on February 23. Whatever our political affiliation, we must encourage INEC to overcome the difficulties in order to rise to this most important occasion. INEC must commit itself more than ever before to perform to its utmost so that these elections will be remembered as a free and fair exercise consonant with the best of international standards.
“In the end, elections must be held in such a manner that every vote carries the same weight and no vote is minimized because elections took place much earlier or later in one place than in another. Thus, it is better to experience a slight delay to conduct the elections properly rather than to conduct the elections piecemeal and uneven fashion. No one will absolve INEC if such a fate befalls this all-important election. The electoral body must use the one-week extension mend its logistics gaps and lapses. This delay has clearly provoked significant anger and disappointment among the people. The voters were ready and INEC should have been equally as prepared and ready as the voters. Yet, we ask that the people contain their anger and remain calm. Let no one be tempted to breach the peace because of this delay.
“In the greater scheme of things, a one-week delay is not overly burdensome when compared to the importance of conduct of free and just elections in the establishment of representative democracy and good governance in our land. Please, persevere just a bit longer to ensure that the elections on February 23 truly reflect the will of the people. Whatever obstacles may come, be they large or small, let us show the world the Nigerian people will not be deterred from realizing the democracy for which we have fought and sacrificed so long and so hard to achieve.”

Victory4322: President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed that nobody will unseat him.
He said contrary to opinions in some quarters, he had the strength to lead the country for four more years.
Buhari stated this in an interview aired on Friday on the verified Instagram page of CNN Africa while responding to doubts about his ability to run the country for a second term.
The interviewer had asked the President, “This is a vibrant democracy. You came in, unseating the incumbent. Are you worried the same could happen to you?”
To this, Buhari responded, “No. Nobody would unseat me.”
He added, “I am ready to take this country forward for the next four years.”
When asked his plans for containing the terror in the North-East, the President insisted that Boko Haram was no longer “technically” having a grip on any local government area in the region.
He said, “We have 774 local governments in this country. They (Boko Haram) used to hold 17. They are not technically holding any local government now.
“But they are indoctrinating young men and women, especially girls, wrap them up with explosives and let them explode them in soft targets like churches, mosques, marketplaces, motor parks and other places.”
Buhari added, “Of course, we are doing our best (to contain the terror) and we thank some foreign countries in Europe and the United States for training our armed forces and going to the battlefront to see how they have performed.”

Politics › Re: Presidential Election: Nigerians In UK Back Atiku by ejimatic: 1:27pm On Feb 15, 2019 |
Beress: Iyobosa Uwugiaren in Abuja
Nigerians in the United Kingdom said yesterday that they are solidly behind the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, because he represents a new generation of leadership necessary to take the country out of poverty and backwardness.
The Coordinator of Atiku Campaign Organisation in the UK, Dr. Tony Chidi, in a statement yesterday said its members were already in Nigeria to mobilise their unflinching support for Atiku, saying there was no reason to compare Atiku to President Muhammadu Buhari, who he said had failed in the last four years to make any meaningful impact on any aspect of the nation’s economy.
The group rated the former vice president high on many key areas of leadership and asked Nigerians to give massive support to him on Saturday.
“Atiku has demonstrated great capacity, capability and ability in both public and private life far above all who are contesting to be president of Nigeria in 2019. Having been there for eight fruitful years, he understands the system better than the incumbent who has demonstrated gross incompetency and all others who currently aspire to the presidency.
‘’As vice president the economy and other substructures were under his watch and they all performed excellently. Nigerians can attest to the fact that Turaki is highly detribalised and would as it was, offer equal opportunities to Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, religion, culture or political leanings unlike Buhari who is so clannish and myopic. Above all, Atiku is a quintessential democrat whose belief in the Rule of Law and resilience in 2nd last tenure as vice president stabilised our democracy’’, the UK group stated.
The group added that whereas Atiku can be said to possess the essential qualities that can promote peace, mutual understanding and coexistence, harmony and progress of the nation the same cannot be said of Buhari “who has almost succeeded in tearing Nigeria apart from his unguarded utterances and actions that betray his morbid contempt or outright hatred for ethnic groups and religions.”
The group added, “The PDP presidential candidate is a core civilian whereas and possesses sound education and wide exposure in different spheres of life while his rival, Buhari is a core combatant soldier who has not been able to adapt himself to civilian lifestyle nearly four decades after retiring from the army with only school certificate as his highest certificate.
“We also note with satisfaction that Atiku is vibrant and creative while it is evident that Buhari leads a dull, boring life deficient in personal initiatives and development. A successful technocrat and entrepreneur, Turaki’s track records in public service and business stands him out as one whose abilities in bringing back Nigeria’s glory are not doubtful, having succeeded in creating wealth and employment.
“Overall, we wish to draw attention to the fact that Nigeria is a very complex nation and anyone who intends to succeed in the apex position of leadership such as the presidency of the country must blend into these complexities, build cohesion among the component nationalities, religious socio-political leanings and be seen to not clearly pandering to ethnic and religious whims and sentiments.’’
The group urged Nigerians to back Atiku because as a liberal democrat, he is also poised to decentralize the economy and encourage devolution of power which would hinge on restructuring and fiscal federalism.

Jegede reiterates that the stakes in Nigeria electioneering process are high both locally and internationally, evidenced by powerful voices clamouring for free, fair, transparent and credible electioneering exercise in Nigeria. The firm’s spokesperson stated that the presidential election results projection is based on various variables that could determine how the electorates tend to cast their votes. “Our research survey identified among other factors: historical voting pattern, performance of incumbent president, existence of political structure spread, personality of each candidate, availability of sufficient campaign funding, followership’s loyalty, internal party stability and coordination, as well as power of incumbency as part of variables that determine the how Nigeria electorates may cast their ballots. Other considerations are party’s strategy disposition, voting capacity by each state measured by PVC collection rate, and general support base”, he stated. According to Jegede, the poll survey projects that the total number of votes to be cast on February 16, 2019 presidential election tends to hover around 33.65 million, of which the APC presidential candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari, expected to secure around 19.2 million votes representing 58.2% of total ballot cast, while main opposition PDP candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar projected to get up to 13.9 million votes representing 41.3% and the rest would secure just little above half a million votes, accounting for 5% of the likely total vote cast across the country.
