Islam › Re: No Matter The Politics: Christrians And Muslims Will Never Live In Unity by ektbear: 11:34pm On Apr 24, 2011
There is tons of genocide and intolerance in the Old Testament too:
2. This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt.
3. Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy[a] all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’”
But Christians today don't follow many of those intolerant practices.

Anyway, key point is that everyone has dirty linen in their closet. Let's not condemn the religion because of some offensive snippets in their holy book. Muslims should ignore these snippets and learn to live peacefully with others.

And truth be told, there are plenty of examples of tolerant Muslims. It is only in Northern Nigeria and a few other places where they are so intolerant.

All I gotta say is that these kids would be way better off even learning a trade at age 10. Learn how to be a mechanic, cook, plumber, etc.

Almajiri school is absolutely, positively useless and a waste of time

You can probably make good money even as a mechanic in nigeria, if you are good at it. I know you can do that here in the US at least.

This is quite easy. Since they won't be able to achieve their objective through violence, they should join southerners in calling for a plebiscite. This way, the part of Nigeria that wants to become an Islamic republic can do so without any unnecessary war.
+1. But they want the entire country Islamisized, probably. Having Sharia in their own states I guess is not enough for them.

On a related note, if naija splits, we'll have a bit of a problem on our hands. All those Christian groups in Northern Nigeria will have to be evacuated wholesale, no? I don't like the odds of them surviving in what will probably become a fundamentalist Islamic state.

Maybe some sort of population swapping will be necessary.
Politics › Re: Do You Think The CIA Is Monitoring Nairaland? by ektbear: 9:15pm On Apr 24, 2011
I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't have at least one guy reading periodically. I mean, why would they not browse it occasionally? It doesn't cost much money and sometimes gives useful information.

For the same reason, I would guess that others interested in Nigeria also browse (including naija security forces.)

You goat, there are Yoruba indigence of funtua katsina state i take it you'll be taking katsina too? Or is it all because of Abuja? Anyways only the Niger people have the right to decide and i believe they already have. when your people called us parasites and gadafi suggested the breakup niger governor was the first to respond, go look it up
If faced between staying with Hausa or staying with non-Hausa, Niger State sef will vote to stay with the South. At least, if they are thinking rationally. They certainly have no reason to prefer Hausa or Fulani to Yoruba.

@Nadanbata: Hehe. Truth be told. . . I honestly don't care. I'm not obsessed with the presidency.

2019 Northerner after GEJ is fine by me. We don't need to capture the FG to survive in this country. All we really need is foreign investment grin

I'm more excited by this Olokola FTZ, Lekki Toll Road and Eko Atlantic than I am by capturing the presidency.
Politics › Re: Ss/se Vote: 96 Percent Of Black Voters Supported Obama In 2008 by ektbear: 9:08am On Apr 24, 2011
They have no choice. Trust or distrust is irrelevant.

Their only path to power is an alliance with the SW.

No alliance with the SW, GEJ wins again. Fine by me. Good governance in most of the SW is all I need.

Truth be told, I'm not sure why I'm even arguing with you. I think you have in mind that you've entered an equal alliance with GEJ. On Tuesday, we'll see whether it is in fact an alliance or a master/slave relationship.

We at least (if I'm reading this ACN situation correctly, that is) are his allies. . . at least for now.

Politics › Re: Ss/se Vote: 96 Percent Of Black Voters Supported Obama In 2008 by ektbear: 8:48am On Apr 24, 2011
Heh. So you really think that if the ACN had entered an alliance with the CPC and somehow the PDP had inflated turnout to win, that anyone would accept it?

That even the mumu internationals would? So that you can rig elections despite two of the three largest ethnic groups in Nigeria being against you. . . probably in truth 50+% of the population of this country (if you toss groups like Kanuri, Nupe, into the pot)? grin

If GEJ does that, then he will go out Laurent Gbagbo style.

Even just add up the votes that Ribadu and Buhari won (14.5 million or so.) Subtract off about 5 million or so fake votes in the SS and SE zone (leaving him with 17,18 million or so). And this is with abysmally low turnout in the SW. . . and you maximally rigging in the SS and SE.

Regarding NW and NE. . . they will have no choice, if they want to leave the opposition. In fact, in four years time, we should force them to accept the VP spot. And if they complain, we take another deal with the PDP.

Like I said, we can play this game however you want it. Either option is fine by me.
Politics › Re: UN To Investigate Buhari For Possible Crimes Against Humanity by ektbear: 8:39am On Apr 24, 2011
^-- I am no fan of Buhari. I just don't think there is enough evidence to tie him to the deaths there.

In the worst likely case, he might be very indirectly, distantly connected to 'em. But even if that is the case, doubtful he made some late night phone calls asking random mallams to round up their area boys. . . no "smoking gun" will be found.

And from what I've seen from the other IJC cases, they won't have a case against him. Some random lackey in Bauchi somewhere, yes. But not him.

Anyway, whatever. Let the IJC investigate him. If he comes out clean, he comes out clean. If not, that is fine. . . let him be punished.

Somehow I doubt that the latter will happen, though.

Politics › Re: Almajiris - Nigeria's Ticking Time Bomb by ektbear: 8:32am On Apr 24, 2011
There is nothing wrong with the religion of Islam. For those of you using very poor, illiterate Hausa Muslims to condemn the whole religion, how would you feel if Turkish, Saudi, or Persian Muslims use you to mock Christianity? Not to talk of all those North African countries which are way better off than naija.

Some particular interpretations of it aren't compatible with modern life. But that doesn't mean all interpretations sucks, or the religion as a whole is evil. Malaysia and Indonesia (in addition to the countries mentioned earlier) are doing a helluva lot better than we are.

Anyway, religion should not be the focus. Quality, modern education and best practices should be the focus.

And FWIW, I'm a Christian myself.

Politics › Re: Ss/se Vote: 96 Percent Of Black Voters Supported Obama In 2008 by ektbear: 8:24am On Apr 24, 2011
Absolutely fine by me. If you want to freeze us out, another alliance can be made. One that contains most of the voting strength of the country.

Any way you want to play this game, we can do it. Just don't expect your fake turnout to be accepted in four years, and don't expect ours to be so low.
Politics › Re: Curfew In North Affects Prices In South by ektbear: 7:30am On Apr 24, 2011
^-- Sounds fine by me. We are taking Niger State (and the Nupe therein) into Yoruba Republic BTW, just so you know. I know they voted for Buharistan, but if naija scatters they are coming with us  wink
