Relax your head tpiah!, he is just trolling grin

No point discussing with him, just point to legitimate papers that document the history, like the one I did.

You cannot waste your time exchanging words with trolls

Too bad!! My own Egba have never been conquered by Benin and remained one the very Yoruba people to ever defeat the Oyo Army and Dahomey Amazons. We are the first to have Independence in the whole of Nigeria complete with our own Anthem ( Lori oke at Petele) as far back 1893

That is pretty cool. Is the anthem on Youtube? If not, one of ya'll should put it on there.

Even my own Ekiti supposedly paid tribute to the Benin up until late in the 19th century, from what I heard. Yet I don't think anyone would say Ekitiland is a Benin state, or something
Politics › Re: Eko Ile, Lagos Is A Benin Town Not Yoruba by ektbear: 6:36pm On Apr 25, 2011
It depends on what you mean. It was conquered militarily by the Benin Empire, and paid tribute up until the 1850s or so. Other groups in the area did too (Ijebu being just one of them.)

But the original inhabitants were Yoruba (Awori).

A bit of history: http://www.jstor.org/pss/181898
The abstract:
Abstract
The rise of Lagos, which became the principal port of the 'Slave Coast' at the end of the eighteenth century, can only be understood by reference to the interaction between the European Atlantic trade and the indigenous canoe-borne trade along the coastal lagoons. European traders in the sixteenth century used the Lagos channel and the lagoon to approach the Ijebu kingdom, where slaves and cloth were purchased, but this trade lapsed in the seventeenth century. The Lagos settlement originated as a fishing hamlet, but was occupied as a military base by Benin around the end of the sixteenth century. Benin expansion to the west may have been designed to prevent European trade with Ijebu, in the interests of a Benin monopoly. Lagos remained formally subject to Benin until the nineteenth century, but the decline of Benin power in the eighteenth century left it effectively independent. European sources of the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries attest trade in cloth and slaves passing along the lagoons through Lagos to Allada and Whydah in the west. Although this pattern of trade has been assumed to date back to pre-European times, it was more probably a consequence of the European presence, and more specifically of the westward drift of European interest along the coast from Benin after the sixteenth century. European traders began to show an active interest in the lagoon trade to the east of Allada in the early eighteenth century, and again began to explore the possibility of using the Lagos channel to approach the inland lagoons. Lagos developed as an Atlantic port from the 1760s, exporting slaves and Ijebu cloth, but its importance was limited by its remoteness from any major source of slaves. Its emergence as a major port in the late eighteenth century was due to the disruption of slave shipments from ports further west by military pressure from Dahomey, which led to the diversion of slave supplies eastward along the lagoons for shipment from Lagos.

LOL! Then  he is delusional. Hausa Muslims won't even pray in the same mosque with their Yoruba counterparts.  grin
Is that true? If so, why?

So mosques, are there separate mosques for Yoruba, Hausa, Nupe, Fulani, etc? How does it work?

Nigerian churchs I've been too have been a mix of all types of groups before. Though few northerners.

I think it is. With that $3 billion, Fashola must take care of the needs of 20 million+ people.

With the $40 billion the FG gets, how much of it is actually spent on anything useful?

Military defense, police, universities, some other things. But the rest is spent on excessive administration, white elephant projects, or siphoned off.
I really hate to do all these VP, President sharing talk, I'll rather we reduce the power at the center and strengthen the Regions, states and LGA.

BUT

I have to say; I see no reason why Fashola should be VP to anybody under this current political arrangement, at least not Sanusi, Who be Sanusi? what has he administered? Fashola is a better politician and administrator with more experience at political bridge building than Sanusi.
Pretty much. That is my sentiment. Running Lagos on a $3 billion budget is arguably the most demanding elected office in Nigeria. Even more so than being president.

I don't see why who gets top billing in any alliance should be off the table, when it comes time to negotiate.

Core North needs to learn from the mistakes it made this past cycle and be more willing to give and take.
Politics › Re: How Corps Members Were Forced To Rig Polls In Akwa Ibom by ektbear: 5:12pm On Apr 25, 2011
In theory, it should be simple. As soon as a polling center is finished and counted, the results are uploaded online. Everyone should be able to see this happen. Before the people leave the booth, they should be able to go online (e.g., on their cell phone) and see that the results that were counted in front of them are the same as the one showing up online.

That would solve 90% of the problems, I think. It is the different collation steps (ward, LGA and state, I guess) where fraud and wuruwuru happened.

There are 120,000 different polling centers. What is so hard about updating each once the votes are finished?
Politics › Re: Ribadu Set To Dump Acn For Cpc . by ektbear: 5:08pm On Apr 25, 2011
Why exactly is anyone expecting a SW/North alliance in 4 years with the SW taking VP?

If GEJ is performing well, what incentive do we have to accept only VP?

You'll have to deliver a lot more than that.

@Isoke: You are right. You can be a fat balding man in his 40s with two kids from a previous marriage and still snag a beautiful 20 year old.

Otoh, the chance of a woman in her 40s doing the same is pretty slim  undecided

Life ain't fair, at all.

The CPC brand may be irrevocably tarnished in the south. Not clear to me that joining it is his best bet. We shall see, though.

Regarding accept/reject election results. . . perhaps he is still gathering information. He is under no pressure to immediately respond.

Politics › Re: How Corps Members Were Forced To Rig Polls In Akwa Ibom by ektbear: 4:18pm On Apr 25, 2011
Where are those who now claim that the SS/SE elections were not rigged?

60 votes->300. A factor of 5 times turnout inflation.

Now who wants to be bragging again about the high voter turnout in the SS and SE zones?

The afren link makes it clear that those figures are thought to be the volumes in place in the Anambra basin. Anambra basin transcends Anambra state.
I see, so the gas figure is the amount for  the Anambra basin, I guess. But the 80 million barrels of oil is in OPL 917 (unless I'm misreading.)

Thanks for the correction.

Here is a picture of the Anambra basin btw, for others (like me) who weren't aware of the difference: http://www.summitoilinternational.com/images/map1.gif

^-- Just a very fraudulent and silly guy. He is the type of 419 Nigerian who gives the country a bad name. Even his crop production degree, there are question marks.

Here he claims he finished his first degree before 1999: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-367972.32.html#msg5156448
Then here he is quoted claiming he finished it in 2003: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=441857.msg6017259#msg6017259

I hope he didn't lie about the crop production degree to get the degrees in Europe. If those schools find out, they may revoke his degrees. Or otherwise sanction him.

See how he was caught in his own web of lies? Honesty truly is the easiest thing in life. Less stress and wahala.

5 triillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas, 80 million barrels of oil: http://www.afren.com/operations/nigeria/opl_917/

That is pretty solid. Nigeria's gas reserves are 187 tcf proven, and supposedly up to 600 tcf (http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/National/5418530-147/story.csp).

Good stuff.

Politics › Re: Ondo Has The Most Potent Cannabis, Says Drugs Officer by ektbear: 4:22am On Apr 25, 2011
@koruji, I think you misread the article.

This seems to be the key quote:
Young people with a parent or sibling affected by psychosis have a roughly one in 10 chance of developing the condition themselves—even if they never smoke pot. Regular marijuana use, however, doubles their risk—to a one in five chance of becoming psychotic.

In comparison, youths in families unaffected by psychosis have a 7 in 1,000 chance of developing it. If they smoke pot regularly, the risk doubles, to 14 in 1,000.
7/1000 -> 14/1000, who cares. Most people will take those odds.
But the 1/10 to 1/5, wahala dey. So I guess if you have a family history of this particular mental illness, then don't smoke (or at least think more carefully about the risks.)

I should read the two papers more carefully to be sure, but this is my take on what they are saying.
