Really, Fashola should be rooting for a Buhari victory now. GEJ winning now and the PDP remaining strong blocks southerners from picking up again after GEJs term. . . unfortunately ![]() |
Not sure what Fashola's move in 2015 will be, but he doesn't really need to join the PDP to accomplish his goals (assuming he wants to be president in 2015.) PDP with their zoning isn't the path to that anyway. And anything less than that (Senator, hell, governor of another state in the SW ) he can achieve regardless of his party. Will be interesting to see what moves he makes. |
For those claiming Igbos voted for PDP across the SE, reading through some posts on this forum and stuff online, it doesn't look like they really did. A lot of these PDP victories seem suspicious ![]() |
Main thing to avoid is being used and abused like the SW was by Obasanjo. You cannot let the PDP/GEJ ride your back to victory and then discard you afterwards. Hopefully your leadership has a plan in place to avoid this scenario. Like OAM4J, I don't see an Igbo presidency immediately after GEJ. |
I don't think your current strategy is a bad one. Join the PDP fully, make it yours. If GEJ wins, it might pay off. |
A small bit of positive news, at least. Though it won't be too hard for the PDP to buy the votes of some of the members of the margin parties on a case-by-case basis. |
http://www.saharareporters.com/news-page/kwara-erupts-protest-acn-rejects-nass-poll-results PDP and APGA election riggers would do well to heed the words of MLK: "Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice." |
April 11, 2011 - 17:29 caption: ACN protesters in Kwara By Citizen Reports Kwara on Monday erupted in spontaneous protest as thousands of ACN supporters stormed the streets of Ilorin to voice their rejection of the results of the Saturday’s National Assembly which was declared in favour of the ruling PDP. They alleged that the PDP had colluded with some INEC presiding officers to sex up the outcome of the ballot, especially when the ACN candidates were leading their counterparts well into the night until the PDP came from behind to emerge victorious. The party is due to address a press briefing on Tuesday on the outcome of the election, especially the violent intimidation of the voters in Asa, Ifelodun and other areas where ACN agents were arrested and kept out of circulation until the end of the election. ACN Governorship Candidate, Mohammed Dele Belgore (SAN), led the mass protest, flanked by the Kwara ACN Caretaker Committee Chairman, Kayode Olawepo; Senatorial Candidate (Kwara Central), Ibrahim Oloriegbe; Senatorial Candidate (South), Anu Ibiwoye; Senatorial Candidate (North), Musa Audu; and other party top shots. What later turned out to be a huge protest, which caused hour-long traffic jam along the Gari Alimi Road, began at the party secretariat on Asa Dam Road, where all the ward chairmen and agents had converged to deliberate on the outcome of the election which some observers and international media initially called in favour of ACN candidates in Central and South. “We thank the good people of Kwara for coming out en masse last Saturday. We know they voted for us massively, but their mandate was stolen. Please don’t despair because we will restore this mandate through the legal means. But let it be clear to these riggers that it can no longer be business as usual. We will no longer allow anybody to impose himself or herself on our people. The people of Kwara want a change and this was what they demonstrated last Saturday when they trooped out in thousands to vote for the ACN. But this mandate was stolen. We will help our candidates to reclaim their stolen mandate, no matter what. We urge our people to be calm and not to resort to violence,” Belgore told the protesters. “This rally is to send a strong message to these election riggers and their collaborators to desist henceforth. We won the election with a landslide but they manipulated the outcome in continuation of the status quo. This will not stand. We will challenge it in court. But let it be clear that we will not watch while they steal the mandate of the people.” |
kcjazz:I understand your point. Hedging their bets. But it seems like a pretty selfish move, given that they are dependent on the SW for a Buhari victory. They want the gain, with none of the risks. . . |
^-- Buhari is just terrible at running parties. Remember, he lost control of the ANPP too. He should have humbled himself and joined the ACN, let them turn those elections in the NW and NE into victories. Arrogant, useless old man ![]() |
What is the status of labour party in iboland ?
How dare you ask that question? Next you'll question me calling CPC an Igbo party. Did it not initially have an Igbo chairman? ![]() |
If that is their original agreement, then let Buhari step down for Ribadu and the ACN, publicly support him and campaign for him in the NW, NC and NE. |
Opposition Parties Meet on Way Forward 11 Apr 2011 Chief Bisi Akande, ACN National Chairman By Imam Imam The leadership of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) Sunday held exploratory talks in Lagos ahead of the all-important presidential election on Saturday, THISDAY can report. The two parties had entered into an agreement to see how they could work together in order to wrest power from the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has been in government since 1999. The original plan was for the party that wins more National Assembly seats to produce a joint presidential candidate in an alliance, while the party that comes second would produce the leadership of the National Assembly. Under the arrangement, ACN is in a position to field Malam Nuhu Ribadu as the candidate of the alliance since it has won more seats than CPC which was initially thought to be very strong in the North. It is yet unclear how the agreement will now work out with the turn of events. As at Sunday night, ACN had won 13 senatorial seats of while CPC could only boast six in the official results declared so far. Insiders are of the opinion that an alliance had become inevitable no matter the obstacles because there was no way PDP would not steamroll the other parties in the election without an united opposition. THISDAY learnt that the talks will continue Monday. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/opposition-parties-meet-on-way-forward/89432/ |
Some people are very funny. Labour Party is Igbo owned. As is the PDP, CPC, and ACN ![]() People sure enjoy fooling themselves. I dey laugh |
Useless CPC. Failures |
^-- Good point. ACN had better perform otherwise they'll be tossed out. |
^-- A 6 region variant of the initial British plan would be pretty damn good. A lot more stable than the mercurial tripod of old. You are right, we'd have the same effect with several regional parties. |
No fear. . . Madam Nafdac will hopefully soon be rotting in a jail cell for rigging. |
Good points. But I'm only interested in expanding enough to block sabotage. That is pretty much it. If you deny the PDP a majority in say both the legislative branches, I think that would be a pretty good thing. Alas, not everyone else in the opposition seems to have realized the value in doing this ![]() |
I understand your POV. But if you are not careful, external forces can sabotage your progress. We are not (yet) in a nation of our own, so thus must monitor the situation elsewhere in the country. Think of OBJ and the damage he did to Lagos. Or this same Benin-Ore road that hasn't been fixed. . . hell, most of the federal roads in a bad state. Federal gov't preventing Lagos from supplying its own electricity. . . preventing the LCDAs. A jealous and incompetent FG can stifle progress. |
Another ACN Senate seat most likely. Least, this is the most likely outcome. |
@Topman40: Can you evaluate Mimiko's performance so far? I've heard good things, but not specifics. |
Kinda?! She's hot, no homo ![]() I hope her seat is a blessing to Nigeria and the SW people.
Well said on both counts. Question tho. . . how did Tinubu manage to get with her ![]() |
@danjohn: I hope you are right. @dayokanu: While that is good, it might not be enough. |
Grace Folashade Bent, PDP Adamawa South? What of her? P.S.: Remi is kind of a cutie |
http://saharareporters.com/news-page/ngige-vs-akunyili-anaocha-vote-tally-points-fraud Ngige will win. No Agulu Predators Gaming Anambra will prevail against him ![]() |
SR's take: Ngige Vs Akunyili: Anaocha Vote Tally Points To Fraud |
Alright, thinking about it further, it wasn't fair of me to bash 'em. They are certainly entitled to vote for whoever they want. But if truly they are seeking change, then it should be clear that giving the PDP a majority in the house and senate is undesirable. |
real4life:Alright, I won't type it here. . . not quite PC enough. I'll only keep the thought in my head. |
So people can't want Buhari for president and a a diff party for senate, HOR etc? So you support people voting for party rather than competent individual? Nigerians are simply wising up. . . . what? Like KoboJ said, you might see something else in the presidential election. You are simply counting your eggs before they hatch.
So you'll vote for the same PDP politicians in the North that you claim to so badly dislike? If you want to bring about true change in Nigeria, there must be decentralized power. You cannot reward the same PDP you claim to dislike so much (I'm talking to Northern voters here). Otherwise, nothing will change.Anyway, I hope these moronic northern voters enjoy the next 4 years wellu wellu. I have some measure of confidence my ACN boys will do a good job. PDP governors will r.a.pe the northerners as usual. People truly deserve the politicians they vote for ![]() |
