Bukola Saraki announced himself winner on Twitter but deleted the post when votes were collated. ACN won!!!
Good news if true. If ACN can win the governorship too, then the Southwest will finally be made whole.

triumphalism is very bad, my brother  lipsrsealed

Chill out. No need to alienate people unnecessarily

ACN is a party for all nigerians, hausa, igbo, fulani, kanuri, tiv, ijaw, ibibio, annang, lebanese, yoruba, etc.

I don't see how you could regarded as an honest man.
Anyway, it isn't a big deal. No doubt Ebonyi'll improve over time. Statistics like this should be an impetus to improve, not to wallow in denial.

Such an inspiring symbol, is it not?

Symbol of progress in Nigeria.

@tpiah: Also, how can you be bashing us? We don't have an embarassment of a state like Ebonyi in our midst, that looks more like a Northern state  grin grin grin

At least give us credit for that. . .
Politics › Re: Between Igbo, Yoruba And Other Nigerian Women. What Is It With Igbo Women? by ektbear: 1:40am On Apr 10, 2011
@tpiah!: It varies from family to family. My sisters for example have gone to pretty excellent schools and in fact are being given more resources than I. 16 year old will match or exceed my accomplishments. The youngest one will significantly outperform me. . . equal or superior raw intelligence, better work ethic, more money available to her, and better guidance than I had.

Anyway, the biggest sign of a progressive and good society is really how they educate and uplift their women. Yorubaland can certainly improve in this. But judging from the statistics I posted earlier . . . it isn't as if we are doing terribly relative to our peers.

so GEJ should not get credit for it
I don't agree with this. He promised free elections (thus making it his responsibility), and appears to be delivering on it. Whether you like him or not, I think you have to give him credit. He would certainly get the blame if they turned out badly, so has to get the credit if they turn out well. Fair is fair.

Sky Blue is a bit of a m.oron if he is referencing some "pending" US charges.

Which charges? The case settled already in the 90s is still pending? In 2011?

A man who comes and goes as he pleases to the US still has charges pending? Please, keep silent rather than confirming your ignorance.

One of the few times I'll agree with Beaf. Kudos to GEJ, JEGA, etc for fair elections. . . whether they did this on purpose or by accident, by their will or against their will.

A little too fawning of Dan Fodio. But overall, it seems that he isn't the villain some in this thread have portrayed him to be. Seems to be far better than the guys he replaced.

n all the Emirates, the masses were subjected to unsavory condi
tions, and the slaves were perhaps the most affected. They were
used as currency and as carriers. When, for instance, an Hausa
' elite ' was about to travel to a distant place, he usually took with
him a number of slaves to last the whole period. After traveling
about a hundred miles he sold one slave, and with the income conti
nued the journey. He so carefully planned it that by the time he
returned home all the marketable slaves would have been sold 3.
Every menial labour, beside hunting, fishing, and farming, was ass
igned to the slaves. The story of their suffering is a saga of man's
inhumanity to man. Add this human burden to the maladminist
ration,
particularly in the state of Gobir, the immorality of the aris
tocratic
class, and one cannot but agree that the welfare of the
members of the state — a concept fundamental to Islam — was
neglected by the rulers of the Hausa states.
The more things change, the more they stay the same  lipsrsealed Still reading the PDF posted by Physics, but so far it is pretty good.

If we say it ourselves, they say we are boasting. Now its coming from strange quarters. For those who do not know, the only country you may find more Yorubas studying than Igbos is in the UK. Go to continental Europe and get your mind blown out by the number of Igbos in grad schools. I was one and I know. Here in the US, the story is the same, as it is back in Nigeria.
I don't know about the UK, Europe, and Naija. But I doubt that is true here in the US. Provide evidence to support your position.

You shall live long and prosper, PhysicsMHD.

I understand some of ya'll hate Hausa and Fulani (I don't like their political leaders much either!), but distorting history and facts is silly and just not honest.

^-- Interesting. Willinks report here: http://www.adakaboro.org/thewillinkcomm

I'll read it later when I have time.

Do you agree with that map posted earlier of Hausaland by the BBC? Is it largely accurate? States like Adamawa. . . the elected leaders are always Fulani, but I don't think demographically the Fulani there are anywhere near a majority.

Anyway, interesting.

RichyBlacK:
Misleading, because Hitler did not "wipe out" any ethnic/racial/tribal group.
When I say "wipe out" in this context, I don't mean kill 100%. Even a targetted killing of 15, 20% of a specific group, I'd use "wipe out" for.

Anyway, yes, Hitler didn't complete the job. But most would agree that he decimated (decimated is another term that like, "wipe out", is also somewhat vague and imprecise in this context) European Jewry, Gypsies, Poles, and various other groups.

Jarus:
Eku bear, you fall my hand o.
So you endorse tribal politics? I'm not a politician, but if I'll go into politics, I'll never play the regional card. Vote for me because I'm capable not because I'm a northerner or southerner, Hausa or Yoruba.

Meanwhile, you're very right that Offa people go where SW, and not North, goes, right from First Republic. I have written extensively on this. Google my articles: 'Offa: A recipe for sustainable development' and 'Offa: History beckons'
I am not a tribalist. But at the same time, I don't like quisling Yoruba, Yoruba 5th columnists. Men who seem to love the North more than they love their own people. Now, I'm not accusing you of that. . . I'm just saying, it is a very bad thing that must be stamped out in all parts of Yorubaland.

This is no more the 70s, 80s and 90s where such might have been necessary. All I'm saying is that fawning over Hausa and Fulani should be strongly discouraged.

Please lead to the hidden tendencies of my wrong indulgence in this debate. Even those who fought on the same side with Usman Dan Fodio had serious doubts about the dude’s integrity.
Provide a reference for this. And justify your comparison of him to Hitler (I guess you are accusing him of genocide? Pray tell, which tribe did he then wipe out?) Show how he was much worse than his contemporaries.

Its like a tsunami! It's a revolution against corruption in Nigeria.

BTW, how will your dad take this defeat!?
My dad is an Obasanjo and PDP fan and doesn't think ACN is too different from the PDP. But he won't care so long as the governors perform well and the economy grows. Like me, that is all he cares about. . . we just disagree on the best way to achieve this goal.

^-- Whether his mom is Hausa, Fulani, or from Zimbabwe, Offa town has struggled against the Ilorin Emirate since the 1800s (go read up on its history on Jstor), and likely views itself more as SW than "North."

Jarus really has no justification for playing these games. Loyalty to Kwara is fine. But after that, a man from Offa should be more loyal to the SW than Sokoto. There will come a time in this Nigeria when every man must pick a side. . . no more of these Yoruba who want to have their cake and eat it.
