fstranger3:He is from Offa, and thus most likely a pure Yoruba man. I dunno why he is so biased for the North though. Very strange. It isn't even going to be politically wise over the next few years, with the diminished influence of the core North. |
Whether you like the man or not, he is a winner. |
Dede1:*shrug* Keep dodging and hiding behind grammar. You were flat out wrong. |
Lest anyone deny that the standards of warfare have changed over time. . . let us consult the Good Book:
1 Samuel said to Saul, “I am the one the LORD sent to anoint you king over his people Israel; so listen now to the message from the LORD. 2 This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. 3 Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’”
Genocide appears to have been A-OK around that time. Nowadays? Will get you smacked down by the entire world. |
RichyBlacK:Well, the further you go back, the more the only rule is "anything goes." Wipe out/enslave the other side, don't let them do that to you ![]() but that the rules of the 19th century are different from the rules we have today.Geneva conventions, Hague conventions, Geneva protocol, etc, etc |
NE is solidy Buhari, no? When did it become a battle ground? |
Basseti:If this GEJ tenure works out well, then perhaps it is best for Nigerian presidents to be selected from minority groups? Who knows, maybe the problem with naija is Wazobia ![]() |
Dede1:No amount of grammar is going to save you, your position is inconsistent and wrong. 1) If you are a moral absolutist, then if you condemn Dan Fodio, then you must condemn EVERY conqueror before 1900 AD (unless you are claiming that he is far worse than they. Which is probably demonstrably false.) Otherwise you are being inconsistent. 2) And if you are NOT a moral absolutist, then you have no justification for judging a man from the 19th century on 21st century standards. |
Basseti:As a guy from a minority ethnic group in Nigeria who has alienated many within his own party by running for office, I'm not sure to what extent GEJ could rig w/o bringing about mass unrest in naija. So you are right, opposition is lucky that it is GEJ in office rather than say Yar'Adua or OBJ. |
Remii:I cannot speak on the behalf of Aregbesola, since I've not followed him well. Fayemi I've watched a bit more though. I think when it is all said and done, Fayemi will be seen as one of the best performing governors in Nigeria. Just three of the ideas he has: 1) He wants to create many more LGAs in Ekiti State; brings democracy closer to the people. 2) Merging three of the state-owned educational institutions in Ekiti State into one; will cut down costs greatly. 3) Even the grazing lands for Fulani which i thought was dumb is actually solid; it allows you to sue anyone who grazes outside of that grazing land. Anyway, I'm watching the guy, but I think (and hope) that he will be very good. |

Not sure it is good for any state to be controlled by one party. You need opposition. I hope the voters know what they are doing ![]() |
Basseti:Nope. I've not made any claims about how many seats they'll pick up. All I am doing is analyzing their strategy. It is the best one, as least compared to the other opposition parties. In my opinion, at least. The fact that other parties are picking up seats (CPC in the North, ACN in the South) says more of the malaise that people feel towards PDP rather than how well the other parties are organised or how credible the opposition is.Sure, a big part of the reason is the poor governance of the PDP. But it still requires intelligence and planning to take advantage of it. This isn't the only year people have disliked the PDP. . . yet this is going to be the year where the PDP suffers the largest setback. 4 yrs in politics is a very long time for $hit to go down especially when there is no Big Bad PDP to lay all the blames to.Of course, no one is claiming otherwise. ACN may implode before 2015. Perhaps they'll be tainted by scandals. But somehow I don't think this is so likely. |
dayokanu:+1 No doubt someone will blame the violence on "Aboki" MEND ![]() |
Warfare and conquest in the 1800s=crimes against humanity? Comparisons to Hitler? Will you use that same "contemporary gauge of history" to judge almost every conqueror before 1900 AD? ![]() A bit ridiculous. The rules are quite different now. Makes no sense to judge a 19th century figure using 20th and 21st century rules. |
ACN, like the intelligent and visionary party they are, is preparing the ground for 2015 and beyond. Rather than forcing a merger with the CPC by all means, they (rightly) realized that blowing all your ammunition on the 2011 Presidential might not be the best of ideas. The best organized and best run party in Nigeria today. |

@homerac7 and kcjazz: My fault, then. Still, I'd go by my full name if it is Aniweta, or take Anayochukwu into Anayo or Chuks. Anyway, I'm sure he doesn't care, Annie in SE Nigeria, people don't associate it with a woman's name. |

He is a money bag, campaigned vigorously, throwing around gifts and cash in the process and upon all, he is the serving senator.
A man named Annie? ![]() EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annie_Okonkwo Clement Annie Okonkwo. Me, I'd go by Clement if my middle name was Annie |
I'm am surprised after all this noise made by Dora, nothing will come of it. Ngige on the other hand has been less visible in the media, but I guess quietly working. |

Appreciate the advice folks. I'll try some of your suggestions and see how they work out. |
Good advice so far. I didn't realize she was a chatterbox at first. But she is the type of person who will start saying something, then go into tangent, after tangent, after tangent. I don't mind when this happens in person over dinner/watching tv/social event/etc, I can sort of multi-task and not get bored in those situations. But when it is over the phone. . . frikking drains the energy out of me. I dunno. I don't want to be rude either lest it cause a silly argument. The fear I have with changing the subject or askng additional questions is it only prolongs the convo. That is why I try to stick to "hmms", and "unh hunh". Keep the advice coming folks. naijababe:Bush farmer or something? Who told you that? ![]() |
^-- It was wrong, I don't think he will do it again. Likely he spoke in anger. |
