Nothing has really changed undecided

Free and fair elections in the SW (I guess where most of the cameras and international media is), wuruwuru elsewhere. Still no election results broken down by ward.

Elections in this country are a bit of a joke. . .

Almost all of the elections in the SW were Yoruba vs. Yoruba. So voting ACN Yoruba over PDP Yoruba = tribalism  huh

It seems such a silly analysis.
Politics › Re: Yorubas Liberated, Igbos Still In Bondage by ektbear: 12:08am On Apr 12, 2011
I don't think it is fair to call the ACN an ethnic party. What is the basis for doing this? Yes, currently it is mostly populated by Yoruba and is strongest in Yoruba states. But from what we've seen in Edo, Benue and other states, it seems capable of appealing to non-Yoruba.

Finally, what is the basis for saying that people voting for ACN are using only ethnic sentiment?

When the Democrats do poorly and they are all tossed out and replaced with Republicans, is that ethnic sentiment?

Igbo people bandy this accusation around a lot, without much justification (in my opinion).

Romance › Re: How Much Can U Do To Protect Your Sisters As A Man by ektbear: 11:44pm On Apr 11, 2011
It depends. I have some friends who I wouldn't mind if they dated my sister. Others, if they tried I'd beat them within an inch of their lives.

If you want to go after a friend's sister, you have to do it the right way. Because if the relationship goes bad, you'll create an enemy.

How is this not publicly available several days after the election?

Strange country, this Nigeria  undecided

@ekt_bear

If they did, why is APGA keeping quiet?
A good question. Since I'm not on the ground or much familiar with Igbo politics, I'll leave that to him to answer. But from what he says, they've used some of the same tactics used by the PDP in Kwara and by APGA in Anambra. . . mysterious late tallies released late in the night to counter early opposition leads.

Let me leave your question for him and others to answer, though.

@OnlyTruth: How are you sure that the PDP did not rig in the SE? Abagworo believes otherwise, for example.
The last time I checked, the SW region is part of Nigeria.pdp has not only failed in the SW but in all the regions.so if the SW is flushing out the pdp, then other regions should also do what they have in their capacity to flush pdp out.It should be a combined effort and not a follow follow affair.
It has to be done on a case-by-case basis, in my opinion. But if the end result of that case-by-case analysis is that you return ALL the PDP members in your zone to office. . . then it had BETTER be that the PDP is performing excellently well in your zone.

Given that SS, SE, NC, NW, and NE largely chose to return the PDP to power, I guess it must be that they approve of how the PDP has governed over the past 12 years or so. And if they approve of it, then who am I to tell them no?

If you see a woman in an abusive relationship, there is only so much you can do to rescue her. If she stays, then so be it. . . she has made her decision.
Politics › Re: Yorubas Liberated, Igbos Still In Bondage by ektbear: 8:33pm On Apr 11, 2011
@Eziachi: That to me should be the Igbo concern. That Goodluck is just pulling the same trick OBJ did in 2003. I am assuming that your leadership is going to avoid being screwed in the same way; there is no way they can be so foolish as to repeat the same mistake we made nearly a decade ago.

No, they were chosen based on performance not on tribal affiliations. If ACN should mess up, I assure you, they will be booted out
Nobody is denying that. None of this is tribal, really. ACN has a track record of success in the SW, PDP does not. Only a fool would choose the PDP over the ACN in that region. And my people are no fools.

I'm hypothesizing that in the SE, things are different. Perhaps the PDP was the most attractive option for them. If so, that is fine. . . everyone is entitled to make their own choices.
Politics › Re: Yorubas Liberated, Igbos Still In Bondage by ektbear: 8:15pm On Apr 11, 2011
It is fine. Everyone has made their own decisions. Yoruba have chosen ACN, Igbos have chosen PDP. Fairly confident that the former group will not be weeping tears of regret four years from now. As for the latter? I don't know enough to say.
Politics › Re: Yorubas Liberated, Igbos Still In Bondage by ektbear: 8:00pm On Apr 11, 2011
Tinubu isn't that bad. If he missteps, he can be taken down. Otoh, a guy like Obasanjo could not, because his "base" was outside of Yorubaland.

I prefer a Tinubu to an OBJ/PDP any day.

The main beef I have with the PDP really is that they want to play one-party-state, but not actually do a good job. Compare this to the Chinese Communist Party, which has been delivering 10%+ GDP growth to the Chinese for like 20 years now. They've uplifted literally hundreds of millions of people out of poverty. Do you think the average Chinese person views the CCP as pure evil, as many SW folk view the PDP?

PDP, all they deliver is mediocrity and incompetence.

If you want to rig, fine, go ahead and rig. But rig in a good governor, not a cattle rearer like Segun Oni undecided

PDP is a dangerous combination of incompetence, arrogance, and brutality. At the very least, Tinubu is competent.

Whats all the hype about; Lets wait till atleast 2014 to start making connotations; for all we know fashola 2nd term maybe a disaster; Let him deliver on the Six lanes lagos badagry express; the Light Railway; if not 4th mainlain bridge atleast extend Mile 12- Ikorodu road to Four lanes whilst maintain similar of service delivery in other areas as obtainable presently,  then we can talk; The above list project will show that he was able to conquer atleast the transportation monster facing lagos state. IMO
He has the highest approval rating of any politician in Nigeria and is still a very young man. So I'm not sure whether it is still hype. I'm sure he has been thinking about his future for some time now. . . certainly other Nigerians and Lagosians have.
