Please how do I go about activating my e-dividend warrants as a non-resident Nigerian? With the requirement of going to your bank for signature, is there anything I can do to get them activated without me coming to Nigeria? Thanks

Complete and sign the e-dividend form and send it by post to Naija. Then ask any of your relatives to take the form to your bank to affix their signature. After the bank's signature your relative should post it to the registrars. A registered post is recommended. Some branches of First bank doesn't charge for this service. Follow up with an email to the registrars to confirm whether they have received your post. You may also need to ask your broker to send a specimen of your signature to the registrars, if you bought from the secondary market.

Its ok,I will have to sort it out.....But is a no brainer since I have been registered for e-dividend and every dividend under my name must go into the same account......
Its

It's very disappointing and frustrating that this cannot be done automatically. This is part of the reason why unclaimed dividends keep piling up and SEC is not helping matters at all.

Since I was profile for e-dividend,I believe it should automatically reflects on all the stocks under African Prudential including future purchases from other firms...........I have mailed then and I will have to wait till next week to sort things out........

It doesn't work like that. You must inform the registrars to apply the existing mandate to your other accounts with other brokers. Even if you have stock ABC with an existing e-dividend mandate and you decide to buy more shares of stock ABC, you still need to ask the registrars to apply existing mandates otherwise you will receive part of your dividends by post. I had this experience with Veritas registrars when they were paying part of my dividends in my bank account and the rest by sending dividend warrants to my post.

This way, it will be paid at once.

I received alert for their dividend too in my mail.....I will like to know if you have APR shares with different stockbrokers, are you going to receive the dividend in one piece or batch by batch because the one that I receive stipulated something like APR.DIV2....And the amount does not tally with my total number of shares in 3 stockbroking firms......

I think it's going to be separately. My dividends on stocks with different brokers had always arrived in batches.

Just add some cash for x-alert SMS. N4 naira per one.

I have just checked again. Meristem charges 1.35% for buying and 1.35% for selling. The cumulative charges (after adding other fees) are 1.785% for buying and 2.085% for selling. Maybe you thought my post was referring to Morgan capital.

After reconstruction they might by back some of their shares but truly, how much is 260M units @ N0.50k were unity no fit mop up? Lets watch how the drama unfolds after next week.

I tire ooo. If they buy after reconstruction they will be buying at a price with risk of bears. Buying @0.50 would have been better. Maybe they are planning to mop up before the end of trading tomorrow which is the qualification date.

Some people with high risk appetite go hammer for dis unity bank reconstruction. Are you sure they will allow the price to fall just like that, for dis our mago mago NSE?

e be like say na OYO for unity bank shareholders after reconstruction o... why unity bank no mop up all 260 million units on offer before the reconstruction if they are optimistic about the future of the stock? Could it be that they are scared of investing in their own business? When could be the right time for a company to buy back its shares if not at benchmark price of 50 kobo?

What you guys also forget is that illiquid stock don't bring a lot of interest from other buyers. For example, let's assume that I have being mopping up eternal at 2.78- 2.95 and I have about 2million units after the accumulation. I want to sell at minus 10% but the number of units on buy order is not up to half of my own units am willing to sell. At the end I will be able to sell some but I will still have more than enough that I will still sell another day at another minus 10%. So what's the essence?

If you want to trade in illiquid stocks don't put to much cash.

That is the koko. It is illogical to be over exposed to an illiquid stock.

We're talking about illiquid stocks here, Sir. As in, ILLIQUID!

The decision is largely yours, based on investment circumstances. You could put your price at - 10% and exit at a faster rate or put at -5% or - 7% or - 3% and find it difficult to exit the ILLIQUID stock.

As for me o, I go even try - 15% sef grin grin grin I kukuma lose heavily and use the money sharperly in Transcorp or FBNH cheesy

If to say I see who wan buy my Universal insurance (the only bad stock in my portifolio grin) I for no mind losing 50% self

What if someone else puts his sell order at minus 10% when market opens? Will you advise I put mine at minus 10% and watch my profits being wiped away?

grin grin grin That is the point oga B2BR. It requires some level of descipline and sacrifice. Sacrificing 10% from already made profit or loss is not bad as long as you are able to get out of the stock and move on, except you're converting to long term. Remember the more you wait the more the stock may likely drop in price and will eventually lose more than that 10% you were not willing to let go.

Thanks boss.
I remember the challenge on your famous saying. Perhaps the ogas understand your point, it's just the coinage and semantics that raises eye brows.

Your quote makes it seem like there are some funds one can afford to lose or those in the stock market stand a high risk of losing money frequently. That was the disagreement then.

I think the quote can be modified thus:
"Don't trade with money budgeted for other things" OR
"Don't trade with your life support " OR
"Don't venture into the stock market if you don't know how to manage risks and failures"

Hope one of these expressions captures your idea
cc: passwelle

The expressions make sense but the argument was more like 'no one has money he/she is ready to lose'. There are no intermidiaries in the clause that led to the argument. It is either you can afford to lose (part or all) or you cannot afford to lose. If one cannot afford to lose- and knows what he is doing- why not invest 100% of his savings in a risky venture like the stock market. What I'm trying to say is that as long as you refused to invest 100% of your life savings in a risky trade, it means you are aware it's a risky investment and you may lose your money. If this statement is true then the clause remains valid.

For those that are scared of illiquid stocks, a good way to sell will be to place your order at lowest price. E.g, during pre market, you can minus 5% from the current price and make sure your order is the first on offer at that price (Ref price minus 5% @pre market). If the allowed price range adjusts after pre market, you may need to adjust your price as well so it remains the lowest offer price. This way, your order will be filled as long as the stock trades on that day (unless deals are cross trades). This does not apply to stocks on full offer since 1807 (e.g Unity bank). I usually exit Eterna and other illiquid stocks this way.

@ All I hail.
For the newbies (whom I assume are keen to trade and are not intent on long term investments), an earlier poster here mentioned DD using charts while the Sage gave very candid and invaluable advice above.
In my experience in the NSE, the more you see the less you understand. You can make money on almost every stock on our bourse (save for the deadwoods). Charts will mislead but may be accurate occasionally. Brokers/individuals that trade can make your chart show what they want you to see (both volume and price action e.g stdinsure, rtbriscoe, transexpr, costain etc) .... This game is one of fastest fingers first, either to enter or to exit. Don't gamble what you cant afford to lose. Dont over diversify. You dont have to be in every stock gaining. Cut your losses short and let your winners run (very vital so you know when to exit). Most importantly be observant, its unbelievable how much you can make from market making activities.

Gbam! The problem is most newbies don't want to invest for long term; they would rather JIJO. It is safer for newbies to go for long term with blue chip stocks while they relax and invest time reading investment books before they can go for JIJO.
