Those clubs can't afford the salaries demands of nani and RVP so a major part of their would be transfer is devoted to paying their salaries which is why transfer fees for both 'em low die.
More like we are doing it for the players. If that is the case, it's welcome.

Are we using our transfer out as 'sadaqah ' to other clubs?

It looks like it's about time the club hired another person to handle transfer of players going out.

I thought Moyes gave a five years contract to Nani recently? So why should we sell him for £3.5m? This is almsgiving to Fernerbachie. Even Van Persie is coming cheap for them. If they wanted to buy Cavani, will they be paying peanuts?

@elampiro.

Why will you even compare Lineker/Shearer to Scholes/Gascoigne.??No ruin this debate abeg
So someone who came second in Ballon d'or and was world cup top scorer shouldnt be considered ? Gary Lineker England squad was the closest coming to making England proud again.

1986 world cup he was top scorer with 6 goals despite booted out of the cup by Maradona in the quarter final. It was Maradona 2 goals Lineker 1 goal.

1990 he helped England to Semi Final after scoring 4 goals when the English team had narrow victories. He equalized West Germany in the semi when he escaped from two defenders to take the game to penalties. This was a tournament they said he was unwell.

See this again on top of being top scorer in top league three previous times :
He was the top division's second-highest
goalscorer in 1991–92 with 28 goals from 35
games, behind Ian Wright , who scored 29
times in 42 games. Despite Lineker's personal
performance, Tottenham finished this final pre-
Premier League season in 15th place.

perhaps if he had agreed to sign for Ferguson in 1989 he would have played a little longer and won more titles. But his individual achievement on the field is highly respectable.

I MAY BE WRONG BUT I THINK HE IS AN UNSONG GREAT.

There were many players who are better than Lineker and Shearer in their time. Shearer was basically a local champion and extremely overrated by the English media. His greatest weapon was headers just like Andy Carrol and He was even an inferior version of Oliver Bierrhoff who the Germans dont even rate very high

But Scholes and Gazzza I see players who had natural skill that can stand their peers in other countries of Europe. Its because of Scholes quiet nature and Gazza bad boy image that made them not media favourite

Scholes is a player I wish played for Bayern in his prime
I was not satisfied so I said let me just check. I believe Lineker was greater than Scholes. He scored against big teams in the world cup. Argentina, Germany.

Gary Winston Lineker, OBE (born 30 November
1960) is an English former footballer and
current sports broadcaster . He holds England 's
record for goals in FIFA World Cup finals, with
10 scored.

Lineker began his football career at Leicester
City. Despite failing to score in his first ten
games, he finished as the First Division's joint
top goalscorer in 1984–85. He then moved to
League Champions Everton where he
developed as a clinical finisher, scoring 30
goals in 41 games. His first team honours
came at Barcelona, where he won the Copa del
Rey in 1988 and the European Cup Winners'
Cup in 1989. He returned to England in 1989,
joining Tottenham Hotspur , and over three
seasons he scored 67 goals in 105 games and
won the FA Cup. Lineker's final club was
Nagoya Grampus Eight and he retired in 1994
after two seasons at the Japanese side.
Lineker made his England debut in 1984,
earning 80 caps and scoring 48 goals over an
eight-year international career, finishing as
England's all-time second highest scorer
behind Bobby Charlton . His international goals-
to-games ratio remains one of the best for the
country and he is regarded as one of the all-
time best English strikers. He was top scorer
in the 1986 World Cup and received the Golden
Boot , the only time an Englishman has
achieved this feat. He is also the only player
to have won the English golden boot with three
different clubs (Leicester City, Everton and
Tottenham Hotspur).
Even though he enjoyed a long career, Lineker
was never cautioned by a referee for foul play
and never received a yellow or red card . [1][2]
As a result of this accomplishment he was
honoured in 1990 with the FIFA Fair Play
Award.

Barcelona
After winning the Golden Boot at the 1986
World Cup in Mexico, Lineker was signed by
Barcelona for £2,800,000. Barcelona were
being managed by former Queens Park
Rangers manager Terry Venables, who had
also brought in Manchester United and Wales
striker Mark Hughes .
His Golden Boot-winning performance at the
finals led to much anticipation of success at
the Camp Nou, and he did not disappoint,
scoring 21 goals in 41 games during his first
season, including a hat-trick in a 3–2 win over
arch rivals Real Madrid.

And how can you call Shearer a local champion, what did Gascoigne do? And you put Shearer on Carol 's level? Shearer won the league for Blackburn and destroyed teams even at Newcastle.

stop comparing nobodies to the debate that has messi & maradona in it. maradona won trophies for club & country. messi is an underachiever for his country. that is the difference between the two.
He doesn't understand that there are levels like a ladder. In a ladder with 10 steps, how can anyone bring names of players from far lower steps (let say step 5, 6,7etc) into discussion involving steps 1 and 2?

Even if Emenike wins a champions league now on top of his Nations cup he can't be on same step as Okocha or Oliseh who are in far lower steps than Messi . If Forlan had won the world cup in 2010, he wont be on same step as Messi. If Rojo had won a world cup, he will still be far lower than Vidic in the ladder.

The players in the top tier of the ladder, lets say 2 to 3 have exceptional attributes that have placed them there. Exceptional skills, one or two of the best players in the world during their time, won trophies.

To move from tier 2 to tier 1, the player should be undisputable best player of his generation and beyond, the player must have magic moments in the world cup that even generations unborn will applaud when they come, he should have a stand out performance in world cup crucial stage /match, the player must win a world cup, he must have helped his club to win trophies.

Wetin con concern Emenike for this?

If BighiNya can understand what I am trying to illustrate, he will stop the argument.

that RvP Range tho cool
Na d one wey succeed be this ones. There might still be your mate training hard playing every day under Bridge in corners of Lagos, frustrated but still dreaming of breakthrough.

When I did My NYSC in Lagos, I met some guys in the field in Ikeja Barrack (I think that was airforce Barrack, I usually went through Maryland). That was our venue for NYSC football training every Fridays. There was this local team which trained there as their normal ground. Some of the players who were probably above 30 already at the time were still dreaming of playing in Europe.

I had so much pity for them because I felt they were stuck. One particular one, didnt even have skills. the worst is that he had no other job. Even me that was far far much younger was just playing for fun, but old men were dreaming - self deception I thought.

In the festac area , the same. Men wey don train under sun for years, yet no breakthrough and some no quality skills when you play against them. Although some were really young. I met one guy in Ojo military Barrack training ground, near Vogts , he couldnt have been more than 17 and he was really good and their second best player.

Most of them survive from little money made from being hired as mercenaries, their ex training pals who got clubs in Easter Europe, China, etc. Some are Nigerian league reject. Although that 17 years said he didn't fancy the idea of playing in the local league.

When you see people football has frustrated, who wished they pursue education side by side, or instead, you will be consoled. You will say may be you really would not have made it. Even Etim Esin, how much did he make? Amuneke doesn't look like someone who earned foreign currency before. These were identified, got to the promise land but got their careers truncated.

People just criticized messi unjustly, maybe George Oppong Weah is shyte since he didn't win any national team trophy. In germany 2006 jose pekerman benched him and the argies paid for him. Messi is beyond description. Garrincha, vava and didi contributed to pele's success with brazil. I blame higuain and the useless forwards
Messi also has himself to blame. He missed a good chance in the last world cup.

When mates let you down, Maradona and Pele take it upon themselves to do the unthinkable and score, even if it meant going past 7 men. This is why you hear Pele scored a hatrick in semi final, brace in final. Hatrick in club cup final. Maradona went past men to eliminate England and Belgium in crucial stage.

But Messi missed with only Nueuer left in the final of the world cup. His best in Copa was to try to get a second assists (a pass that leads to an assist). That is Where Maradona would have gone past just two defenders left or beat one and give a juicy direct assist for Higuain to tap in. That is magic moment we need.

If this Darmian deal goes through, it will make sense. We are getting an Italian international for a cheap price. Sorry for all the clubs waiting to scam us with ridiculously high transfer fees.

Clubs will now know United has alternative to its interests.

I like the guys height. Defenders should be tall. If short, should be exceptional like Carlos and Marcelo. Raphael has a massive potential but Gaal has his kind of players in mind.

Manchester United have agreed a fee with
Torino for Italy international right-back Matteo
Darmian, according to Sky Italia sources.

Talks between the clubs have been ongoing
and, after rejecting United's first two bids,
Torino have agreed to sell their prized defender
for £12.7million (€18m).
Darmian is a versatile defender who is capable
of playing in either full-back spot, though his
favoured position is on the right, but also has
experience at centre-half and at 6ft tall offers a
strong aerial presence.

Even if he can't win a major tournament at least be dominant in any of them, not scoring against Bosnia, Iran and Nigeria

Rio Ferdinand

Good luck to Naan Bread ( Nani) on his move to
Turkey!! Different environment where I believe he
will flourish. Questions will be asked whether he
will be happy with his utd career? Of course he
will be happy.. endless amount of trophies where
he played his part.. However, knowing Nani as I
do, I do believe he would have wanted more
games & to have influenced more consistently
during his United tenure!

He was blessed with lots of attributes, having the
tools to match most in the world - pace, power in
both feet, skill, strength...I could go on. It's one
thing having all that it's another putting it all
together....week in week out! There aren't many
that do and there is the thing that separates
Messi & ronaldo from the next tier of Suarez,
Neymar, Zlatan etc. Don't get me wrong those
are world class players as well but there is tiers
with how consistently they produce moments of
defining brilliance and it goes on n on thru the
tiers of players! A key attribute for any world
class player is decision making, when to dribble,
when to shoot and when to pass. The players in
the top tiers get them decisions right more often
than not.

What category Nani sits in now is hard to judge
as he hasn't played for man utd for a long time.
He produced wonder moments back in Portugal
but I have not seen much of him consistently at
sporting. For me he had all the attributes to have
been in the 2nd n 3rd tiers easily.

Of all the players I've played with during my
career, if I wanted someone to beat someone 1
vs 1 & it was do or die he would have been one
of my first picks for sure. He can go either way,
off either foot, tricky & lightening quick - a
defenders nightmare!

There was always going to be comparisons
between him and Ronaldo due to the fact they
were from Portugal and Lisbon. When he first
joined, it would have been great for him to have
Ronaldo there for him to learn and adapt - how
to train, manage yourself on & off the pitch etc.
However the downside to the comparisons came
expectation, which is a hard thing to deal with
for most especially at a club like Manchester
United .

I wish my mate well on his new adventure & I'm
sure he will produce moments of excitement &
brilliance for his new team & set of fans. Good
luck Naan Bread!

He has never produced a magic moment at senior level outside Barca. That is why he has not won a national trophy.

Pele produced magic moments for club and country to win several big trophies. Maradona produced some too.

This should end the argument until Messi produces a magic moment to win for Argentina

We are talking about main men. Real legends. Players who can single handedly win crucial matches- world cup semi finals and finals. Players who are capable of being national treasure. These players must also have excelled in clubs.

Now we are drawing the line between the greats who met those expectations and those who failed or fell short.

Messi fell short. Which world cup goal has he even scored that resembles Maradona goal against England? Against Belgium dribbled past defenders to score two goals. In the final he had an assist. Pele also had solo goals in same stages of the world cup.
