PoliticsRe: 2011: Women Must Be Given 50% Elective Offices - Sambo by eldee(m): 5:18am On Jun 26, 2010
you seem not to know too much about MDGs. they are all meant to be achieved by 2015 (although it is currently not very successful).
improving economic balance between gender and access to information (ie education) are separate indicators not steps to 3.3

and i don't know what you mean by making a mountain out of a molehill.
I don't know much about them, but I know quite a bit about democracy.
And I know that the only way to ensure a proper representation of the social groups in a nation is by informing the people and giving them a right to vote.
If the country can prove that the women themselves were educated and economically active and voted men into power, what will the UN do bout that??

You're placing way too much emphasis on 3.3 when there are about 40 other indicators on the UN site you posted.
Using the 'they'll stop giving us aid' for shock value.
PoliticsRe: 2011: Women Must Be Given 50% Elective Offices - Sambo by eldee(m): 5:10am On Jun 26, 2010
that's why I say I hope it brings about changes.

and i think you are confusing Rwanda with Uganda. homosexuality is not illegal in Rwanda. it wasn't voted
it is in Uganda that there is the controversy because some guy in congress proposed the death bill. even the president is scared of passing it due to international outcry and possibility of halted aid.
As I said before, I don't care bout what happens in another third world country except if they can prove to me that it gave them a better standard of living than the Swedes.
how do you mean doing democracy the right way? nigeria is 50% men and 50% women.  huh why should it be  99% men ruling the country?
to implement change you have to do something drastic at first otherwise, things will never change.
Democracy the right way is ensuring that the electoral system is transparent and encouraging people to select whoever they want . . . man, woman, child, tranny, whoever they want.
It wouldn't bother me if the country were ruled by 100% men if they were elected democratically.
If this women thing isn't going to change that, then I say it's just window dressing like the B.S Ms Dora is doing with the Rebranding exercise.
ex. affirmative action in US. otherwise, all the elite schools in the US will still be all white and there will be very few minority professionals. obama went to columbia.
Oh, why didn't they go your way and say 35% of the Senate seats must go to people of ethnic minorities??
Do you see how unreasonable that sounds??
PoliticsRe: 2011: Women Must Be Given 50% Elective Offices - Sambo by eldee(m): 4:50am On Jun 26, 2010
and besides, the UN and the international bodies are probably the ones pushing for more gender equality. without us obeying their instructions, we won't get loans and financial assistance from them.
and this is a relatively easy outcome to achieve IMO

MDG indicator 3.3: Proportion of seats held by women in national parliament
http://www.undp.org/mdg/goal3.shtml
If you went a little further into your link, you'll see the steps they listed.
Educating women on their rights, improving economic balance between genders, improving access to information e.t.c.
That's all you need to prove to them to get aid.

You're making a mountain out of the molehill . . .
oh wow. you guys are talking as if the men in power themselves were selected for intelligence and merit.
why pretend naija politics isn't based on nepotism

anyways, i support the move. just that I hope it will bring about changes for naija regarding women n children issues that are always being ignored.
an african country - Rwanda recently surpassed Sweden with the highest number of females in parliament.  cool
http://content.undp.org/go/newsroom/choices-rwandas-parliament-now-leads-world-in-gender-parity-2004-12.en?categoryID=349431&lang=en
I don't care about what's happened in Rwanda . . . if it were working properly they wouldn't be voting for the death penalty for homosexuals.
You say it like Rwanda having the highest number of women in Parliament is a trophy. Bush had what was probably the most experienced cabinet in terms of economic matters, he led the world into a recession.

How can claim we're being democratic if we make it legal to let your gender give you a better chance of winning a post in elected offices.
Enforcing candidates on the populace is never the way forward. . . doing democracy the right way is the solution.

Modenine cannot afford to do good videos, that's where having a strong record label or at least multiple shows come in.

The message of the video was the same with Crowd Mentality, just see the difference.
