experience16: strange beings do exist. I cud remember when I was studying in UNIBEN. I stayed off campus in Ekosodin then. I went to read in the night in the Faculty of Education but I cud no longer continue reading due to uncontrollable sleep in the class,so I decided to go back to my room around 12:30am to sleep. As soon as I got to the Ekosodin gate, I saw somebody afar walking towards the village. As much as I ran to catch up with this person so dat we cud walk together becos it was dark, the more this person kept me a distance. The more I tried to catch up with him,the more this being kept maintaining dat distance. I gave up and concluded dat this so called man is not a normal human being. I got to my hostel and told my room mate. After listening to me,he said dat we should sleep and talk about it in the morning. when it was morning, my room mate woke me up and said thank God for ur life. He said, dat thing I was trying to walk with was a spirit. Since dat day, I stopped going to that village late in the night alone. So my nairalanders, they exist, pray not to have an encounter with them.

Can you believe this person has a university education? Please do not take offence. I just find it ridiculous that someone who has gone through years of structured education believes in ghosts and ghouls (and mermaids grin ) . Perhaps you were sent to study something unscientific. You are entitled to your views anyway, and I must respect that.

Agrika: @ eladelo, yes
Just ridiculous. So scientific minds who have found cures for numerous diseases, built airplanes and even your air conditioner are the ones who are brainwashed? But people who run away from the river at night for fear, not of drowning, but of witches and mermaids are enlightened? Does this make any sense whatsoever? Anyway, this is your opinion. I respect that. No offence meant.

And just for the record: The phrase is 'LIVE EXPERIENCE'.

If I understand you correctly, you are saying those that do not believe in mermaids are being brainwashed?

1. How about making the legislative position a part time job; You are only paid on the sitting day and you must live among the members of your constituents. The present situation where they all reside in Abuja thereby loosing touch with the people they are representing is counter productive. Also Making it a part time job will reduce the attraction.

2. The position of a minister of state and the attendant staffs under them doesn't just make sense.
This is one of the reasons I like exchange of ideas. Great points noted above, especially regarding Part time legislature!

Another Aviation Agency Bought 4 Toyota Tundras For Minister Oduah, Alongside Four Limousines For VIPs

A new SaharaReporters investigation reveals that the National Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), another agency under the Ministry of Aviation, also purchased four Toyota Tundra vehicles for the Minister, Mrs. Stella Oduah.

Nigerians are currently up in arms about two armored cars purchased for her by another agency, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, at the scandalous rate of N225million, and many are calling for her to be fired.

The Tundras are in addition to four stretch limousine cars that were allegedly purchased for the movement of VIPs.

Saharareporters obtained the photos of the Limousines, which were parked at the headquarters of the Total Radar Coverage of Nigeria (TRACON)
grounds in Abuja today.

Efforts to get the NAMA spokesperson, Supo Atobatele, to comment on the fresh allegations proved abortive as he claimed he was driving and could not speak on the wheel. When later confronted with the facts, Mr. Atobatele denied the existence of the stretch limos claiming that NAMA is a “professional agency” that provides navigational aid to aircrafts flying within Nigeria’s airspace. He hung up and switched off his phone when further told that Saharareporters had the photos.

NAMA’s CEO, Nnamdi Udo, reportedly made the purchase and ‘donation’ of the Tundras to the Minister in June 2013. The four Limousines were received in the third week of June but have never been put to use.

Last week after SaharaReporters revealed the purchase of two BMW armored cars for the Minister, her aides and later the Managing Director of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Fola Akinkuotu, claimed the vehicles were meant for VIP movement, but a former lawmaker and leader of Anti-Corruption Network, Dino Melaye, told SaharaReporters today that it is the duty of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to transport international VIPs in Nigeria.

He also revealed that the most important Aviation inspectors are teams from the ICAO who already have a Nigerian office which handles all their transactions.

SaharaReporters could not confirm if the NAMA limos are armored. It is also unclear why NAMA, an agency believed to be cash-strapped, would need stretch limos that are normally used by celebrities, to ferry international VIPS.

Meanwhile, a high-level source has confirmed to SaharaReporters that the Total Radar Coverage of Nigeria, which Mrs. Oduah brags about as one of
her achievements in office, provides epileptic service. Because it often breaks down, the objective of establishing a safer national airspace is said to have been compromised. Foreign airlines are said to rely on their built in navigational equipment for air safety within the Nigerian airspace.

CFCfan: The number of members in a State House of Assembly should instead be based on a State's population.
Then how do you ensure fair representation at the FEDERAL level? As I said earlier, States are not subject to these illogical constraints but the Federal level is something else. And what worries me is that it is the law!

CFCfan: I chose 2 Senators because of the primary need to cut down the cost of running the FG. In the US, 2 senators represent each state.
I feel you on the cutting down on Federal Govt costs. But I'm not a fan of copy-paste solutions. We might as well create 50 states, just like US in that case.
PoliticsRe: My Random Musings On The Nigerian Government by eledalo: 2:20am On Oct 18, 2013
CFCfan: ^^
But there is no need to have 3 senators representing each state, two will do
Why two? Why the random numbers? Its the same thing with House of Reps members. Why the random numbers?
Remember a Senator/House of Reps member is a representative of the POPULATION. Some states need only one Senator!
The number of REPRESENTATIVES should be based on the number of people he/she is REPRESENTING - i.e the RESIDENT POPULATION. - not a random number of 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or 9!

The way you came to the number of 2 Senators is the same way the constitution writers came to the number of 3 Senators - its just a random number applied across board! Unless you are able to explain how you arrived at your suggestion of 2 Senators?

This discussion can even help us think through the topic 'What constitutes a State in Nigeria?' but I don't ant to hijack your thread grin
View response from previous post
eledalo: Is this proper representation?
Surely not! Otherwise this would mean that the voice of 4million people in one state is equal to the voice of 700 thousand in another. Accurate and fair representation is by population. And I mean the RESIDENT population, not how many people claim a place as State of Origin.

Simply put, representative government that we supposedly practice cannot function properly by random numbers - 3 senators each, 2 aides each, 4 whatevers from each geo-political zone, etc, etc.
PoliticsRe: My Random Musings On The Nigerian Government by eledalo: 1:57am On Oct 18, 2013
The most important questions here are:
What constitutes a Senatorial Zone in Nigeria?
In Nigeria, a senatorial zone is simply one-third (1/3) of a state! Each state, regardless of population has 3 senators. So you can have a state like Lagos or Kano where each Senator represents almost 4 million people, whereas in Ekiti or Jigawa each Senator represents 700 thousand people or even less.

Is this proper representation?
Surely not! Otherwise this would mean that the voice of 4million people in one state is equal to the voice of 700 thousand in another. Accurate and fair representation is by population. And I mean the RESIDENT population, not how many people claim a place as State of Origin.
Example: The population of Lagos is huge, but the population of people from Lagos is relatively small!
And remember, you are not represented by the person in your State of Origin but in your State of Residence!
Need evidence?: Check your voters card. If you are from Imo and are registered in Lagos, you can only vote for Lagos Gubernatorial/Senate elections and not for Imo!

Is having 36+ ministerial posts useful in any way, shape or form?
No. Because it means that 36+ ministerial positions must be available. If a 37th state is created, then another ministry or post will have to be created, BY LAW! Inherently wasteful!

Simply put, representative government that we supposedly practice cannot function properly by random numbers - 3 senators each, 2 aides each, 4 whatevers from each geo-political zone, etc, etc.

Please note that I'm referring to the Federal Level of Government. State Govts are not to bound by these illogical constraints, and can create State Ministries as need arises.

PoliticsJonathan's Administration: What Went Wrong? by eledalo(op): 10:44pm On Oct 10, 2013
In 2010, Vice President Goodluck Jonathan was under pressure. President Musa Yar'Adua was nowhere to be found, and Goodluck was kept out of the loop by the infamous 'cabal' - a group of high-level politicians loyal to no other power than their own.
The people took to the streets, demanding the whereabouts of President Yar'Adua and that the law be followed - Goodluck Jonathan must be made Acting President. These protests attracted participation from Nigerians from all walks of life - Nobel Laurate Wole Soyinka, musicians and even opposition politicians came out for whatever interest.
On February 24, 2010 the tide unexpectedly changed - Yar'Adua was flown in in the dead of the night; the Military guarded the Airport's Presidential Wing without official clearance and the political situation was as tense as ever.
Meander through the details to May 5, 2010 and Yar'Adua was declared dead. Goodluck Jonathan was undoubtedly and unquestionably President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The first President from a minority group. A simple man of humble beginnings. A former lecturer.
The sheer amount of goodwill that followed led him to win the 2011 elections, judged by some to be the fairest behind the cancelled 1993 election.

Barely 3 years since he was elected President in 2011, all goodwill seems to have simply disappeared!

Following the 2012 Fuel Subsidy Strike, things for this President seem to have gotten progressively worse - political infighting within his party has worsened to a level where the PDP has officially split; terror group Boko Haram has widened operations to commercial centers of Kaduna and Kano killing 100s in the past week alone; public universities across the nation on strike for 102 days and counting; doctors downed tools over pay; 2 high profile planecrashes and numerous air mishaps and a continuously weakening Naira value.
All these in addition to the problems of severly unstable electricity, a bloated civil service and crumbling roads and infrastructure - which in a contrived defence only possible in a thrid world country, existed before he took office.

So the question for Nigerians who cheerily voted on 16 April 2011, is the same Jonathan and his handlers must be asking themselves in the privacy of their bedrooms- What the hell went wrong?

HealthAsaju Medical Clinic VI - Dangerous To Your Health! by eledalo(op): 5:10pm On Aug 19, 2013
I just got back from a hectic day at this so called Medical clinic, just went there for a check up. I sincerely wish I took pics and videos of this place.

Arrived there at 8:50am, after booking a 9:00am appointment last week, to meet only the gateman and one receptionist, who left a few minutes later to buy food huh

By 10, another receptionist strolled in along with a few nurses. By this time a few young people had arrived apparently for their medicals for canadian student visa.
At a few minutes to 12 we were given forms to fill, and all of us were asked to go to find a zenith branch to pay! So we all trooped out.

Of course we were all hungry by this time. A few of the students went out to find food to eat and I also left Asaju 'Clinic' seeing that the receptionists were watching TV. Would you believe that after 4 hours of waiting, no one NOT A SINGLE SOUL had been attended to?? Their excuses varied from oga is not around, the doctors are not around and we tried to call you but network was bad. Did I hear you say what the f?
So after 2 o clock, we were called to start - halleluyah! - but no don't be deceived! We were only called to collect urine bottles, which we urinated into and held for another hour! So imagine about 10 people just walking around with urine bottles. Funny but not so funny.

The students by this time don tire. Complaints had started, and to be honest some of us who were wise enough not to pay had left - remember this is after about 5 hours of us waiting. Let me quote the receptionists response to the students, and I kid you not:

'You can leave if you want, afterall I did not force you to come. So what do you want again?'

Damn! I felt bad.

Well after small talking again, the kids went to sit down and the rest of us chimed in, but ultimately we knew we had sealed our fate by going to pay into their account.

3:30pm - the doctor is finally around and its my turn. Now this is the part that pissed me off and made me write this review. Not only did the nurses mislabel EVERYBODY'S blood sample and take a new one for all of us, the doctor's office was a f£$cking bedroom! A bedroom with a curtain near the door! Na wa o!

So I was finally done. Fortunately I do not live too far away from Olosa street where asaju clinic is so i just drove home and booked an appointment with another clinic with a better reputation.

Finally, after 6 hours of waiting and a 20 minute check up, I was done.
And so you know I had to leave the canadian student's there to complete their own exams, at about 4.20pm.

Please if you have any other experiences with this place please advise and to all you friends and family out there, find somewhere else to do your medical exams and please AVOID asaju medical clinic like the plague - if you value your health!
