Why are u always infuriated when someone's views differ from yours? You always talk about people trying to force their views on you.
Do you have a psychological scar of growing in a home were you were forced to accept views?
Your case is abnormal!
Politics › Th Igbos: From A Rejected Stone To A Corner Stone. by Ellyptical(op): 7:42pm On Apr 26, 2009
L+G,
Recalling the days shortly after the civil war, the Nigerian Government reduced all the bank savings of the Igbos to a paltry N20 irrespective of what one had in the bank before the war. The nigerian currency was also changed during the war so that any physical cash held by any person of Igbo extraction would be mere paper after the war.
Logical would it be, to infer that the motive of this cruel decision was to keep the Igbos in penury and to make the Igbo race synonymous to poverty. However, the tides turned too quickly and the rejected stone suddenly rose to take the rightful place. The Igbos took over education again (as statistics has clearly shown) and have also take over the economy of the nation.

Currently, the Igbo Race has the lowest poverty rate in Nigeria.

In the North-West, 74 percent of the people are poor, that is they live on less than one dollar a day; in the North-East the poverty rate is 78 percent; North Central, the figure is 70 percent.

By contrast the South-West has about 28 percent; the South-South 30 percent, while the South-East, from where Soludo (lucky him) comes from, turned out to be the wealthiest part Nigeria with a poverty rate of 23 percent.

http://www.dailytrust.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7396&Itemid=24
North-West - 74%
North-East - 78%
North Central - 70%
South-West - 28%
South-South - 30%
South-East - 23%

The million-dollar question is this.
How is it that the tribe that has held on to power the most is still the poorest in Nigeria?
How is it that a people that were left with a mere N20 after the war turned around to become the richest people in Nigeria?

A Logical answer to any of the aforementioned questions will be highly appreciated.
For me, i think its the Jewish Instinct because I cannot find a logical explanations to that.
Igbo Kwenu!
Obrigado.

UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development organization) flagged Nnewi for automobile ingenuity. If our govt was not lousy, Nnewi should have been the Japan of nigeria in terms of auto stuffs.
Peter Obi should build a steel factory if he has some ideas. The steel factory will boost automobile development a great deal.
Kudos about the epay system.

The Opobos admit being of Igbo Origin. They do not deny it and they celebrate their king jaja a lot. His statue is a everywhere in their town. And guess what, they even know his real original igbo name (before the British men shortend it to ja-ja). They even know the town in Igboland he is from.
TV/Movies › Re: Jenifa the. blockbuster by Ellyptical: 4:17am On Feb 20, 2009
I just browsed through the first part of the movie on youtube and what greeted me on the opening was a Yoruba line. Men! Guys, Lets be real and practical for this once. The movie may no doubt be nice (I bet its better than a lot of Nollywood Movies), but not everyone enjoys watching a movie that they have to look off the faces of the actor to look at the bottom of the screen just to understand the words of the actors.
I noticed that Yoruba movies are not really that bad, but the nollywood movies which are predominantly Igbo, sell more and get more air time on DSTV because the producers realise that language is a key factor. Thats the same reason why Yoruba movies are hardly heard of outside the west while Nollywood movies are very popular in the Caribbean and in other African countries.
The first Nollywood movies were acted in Igbo (Living in Bondage and Circle of Doom, followed by Taboo, Ikuku, Rattlesnake etc ) but to cut across the market, they quickly switched to English and the rest is all what you are seeing Nollywood to be today.
Movie making is business! In business, every investor wants to cut across and hold the largest market share. For the singular reason of the language of this movie, it will not sell as much as it would have sold if it were acted in English.
Has anyone here watched Slumdog Millionaire? A real Blockbuster acted with 100% indian actors. Shot in the slums of india so much so that they filmed a scene were people pay to use a public toilet made of a wooded cubicle with a hole where the feaces falls though into a pit below! Yet its a blockbuster!
Imagine if that movie was shot in the Hindi I bet i wouldn't even know such a movie existed.
I respect talented scriptwriters and producers irrespective of their background . . . .but Yoruba producers need to get a life and break off the shackles of narrow-mindedness!
How do I read the microexpressions on the faces of the actors when i am struggling to read the lines on the bottom of the screen?

Slumdog Millionaire
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1010048/

They've just denied me of an opportunity to enjoy a nice movie angry

PS: They should work towards putting the movie on a DVD with multiple voicings. . . . .by then, they'll have to worry about lip-synching. . . . but that's about the only way they can remedy the situation.

Mpele,
If one should filter out the black part of SA, they are not just 3rd world, they are 5th world.
1) High illiteracy -illiteracy rate higher than Nigeria and Ghana
2) High crime rate - Crime rate higher than Nigerian and Ghana.
3) Poor empowerment - Mainly menial wokers with little or nor intellectual prowess unlike Nigerians and Ghanaians
4) High teenage pregnancy rate.
5) Highest HIV population in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD!!!!! . . .Can you beat that!!!!
Can I hear you say First-World Again?
All the characteristics of the Black Populace of SA are typical of 3rd world nations. Permit me to say they are even worse!

The disappointing person of RichyBlack never sees these kind of threads!
Islam is a demonic religion. Why?
Look at it this way. The Christians say the supreme creator is God, the Muslims say it is Allah. Now, whoever this supreme creator is, both sides agree he created all men and gives life to all. If Allah is really the creator of the world, why does he enjoy bloodshed? Why does he love to see his own creation die? Does a creator love to see his creation destroyed? No! Even if that creation has turned against the creator, he still gives him a chance and does not instruct his people to kill "the jews and the Christians" in the name of a jihad.
Only the enemy of the creator (Allah the Demon) loves to see the creation of the supreme creator dead. The creator will not love to see his creation (even the ones that have turned against him) killed and wasted for the simple reason of being an "infidel".
The world would have been a better and more peaceful place if Mohammad was NEVER born!
Take it or leave it.

An Example of what the south African Blacks were going through when we stood by them

The policy of Bantu (African) education was aimed to direct black or non-white youth to the unskilled labor market.

The South Africa's National Party viewed education to be a key element in their plan to create a completely segregated society. The Minister of Education at the time, Henrik Verwoerd, stated that:

There is no place for [the Bantu] in the European community above the level of certain forms of labour , What is the use of teaching the Bantu child mathematics when it cannot use it in practice? That is quite absurd. Education must train people in accordance with their opportunities in life, according to the sphere in which they live.

The government controlled the curriculum of the segregated schools and the books used regularly included sentences such as "This kaffer has stolen a knife, this kaffer is lazy".

The schools reserved for the country's white children were of Western standards and the education was both mandatory and free. 30 % of the black schools did not have electricity, 25 % running water and less than half had plumbing. The education for Blacks, Indians and Coloured was not free.[1] In the 70's the per capita governmental spending on black education was one-tenth of the spending on white.[3]

In 1976 student protests against the Afrikaans Medium Decree of 1974 which forced all black schools to use Afrikaans and English in a 50-50 mix as languages of instruction led to the Soweto uprising in which more than 575 people died, at least 134 of them under the age of eighteen.

Foreign Affairs › South African Blacks - Could It Be Inferiority Complex? by Ellyptical(op): 5:47pm On Feb 01, 2009
L+G,
Its no news that S/African Blacks would love to wake up someday to see a South Africa free of Nigerians. It however baffles my mind that these S/African Blacks have a deep seated hatred for other africans - Nigerians in particular considering the role we played during the apartheid. I recall the days of the apartheid.
The south African Blacks were more or less slaves.
They needed a gate pass and ID card to go into the white areas to do menial jobs.
They were not allowed to gather in large groups else the irrational white policemen would disperse them violently in the name of "unlawful assembly".
They lived in wooden houses whereas the white dominated areas were world-class - and the labour used to build these white cities was supplied by the blacks.
White youths were allowed to carry guns by law as self-defense - presumably to shoot any black that poses a threat to his life.
This is just a tip of the iceberg of how bad the apartheid was (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apartheid)

A friend told me that once in a mall, there was a queue of blacks was and this white woman came and walked past all the blacks and went straight to the counter to transact. Everyone was mute! Suddenly this bold guy challenged her, dealt her a blow of harsh words and got her to where she should be - at the back of the queue. Next thing? Questions from here and there "Are you Nigerian? Are you Nigerian?" of course he was! This occurrence was even after the Apartheid.

Throughout all these, other african nations, especially nigeria, stood by them until they got their freedom.
Now that they have got their freedom, Nigeria is the enemy. South Africn Blacks (like Mpele and co) hate Nigerians with a passion. They went ahead on a rampage recently burning other african immigrants in their country. If this was how the US was burning illegal immigrants, would they be where they are today?
My mind tells me two things
1) Could it be because of the nefarious activities of Nigerians in SA?
I reason that it is not. Even in Europe, Nigerians have bad records. I am not in any way making excuses for the sins of Nigerians. I hate crime with a passion. However, in europe, there has not really been a time when there was a mass riot and open burning of africans as we saw recently in SA.
The MD of shoprite nigeria openly said to a newspsper reporter "Nigeria is safer to do business than South Africa. In Nigeria, they rob you and apologize to you that its the bad economy. In South Africa, they rob you and KILL YOU!"
A relative of mine went to SA for a course and the tour guide was taing them around. When they got to Heilbron, he (a white) refused to drive further. Why? He said there was every possibility (almost a certainty) that they would be shot from a window on one of the buildings. SA has one of the worst crime rates in the world. Their blacks are VIOLENT and non-industrious. They are relatively uneducated even though they have the best Universities in Africa.
They rape carelessly, kill recklessly and have a high rate of teenage pregnancy. We all know that the position of SA on the World Health Organisation list for AIDS (Number 1 Position) is attributed to the black population)
A south African friend of mine ( a white) told me that Nigerians in south africa are into ORGANISED CRIME - Not violent crime. He said they mainly are into bank frauds, scams, shady money deals (crimes that involve brain work)but NOT the violent type of crime like gang rape, robbery etc.
Surprisingly, the people who desperately want Nigerians out are not the Whites! Its the blacks!
South Africa is ranked to be much more unsafe than Nigeria.
This leaves to to reason that its not the crime issue that alienates us from SA Blacks. Their Blacks are probably worse criminals.

2) Could it be Jealousy/inferiority complex?
Well, a colleague went for an IT conference organised
by one of the Biggest IT firms in the world. SA was the only venue for Africa. Surprisingly, there was NO SINGLE SA black there. ALL the blacks there we NIGERIANS! The SA Blacks are NOT empowered. They
are not as literate as Nigerians. The average SA Black is applying to Honda Plant in SA as a cleaner/janitor or technician whereas the Nigerian in SA is applying to the same Honda Plant as a Mechanical Design Engineer. This same colleague of mine told me that its only Nigerian that challenge the whites in SA as per qualification level, exposure, corporate positions and wealth in general. In Johannesburg, if you see a black in any white collar position, chances are he/she is Nigerian.
In effect, it is reasonable to think that this feeling of hate is because they feel inferior/threatened to/by Nigerians.

What's your take?

Notice that for almost all the years, four out of the five igbo states were in the top 10 states. Thats 80% of the igbo states showing academic dominance.
I am not putting this up for critics, but I am putting it up for the igbos in the house, that we may have a sense of achievement in the land wherein we are disliked and subdued.
Soon enough, we'll take our rightful place in this country and when that happens, our self actualization as near as it can be.

@ Asha,
why are you so scared of this your "Igbo Bashing" thing? Have you noticed that my threads have hardly suffered any real bashing? I always make factual and verifiable statements. While i understand your concern for the image of Igbos, I still want to reassure you that I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING.
Take it easy. It'll be fine. Anyone who feels he can challenge me (and ultimately try to bash the igbos) should go ahead and as usual, end up shying away from the thread like most of my critics do.

For Eg, Lets see if OYB will return boldly to this thread after making it obvious to the whole world on an online forum that he is person who spews words that are blatant falsehoods (referring to his comment ethiopian jews). I don't think i should be scared of "bashing" from people like OYB who are still 17 Years behind the world. Operation Solomon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Solomon the airlift of ethiopian Jews to Israel) took place 17 years ago and someone in this present day and age wants to debate on an online forum with intellectuals and is oblivious of major events that flaw his arguments. Of such I cannot be scared of.

Again, It possibly pays to make people who are committed to holding you back see how futile their effort is and will continue to be. Perhaps some wind of sane thought may make them give up on trying to hold you back.
Thanks for the concern though.
Yours
Ell.
PS: It seems you do not believe the link between Igbos and Jews. Well, thats another thread for another day.

Have you heard that Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin if Isreal sent rabbis to igboland to seek some of the lost tribes?
Its sickening arguing with people who don't read wide. Very sickening!
In this modern day and age, oyb does not know that Beta Yisrael (the jewish tribe in ethiopia) has returned to Israel? He is still in the oblivion of imagining that they are wallowing in poverty in Ethiopia.

Again, what makes you feel jews all over the world are suffering? The jews in S. Africa are wealthy and well to do, likewise the ones in the US.

Of recent, the south-east has reclaimed the lead in education which they had prior to the civil war. The current trend and statistics shows that the south-eastern states have more students enrolling into schools, studying and graduating. A typical reflection of this is the latest PTDF Overseas Scholarship screening list.
Also, for the past ten years or thereabout, the Jamb Statistics has consistently shown that the south-east is gearing up seriously in terms of academics as they have always topped the chart by having the highest enrollments and admissions at state level.

@ All,
We all know that Beckham is very good with free kicks but men . . . . guys you people need to wake up and try to neutralize the English hype. Beckham is VERY VERY good with free kicks but men, JUNINHO is feared!
Before Beckham takes a kick, you can tell which side of the net he will likely put it. Juninho, NO WAY! Juninho scores regulary from distances that Beckham HAS NEVER scored from.
For the Beckam supporters, can we get facts that put Beckham before Juninho?
For the 1998 - 2008 time frame its obvious that the debate is Beckham vs Juninho and Dayokanu has given us facts that put Juninho ahead of Beckham.
Facts Please!
JUNINHO!

I really wonder why everyone (especially the narrrow-minded arabs) are blaming Israel. Gaza has been firing rockets into Israel for about 4 years and Israel did not even give a hoot!
Can you fire one rocket into Iran and Ahmadinejad would not unleash his beloved nuclear weapon on you?
Israel endured Hamas for year until one of the rockets were fired at a Kindergarten! That was when Israel said, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
Donate a bullet to Israel or get one free from Hamas!

PS: Abeg oh! Make Arabs leave my country Israel alone oh! If we charge, we go repeat the 6-day war again oh!

@ Lucabrasi
what were all y'all doing when people who lost all their possessions and money (and were left with 20Naira) came back to dominate your economy?
The biggest electronic market in west africa (and maybe even in Africa) is controlled by Igbos.
The largest market in west africa is controlled by the Igbos.
Remember one thing, you cant Keep a Jew tied down for too long!

PS: For those who say jewish ancestry of the Igbos is vanity, open a thread specially on that and i'll fill it with facts. You guys need to Wake Up! You can't know our history better than we do!

Zimbabwe of Africa?
That obviously is not a statement by a fair-minded person. Biafrans control the economy of Nigeria! and yet you say they would have been Zimbabweans?
A tribe whose entire citizen's were left with N20 per account holder (irrespective of the amount you had in the bank before the war) came back and has built the first indigenous power plant and you say they are not naturally great people?
Men and Brethren, when emotions and hatred beclouds the reasoning of a person he becomes very moronic in his reasoning.
Have you not heard that the UN flagged Nnewi for automobile skills and Aba for leatherwork mastery? I laugh at some people.

A little talk on Biafra (extracted from an earlier post)

When I think of what Biafra would have been if we had seceded, i really feel like weeping but at the same time it makes me see what we could achieve in the midst of war. It also reminds me that Biafra can and will become that great and independent nation. Biafra would have and has the capacity to be an African Technology Superpower and when I say it I mean it with evidence. It takes the natural gift of being technologically gifted to be able to achieve these in the midst of terrible war:-
"In the three years of the war necessity gave birth to invention. During those three years of heroic bound, we leapt across the great chasm that separates knowledge from know-how. We built rockets, and we designed and built our own delivery systems. We guided our rockets. We guided them far; we guided them accurately. For three years, blockaded without hope of import, we maintained all our vehicles. The state extracted and refined petrol, individuals refined petrol in their back gardens. We built and maintained our airports, maintained them under heavy bombardment. Despite the heavy bombardment, we recovered so quickly after each raid that we were able to maintain the record for the busiest airport in the continent of Africa. We spoke to the world through telecommunication system engineered by local ingenuity; the world heard us and spoke back to us! We built armored cars and tanks. We modified aircraft from trainer to fighters, from passenger aircraft to bombers. In the three years of freedom we had broken the technological barrier. . . .

That was the speech delivered towards the end of the war by Ojukwu. It was also on wikipedia.
What the Igbos achieved in the 3 years of turmoil, the failed Nigeria has not been able to achieve even up till her last 48th Anniversary! . . . . at least a functioning refinery!
Why then will the jealous and cunning Yoruba and Unimaginative/backward Hausa people not be afraid of letting Biafra go for fear that Biafra will overtake them in a short while? Do you know that if you speak to any elderly man that was of age during the war, he'll still tell you how the Igbos built bombs locally! My neighbor told me a lot. The locally made bombs were called "ogbunigwe" which means "massive killer" in igbo language. They were made from gunpowder which was in turn made from garri!
I was told the Igbos built a biafra radio station and mounted the antennas on palm trees! The lousy nigerian army must have been busy looking for the MTN-mast-like transmitter from which they were broadcasting to biafrans . . . no knowing we had perfected stealth military techniques. The Uli air strip was simply a road that was converted to an airforce base. . . .not just an ordinary airforce base but a stealth airforce base that was invisible from airspace during the day and used to launch night counter strikes!

Further feelings of injustice were caused by Nigeria, during the war, changing its currency so that Biafran supplies of pre-war Nigerian currency were no longer honoured and then, at the end of the war, offering only N£20 to easterners on exchange of their Biafran currency. This was seen as a deliberate policy to hold back the Igbo middle class, leaving them with little wealth to expand their business interests. - wikipedia
Every Igbo man lost all the money he had in banks and was entitled to 20 naira ONLY!!! Today we virtually control the economy of Nigeria in Business, Importation, Automobiles and even in Economic Administration . . . .the likes of Soludos and the Okonjo-Iwealas. What a fast come-back. Has the hausa man been able to meet up even when they have had power for almost as long as i have been on this earth as a child and a youth.

Igbos are destined to be great. The hausa man and the yoruba man are afraid of where they see us going and they are determined that since they may not have the natural inborn gifts that are required to reach there, they must hold us down with them. The God of the Jews is still the God of the Igbos! Like the Jews (of whom we descended) we will get to the promised land of Biafra.
Its simple logic!
When a man is sinking, he tries to hold on to any thing he sees to stay help him stay afloat or to drag it down with himself. Whereas a man who knows that he can stay afloat will always try to let go of any unnecessary weight that will drag him down.
The Igbos know they can stay afloat and are ready to let go of any unnecessary burden. The Yorubas and the Hausas are by their actions telling us that they are sinking! Holding on to the Igbos to stay afloat!

. . .leer y reflexionar . . .read and reflect on these . . .
Politics › Re: Mallam Ribadu Dismissed From The Police! by Ellyptical: 9:32am On Dec 24, 2008
L+G,
When I see people defend Nuhu Ribadu and cry that he was a martyr, I wonder is people actually understand that fighting corruption partially is worse than fighting corruption at all. We all know that NOT A SINGLE corrupt politician who was in OBJ's coven was touched my the cowardly EFCC boss. He helped a corrupt president to wield dictatorial power by acting as a bull dog that attacks any opposition to the president.
While I strongly support the activities of the EFCC in fighting corruption in general, i refuse to be a part of a move where a body is set up to fight the corruption of only those who are enemies of the corrupt president.
Why did Ribadu not prosecute Odili with all the allegations leveled against him even after his tenure was over?
Why did Ribadu not prosecute OBJ the moment he stepped down?
I put it to you, If Ribadu had kept security officials who hand-cuffed OBJ immediately he handed over to Yar-Adua, he would have not only won the SilverBird man of the year, but he would have been a Legend. He would have with that, that he actually meant to fight corruption in all dimensions but OBJs immunity did not allow him while OBJ was on seat. Instead, he went after only the governors who were against 3rd term or had problems with OBJ.

What Ribadu is passing through is what you get for using an office meant to fight corruption, to fight political opponents.
